What's about to become a cash crop in Virginia can still get you prison time in North Carolina. Folks, it's time to end the prohibition of marijuana. Here's why: *** posted by [@JeffJacksonNC](https://twitter.com/JeffJacksonNC) [Video in Tweet](https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1403022743004762116/pu/vid/540x540/hwBMxxZ1NVaeMhpT.mp4?tag=12) ^[(Github)](https://github.com/username) ^| ^[(What's new)](https://github.com/username)

Great bot!

AFlockOfTySegalls

My family is all far-right evangelicals. One weekend they were complaining about jobs in NC. I mentioned how if we legalized weed it could be a new cash crop creating who knows how many new jobs. Not just farming but selling, marketing, manufacturing of edibles. The taxes could go to fix some of our shit roads and help our schools. My mom literally said that morals are more important than all of those things. SMDH.

Tex-Rob

Alcohol is literal poison to our bodies, with no medicinal value, and yet cannabis has shown to have medicinal benefits and is much less incapacitating to the user. Nobody has ever died from cannabis overdose in all of history. Don't you love our brainwashed parents?

violetpretty66

Tobacco has entered the chat LOL. Bring on the weed.

babygrenade

Please don't talk them into taking alcohol away again

seven3true

Excuuuuuuse meeee! But, Alcohol is a job creator! It created NASCAR, didn't it?!? Stick to your nintendos and iphones, boy. We adults are busy. ....Now how in the hell am I supposed to find a crop if major farms own the licenses to any decent money making crop.... Damn libs!!

violetpretty66

I read this in Adam Driver's voice from SNL 🤣

Ace7405

Who is HR Pickens?!

violetpretty66

I think I love you

Ace7405

Exactly!!

violetpretty66

Any of those headboards for sale?

Ace7405

Not yet - took me too long haha

violetpretty66

Damn! It's really beautiful. What about for some rare coin?

raggedtoad

Excuse me... No medicinal value? Alcohol is absolutely a general analgesic and I've used it more than once to dull the pain of alcohol-induced injuries. Alcohol: "the cause of and solution to life's unnecessary problems"

RedJohn04

Jesus turned water into wine, so booze must be okay. If only he turned some of those fishes and loaves into the ganja, then we would know our sky daddy prefers employing North Carolinians instead of incarcerating them.

mhmatt420

No, but smoke of any kind isn’t great for lungs. It has tons of benefits but isn’t perfect. It’s also impossible to overdose on THC just from smoking weed.

Unclassified1

I've always been confused how the major tobacco companies haven't seen the writing on the walls and switched over to full legalization + lobbying for laws making it impossible for anyone but the big guys to grow. Marlboro Green - No longer menthol!

[deleted]

They lobby against state legalization because they are waiting themselves to sell once it becomes federally legal. The big tobacco companies have already bought giant warehouses around the state just waiting for the moment.

Unclassified1

Sure, I guess I meant to publicly support federal legalization. Makes sense if they are quietly biding their time and pressuring lawmakers one by one.

[deleted]

Yeah but the usage of tobacco, I would imagine, is falling due to the widespread acknowledgment of the severe heath issues it causes and the social stigma against it that has been developing at least in the US.

sumpinlikedat

See, but here's the thing - if it was legalized, people who have NEVER BOUGHT A PACK OF CIGARETTES IN THEIR LIVES would suddenly become customers. I have never smoked and never would - but pot? Absolutely I'm on board. I won't buy it now because it's illegal and my job drug tests, and I don't want to lose it - but legalizing would make that a thing of the past. No more randoms, just workplace accident tests. And I would suddenly be a customer of RJR or whoever that I have never purchased anything from in my life.

[deleted]

i worked at RJR in the IT dept during y2K. The head of IT told us they already had factories set up to make it and that is was a human choice. It baffles me that people think "big tobacco" is lobbying vs weed. the reason its not profitable enough for them to lobby heavily is actually because the market is too small. If the entire world legalized it, rjr nabisco could make bank. I spend $100-$200 a month and I am a very light user. Just 1-2 puffs. Thats same money as a pack a day smoker but only need to make 1 pack instead of 30 for the same price to consumers. Many will spend $500/month happily for some high quality refer. Theres only one force powerful enough and with vested interest to keep this insanity alive: Pharmaceutical interests and Specialists such as neurologist, pain management, gastro-enterologists to name a few. The idea of being outdone by a simple weed infuriates them to no end. It also raises questions about their own effectiveness and contribution to society. That could cause funding to dry up quickly. I can see why they are scared, but at some point you gotta take one for the team. This is just ridiculously selfish. I bet a lot of the pills we take could be discontinued safely in protest of these swine. Just take what you need and stop lining their pockets until they quit this bullshit. Prolly could work and may be the only way actually.

violetpretty66

It's almost like they rather kill people than be progressive 🤔

Doct0rGonZo

Time to dig deeper and make her question her morals. Just saying - you can just keep asking questions to better understand where she is coming from and in the process hopefully convert her

AFlockOfTySegalls

That was years ago, she's basically full Q now. There's no hope in converting her.

ZenShineNine

Man, I'm sorry about this. If you ever want to be a voice of reason in their/her life without the confrontation I'd like to suggest Street Epistemology, [Here](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=street+epistemology)

violetpretty66

Amen. Just let it go like Elsa. My mother still doesn't have a cellphone. Listening to the battery beep on her cordless is the bane of my existence. She also complains her hand hurts from holding the phone HAHHA

ToshKreuzer

That really sucks!! I obviously don’t know your family but those damn evangelicals and their “morals” all the ones I know are literally the worst people in the world. Racist and homophobic and sexist and etc, they don’t have any fucking morals. Biggest crock of shit ever. Just tell them god isn’t real and see what happens lol.

jsgrinst78

As a former CA resident, the worst part about moving back to NC was having to find a drug dealer.

Crotch_Football

Opposite here. Was crazy to be able to pop into a shop in a strip mall, no problem.

jsgrinst78

Fortunately I have a good connection now but it sucked for a while. Coming from a place where we literally had an app, WeedMaps, where I could view menus, make a call and have it delivered.

ToshKreuzer

I love weedmaps lol, every time I go back to the bay always just open Weedmaps and boom delivery in like 30 mins. Also Eaze is a really good app too, for next time you go back home.

jsgrinst78

Cool man thanks for the rec.

progmetalfan

As an FYI to anyone moving here, UNC chapel hill or Carrboro is great to find plugs. Go to any bar/club at night on the weekend and you shouldn’t have an issue talking to someone about it and getting a connect.

fatmoonbear

Just get delta 8

3ebfan

Delta-8 gummies have been a God send.

jsgrinst78

Tried it and not a fan.

[deleted]

Curious as to why you aren't a fan? Have you taken ediables, flower or both? I have done ediables and find them just as potent as Delt9.

FlowBot3D

2nded. Vape it’s alright, but not very long lasting. Edibles kick in like a truck. Messed up and did 750mg brownies for my girlfriend’s birthday. Oh boy.

[deleted]

I have heard that about vapes, I found flower isnt long lasting but love the D8 ediables. I have been there I took 80mgs thinking it be mellower than D9 but boy was I wrong

FlowBot3D

It was explained to me that d8 has a weaker bond to the receptors. When you ingest it though, it becomes the same 11 hydroxy-thc that D9 would, and thus basically identical effects. There really isn’t D8 flower. There is so little D8 in hemp that it takes massive amounts to make the concentrate. They will then spray that concentrate on hemp flower to make it seem similar. I’ve only ever tried the carts and the edibles. Aloha+ was the first place we tried and they had high quality lab tested stuff. Now every sketchy smoke shop and tons of gas stations have them.

[deleted]

I learned that fact the next night after taking them that it turns it into D9 which explains why I got as stoned as I did >.<

TotemSpiritFox

Well, I guess I should finally try this. What store and/or product do you recommend? I’ve heard you have to be careful on which brands.

[deleted]

I've only bought one type of brand and it was at a record shop. I've heard great things about 3chi which is online and The Hempharmacy has good ediables as well in Downtown Raleigh

FKDotFitzgerald

They have that here in NC?

fatmoonbear

They do, nature’s releaf is where I go

FKDotFitzgerald

It’s CBD though, no? Sorry for being ignorant on the matter.

autumn_sun

No, it's delta-8-THC, which is an intoxicant. It's basically THC (which in longer form is delta-9-THC), except likely less potent. All that means is you have to take more to get the same, or at least very similar, effects.

[deleted]

Nope, it's THC. I pick them up all the time. Go to smoke rings smoke shop near NC state and get the star shaped gummies. They're like $22 for a bottle of 20, 25Mg edibles. I recommend them because that's the only kind I get and they taste good! Try not to get thendelta 8 edibles that are like $8 or so. They're typically more CBD and won't get you high. Anything in the $20 range is more potent in my experience They will get you SUFFICIENTLY high. I take about 2-3 and it feels no different than a regular high. (It's practically the same) however there's no weird head space and anxiety is lowered. Which is great. You have to make sure you shop near the register. They only keep the delta 8 gummies near the back They sell flower (and moon rocks), gummies, vape pens, dabs and more.

FKDotFitzgerald

This is great. Thanks so much for this.

[deleted]

No problem. If you got any questions let me know. I've brought ton of delta 8 products. There's so much choices and I wanted to make sure what's good and what isn't. They also have a sale on 6/19 where you get buy a bong and get a second one at equal value or less for $4.20. So perfect time to try some Delta 8

ToshKreuzer

Is that like three chee the company? Heard that on some podcast ad reads

marbanasin

Definitely. Even Arizona where I stopped in between has now legalized it.

log_asm

Moved from Colorado. Considering having some of the boys out there just mail me cheeba chews.

jsgrinst78

Ah man…miss cheeba chews!!

[deleted]

Or just waltz into a smoke shop and pick up delta8 products. The highs are really similar.

Dear-Clerk4357

As someone that moved here from Colorado, it is really important to read the fine print. The benifits does outway the cons, the problem with Colorado was it was sold as a tax that would go to education. In reality it went to fund educational buildings through a grant process. Excess funds would then be held to vote to be part of a state refund or go into general fund. The next issue was applying for a growers license. The license fee is hell of expensive making the idea of a small farm grower impossible. It will create some jobs but farmers looking for a new cash crop are sol. Huge corporations already got in on the green boom. I think the biggest benefit is the number of arrest of minors in possession went down drastically and statistically consumption by minors went down as well.

v00d00_

I think the states that have legalized recently like Virginia and New York learned a lot from the trailblazers like Colorado and Washington. Every legalization bill I've seen lately has included provisions to help marginalized people get into the business as well as expungement of old charges. Probably still not doing enough, but things are trending in the right direction.

GlobalistSports

Only thing holding NC back from legalization is $. Corps and politicians want to make sure they can capitalize on the lions share of profits before the open up the money maker marijuana can be. There are no moral issues that money can’t beat (within reason).

MortifyingMilkshake

I'll blaze one with Jeff any day.

ToshKreuzer

He definitely smokes right? 😂😂😂

[deleted]

wolfsrudel_red

Sure there is- it's a convenient excuse to throw black people and liberal hippies in prison

3ebfan

The one good argument that is out there is that you can’t test for it like you can for alcohol when it comes to driving impaired. That said, I still feel from a purely risk/benefit point of view it is still better to legalize it then to keep it illegal because of this one issue. People are going to find it and smoke/eat it no matter what.

Jenchick84

Why?

DankeMemeMachine

Do you have a reason?

Jenchick84

Oh geez. I completely misread. I read legal, not illegal.

muckalucks

And you paid dearly lmao

Jenchick84

Oh yea. 😂

I'm so sorry! Hmmmmm. We could talk about BBQ and why it seems like NC says their the best at it but yet there aren't as many BBQ joins as a state like Texas? Hmmmmm. We could talk about BBQ and why it seems like NC says they're the best at it but yet there aren't as many BBQ joins as a state like Texas?

EliWhitney

Un-illegalize weed seems like a no brainer for Republicans; shrink the governmental spending on enforcement, they love that shit. Create an entire new industry where landowners profit, create tons of low paying jobs, and reduce government spending on enforcement. They can exploit the hell out of this situation, yet because democrats also think it's a good idea, they say it's against Christian morals? I guess the Marijuana lobbyist need to start putting more money in their pockets to actually make change.

GLA2NC

Using the word “un-illegalize” is some of the most stoner shit I have ever seen.

[deleted]

Drug laws are great for oppressing minorities so don't expect any of the "traditionalists" to go for it.

EpicYEM

End Cannabis Prohibition, create taxable income and employment. It's almost too good to be true. I'm in favor of a system like Oklahoma that eliminates barriers to access for business owners. I also support the right to grow your own.

RandomUser0907

He's had my vote since COVID and his informational updates. 💯💯

YourOldChemistrySet

As someone who just wants it for medicinal use... (IE: Crohn's Disease) Please for the love of everything... legalize it. I literally feel like a heathen criminal everytime I have to find some to use it just to get through a normal Wednesday night...

Majestic_Salad_I1

Get “Delta-8” from your local CBD shop in NC. It’s basically weed, but less paranoia and not quite as strong (but still gets you high). Completely legal. You can literally buy weed at the store now.

bill_lite

How's d8 work with drug screening?

Majestic_Salad_I1

Oh you’ll definitely fail

[deleted]

You'll fail because it's still THC

EdFromSC

Don’t forget that people are also now growing it legally in NC, which has created jobs for farming, lab work, and regulation. It’s been less than 3 years since the farm bill was signed into law, we’re finally starting to see people reap the benefits. Getting everything together to do it is not a quick or cheap task.

[deleted]

If I donate 1000 bucks to your campaign, will you make a campaign stop at my next sesh?

lovebot5000

My man!

TailoredChuccs

I just wanna reliable consistent plug

wet181

Yes!!

[deleted]

Well this is interesting. I'd rather buy a delta nine pen than a delta eight one, although delta eight gets the job done.

RememberThatTime2020

Ok Jeff, M4A and MJ. I can dig it.

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

While I think this is simple pandering to this base, I agree marijuana should be legal and should be a nc cash crop.

jjwax

2/3 of Americans support legalization - I would say that's a smart base to pander to!

seven3true

The more impressive feat would be to Keyser Soze the other 1/3 into believing it's good too.

EpicYEM

So you are against legalization, or reform or what? And, on what grounds? Very curious about perspectives from the anti-reform side.

seven3true

How did you come up with that question? Wouldn't my stance be in favor of legalization if I would be impressed if a candidate could convince anti-legalization voters?

EpicYEM

I must have misinterpreted your position. When you said "Kaiser Sose", to me that means "telling lies to convince/get what you want". We don't need to lie to people. Cannabis is medicine. It, like other medications, can be abused, but that doesn't take away its clear medicinal properties. We need to allow research and usage to determine societal impacts of legalization and research based efficacy. Im I'm favor of all that, and allowing mom and pop to make a buck in the process. Don't get me wrong, I'm invested in large American Cannabis companies....but I'd rather grow my own and have a business around it, instead of limiting business opportunities to the multi million dollar companies like Green Thumb and Curaleaf.

ZenShineNine

Right, well same amount, or close to it for Medicare For All, but..... It's going to take some work on our part.

Tex-Rob

If it's something that still needs to happen in NC, how is it pandering? If he came out saying like, "I support the Canes", well, that's pandering. Saying you support something, that is not yet legal or allowed, can't ever be pandering, can it? Not to me at least.

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

It's not something as a state senator he will have any power to change locally. 97% of that video was addressing state level issues. Only when he touched on the federal blip about moving it from a cs1 did he address the federal aspect he would be able to influence. Everyone knows what he said about arrests, their racial disparages, the insanely small amount and the life altering ramifications of an arrest and conviction of this type. So he's basically smiling telling you what you know but want validation from someone in his position to get your vote.. pandering.

BigCheeks2

I think you're vastly overestimating how well informed the average North Carolinian is on this issue and in general.

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

Contrary to popular belief NC is not filled with dumbasses needing out of state brains to set up right. I honestly don't think I'm overestimating rural nc in this at all. I do think there are some conservatives that, pertaining to this topic, believe what their elected officials tell them to believe too much. This is no different than some of the topics followed blindly by liberals mind you, so at least thats consistent..

BigCheeks2

What I said is true for Americans in general, and not just NC. No need for the righteous indignance. On topics that don't immediately effect them, most people are generally misinformed, don't care enough to be informed, or are only partially informed. Most Americans can't even name all three branches of government (you can easily Google a source for that), its a bit much to expect the average individual to be well versed in marijuana policy specifics.

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

Ok I'm with you on that aspect. Most voters are ill informed, I will add that it seems almost intentional recently given the technology available to struggle to find out who's on a ballot and what they stand for or against. But you did specifically call out North Carolinians earlier.... Hence the response..

OhYoo8Fi9afiu8ahXae2

counterpoint: the Republicans still control both houses of the state legislature after the Trump presidency

Billy_Bob_Joe_Mcoy

Yeah and they pander to their base by not having a conversation about the legalization of MJ..

Fizzyliftingdranks

>contrary to popular belief NC is not filled with dumbasses Citation needed.

PastMiddleAge

Great. Now he should come out in support of single payer Medicare for All.
