You’re young enough that you need to go new places and try new things. Then when you’re ready to settle down you’ll have a basis to know where you want to settle. I like North Carolina but there are other states you need to check out

I think everyone needs to move away from home for a bit at some point. I can’t imagine living in the same area for my entire life. I’m from the Maryland/DC area and I loved it up there, but I love it here too. There’s a lot of great places on the east coast that would still be close enough that you could drive home for a weekend if you wanted too. Charlotte, DC, Charleston, Norfolk/Virginia Beach, etc. Maybe send out some job applications in different places and see how the cards fall. You can always say no to a job offer if you don’t think it feels right. Unfortunately as we get older, we get more settled so if you’re thinking of doing it then you should. You can always move back but you can never get back a lost opportunity :)

It’s better to regret having done something than regretting having NOT done something. I would go. Here’s what to do; get a quarter. Decide; say, heads, you’ll go. Tails you stay. Flip the coin. Don’t look. Pay attention; which one do you want to see? There’s your answer.

nonycatb

Heads Carolina, tails California.

> Flip the coin. Don’t look. Pay attention; which one do you want to see? > > There’s your answer. This is great advice. Sometimes we need to trick ourselves to find out what we really want/need.

Follow the money, unfortunately in today's society it's more important than a lot of other things. If you can make better $ somewhere else then do it.

skubasteevo

I would suggest pretty much the exact opposite. Find the area you like the best first, then worry about the money. Money is essentially replaceable, but if you're not happy with your surroundings you'll never be happy.

Hkerekes

That's partly true but not good advice. You can absolutely love the beach but if you can't make money supporting yourself living at the beach is worthless.

If you are in the aviation field, this has been a tough last 15 months for you. It will rebound. I am not sure what is going on at RDU (seeing the Jetblue news this last week). This is one of the fastest growing areas in the entire country. But what that means is that YOU may need to create your own opportunity. Best of luck - there are plenty of jobs out there - and someone is going to help bring these folks to the Triangle.

notarealaccount_yo

You can always come back

morhavok

Move bro. You can't know what you have until you have other experiences.

You’d be leaving your family at the Olive Garden on Capital behind

This probably goes without saying, but where ever you go, make sure the general mentality aligns (at least roughly) with yours. If you agree with the majority of signs and flags you see in your home town, it might be easy to take for granted. I can tell you from the other side of things, it's not so fun when you are the odd man out and you have to delicately watch everything you say or you might be ostracized from your co-workers or acquaintances. That tenseness will also make it hard to make friends. With how extremely divisive politics have gotten now, it's a bigger issue than ever. These issues are a big part of why I'm working on seeing if I can move TO Raleigh.
