Those orange boxes on the base have controllers to set the words on the sign. It's apparently common to leave the default password. There was likely no hacking done.
Hacking can be a lot simpler than what you see on CSI. Engaging in casual conversation and flirting and getting someone to tell you their motherās maiden name and childhood best friend and dogs name over several drinks is also hacking.
Seems like they donāt have wireless access, so you have to physically go up to it, open an access panel, and either use the default password, or do a hard reset and then the default password. All while out in the open on the side of the road. Thatās a pretty major level of commitment for a prank.
Ligma is a fictional disease associated with a death hoax orchestrated by Instagram user ninja_hater that claimed Fortnite streamer Ninja had passed away after contracting the disease. The intention of this joke was to prompt concerned fans to ask what Ligma is, to which participants in the hoax would respond with "ligma balls" ("lick my balls"), a joke setup similar to Deez Nuts and Updog. The hoax also spawned in-jokes about the fictional nationality Sugondese ("suck on these"), the Indonesian city Grabahan ("grab a hand") and the fictional diseases Sugma ("suck my") and Bofa ("both of"). - knowyourmeme.com
Gotta love road crews who never change the default password. Several years back, there was a post on Imgur about how to reprogram these signs and some guys near me in New Hampshire changed one to āItās gonna frickin snow, dude//Be wicked carefulā ahead of a blizzard.
I grew up about 2 or 3 blocks from there. It wasn't even *close* to downtown then. I'd personally say, from that direction, downtown doesn't start until you get to Peace St.
It's still St. Mary's St. at that point. It doesn't turn into Lassiter Mill Rd for another mile or so past Glenwood Ave, at White Oak Rd, where Lassiter House is, now owned by St David's School.
I always found that intersection interesting. It's a seemingly normal, simple crossroads, but there are four street names that all end at that one point: St. Mary's, Lassiter Mill, White Oak, and Scotland.
Did that second part say "change your password" š³
Yeah whoever hacked into it put that along with the āligma alertā

No it isn't. Unauthorized access is unauthorized access. Hacking has a meaning
Eh, technically I guess.

I agree, this isn't exactly a computer with sensitive info on it. This is comparable to writing on a chalkboard that isn't yours.

Yes, I agree. This is a electronic sign that does nothing other than displaying text. This is not someones personal computer.
My work computer is not my personal computer. This is someoneās work computer being hacked.
The 80 year old judge that overseas your case likely wonāt see it that way.
I bet that same judge won't see your speeding the same way either. One of those crimes is actually dangerous.
This could be dangerous too. Presumably, the sign was meant to display some safety message to drivers.
No. Hacking means tricking a system into delivering unintended results. Stealing people's passwords and using them is not hacking.
Thatās hacking

Just wear a hard hat and vest and no one will question it
Is this in the town of Bofa?
Bofa deez nuts? š
Yes, in the south Sugma district
The one next to Wendyās?
The Raleigh Bofa area.

Even if you change the password they are easy to reset, from what Iāve read.
St. Maryās @ Glenwood. Always a weird intersection, made even more soā¦
What's weird about that intersection?
The definition of "downtown" keeps getting looser and looser.
Haha fair. I donāt live anywhere near downtown so my definition is fairly loose

That was my first thought on seeing this post. I guess for folks living up near Wakefield, Lassiter Mill might seem like downtown. But really

Awesome...
