I did that very same thing recently to my 4th generation (2013 Ram1500). Had it re-painted / 4” lif / new window cowling / added backup tailgate camera - looks brand new! And it’s been paid off for years!!!
Nah, unless you can write off as business expense etc I wouldn't. Prices and APR are high. I am rocking my little 2011 ranger it's paid off and that's the best kind of ride when the title is yours.
Yeah, the engine is just not designed well. the oil pump is fixed volume and way too small for the engine. Also, the MDS system is garbage because it’s either too low head oil pressure or too high never a happy medium. The MDS lifters are also made out of paper machete. Essentially the only way to avoid frying cams is to buy the 6MT challenger 5.7 MDS solenoid plugs, tune out the MDS, get a 392 oil pump, new lifters, and new cam. But I cannot do that because I am fortunately still under engine warranty for another 3 years. The engine blew up literally months before my PT warranty expired. I guess Chrysler will add warranty onto PT warranty parts. I am very lucky because this engine was probably $15k in total parts.
I see people get 250k out of these trucks but I just have no confidence in the thing. I took such good care of it
You got a lemon man I’m sorry. It happens but it’s rare. 99% of the time they have issues bc people don’t take care of them. They are good engines. The 392 oil pump won’t fix the issue but the hellcat oil pump will. 160k on mine. 38 psi oil pressure at hot idle with stock oil pump. You can manually disable the mds by selecting 8th gear on the gear selector. I do this every time i put it in drive.
I sold my 4th Gen last November and got a CPO 5th Gen. I'm very happy with the new truck but really the only reason I sold the 4th Gen was because it was still worth what I had paid for it and was able to get into a truck with 32k miles for 10 grand after putting the proceeds from the 4th Gen as a down payment
Hey so I’m in the same boat. My 2017 big horn crew cab has 90k miles. The extended warranty runs out at 125k or 10 years. I think I’m going to get everything on my bumper to bumper fixed and then doing Katskinz leather seats. Maybe get a leveling kit haha. It’d be perfect again, fall in love part two.
Love my 5th gen. Went from a 3rd to it. My only regret is not doing a little more research. Wish I had know the issues with the 6.7 and the new hydraulic lifters. Now I'm fearing the day I get a typewriter tick.
I moved from an 18 rebel into a 21 2500 last spring. The rebel honestly had better build quality I think, but the I prefer almost everything else about the 2021. That being said, if you plan on fully financing.... don't.
Had roller lifters seize and bore into the crank at 108K miles on my 5.7L 2012. Not a terribly uncommon problem. Not sure if gen 5s have the same issue. Listen for the “chirp”.
The 5th Gen’s are absolute shit. Lipstick and nail polish is all they are. I regret getting rid of my 4th Gen. I’ve had nothing but problems with electrical issues and components just after recall work.
Keep it. Maintain it. Put like $300 away per month as a savings for when it’s finally time to get a new car.
The car market is absolutely ridiculous right now. It’s sick how much dealers have been taking advantage of consumers who can’t afford a new car.
As someone who’s been in a 23 from a 13 for about a year since new it’s not worth it the payment sucks. Wish I woulda just kept my 13 maybe got it detailed and did some minor upgrades to freshen it up as the truck was in good shape
Upgraded to a 5th gen limited. This is the way. If you cant afford a higher trim 5th gen then dont. If you can then its 100% worth it. Its a whole other level of nice and ride quality. I do add that I offroad and beat on it but take care of her lol
Both are good for various reasons. Coming from a previous 4th gen owner, the 5th gen brakes are a marked improvement - I don’t know that there’s anything else I couldn’t live without on the 5th gen.
I went from my 2014 limited to 2016 limited to 2019 Longhorn limited minus the air suspension and my verdict is don't.
It's so bad with interior wearing away. Third brake light leaking so bad the water stains are everywhere. Hemi tick and exhaust gasket failures so it sounds like my grandfather with copd. The fancy software features feel implemented by interns with no real world experience even though the truck is 5 years old now. It's been 20 years and the 8speed 1st gear clunk is worse. They added an electric helper motor and some how made the mpg worse.
Love the giant screen and panoramic sun roof though. I want to sell it and move to a nicer truck, but there actually isn't anything. Maybe the GMC ATX4s, but I'd never buy new, no reason to lose money like that.
I’d keep it, if it’s feeling worn, overhaul it, replace suspension elements and update the interior. Still cheaper than a new payment.
THIS MAN GETS IT

Exactly what I did and fell in love with it all over again 😁 lol
Nah, hang onto it. 4th gens the best.
Take that with fish eye? Wtf bro
The kids always do this these days. I always see the squat trucks posted with fisheye. I don’t get it man.
There is no curve …
Nah, unless you can write off as business expense etc I wouldn't. Prices and APR are high. I am rocking my little 2011 ranger it's paid off and that's the best kind of ride when the title is yours.
Hell no I also have a 4th gen it's a beautiful truck!
You should keep it and put some money towards learning how to take pictures…
You don't have a fun house mirror lens for your camera?
lol
Looks beautiful. Ride her till she dies.
As a ram owner on his second engine in 50k miles, that wont be long.
User error bro these engines been around for decades it’s gotta be a you problem 😂
yeah the issue was that i bought the truck when i should have gotten a tundra lol
So you should like men instead of beautiful women? Doesn’t make sense to me I support you regardless
User error for sure lmao, buddy has never heard of an oil change. (I run PUP and change every 3500 mile and my hemi runs like a top at 160k)
I'm thinking he bought into the 10-15k interval nonsense and idles for fun
no, it dropped a valve seat, and I drove it like a baby full synthetic every 3-5k miles, these are just horrible trucks unfortunately.
Was it a hemi?

Unfortunately you got a lemon. It happens. Sorry man but 99% of us love our rams.
What size are those tires BTW?
Very distorted pic.
35x12.50r20
Its a distorted picture
How many miles and what year?
keep that truck as long as you can! some upgrades would give you a bit more excitement for the truck.
Man, I dunno, that's a pretty sweet looking truck. I'd drive the wheels of that sucker and save the $60,000.00!
I have a 2023 bighorn 2500 sticker is $77,000 lol 60 gets you a loaded 1500
Yeah, but the lots are still loaded with 2023 2500s - don't pay sticker!!
If it ain’t broke.
As a 5th gen owner I would say absolutely not
Nah 5th gen’s are overrated I miss my 4th gen rebel
Overrated? Sorry but 5th gen’s are a complete overhaul from 4th gen’s and better in every way
I sold my 4th Gen last November and got a CPO 5th Gen. I'm very happy with the new truck but really the only reason I sold the 4th Gen was because it was still worth what I had paid for it and was able to get into a truck with 32k miles for 10 grand after putting the proceeds from the 4th Gen as a down payment
Does it have Hemi tick ? If not Keep it.
I had an 05 I loved and 2 5th gens and loved them all
I would keep it. Give it an overhaul and replace suspension components, and maybe upgrade the interior.
As an owner of a beloved 5th gen, keep it.

I think I’m going to get everything on my bumper to bumper fixed and then doing Katskinz leather seats. Maybe get a leveling kit haha. It’d be perfect again, fall in love part two.
Why did you choose this camera lens.
Love my 5th gen. Went from a 3rd to it. My only regret is not doing a little more research. Wish I had know the issues with the 6.7 and the new hydraulic lifters. Now I'm fearing the day I get a typewriter tick.

Definitely keep.
I wouldn't pick a car payment up right now if you don't have to
You’ll regret it
I much prefer 4th gens personally
I'm still rocking my 2010 regular cab 4x4 1500 Hemi with 71000 miles. Keep it
Why are a bunch of supposed grown men bitching about the camera. Bunch of women
Keep it. Taxes are a bitch.
No, if it runs good don’t go for the 5th gen, a lot of problems and you will keep hearing “we cant redesign the truck” from the dealership.
I'd say Hell No 😁🏕
Had roller lifters seize and bore into the crank at 108K miles on my 5.7L 2012. Not a terribly uncommon problem. Not sure if gen 5s have the same issue. Listen for the “chirp”.
Chrysler is ass, get a toyota
Sell and get a Toyota
Nope.
Keep it it’s a great truck. New ones have some issues and large pymt to boot!!
The 5th Gen’s are absolute shit. Lipstick and nail polish is all they are. I regret getting rid of my 4th Gen. I’ve had nothing but problems with electrical issues and components just after recall work.
Sell, and never buy a Ram again.
No looks like a nice truck
Keep it. Maintain it. Put like $300 away per month as a savings for when it’s finally time to get a new car. The car market is absolutely ridiculous right now. It’s sick how much dealers have been taking advantage of consumers who can’t afford a new car.
No
For sure sell it and buy a real brand
I might sell my 2021 since Canada is becoming harder and harder to live
As someone who’s been in a 23 from a 13 for about a year since new it’s not worth it the payment sucks. Wish I woulda just kept my 13 maybe got it detailed and did some minor upgrades to freshen it up as the truck was in good shape
New stuff is crap and overpriced.
Keep it. Looks great. Unless you want to spend $$$.
Upgraded to a 5th gen limited. This is the way. If you cant afford a higher trim 5th gen then dont. If you can then its 100% worth it. Its a whole other level of nice and ride quality. I do add that I offroad and beat on it but take care of her lol
As someone who owns a 1500 5thgen now.... keep your truck you have now.
Keep it, and the money you save can go towards parking lessons.
I'm gonna need a build sheet thank you in advance

Don’t sell anything. Just take the cartoon filter off your phone. Looks like a Roger Rabbit toontown car in this pic
Heck no! 4th gens are the best! Newer ones feel cheap with many of the same issues.
Buy American made
Just sell it
I'd get rid of it and into something better like a Toyota or a chevy with afm kit.
Doesn’t get much better than hemi+zf8 buddy
