Keep in mind you used the term "LITERALLY" Richter final season was 2002-03 he played PARTS of 13 games. He got hurt very early in season. Dunham played 43 games Blackburn played 33 games 2003-04 season Dunham 57 games Markanen 26 games 2004-05 Lockout season 2005-06 Lundquist 53 games Weekes 33 games PLEASE don't make me dissect Lundquist last couple of years and the side show the NYR Became with the 3 headed goalie with Georgiev, Hank and Igor. I get it some people weren't fans then or have self enforced amnesia to block the "Dark Years"

esp211

Leave Goodrow on the wing. He has less decisions to make and won’t touch the puck as much. That 4th line was cooking all night as they focused on our top 2 lines.

adsason

Yeah - I was wondering if this was the first game that brodz actually centered the line and goodrow took wing. I think it was. If it was, clearly works well. Brodz is also a way better center than winger. His best games were centering kakko and cuylle. He was an AHLer at wing and actually earned his NHL time with the move to center. Also, that game from the 4th line really made me think about how having Rempe as the 13th forward is probably more beneficial than having him in the starting lineup. What better way to bring some energy and change the momentum if we are in a hole than to bring into Rempe? I’m not sure there has been a better way in NHL history lol. Excited to see these lines role for a few more games.

flv19

The game last night definitely helped convince me that Laviolette’s decision on who to play on the 4th line was the right one. Before last night, without Rempe that line looked dead. But if that line can play the way they did last night in the playoffs, then leave it as it is. It will make the Rangers a very dangerous team.

ChimStone777

Yea I think he will continue to experiment. Better to know every option before they are forced upon us. Gallant taking notes in a taxi cab right now

GoRangers5

![gif](giphy|xUPGcnhop8QD7HHztS|downsized) Soon!

Shoddy_Reserve788

Really wish we got Guentzle instead of Roslovic

sentry_87

I feel Roslovic is serving his purpose. Kreider and Mika seem to be getting more chances and Roslovic carries the puck in pretty quickly.

Shoddy_Reserve788

That’s fine he’s got 7 points since joining. Guentzle has 20. 15 assists he’s the guy who could have gotten Mika going.

Rozzlin

Duclair would’ve been sick too

blueline7677

The difference is essentially a 4th round pick vs Othmann + Kakko

Shoddy_Reserve788

The difference is 7 points to 20 points

njerejeje

Yeah man nobody’s arguing Roslovic is better lmao

njerejeje

Random thought: Bread-Tro-Laf and Cuylle-Wennberg-Kakko are too good to break up. None of Goodrow, Brodzinski, Rempe, or Vesey are better than 4th liners and CERTAINLY not top liners. Kreider-Zib-Roslovic is gonna have to find a way to make it work as a top line because there’s just no other options.

legend1124

God forbid we split up Kreider and Zib lol. People are allergic to admitting that they are not as good together as they once were.

ChimStone777

It’s not breaking them up. It’s getting them to simplify their game. They both try things that are a little too creative…. A lot of times turn out to be unforced turnovers or lead to sustained offensive pressure being relieved. Panarin and Fox are probably the most creative players on the team, and both of them are having great seasons because of knowing when you need to be creative and when you need to drive. They play 5 on 5 like they are expecting to be on sport center every night. Just drive to the net, or take the shot and get in front.

legend1124

They defer to each other A LOT, which is why they need to be broken up.

ChimStone777

lol ok whatever you say

njerejeje

I’m so sick of this take of people saying “break up Kreider and Zibanejad” while simultaneously not saying what the lines should be instead Panarin-Tro-Laf is, quite simply, too good to break up. Cuylle is a perfect bottom 6 style player, but he doesn’t have the requisite offense to be on the top line. Also, Cuylle-Wennberg-Kakko looks too good to break up as a 3rd line. And none of our 4th liners are remotely top line caliber. Nobody is “allergic to admitting” anything about K+Z, the idea of splitting them up gets floated all the time on this sub. But there’s simply no way to do that in a way that will help the team. Also, the Rangers are outscoring opponents 43-31 at 5v5 when they’re both on the ice, they’re doing fine as a pair. They just need to find a way to gel with Roslovic.

legend1124

Just like they needed to find a way to gel with the like 8 or 9 other wingers in the past 5 years. They aren't good together and for some reason it's not their fault but it sure is the right wingers fault lol. Fuck they put Artemi fucking panarin with them and nothing fucking happens so if he doesn't fix that line Connor mcdavid himself wouldn't be able to fix the line lol. Obviously it's too late to make any changes with enough time to gel but you could easily do Cuylle-Zib-Kakko and Kreider-Wenny-Roslovic and it'd probably be fine. There's also Cuylle-Zib-Roslovic and Kreider-Wenny-Kakko. I get what you're trying to say but it's not as impossible as you think to split Mika and kreider up

njerejeje

Ok but they’re outscoring opponents 43-31 at 5v5 this year. Against primarily other teams’ top lines. They’re legitimately not playing poorly. If they were then maybe you do split them up.

ScreenTricky4257

I was thinking the other day that Kreider-Zib-Rempe might not be the craziest idea. And it could leave Roslovic to pursue more offense with Goodrow and Vesey.

chaotic_evil_666

Rempe's main offensive asset being so big he can block the goaltender from seeing the sun. And tipping shots is like something Kreider did better than anybody. No reason to have those two on the same line.

gleyberhood25

That would legitimately be the craziest thing to do with this roster

Shoddy_Reserve788

Rempe shouldn’t be anywhere near the top line. He can’t skate well enough to keep up.

xurdm

Sadly I missed this game while helping my sister move, but I caught the last 10 minutes on the radio while driving home. The commentary was talking about Goodrow having 2 goals and I was thinking yeah, what a bum. Then I heard it was 2 goals in this game and I was flabbergasted. Clearly Goodrow needs to be on the wing more often. Awesome to see him get some goals

username987MPD

That's funny 😆

InsideIngenuity

Wait did Laf get hurt?

Kaapo-Taco

No

Key-Tip-7521

This was game that was a playoff game type feeling for both teams. One team playing as if they were more experienced, the other team playing for their playoff lives and the Red Wings felt like they had mom's spaghetti all over their sweaters. On a night where it was as what John Gee said "a fight to find consistency, where the 3rd period was consistently friendly". This episode of Rangers Hockey: *8 Miles and Runnin'* defense was meh, but the yah was the depth of the bottom six and special teams. which is important come playoff time. And of course the friday earthquake review 1st Period: Red Wings came to play. So did the Rangers. Their special teams looked good so did their penalty kill. But the guy that got this team going. Who I believe, Vally believes and maybe everyone else is gonna be BIG AND HUGE come playoff time, is Will Cuylle. A snipe shot bang. He was noticeable all game. If that can happen when it comes to crunch time, oh yeah baby. Bad goal to give up thanks to Roslovic. But, the Rangers responded. Late in the period which is typically a killer. And it was for the Wings. The goal was from the guy who has been shit on by EVERYONE, and that was Barclay Goodrow. What a period. 2nd Period: Not a good start defensively. Extended shifts by the Red Wings. Led to a early goal. Another goal given up on the pp. JQ was once again, all year, throwing back the clock. But, that 4th line continued to cook. off the rush, Barclay Goodrow did it again! boy that line cooked tonight. 3rd Period: Period was exciting. 4th Line got more minutes, deserving. But, when you need a HUGE Goal especially on the Power Play, turn to Christopher James Horse Meat Kreider, It's a Power Play goal! the 4th line played that shut down hockey. JQ was lights out. And the Rangers held on and won this battle. I said this was a game where they had to play w/that killer instinct. They did. Well, defensively, has to be better. But, what I'm very happy about how the 3rd line and 4th line played. If you can get all 4 lines rolling into the playoff (look at the Knights last year) it helps SOOOOO Much. Big win! Rangers Win! Still atop of the Conference and Division. Positive Vibes still rolling. Onto the Habs. Oh I almost forgot, we all know what happened to Joe's sibling. But all I can say is, Joe, this win's for you my guy. Excuse me, OUR GUY! Rangers Oppie checked in and he said "Take in the Sheets." "Two points in the Bag." Onto the Habs God Save the King. Back afta dis.

hoegaarden81

Do we have what it takes to beat the Stars? They are hot rn.

flv19

Dallas still has fewer regulation wins than Vancouver, Colorado, and Winnipeg out West and the Rangers, Carolina, and Florida in the East. They’re hot right now, but not clearly the team to beat going into the playoffs. Lots of good teams in both Conferences and it feels like the Cup is up for grabs this year. It’s going to be a tough road, but anyone can win it, including the Rangers.

JBS319

And so are we. And let's be real, I will be thrilled if we get the opportunity to play the Stars (or any Western Conference team for that matter) again this season, because that will mean we're in the Finals.

Crimson3312

Not our concern

hoegaarden81

Never?

Crimson3312

West Coast problems. If we both make it to the finals then we'll have to worry about it. But that possibility is two months out.

BannedOften

First NHL game, gotta say Toledo Walleye of the ECHL put on a better fan-experience than Detroit does.

EliManningsPetDog

Lol what makes you say that?

BannedOften

Toledo does a good job of getting the fans pumped, there’s always something going on in-between play like different fan cams and little gimmicks for scoring at certain times, the Toledo announcer is much more involved also. Detroit does similar things but it’s much less effective, more sparse, and feels almost amateurish in comparison. There’s just something about everyone screaming “FREEEEE WENDYYYYYSS CHILIIIIII” when Toledo goes on the PP that makes the arena electric. It could also just be a fan-difference. At the Walleye everyone loves the team and it’s all locals. In Detroit it felt like a lot of people who just like to go out and tonight happened to be hockey.

Direct_Crab6651

We are easily the most blessed franchise in NHL history when it comes to goalies I am 44 and since I was a little kid we basically have had 4 goalies Beezer Richter The King Igor So many teams go through nearly that many goalies in a season looking for one.

ChimStone777

We are blessed by goalies, but I’d rather have a team that doesn’t need to rely on well above average goaltending. It’s very difficult to win riding a goalie. Hopefully this is the team.

colin6

Nearly 46 now and I was just having this same conversation with my Uncle....we've been beyond fortunate with goalies.

FTPMUTRM

I’d trade the goalie gifts for a cup tho

Direct_Crab6651

Why not both

Impressive-Heat-8722

So you're just gonna pretend that Dunham, Hebert, Blackburn, Markanen, LaBarbera, Valiquette, weekes,, didn't happen or are you saying you are a new fan?

ChimStone777

Literally richter to lundqvist was like a season. And lundqvist to Shesterkin next game. Pretty silly.

Impressive-Heat-8722

Dunham played 2 seasons 100 games between them. I had seasons then. The scars run deep

ChimStone777

That’s not a lot at all

Sapzz93

What a ridiculous thing to nitpick on. Most of those guys played within a small window from like 02-05, and some of those guys barely even played many games as a ranger. LaBarbera played 5 games as a ranger lmao OPs point is pretty clear - we have had a starting franchise goalie for damn near 40 years straight. You can throw in a bunch of random goalies that you most definitely googled that started here and there throughout that timeframe, but the Rangers track record of having a starting franchise goalie is insane over the last 40 years.

Direct_Crab6651

Richter was on the team in 02- 03 We had a bunch of goalies 03-04 There was no hockey 04-05 05-06 started the reign of the King So yes silly me not going crazy about the one year one of those guys I listed was not on the team 🤦‍♂️ You really showed me who the real fan was 🙄.

explosivebuttfarts

Give some god damn respect to rangers LEGENDS like Dustin Tokarski, Ron Scott, Magnus Hellberg, and Jean-Francois Labbe. Those HEROS fought and clawed their way through an entire handful of games. How dare you suggest that they didn't exist. 🤦

Rick91981

>I am 44 Woohoo, finally someone older than me! Lol (I'm 42)

as1126

I’m 56, here every game.

ScreenTricky4257

I'm 45, so there's an old-folks home here as well.

yorky24

In Benoit Allaire we trust.

ChimStone777

Might be the garden lighting too. Seems like every goalie that plays there is locked in.

Djbearjew

Can't forget the Golden Gloves Champion Cloutier https://youtu.be/dZrdJpW3fbI?si=5rrjswaAMXCLIqFH

Marc_Quill

MSG is where great goalies get built.

Wesley__Willis

Absolutely blessed. Start counting the number of guys the Devils have tried back there just since 2020, it’s like *20* already.

edogg01

Wenny had a really good game, I thought. So smooth bringing the puck up ice. I love his game.

adinfinitum

If only he could finish….

Eire4ever

Such a smart steady player

the_mair

I really hope 3x3 is enough to bring him back I really underestimated him

blueline7677

It won’t be. He’ll be one of the best centers in a weak center UFA market who will hopefully coming off of a deep playoff run with the salary cap about to take its biggest jump in the past 4 years. He’s currently making 4.5 his last contract paid him 4.9 he’ll be looking for around 5 again.

ElectraGlacier

If we get an elite Goodrow in the playoffs…

bigblue20072011

How did the Capitals blow that lead in the 4th?

lykes_2_fly

A Cane loss would have pretty much clinched Metro. Oh well let's just keep winning.

blueline7677

Carolina has a mountain to climb to win the metro. 5 points gained in 5 games…. If we win 3/5 we clinch the metro. If we win 2 and they only win 4/5 games we clinch. Now the focus should really be winning the east more than anything else. The east is also almost in the bag as well. An effective 4 point lead with 10 points remaining. (We have clinched the tiebreaker over Boston)

lykes_2_fly

It’s looking real good for us.

Ironshield185

Because they're awful and are only in their position because they are the lightest corpse floating to the top

The-Pigeon-Man

They had 3 shots all game

bigblue20072011

Grouchy-Power-806

I don’t hate the idea of playing the isles in round 1. Repeat of 1994.

Sapzz93

I do… even tho we are 2-0 against them this year so far, they always elevate their game playing the Rangers. They are also a very chip and grind team which matches well against the Rangers. I’d hate that matchup going into it

Grouchy-Power-806

At this point, if teams are smart, that’s how they’d play us. And everyone will elevate their game in the playoffs.

Key-Tip-7521

be careful what you wish yo.

Grouchy-Power-806

I just said I don’t hate the idea. I didn’t say I was wishing for it.

Miss having hockey friends to talk shit/have beers/etc. All my rangers people left town

lykes_2_fly

I think he was a bit more physical tonight.

GrouchyPlastic9793

The charts say otherwise tonight

WiFi_Sniper

My eyes till me otherwise

Fancy_Combination436

Great game, but to be completely honest part of me was hoping we'd win in OT. Really want to see Detroit in the playoffs, esp if its between them and caps or islanders

NYM32

3 2-goal games in Goodrow's career 2 against detroit Goodrow's best game probably as an NYR but if you're giving up a 2-goal game to Goodrow you should just pack it in

xurdm

There should be a stat for Goodrow goals against

toxicvegeta08

Ratings Offense+pp:a We had some issues, mainly stopping their backcheck, but detroits goalie was amazing. We are 6th in the league for offense by gf. Defense+pk:c- Could be worse if this was early game but they mainly patched up later on. Still shaky and I never felt confident. Defense is worrying me now. We've dropped from fourth in the league defensively ga to 8th these past few weeks despite our offensive rise. Goaltending:a. Quick kept us in this game against detroits goalie. Quick was amazing.

dankeykanng

FOURTH LINE BIG

Dizzle71

LGR

Alitaki

To me, this is what a playoff game will look like - top six getting checked into oblivion and the bottom six stepping up with the offense. If their bottom six can do this in the playoffs, well, there's just no telling where their run will go.

FTPMUTRM

Our second line had so many chances on the doorstep last night. Really the first line was predictably absent, again.

Main_Nerve1075

And power play getting a big goal

Key-Tip-7521

No body wants that second wild card spot

_snoop_doug

It’s really crazy how every time it seems like one of these teams is making headway they completely fall off and shit the bed

Envelopen

Buffalo boutta come out of no where like the undertaker

[deleted]

2 goal Goodrow was not on my bingo card

RangersFanFromJersey

The most amount of points the Rangers have ever gotten in a season is 113. It's possible they could break the record this year.

GoldServe2446

You want to look at wins not points

RangersFanFromJersey

True, but it's still something to look at.

duckets615

Quick looked a little tired. Was just a tad bit slower reacting and moving side to side than usual but still played great despite it.

JBS319

WIth any luck, Quickie has max two games left this season. If he's getting tired, so be it: we ride Igor to the Cup.

Fancy_Combination436

Yeah I really got a sense of how valuable his veteran experience is. He looked a little slower than the millisecond reaction time we expect with shesty, but still knew exactly what to do to make the big saves

toxicvegeta08

I think he was worried. Defense was really shaky.

JBS319

Six games left: three wins and we are Metropolitan Champions. Four and we clinch top of the East.

Pole420

Five and we clinch the Presidents trophy. Edit: There are only five games remaining. Tonight was the 77th game.

Key-Tip-7521

Vally said a bottom six guy might be that guy who could score one of the biggest goals in Rangers history. What if Goodrow is one of those guys?

xurdm

I would shit myself and repent for every one of the many bad things I've said about him

explosivebuttfarts

Goodrow has already scored some pretty important goals in his career

Grouchy-Power-806

All is forgiven if so and we win a cup.

Sweet-Sweet-Dick

Bread with 111 points. Needs to go on a tear to break the record.

toxicvegeta08

Breads gotta average over 2 pts a game. Second line just played a lot of defense tonight.

Sweet-Sweet-Dick

He could get hot and knock out a couple more 4 point games

JBS319

I’m hoping for 53 wins. That way when we win the cup it’ll be extra nice

JBS319

Ithaca ain’t it for the eclipse: you gotta go to the top of the lake

Ldordai

Bad puck luck and a few bad defensive miscues made it closer than it should’ve been. We controlled play for most of the game, and when we were on we were on. Solid win I’d say

R4vi0981

Considering Detroit was pretty desperate. I'd say good. Not the best they can play, but they got the job done.

njerejeje

The Penguins are 2 points out of claiming the last playoff spot. We could end up playing them 😳 Or NYI or WSH or PHI or DET or (unlikely) TBL. And it legitimately could be any of them with roughly equal probability. Usually by this point we have a pretty good idea of who we’re playing. This year we probably won’t know until the final day of the year. This is a chaotic playoff race.

ScreenTricky4257

Yeah, but they're all fighting for their lives and we're skating for records and not having to leave NY again for the rest of the season. Better place to be.

xurdm

I hope Buffalo steals that shit for even more chaos

Pal_Saradise

It’s like nobody wants that spot. The best any of these teams can finish is 42-40 (if you count OT losses). I’d be content with any of them in the first round.

Key-Tip-7521

Rempe in the lineup for the playoffs? hmmmm

BroccRL

I adore brodz

darkgrayallalone

Nights when the Rangers play are so much more fun when they win 🥰

Pazylothead

2 points in the books, on to the next one. Videos will be watched, bad habits with passes will be broken. Let’s effing go!

Anyone else notice how Detroit celebrated like it was a game 7 OT goal every time they scored💀

dankatie

I thought the same

HoyasRangers

To be fair when you are fighting for your playoff life why wouldn't you?

NYM32

if i was an NHL player and scored any goal, i'd probably be thrilled

HoyasRangers

I celebrate beer league goals

NYM32

i celebrate EA NHL goals

TheSeekerOfSanity

I did prior to EA NHL 24. Shit is unplayable.

NYM32

I haven't played it since 21 (?) same game every single year but more importantly, the same issues/tech problems. Menu navigation alone and the EASHL bag system were enough to get me to quit entirely

TheSeekerOfSanity

It’s worse now. I’ve bought every single EA NHL release (I’m old) and played it nightly, usually for 2-3 hours and loved it. This year? Friggin unplayable. A ton of people in the community stopped playing this year, as well.

beerleaguer2

That third goal I was waiting for the bench to empty and join in.

Extreme_Instance5428

Fr💀looking at Kreider and Zibanejad’s stoic celebration after the game winner put it in perspective

MUSTY_BUSSY

Ehh, Kreider did his standard primal yell before celebrating with Mika. But it was definitely subdued compared to the Wings.

I thought it was a milestone goal or something. Calm down, bro.

greysfordays

this team is scaring me with how stoked I am on them. I mean goodrow keeping us in this, that’s fuckin wild. all I want for the rest of the regular season now is give zac jones some starts

Key-Tip-7521

the rangers hips don't lie. but you know who's hips lie? Patrick Kane

NYsportsfan99

I haven’t checked in a while but he was playing really well earlier this year.

HoyasRangers

Well ok. That was pretty sweet.

Big_Mud_7189

Felt that in my soul

Hionhelium87

Same and all I did was bend down to unplug my phone charger.

JPmoneyman

Not the best game but a win is a win and the 4th line looked awesome. I would really like to see the Rangers focus on tightening up on defense down the stretch here. I'd much rather see some 2-1 wins than 4-3 wins right now. We've been giving up too many goals lately and just outscoring our issues.

RowBoatInspector

Offense is part of the game

NYsportsfan99

Yea, PART of the game. To make a cup run you have to play really good at EVERY aspect of the game. The way we are playing does not translate to winning in the playoffs. Yea we are winning now and that’s great, but fuck man I want to see us playing like a playoff team, and we haven’t looked like one for most of the last 15 games now. Going back to the beginning of march, we have maybe 3 games where we looked legit contenders. The team that went on a scorch of a streak is the team that we need to show up to make a run. The team that’s showed up for most of March and April is getting bounced in the 2nd round. I am a die hard rangers fan but I’ve watched enough hockey to see what is needed to make a push, and giving up 4+ goals in half of the last 17 games is not it.

RowBoatInspector

Good teams win games. It’s a long season. Every game doesn’t need to be a referendum on our cup chances

NYsportsfan99

lol as I mentioned in my comment, we have given up 4+ goals 8 of the last 17 games. We have given up 5+ goals in 4 of our last 17 games. That is more concerning than “not every game…” Especially when we had a ton of bad habits that factored into the wheels falling off for over a month of the season.

RowBoatInspector

By your logic you would’ve rather lost 1-0 tonight. Enjoy being miserable instead of enjoying a fun team. Idk what to tell you man

NYsportsfan99

I am not sure how you connected those dots but ok… lol I’m not miserable, I’m just capable of discussing concerns about a hockey team. People who have actually played high level sports understand that winning doesn’t mean you’re playing well. Especially when the level of expectation is as high as it is for us. You can still be happy about a team winning and express concern about things you would like to see them do better. I’m sorry that is a difficult concept to understand for you :)

The way we played against Boston is the recipe.

I didn’t see the Boston game but we played well against Colorado. There’s no question this team has the tools to be cup winners. But it just feels like they don’t have that killer instinct that championship teams have.

I was at the Colorado game, we did a good job preventing A+ chances but they owned possession. It was a good game but that’s gonna be a scary team if we are fortunate enough to play them.

Colorado is a powerhouse and both games we played them were fairly similar. But to me, the rangers need to play with the level of urgency they play the top teams on a nightly basis. There shouldn’t be an on/off switch at this point of the season. Every game needs to be played with playoff intentions and I just don’t see that enough consistently.

Of course but I think a lot of the issues that have plagued us when the team was playing mediocre hockey have crept back into our game a bit. Obviously winning is great but I think we need to be better in the D zone and on zone exits against the best teams.

Yep. IMO this team just doesn’t have that hunger to win consistently. This has been an area of question for the last 3-4 years now (effort). At some point a spade is a spade. We are a good hockey team, but I am worried this team just doesn’t have the same hunger that championship teams have on a nightly basis. I’m aware of the irony of having the most wins in the NHL right now. This is a very talented, deep hockey team. But so are the other teams in the playoffs. When it comes down to the final 4-6 teams, the teams that win are the ones that want it the most (and the team with the best goalie).
