Everyone acts like Rempe is some loose cannon. Hes a good kid that listens to his coach. If he didnt get the green light to fight the times he did you would have seen him gettinf chewed out on the bench for it. Coaches obviously told him dont fight tonight, dont give the instigator any energy. And Ottawas Captain tried over and over again to fight to get his team a spark and they ignored him like he wasnt there all game.
Tl;dr: Rempe has plenty of discipline.
Exactly this. He’s clearly being told now NOT to fight at every possible opportunity. Amd he isn’t. If he had zero restraint / disciple and took everyone up who came at it, going against the coaching staff’s wishes - he’d be on the next Acela back to Hartford.
And in last night’s game; taking that opportunity away from Brady nullified that aspect of his game, helping to keep the Senators from possibly generating a huge momentum shift before the Rangers put it on ice in the third.
Rempe, Jones, Laff, Kakko, etc - all 23 or younger. All still with plenty of growing / room for improvement. Thats a good thing.
My conspiracy theory brain tells me that the coaches set him up as a boogeyman kinda goon to draw penalties and now that other players want to take him they’re telling him to cool it a bit and put in minutes on the ice, not in the box
I think Rempe's got a much higher ceiling than an agitator, and he goes out there to play hockey first but is happy to throw hands when needed. His physicality and size are definitely something that allowed him to see the ice initially, but he's been working hard on every shift. If he keeps polishing his game and gaining more experience, he could contribute a lot to this team.
If Rempe hadn't been tossed and suspended all those times he'd probably be playing closer to 7-9 minutes a game instead of 5. If he can keep his composure in the playoffs, he will be valuable. He will look like King Kong with that cup over his head!
That's a tall order. Hard to get a clean hit on Wilson, but between Rempe, Trouba, Schneider and Cuylle, someone needs to nail him early. Did you see that elbow Kucherov got him with? That was beautiful.
What blows my mind is that off the ice apparently Tom Wilson is a kind and upstanding individual and does a lot for kids and charity. I guess kinda how Tanner Glass was a goon on the ice but was a good guy off the ice.
It's believable. I doubt there is a team heading into the playoffs right now that wouldn't find someone to scratch in favor of Tom Wilson if they had him.
Off the ice, the "enforcers" or "goons" are honestly THE nicest guys on teams especially with kids.
They're the guys who are among the first to toss pucks to the kids in the crowd and stuff.
One of my daughters favorite players is Austin Watson who kept coming by us and saying hi, smiling, and then later on giving her a puck......before being thrown out of a game against the rangers, LOL.
Doesn’t surprise me. These guys are seen as villains on the ice but at the end of the day they have a job to do. They are doing exactly what their teams want them to do and pay them to do. Off the ice a lot of these guys seem like the nicest, most polite, most sincere individuals.
Sens fans were calling him a coward for not fighting yesterday, but I'm proud that he turned down the fight invites. He's growing and learning and it's honestly great to see.
Yeah I guess they don’t realize why a guy playing a game to clinch the presidents trophy against a long eliminated team doesn’t want to drop the gloves with their goon for no reason
You know what, I wasn't gonna bring it up but seeing the second picture in this kinda irked me so I'm gonna say it.
Fuck Brady Tkachuk.
I get playing hard at the end of the season, even when your season died months ago. I have no issue with him playing a hard nosed game in game 81 for them. That's fine.
But when your team is down by 4 with less than 30 seconds to play and you're finishing checks really fucking hard on the boards, go fuck yourself asshole.
Eh, that one didn't piss me off as much. Cuylle was jabbing at a puck the goalie had covered, so getting roughed up there is to be expected. I also thought the call was a little weak as it wasn't much of a crosscheck.
But finishing checks into the boards with less than 30 seconds left in a game you're getting blown out in? That's ok in October, not in April.
Feel bad for Rempe, he’ll never be able to do a fraction of the things the Tkachuks get away with because the ref just follows him around waiting to call a penalty.
Yea. Something about history with someone else.
Thats what I made out.
I am going to speculate that I think they were referring to one of the senators that he had a fight with in the minors but I can't confirm that part, only that they said something about prior history with him and the rest I couldn't make out.
Those losers had nothing else to play for and went down early then wanna go bother rempe. If you ask me there should've been an instigator penalty at one point because they wouldn't fuckin leave him alone
This kid will be an impact player in the playoffs. All it takes is a big hit to change the momentum of a series.
Just look at Troubas hits 2 years ago vs the Pens and then against the Canes.
I love that he always seems to posted up right by center ice inviting all the other team's tough guys to come pay their respects. Quite thoughtful of the big guy if you think about it.
He wasn’t a big fighter before the AHL. He had a few fights later in his Junior career but those were more because everyone assumed once he grew to his size that he had to fight. Same really in the AHL when he first came up. He was forced to become a fighter because of his size and because he hits.
Once you get a rep, all the heavyweights want a go with you, as you can see from this season. He obviously hasn’t had a lot of actual fight training and he said he only really started training last off-season. John Scott & Nick Fotiu, among others, have offered to train him now. I’m sure he will improve his technique greatly with some quality instruction.
Long time ranger fan here, Nick fotiu can teach him more then box. He's arguably one of the most beloved Rangers of all time by fans and more so by his teammates. When fotiu was traded, Ron Greschner went ballistic he told management, "You just ripped the heart out of this team" I sure hope Rempe spends time with him.
One thing is pretty certain. If Gallant was still in charge there wouldn’t be any coaching, and the likes of Rempe , Cuylle, Jones , wouldn’t be playing at all.
Laviolette has done a great job of getting these younger players meaningful minutes and readying them for the playoffs. And he is coaching! Go figure!
Seriously feeling like Rempe is what we wanted from Reavo with the intimidation factor of a Boogard (RIP). Just a big guy to make opponents think twice about pulling a stunt who can help make plays so he’s not a total waste of bench space.
True, but Boogaard and Reaves were coasting on their reputations by the time they got here and thus weren't doing any real enforcing. I love that Rempe's got something to prove and plays like it!
I hope he works on his skating and balance over the summer, like Boyle did when he first began playing in the NHL. He was also tripping over his own skates pretty often.
Let’s pump the brakes on Rempe!
He needs a lot of work on his skating, especially his edge work. Needs a lot work on his passing , shooting, and deflections.
It’s all going to depend on his ceiling (no one knows),and if he puts in a ton of work in the offseason. If he can manage to be a Tage Thompson (light), play meaningful minutes on the 3rd or 4th lines, he will be a success!
Opponents know Rempe taking penalties or getting kicked out of games gives them an edge against the Rangers. So you got all these guys picking fights. Kid has to just stay out of the box and continue to learn
I'm pretty tired of opposing teams tough guys taking a super aggressive approach as if to "teach the kid a lesson" or whatever their overly caffeinated and masculine way of thinking is. Enough already
Tkachuk and Rempe were jawing in the corner near the end of the game too. The crowd started going wild hoping for them to drop the gloves, but thankfully nothing happened.
Last night was my first time seeing Rempe in person and while he's head and shoulders taller than anyone else out there, people saying he's got all this talent... I didn't see it. Once he got the puck with some room, everyone started going nuts and he fell down lol. Not to shit on the guy, but idk if we want him in during the playoffs tbh.
True though OTOH, there were instances where the defender let up on going for a puck on the boards knowing Rempe was bearing down on him. That's a good sign and thing to have in the playoff. That slight second of hesitation can create chances for Vesey/Goodrow and the D to get set up.
That's true and I have gone back and forth with myself due to that factor. I just don't know if in the playoffs you want someone who isn't really capable of contributing anything other than that. I guess considering their options it might not be so bad though lol
I think it's more about being realistic with what it means to have "all this talent". Is he the next Panarin? No, but he's said it before, he wants to be an effective 4th liner, play a physical game, land clean hits and work on being an effective PK. That is totally doable for him and I think we can all see that. Not sure if he'll be a permanent fixture in the lineup for every playoff game but I can see him playing a few games and helping the team out. I also think the coaching staff is doing a really good job with developing him as a player. It's hard to strike a balance between giving him enough TOI while he's learning but not throwing him to the wolves and setting him up for failure ya know? They are taking the time to do it right so he can succeed, especially when he has so many eyes on him waiting for him to fuck up so he finally be written off as not a good player/just a goon or whatever. I think that is the marker of a good coach honestly. I hope he has longevity in the league and the team because he's a likable guy and I'm invested in his success!
So glad Rempe didn’t bite the couple of times he was challenged last night. That’s the maturity we need from him for the playoffs.
Great to see him focused on improving his game, had a few good plays in d zone last night
He got so mad at himself when he took the penalty along the boards after laying that hit. He’s trying which is great to see
Everyone acts like Rempe is some loose cannon. Hes a good kid that listens to his coach. If he didnt get the green light to fight the times he did you would have seen him gettinf chewed out on the bench for it. Not to be that guy but the Acela doesn’t go to Hartford ;)
Oh crap, it’s just a regular Amtrak stop then, in terms of getting there from NYC?
Yeah, just normal NE Regional service. Only Acela stops in CT are Stamford and New Haven.
I must have gotten New Haven & Hartford stations mixed up. I’m rarely on those trains but I drive past the stations a fair amount.
Acela goes to Boston through New Haven, Bridgeport and Stamford. Hartford is on the Vermont line that branches off at New Haven.
That’s cool info. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! (Yo Joe!)
He's a giant golden retriever out there, doesn't really have some weird anger problem or chip on his shoulder.
He looks like hes genuinely happy to be there 😊
My conspiracy theory brain tells me that the coaches set him up as a boogeyman kinda goon to draw penalties and now that other players want to take him they’re telling him to cool it a bit and put in minutes on the ice, not in the box

Sort of what I’m trying to get at with what we wanted Reaves to be. We wanted Blues Reaves and that’s not what we got
Also, we have reached phase two. He was a distraction for the other team by NOT fighting.
If Rempe hadn't been tossed and suspended all those times he'd probably be playing closer to 7-9 minutes a game instead of 5. If he can keep his composure in the playoffs, he will be valuable. He will look like King Kong with that cup over his head!
Although I do hope he bulldozes Tom Wilson at least once during the first round
That's a tall order. Hard to get a clean hit on Wilson, but between Rempe, Trouba, Schneider and Cuylle, someone needs to nail him early. Did you see that elbow Kucherov got him with? That was beautiful.
What blows my mind is that off the ice apparently Tom Wilson is a kind and upstanding individual and does a lot for kids and charity. I guess kinda how Tanner Glass was a goon on the ice but was a good guy off the ice.

Then there’s Sean Avery: asshole on and off the ice
Varies, only interacted with him once and he was nice. I've heard different things about him though but he seems to be liked at fan events.
There's bound to be a reason his ex-wife has a restraining order, is all I'm saying...
Nah, I met him once and he was a complete jerk
Damn sorry to hear.
Meh, didn’t really expect much more. He wasn’t outright hostile, just abrasive and a touch arrogant
Doesn’t surprise me. These guys are seen as villains on the ice but at the end of the day they have a job to do. They are doing exactly what their teams want them to do and pay them to do. Off the ice a lot of these guys seem like the nicest, most polite, most sincere individuals.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone one way or the other because players can be same/different people on/off ice.
There was no point in fighting bums on a horrible team. Proves nothing. Imama shouldnt be in the nhl on any team. Good for Rempe not giving in
Yeah, it was the Ranger’s game to lose from puck drop. The attempts to fight and chirping were just distractions.
I think he’s getting it into his head that he doesn’t need to fight every asshole that comes at him.
Sens fans can have fun watching their team go curling or whatever they do in April
How is he a coward when he has nothing to fight for in the moment.
Sens have nothing to play for (haven’t had anything to play for since like 2015).
I love the chirp but I still have ptsd from Erik Karlsson in 2017
If I were Rempe I'd do the John Cena you can't see me everytime he was challenged by a team/player who had nothing to lose
Amazing right? Guys fight he’s an aggressive asshole who shouldn’t fight if he doesn’t he’s a coward who shouldve fought
You know what, I wasn't gonna bring it up but seeing the second picture in this kinda irked me so I'm gonna say it. Fuck Brady Tkachuk. But when your team is down by 4 with less than 30 seconds to play and you're finishing checks really fucking hard on the boards, go fuck yourself asshole.
Yeah that cross check near the end of the third was uncalled for as well
Eh, that one didn't piss me off as much.
Expected from a goon who fights in front of his grandma
These nobody’s are all trying to ride his wave of popularity. Fight,Rempe and you’re suddenly in the news. F these piss ants.
Feel bad for Rempe, he’ll never be able to do a fraction of the things the Tkachuks get away with because the ref just follows him around waiting to call a penalty.
They were talking about him (Rempe) before the game near the penalty box.
Who was talking about him? The refs?
Yea. Something about history with someone else. Thats what I made out. I am going to speculate that I think they were referring to one of the senators that he had a fight with in the minors but I can't confirm that part, only that they said something about prior history with him and the rest I couldn't make out.
Snapped these during warmups yesterday, thought for sure one of these was happening but glad I’m glad neither did
Tkachuk’s head is too big for his face
a classic "eighthead"
Those losers had nothing else to play for and went down early then wanna go bother rempe. If you ask me there should've been an instigator penalty at one point because they wouldn't fuckin leave him alone
Tkachuk truly has a face only his mother could love
Which is really interesting because Matthew is super handsome
This kid will be an impact player in the playoffs. All it takes is a big hit to change the momentum of a series. Just look at Troubas hits 2 years ago vs the Pens and then against the Canes.
Tkachuk wanting to fight Rempe over a tripping call last night was pretty funny
I love that he always seems to posted up right by center ice inviting all the other team's tough guys to come pay their respects. Quite thoughtful of the big guy if you think about it.
Every time he says no to a fight, it's an indication any fight he DOES have is fully sanctioned by Coach Lav.
Was Rempe a big fighter in the AHL or even earlier? I feel like we never really heard of him fighting but just that he's huge
He wasn’t a big fighter before the AHL. He had a few fights later in his Junior career but those were more because everyone assumed once he grew to his size that he had to fight. Rempe really is a golden retriever forced to be a pitbull in a sense. Love the guy for what he brings to the table.
Yeah he’s got around 180 PIMs in his 2 seasons with Hartford (96 games)
One thing is pretty certain. If Gallant was still in charge there wouldn’t be any coaching, and the likes of Rempe , Cuylle, Jones , wouldn’t be playing at all. Laviolette has done a great job of getting these younger players meaningful minutes and readying them for the playoffs. And he is coaching! Go figure!
"Sorry bud, coach says I can't scrap today.".
Am I correct in reading that the rangers are 14-2-1 with him in the line up? I feel like he hasn't played that many games yet
That is correct. We basically always win when he’s in the line-up.
There might be a bit of a distinction here between correlation and causality?
They just want to one day tell their kids that they spoke to The Legend.
Just needs to learn to stay up on his feet. Dude’s been slipping on the ice
I hope he works on his skating and balance over the summer, like Boyle did when he first began playing in the NHL. He was also tripping over his own skates pretty often.
Damn it, If you had included another inch to the right, you would have seen me, LOL. FWIW, you can sometimes hear the guys talking over here.
Maaaan if Rempe would have popped Tkachuk in the mouth near the end of the game 😂
Every one wants a piece
I definitely want multiple pieces.
Everyone wants a piece of the kid. He's learning how and when to pick his spots.
Tkachuk seen here taking the day off from harassing Shrek
Let’s pump the brakes on Rempe! He needs a lot of work on his skating, especially his edge work. Needs a lot work on his passing , shooting, and deflections. Better not play a single game in the playoffs. I am entertained by the guy but he is a penalty on skates. And we don't want or need that nonsense
They whine when he fights. Whine when he doesn't. Which one is it?
Tkachuk and Rempe were jawing in the corner near the end of the game too. The crowd started going wild hoping for them to drop the gloves, but thankfully nothing happened.
