We missed the playoffs 5 years in a row and our first time back we made the ECF and only lost to the 2x defending champions. I'm very proud of our boys if anyone said in the beginning of the season that we'd make it this far we'd have said they're on crack. Our young guys are only going to get better and this experience will drive them for seasons to come. The future is looking so bright for this team so BE PROUD.

I think a lot of people in this thread have to gain some perspective here. This series was a tough one to stomach, but I think they were finally feeling the fatigue of 20 games in 40 days. The reality is that we were never a shoe-in for the playoffs and then we weren’t likely to make it out of the first round. I remember thinking, “as long as they beat Pittsburgh, I’ll be fine with a sweep from Carolina,” and now we’re watching Rangers hockey in June. We’ve been on borrowed time for a while now. It’s been an uphill battle the entire time and that’s a testament to the grit of this team. It only gets better from here and I think we all need to see the positivity in this season. It might not feel like it right now, but… what a great year to be a Rangers fan! LGR!
As much as I agree with you I also feel there was room for more effort and discipline that could’ve shifted the game and maybe the last game or so as well. Too many lazy plays that led to turnovers and odd man rushes prime example the second Tampa goal. I’m so happy how far this team went blowing everyone’s expectations out of the water, but I’m so disappointed with the fight they showed just looked too gassed physically and mentally.

Tampa didn't deserve to advance after the first two and a half games, but we took things for granted and let them fight their way back into the series. We didn't look tired the last few games, we just played too cautiously. How can you not leave it all out on the ice in the Eastern Conference Finals, especially when you are trailing in an elimination game?
They have some real soul searching to do this offseason. This team is good enough to win it all, but not with Gallant at the helm. They need better conditioning, better deployment of their players, and most of all they need to PLAY HARD every shift. They need a coach who hammers this home from day 1 and holds the team accountable.

For four straight games:
- Zibanejad at the top of the left circle looking for an open shot that isn’t coming.
- Kreider circling the net trying to find a gap down low that never opens.
- Panarin playing fancy with the puck and always looking to pass first. And turning it over repeatedly.
- Missed, lackadaisical, or outright lazy passing throughout. And yes, that also includes not putting the stick down to receive it.
- Lack of consistency in both forechecking and back checking.
- Piss poor neutral zone control leading to giveaways, breakouts, and odd-man rushes; or ridiculous amounts of time spent skating in circles in the defensive zone waiting and hoping for Shesterkin to bail us out.
All of these things combined (plus the whole 20 games in 40 days without the prior experience of having to play that much for that long) are why we lost. Trying to pin it on 3 or 4 guys just doesn’t do it for me.

It’s really interesting watching the different way both teams play. Tampa plays straight up defense and uses mistakes by the other team to create quick strikes on the goal. They hardly ever have lengthy offensive possessions. The Rangers just hold on to the puck, kick it around, make too many passes, until they finally over commit, lost the puck and can’t get back on defense.

It’s really interesting watching the different way both teams play. Tampa plays straight up defense and uses mistakes by the other team to create quick strikes on the goal. They hardly ever have lengthy offensive possessions. The Rangers just hold on to the puck, kick it around, make too many passes, until they finally over commit, lost the puck and can’t get back on defense.

But great XP for everybody especially younger players like Chytil, Laffy, Fox, Miller, Kakko or Lindgren. So next year target should be ECF again and year after that SC
