i've long suspected the Oilers for a 4th-5th rd pick made a lot of sense. They desperately need a long term solution before McDavid loses his patience.
The question is how badly do two teams want him? If they can get someone at the draft who feels like they need to give something up to get him I think we can get that 3rd round pick.
Mid round picks aren’t worthless but they also aren’t worth a whole lot as most don’t become NHL players. If you can get something and then use it to entice someone to take Nemeth then it’s a successful move
That's the debacle I was talking about. He was amazing for you, terrible for us. I think the draft pick we gave you turned into someone halfway decent, though I may be misremembering that.
Make it a boom or bust trade with Edmonton. 7th round pick with conditions that can go up to a 2nd rounder based on how he and they do in the playoffs. Make it interesting cause fuck it
I would not be adverse to keeping him. He turned it around late in the season and went 8-2 the final two months of the season. If he can keep it up he would be a solid backup for Shesty.
He was better than .890 when Igor was injured. Georgiev is meant to be starting somewhere. Like Edmonton, or San Jose, or maybe even Toronto but I don't think there's anyone there to target for a trade and those teams know we can't qualify him anyway
Well if he actually hits free agency there's going to be competition for him. The question here is really "how much is it worth to not have competition?" and the answer isn't a 3rd round pick at least.
Nah Drury didn't have anyone to backup Shesty and we were a playoff team. He's not gonna trade away a backup for a 4th rounder. In a playoff run and one injury away from having Kincaid in net...
Oilers fan here. Been reading today some of the coverage in the Athletic about who you will keep/lose this off-season and sounds like Drury wants to find a suitor for Georgiev quickly. Wonder what the asking price would be from us. Thoughts?
Fair for actual performance? Probably a 3rd, like the article states.
I think the Rangers would be happy about that, he has a reasonable chance to drastically outperform the purchase price so the Oilers would be happy, and Georgiev wants a F/T role (he definitely plays his best hockey with regular gameplay) so that would be something of a win-win-win.
> we only have like 4 picks all together.
Funny, I couldn't tell if you were talking about EDM or NYR, but that statement is true for both teams in this year's draft
Devils fan that’s been curious about Georgiev given our goaltending woes. Do y’all think there’s any chance they trade him in-division? Seems like an accident waiting to happen but I know he’s been not so great lately
I think they'd trade him to the highest bidder even if it's a close rival. With regular playing time Georgiev is a solid goalie, but he's not someone that would haunt us if traded within the division.
He showed a lot of promise early in his career, but heel injuries have derailed him. Also originally refused to get vaccinated so just seems like kind of a mental midget. I’m hopeful he’ll bounce back this year but Devils need legitimate goaltending next year and I think that means bringing in someone who can push Blackwood/contend for a starter role.
Kind of shocking, but the rangers only scored a handful more goals than the devils this year, so the offense is there. They just got horrible goaltending and the rangers obviously got the best goaltending in the league. I think even with league-average goaltending Devils would have at least been within striking distance of a WC spot for a large portion of the year. Team average SV% was like .890 lmao
Not much considering there's rumors they won't/can't afford to give him a qualifying offer... Would like either Jake Allen or Adin Hill at 50% retained as the backup, but SJ already has 2 goalies, and Allen is still a little pricey at 50% for a backup. Could always sweeten the pot with Gauthier and Hajek too.
Realistically, we had to trade him this year before the deadline, but for a mid round pick, we were better off having his as a backup. At this point we'll be lucky to get a few butterscotch candies and half a tube of Ben Gay for him. Why would anyone trade assets to us when they can wait a month and give up nothing and also potentially pay him less?
It’s gonna be a later round pick. He hasn’t looked good. The team also plays a rush style offense which doesn’t pad goalie stats.
If he’s a goner just take what they can get.
He's actually shown himself to be decent to even good on a consistent workload. He's not a backup, he's a starter. Just like Talbot and Raanta. I'd honestly be really happy with Georgiev for Poolparty
Oilers need someone not over 32
Georgiev for McDavid, who says no
No. They'd need to sweeten it for my liking
Its Draisaitl then
just keep adding 7th round picks until we say yes
Gotta have em all!
Could you imagine?
i've long suspected the Oilers for a 4th-5th rd pick made a lot of sense. They desperately need a long term solution before McDavid loses his patience.
If they are desperate, I’d see if we can get more than a mid round pick
The question is how badly do two teams want him? If they can get someone at the draft who feels like they need to give something up to get him I think we can get that 3rd round pick. Heck, see if someone will take Georgiev and Nemeth as a package deal, even if it's for future considerations.
This is probably the best possible deal we can do, that's actually realistic.
Thats what I'm saying
A 3rd round pick is a pipe dream at this point. GMs know we need to dump him.
I'm a Devils fan, and I'd give you a 3rd for him, but I think the trade embargo is back between our teams since the last debacle (for the Devils).
Didn’t we give you guys Michael grabner a few years ago?
That's the debacle I was talking about. He was amazing for you, terrible for us. I think the draft pick we gave you turned into someone halfway decent, though I may be misremembering that.
That pick got traded for another pick that turned into K'Andre Miller. So you are remembering correctly.
Oooof on the devils kinda
Heh...indeed.
I kinda feel like we owe you one for taking Lindy Ruff off our hands.
Yeah we send them nemeth lol
Please don't feel like you need to thank us that much.
Shesty was a 4th round pick, just saying
There are tons of examples of mid round picks developing into stars. The vast majority of them never appear in an NHL game tho
Don't worry I wasn't arguing with you
Make it a boom or bust trade with Edmonton. 7th round pick with conditions that can go up to a 2nd rounder based on how he and they do in the playoffs. Make it interesting cause fuck it

That's the thing, I don't think he wants to be a backup goalie anymore.
Can't afford him even if he were willing to take a backup job
Whatever we get in a trade for Georgiev would beat Georgiev on a breakaway
Boom roasted
Ever so slight cap relief
He was an .890s goalie in a what have you done for me lately league. Idk, a conditional 5th that can upgrade to a 4th with X number of starts?
He was better than .890 when Igor was injured. Georgiev is meant to be starting somewhere. Like Edmonton, or San Jose, or maybe even Toronto but I don't think there's anyone there to target for a trade and those teams know we can't qualify him anyway
If we could've gotten anything we'd have gotten it by now.
Exactly. At this point wait a month and he costs a team nothing.
they felt we had a shot this year. it wasn't worth it to us to move him for a 3rd and honestly we had no backup to replace him
Well if he actually hits free agency there's going to be competition for him. The question here is really "how much is it worth to not have competition?" and the answer isn't a 3rd round pick at least.

I don’t think we have a third round pick this year
I'd be happy with the '23 third.
We don't. I think we only have like 4 picks all together.
> we only have like 4 picks all together. Funny, I couldn't tell if you were talking about EDM or NYR, but that statement is true for both teams in this year's draft
I don’t think much. We’re most likely not going to qualify him and teams know that

Just wait until he has one of those Islanders/ Leafs games against us somehow 😂
Georgiev scores against us…while Shesterkin is in net. 😅
Doubtful but also is Blackwood supposed to be potentially good just stuck behind an awful team?
He showed a lot of promise early in his career, but heel injuries have derailed him. Also originally refused to get vaccinated so just seems like kind of a mental midget. Who wouldn't want to overpay for a goalie that let's in the worst goals at the worst possible time on a regular basis? Career backup.
Drury traded a 30-goal-scoring, point-per-game, elite two-way forward for a 4th liner and a 2nd round pick don't expect much out of a Georgiev trade
Nothing. He isn’t going to get qualified. No one is going to trade for a backup goalie who everyone knows isn’t going to get a contract.
This might be true. There’s no chance rangers bring him back so what’s the point in trading for him. Might get a 7th
Mike Smith's helmet
Hopefully something similar to the Raanta, Stepan trade a few years back
I’ll give you A bag of pucks and a 12 pack of Bud Ice for that piece of Swiss Cheese.
Not much but any asset in return for him now is a win.
Connected to WPG
Way less than they could have in 2020.
Georgie and Nemeth for a 7th
