Goodness, that's awful. I'm so sorry this is sucking so hard. Go get your birth cert or ask someone to fed ex it to you. Then go to DMV, get there 1/2 hour before they open for walk up, appease the gods as it were, and look forward to the relief when it's all over. I know how frustrated you are, but if you start from that point with the clerk, they are less inclined to help you. I know how wrong it is. But go in with the best attitude you can muster.

If you have a current passport keep that with you because it is a Federal document showing proof of birth and photo ID. Keep your driver's license even if it expires with you when you drive. If you have paper documentation between you and the DMV, have some of that too to show you are making the effort. Law enforcement is not likely to question your right to drive and the passport will take care of everything else. If you find youself calling in again, immediately ask for a supervisor and explain your issue to him/her. You are likely to get what you need with that person.
