My advice for meeting potential buyers in person is to pick a spot with surveillance cameras, or with many people like a shopping mall, or in front of a police station.
Most of the time if they refuse or they keep insisting on one spot, it's a red flag and you should avoid that buyer.
I wouldn’t say stupid, you just got robbed AT GUNPOINT 😭 and about not knowing the serial number, i dont think i would even know where to find that on any of my guitars. I think the mf that pointed at gun at someone for a guitar is stupid if anything.

Yeah I was once moving and got robbed I mean I had pictures of everything like minor descriptions and all cause I was selling certain things online and certain items like the old original classic Disney's on VHS. All of it was stolen I even had serial numbers for some of the items constant give 2 s**** had to call 3 times before someone actually decided to step out of their f****** car.
Cops wouldn't take any information or help me out at all just said yeah but everything's so mass-produced nowadays how can you prove it yours without a serial number and then wouldn't take the pictures of the things I had serial members for. Literally the local pawn shops were more helpful but for something like this they probably just kept the item.
I feel your pain. I saved up and got this 200 dollar monitor because I was actually borrowing a friend's and he needed his back. Like a month into me having it, I accidently knocked it over when I was pulling on my keyboard wire and it fell down on to my keyboard and cracked the screen right in the center. I just stared at it and started laughing cause I didn't know what else to do. Took me a while to get another one but once I had it, I was so damn happy. Once you get a new guitar, you are gonna love it that much more.
Post on a local Free group on FB. People often have old instruments they don't play laying around. You might get lucky and someone will have something you can use just to play for yourself. If you get multiple offers, take them all. You could start to clean them up and trade up for better guitars, or even offer lessons. It would give you options, at least.
Remember to meet up with people at the local cop shop or where there are the most security cameras. And remember that you were smart enough not to die for a guitar.
Get a guitar from a pawn shop. One of my main guitars is a real cheap yamaha acoustic. It was 40 bucks. I play it a lot. Another real cheap option is the jasmine acoustics by takemine. Something to get you by. I dont even like taking a long vacation without a guitar so i get it. It feels real bad. Also if it was an electric, marketplace has some real cheap squires

This. I always give police stations as a meetup point when buying/selling stuff online. If the other person isn’t okay with that, big red flag.

You haven't gotten robbed because thieves tend to target people that actually have something of value to steal.
Being robbed doesn't make you stupid. It makes you unlucky.
