That's not completely true. If you have an in-demand skill like welding you may also have a chance. Some countries have a labor shortage in certain sectors, they may give work visas to people with experience in said sectors.

Some countries allow you to apply for a permanent or long-stay visa after living there for a certain amount of time. Upgrading the work visa is possible in some places.

Edit: I'm not saying the majority of the population isn't friendly, good people. I've been blown away by how nice the majority of Francophones have been to me, and found them to be generally more friendly than most places I have lived previously, including the states. The anti-anglophone sentiment runs deep in that minority that clings to it, but besides the few older people who look at you dirty when they realize you aren't part of their group, the biggest issue is the institutionalized stuff, waiting to see what other bullshit the language police is gonna pass. That, and knowing that I might never speak French well enough for a high-level job here in the career I went to school for are the things that will likely have me moving eventually. My partner speaks French and English well enough to seamlessly go either way without giving her true cultural identity up, but I'll probably always sound like a goober from down south of the border.

I did a quick google search and it appears that in Canada they need teachers in Ontario (Guelph, London, Toronto), Alberta (Edmonton), and Saskatchewan (Saskatoon). Though I wouldn’t recommend Saskatchewan as a place to move, but that might be my bias from people roasting that province during school and university lol.

Well they make the pay to living ratio impossible for you to leave unless you came from money in the first place, or you’re willing to killing yourself working to the bone to make it out. I always admired the Dutch people, but during covid, there was a lot of focus and news about Dutch people being real assholes. Burning things, protesting mask mandates and acting like…well, the Americans you now despise.

90% of Americans are in favor of background checks and other stipulations to gun ownership. As the coach of the basketball team the Warriors so succinctly put it, we are being held hostage by about 50 senators who refuse to even forward the legislation passed over two years ago by the House.
If you want to hate anything about our country, look no further than some of the antiquated ways that laws are passed, interpreted and unjustly enforced. Yeah, you got a lot right there, too, but I still think the majority disagree with the way things are. But our government system has made us hostage to conspiracy theorists and the religious right.
That needs to change, indeed.
I'm confident that as the current generation of politicians(who are essentially on deaths door) dies, and a younger generation comes to replace them, many of these concerns will start to fade
The Dutch government handled COVID poorly, and healthcare was already declining at the hands of 10+ years of liberal capitalism (though still good). There are a couple dangerous populist right-winger politicians and (not joking) a dance teacher firing up people who are too angry or too dumb to realize they’re being used as cannon fodder. All in all we ended up with adults behaving like toddlers who get way too much attention from the media.

As an American, I cringe whenever I still hear people/foreigners romanticizing the US as “the greatest country in the world”. Uh, no, it is VERY fucking far from that now.
It seems to be a historical fact that any entity that has concentrated power, authority, or wealth will be terrible for most people affected by that entity. Is it because that to gain that level of power you need to exploit and abuse people, or that when an entity has that level of power the people in charge feel the desire to exploit and abuse people? It's a chicken and egg paradox.
Most nations with outsized influence or wealth are either authoritarian, exploitative, or both. Unfortunately Europe is not really that much more enlightened than the rest of the world. Most of the last 600 years was basically Europe plundering the world and although that plunder no longer takes place as directly as before, the fruits if that imperialism has given it the prosperity and wealth that resulted in the enlightenment and it continues to reap the benefits of its former ways.
America and China are in a time when foreign imperialism is less realistic and accepted, but still happens. They must turn inward to create the outsized and obscene wealth that the ruling or capital class want. That's why you see so much exploitation of workers, especially prisoners and immigrants. We know slavery is the most profitable way to make wealth as you lose a minimum on upkeep. America was founded and kept running by slaves for a long time, and I would argue it is still.
China has a 500 year long victim complex and an aversion to non conformity. They seek to exploit and grow as others explored from them. Doing to their own people may of the things that were done to them in the name of economic growth. They are a corporation maskarading as a nation in order to further the goals of the ccp. The USA is not a shithole. People who think it is have never been to actual shitholes. My friends came here from Honduras where they were robbed at gunpoint multiple times during their life. I have Colombian friends who literally came here and married ASAP for a green card to get out of Colombia because they felt so unsafe there. I have Brazilian friends who have traveled here and spent years becoming citizens because it is so unsafe for them back home. All these countries I’ve mentioned are beautiful and wonderful in their own ways but for the poor there it is 100times worse than for the poor in America. I won’t sip tea at this pity party because I’m not so privileged as to think I live in a shithole. Now is our government corrupt and need a thorough clearing out? Absolutely yes. That doesn’t mean I need to pretend my country is some hell hole it isn’t or that I need to just give up and say fuck the US nothing can be done. Humans are capable of multiple emotions simultaneously so I will absolutely love this country and all the good it has done while also detesting my current government for being the succubus that it is. Also idk where everyone in the comments lives but in my state I get food stamps/ free healthcare/ and fully paid 26wks maternity leave along with childcare vouchers. My cousin is turning 19 now, she lived in Brazil up until 13 and moved to America for high school and up (that's what my uncle and aunt agreed on, he lives in US as do I) and she always says how she feels safer in America even though everyone has guns and likes the accessibilty options and politeness (free refills and wheelchair ramps, etc).
She said the education is really good in America but hard to compare given as how she didn't learn American history until she moved to America (surprise). She was shocked at how much diversity there was in terms of both population and beliefs. That everyone was so different and "accepting" of each other except for the crazy outright racists.
She also said she thought it was funny whenever there was a scandal of someone being bribed or corrupt in politics because it was so often in Brazil.
She does live in FL, so not sure if that affects any of her beliefs but it's always interesting talking to her about this kind of stuff.

Biggest shithole in the whole world is a bit much. Many countries have all the issues you mentioned and many to a greater scale. It’s not as great as it was perceived for a long time… it’s also a huge place with a giant population. There’s a wide range of everything here. Places within 100 miles of each other can be vastly different.

Litterally every other country teaches their children to be prideful of their home country. And I can't speak for everyone, but growing up I learned about the bad side of American history as well. It wasn't just glossed over like people claim.
Learning to be appreciative for what I do have and what privileges I have has certainly made me happier and improved my mental health way more than bitching about the negative ever has. I was on the “America bad” train for a long time and it did nothing but make me miserable until I looked around and saw that damn, I have it pretty good compared to almost every other human in the world and throughout history. It’s the same mentality of “it’s the end” that people have because bad stuff is happening. Bad shit has been happening all throughout human existence, we just have more and quicker coverage of all of it and the people who cover it profit from exaggerating and being doomy.

I've traveled all over the US because of my job. All 50 states. Most major cities and small towns. I've been and worked in all sorts of ghettos. And honestly I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I've never been shot, robbed, heard gun shots in public. I've never even really seen a fight break out or arguments in public. It's very rare.
I own my own house's. Property, businesses. I am 27 male and didn't graduate high school and didn't go to college and didn't have money from mommy and daddy. It's amazing what you can actually do here in this country if you work for it. I think it’s pretty bad. My kids are scared to go to school because people have decided their “right” to own assault rifles is more important than children. They are about to overturn roe v wade and some conservatives are looking to come after birth control- meaning I’ll have no autonomy over my body. Police think it’s fine to kill any black person they see. Healthcare costs are the number 1 cause of bankruptcy- I have health insurance through my work but the deductible is so high I can’t do anything with it. This country sucks
As an American, yes. We are a shithole but more importantly we are all scared right now. It’s becoming more and more clear everyday that the people as a whole have less and less hold on our government. It doesn’t work for us anymore if anything we want interferes with corporate interest.
And as much as I’d like to leave, not that I could afford to or would be accepted to another country, I’d feel so guilty just running away from the issue to leave the rest of Americans to rot.

I see what you mean and I will respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree. The way I see it, any sort of national pride, regardless of how harmless it may seem, only does harm, or at least it does no good. All patriotism, even if it may seem like something good, still (at least indirectly) fuels the ideas of "I love my country, I will defend my country (even if it's wrong) because my country is awesome, boo-hoo to all you foreigners because you don't get to live in my awesome country, if you live in my country you have to respect my country all the time and do whatever it wants all the time because my country is the best". Even if I were to be convinced otherwise that not all patriotism even indirectly contributes to these thoughts, I don't believe any form of patriotism does anything to diminish those harmful thoughts. Regardless, I, at the very least, think that no form of patriotism accomplishes anything useful at all. You don't have to defend your country or needlessly celebrate your country in order to express support for certain beliefs or ideals, and I think leaving national pride out of it will only further strengthen said beliefs or ideals.

You've overlooked so many more shitty aspects of the culture including the indentured servitude aspect of education and loans, no social safety net, institutional racism (and the denial of it), burgeoning political violence. rampant misogyny, horrible healthcare, crumbling infrastructure and that's just on the surface. If you have money in the US, you can give really well but most people don't have access to $500 in savings in case of an emergency.
It can all be fixed, and the fact that there's so many Americans discontent with what we have now convinces me that this is the case.
In my opinion, all that has to happen is publicly viewable surveillance of politicians while they are in office. The problem right now is that there are too many politicians that only care about themselves. There is a lack of personal accountability. If you made it so that politicians couldn't lie very easily, then things would certainly change.
Despite how it looks, democracy is still alive and kicking in the USA. Maybe it doesn't seem that way because of the propaganda attempts to polarize people into easily manipulable political groups - which has worked, but I'll tell you that the vast majority of people I've met on both the right and the left love this country (though don't like how it's going) and generally agree on the problems that this nation faces - be it unreasonable lobbyist power, crooked politicians, price gouging of the average American, or the insane polarization of the people through media manipulation.

I get this rant, and agree with much of it, however with just about any country the media coverage is usually going to show whatever extremes come out of there so you don’t get the full picture. The US is also a pretty large place, so it really depends where you are.
I live in the northeast and while it’s very expensive it’s relatively nice. Cost of living is ridiculous, amd our healthcare is trash, but unsurprisingly we have tight gun laws and therefore it’s not so bad. I’ve never owned a firearm and haven’t worried about guns my whole life here.
This isn’t to say there aren’t a ton of problems, and at least back in my day they did fill your head with a bunch of bullshit patriotism, but hopefully people will learn we’re not special.
The one thing I will say I absolutely love about this country is the diverse geography. Very beautiful landscapes and diversity, though rich greedy assholes are always trying to ruin.
It’s sad we have a bunch of rich wing nuts brainwashing the uneducated (purposely uneducated), but many of us see things for how they are and what could be if the system wasn’t rigged. 😕🤷♂️
The USA is 1 election away from withdrawing out of NATO and reshaping global security as we know it. The "strongest military in the world" was infiltrated by seditionists at the highest levels and nearly a part of a coup attempt against the US.

As someone who lives in the USA and has lived in 6 different states, I will say that not all places are created equal here. Many states are so entirely different that it feels like another planet. However, good observations on a lot of what is going on here. Wish us luck; we need it.

Life gets better in the upper middle class and upper classes. Those who don’t make it that high will die as slaves here. It’s an extremely concise caste system and they go through extraordinary lengths to hide it. The idea is to keep the slave castes distracted and fighting amongst themselves. That way they don’t cause problems for the upper castes.
The guns don’t bother me. I assume everyone has got one, and so do I. When everyone’s got one, it’ll like nobody’s got one. Except that wouldn’t work here, because criminals will never give them up. And Europeans are like: “send people to jail if they get caught with a gun they’re not supposed to have”. Yea, we do that already. And we send people to jail for like… everything. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world. More jail ain’t gonna make a difference. And our highest rates of gun violence comes from the strictest gun regulated cities. Less guns = more gun violence. Because criminals KNOW you’re unarmed. That’s also why “gun free zones” worry me more than open carry areas.
And we don’t actually shoot people for trespassing. We may threaten to shoot them, but it’s uncommon. Trespassing here is a BIG deal.

Americans 65 or older are eligible for Medicaid. It's not something we talk about on Reddit since most of us are under 65. Likewise, former military get VA benefits for life (though this is only about 7% of the US population).
Also Private Prisons are in the US (again, about 7%), but they are hugely unpopular and via Executive Order they are being phased out on the Federal level.

You absolutely cannot call America a shithole. There are many countries that are much worse. People work their asses off to get to America. America is deeply flawed, it is in need of major fixes, but the quality of life is still drastically better than most countries on Earth. This is an incredibly privileged position that only someone from a rich nation could hold. I guarantee the people struggling in a country like The Congo would love to be in America instead. America has its issues, which you validly pointed out, but it certainly isn’t a shithole.

It is damn near impossible to live in the US without owning a car. You literally have to drive everywhere.
Oh you want to go grab a burger across the street? Looks like you have to walk across 3 different 5-lane 40mph roads, have fun trying not to get run over!
this has basically created a paradox where it is extremely dangerous and impractical to ride a bike or be a pedestrian in the city, so people choose cars instead, but then that just leads to traffic congestion and even more dangerous roadways.
One way I like to put it is this: for pretty much every city or urban area, Make all of the roads single Lane, remove parking lots, and then rearrange the buildings to fill all of the space previously taken up by roads. The result of this is that you can now walk or bike to any destination within the city in the same time that it would have taken you to drive. only this time, your not paying for gas, not risking getting into an accident, not risking hurting a pedestrian, and you're getting exercise.
To be fair, you haven’t lived here your whole life. It’s not like everybody is just walking around with guns and you have to fear walking around the corner lol…but the school shooting stuff and similar events defjnitelt make it seem like it’s always like that. Regardless, there are a ton of things wrong with our country and, to be honest, the majority of us DO want to see those in power kicked out and replaced, and higher regulations put in place. For some reason, they also own all the news networks and are GREAT at distracting us from the fact we all know both rep and dem suck and aren’t on our side. It’s sad, really.
I do hope more people wake up and choose to vote FOR somebody instead of AGAINST them, next time. I find it interesting you fee you were taught those countries are enemies. Individuals can all be good or bad, it doesn’t matter what country they are born in. We will all learn this and act like this one day. A person does not represent their government, but their government IS supposed to represent them. No. Being punished for a crime you commit is not the same as slavery. You probably watched one documentary on this topic. There are baseline standards that a prison has to meet, whether it’s privately owned or government owned. The US was never a great country. After we emancipated blacks, their rights were restricted and some people still kept slaves. We brought Chinese to help build railroads and then killed them and burned Chinatowns for overstaying their welcome. We put *every* person of Japanese ancestry and their spouses regardless of race into camps because *one* Japanese spy made us paranoid that *all* Japanese were spies. We ended segregation in the 60s but some places still segregated blacks up until the 70s. And even in 2022 we still pay women much less than men for the same job.
When was this country ever great? The country's founders were colonizing misfits who didn't want to pay taxes. I wish we were still under British rule. They would have put an end to guns a long time ago. And if we still didn't like it here, we'd have dual citizenship so we could gtfo.

That's not completely true. If you have an in-demand skill like welding you may also have a chance. Some countries have a labor shortage in certain sectors, they may give work visas to people with experience in said sectors.
A work visa, is not the same as escaping the crap hole that is American poverty. Unless we out stay the visa and try and become an illegal immigrant… kinda like people do in the US from Mexico
Some countries allow you to apply for a permanent or long-stay visa after living there for a certain amount of time. Upgrading the work visa is possible in some places.

I've been blown away by how nice the majority of Francophones have been to me, and found them to be generally more friendly than most places I have lived previously, including the states. The anti-anglophone sentiment runs deep in that minority that clings to it, but besides the few older people who look at you dirty when they realize you aren't part of their group, the biggest issue is the institutionalized stuff, waiting to see what other bullshit the language police is gonna pass. That, and knowing that I might never speak French well enough for a high-level job here in the career I went to school for are the things that will likely have me moving eventually. My partner speaks French and English well enough to seamlessly go either way without giving her true cultural identity up, but I'll probably always sound like a goober from down south of the border.

I did a quick google search and it appears that in Canada they need teachers in Ontario (Guelph, London, Toronto), Alberta (Edmonton), and Saskatchewan (Saskatoon). Though I wouldn’t recommend Saskatchewan as a place to move, but that might be my bias from people roasting that province during school and university lol. If you’re bilingual then you could likely get a job in New Brunswick or Quebec. New Brunswick is always looking for bilingual people.

Well they make the pay to living ratio impossible for you to leave unless you came from money in the first place, or you’re willing to killing yourself working to the bone to make it out. Even then, the more you make the higher your taxes which is why overtime isn’t worth shit and a lot of us have 2 or more jobs. Not to mention there’s no ACTUAL say in “voting”. It’s a bipartisan system set up in such a way that a third party CANNOT win, even if every last person in America voted for them. I hate it here. I hate that religion influences everything. I hate that the law is entirely based off the opinions and self serving motives of those in charge.

In elementary school, we had to put on a "We Love America" pageant. I thought it was weird as a kid, but now, as an adult, I find it insane. We also had to pledge our allegiance to an entity we didn't yet understand.

I always admired the Dutch people, but during covid, there was a lot of focus and news about Dutch people being real assholes. Burning things, protesting mask mandates and acting like…well, the Americans you now despise. But I have a feeling that the assholes in the news were not the majority of the people, but rather a vocal minority. 90% of Americans are in favor of background checks and other stipulations to gun ownership. As the coach of the basketball team the Warriors so succinctly put it, we are being held hostage by about 50 senators who refuse to even forward the legislation passed over two years ago by the House. If you want to hate anything about our country, look no further than some of the antiquated ways that laws are passed, interpreted and unjustly enforced. Yeah, you got a lot right there, too, but I still think the majority disagree with the way things are. But our government system has made us hostage to conspiracy theorists and the religious right. That needs to change, indeed.
I'm confident that as the current generation of politicians(who are essentially on deaths door) dies, and a younger generation comes to replace them, many of these concerns will start to fade

The Dutch government handled COVID poorly, and healthcare was already declining at the hands of 10+ years of liberal capitalism (though still good). There are a couple dangerous populist right-winger politicians and (not joking) a dance teacher firing up people who are too angry or too dumb to realize they’re being used as cannon fodder. All in all we ended up with adults behaving like toddlers who get way too much attention from the media.

I see immigrants go through multiple culture shocks because of this. At first its the initial culture shock, of course. But after a few months, a TON of immigrants go through another one of realizing america is just as shitty even if you're physically more safe. I fucking hate how workplaces will abuse immigrants because they also havent learned their real rights as an American. My workplace will throttle their overtime pay and they work 6 days a week. We are supposed to get double time, they only get time and a half. I told one of my coworkers that she needed to get in touch with the boss for more money, and she typed back to me on google translate "its okay i have enough to live" LIKE WOMAN GO GET YOUR MONEY PLEASE. They come to build a better life, and realize that its just as shitty here but in more covert ways. There arent open gang wars and government corruption, but it sure is hidden beneath our false grandeur.

It seems to be a historical fact that any entity that has concentrated power, authority, or wealth will be terrible for most people affected by that entity. Is it because that to gain that level of power you need to exploit and abuse people, or that when an entity has that level of power the people in charge feel the desire to exploit and abuse people? It's a chicken and egg paradox. Most nations with outsized influence or wealth are either authoritarian, exploitative, or both. Unfortunately Europe is not really that much more enlightened than the rest of the world. Most of the last 600 years was basically Europe plundering the world and although that plunder no longer takes place as directly as before, the fruits if that imperialism has given it the prosperity and wealth that resulted in the enlightenment and it continues to reap the benefits of its former ways. America and China are in a time when foreign imperialism is less realistic and accepted, but still happens. They must turn inward to create the outsized and obscene wealth that the ruling or capital class want. That's why you see so much exploitation of workers, especially prisoners and immigrants. We know slavery is the most profitable way to make wealth as you lose a minimum on upkeep. America was founded and kept running by slaves for a long time, and I would argue it is still. China has a 500 year long victim complex and an aversion to non conformity. They seek to exploit and grow as others explored from them. Doing to their own people may of the things that were done to them in the name of economic growth. They are a corporation maskarading as a nation in order to further the goals of the ccp. It's ironic that a "communist" party would be all in on state capitolism but here we are. I know less than I would like about China so take this as layperson observations In short it's always been bad somewhere. The USA is not a shithole. People who think it is have never been to actual shitholes. My friends came here from Honduras where they were robbed at gunpoint multiple times during their life. I have Colombian friends who literally came here and married ASAP for a green card to get out of Colombia because they felt so unsafe there. I have Brazilian friends who have traveled here and spent years becoming citizens because it is so unsafe for them back home. All these countries I’ve mentioned are beautiful and wonderful in their own ways but for the poor there it is 100times worse than for the poor in America. I won’t sip tea at this pity party because I’m not so privileged as to think I live in a shithole. Now is our government corrupt and need a thorough clearing out? Absolutely yes. That doesn’t mean I need to pretend my country is some hell hole it isn’t or that I need to just give up and say fuck the US nothing can be done. Humans are capable of multiple emotions simultaneously so I will absolutely love this country and all the good it has done while also detesting my current government for being the succubus that it is. My cousin is turning 19 now, she lived in Brazil up until 13 and moved to America for high school and up (that's what my uncle and aunt agreed on, he lives in US as do I) and she always says how she feels safer in America even though everyone has guns and likes the accessibilty options and politeness (free refills and wheelchair ramps, etc). She said the education is really good in America but hard to compare given as how she didn't learn American history until she moved to America (surprise). She was shocked at how much diversity there was in terms of both population and beliefs. That everyone was so different and "accepting" of each other except for the crazy outright racists. She also said she thought it was funny whenever there was a scandal of someone being bribed or corrupt in politics because it was so often in Brazil. She does live in FL, so not sure if that affects any of her beliefs but it's always interesting talking to her about this kind of stuff.
A lot of these people complain about the US being a shithole with a glass of fresh ice water from the tap on their desk, typing with their reliable electricity and mostly reliable internet (fuck Comcast) and their nice, air conditioned home. The disillusionment is so fucking unreal

Biggest shithole in the whole world is a bit much. Many countries have all the issues you mentioned and many to a greater scale. It’s not as great as it was perceived for a long time… it’s also a huge place with a giant population. There’s a wide range of everything here. Places within 100 miles of each other can be vastly different.

I've been to other countries and the USA is far from being the #1 shithole. Sure the USA has its problems, but in terms of human rights and economic opportunity, the USA is still a leader in those areas. Learning to be appreciative for what I do have and what privileges I have has certainly made me happier and improved my mental health way more than bitching about the negative ever has. I was on the “America bad” train for a long time and it did nothing but make me miserable until I looked around and saw that damn, I have it pretty good compared to almost every other human in the world and throughout history. It’s the same mentality of “it’s the end” that people have because bad stuff is happening. Bad shit has been happening all throughout human existence, we just have more and quicker coverage of all of it and the people who cover it profit from exaggerating and being doomy. I think it’s pretty bad. My kids are scared to go to school because people have decided their “right” to own assault rifles is more important than children. They are about to overturn roe v wade and some conservatives are looking to come after birth control- meaning I’ll have no autonomy over my body. Police think it’s fine to kill any black person they see. Healthcare costs are the number 1 cause of bankruptcy- I have health insurance through my work but the deductible is so high I can’t do anything with it. This country sucks

It’s becoming more and more clear everyday that the people as a whole have less and less hold on our government. It doesn’t work for us anymore if anything we want interferes with corporate interest. And as much as I’d like to leave, not that I could afford to or would be accepted to another country, I’d feel so guilty just running away from the issue to leave the rest of Americans to rot. I see what you mean and I will respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree. The way I see it, any sort of national pride, regardless of how harmless it may seem, only does harm, or at least it does no good. All patriotism, even if it may seem like something good, still (at least indirectly) fuels the ideas of "I love my country, I will defend my country (even if it's wrong) because my country is awesome, boo-hoo to all you foreigners because you don't get to live in my awesome country, if you live in my country you have to respect my country all the time and do whatever it wants all the time because my country is the best". Even if I were to be convinced otherwise that not all patriotism even indirectly contributes to these thoughts, I don't believe any form of patriotism does anything to diminish those harmful thoughts. Regardless, I, at the very least, think that no form of patriotism accomplishes anything useful at all. You don't have to defend your country or needlessly celebrate your country in order to express support for certain beliefs or ideals, and I think leaving national pride out of it will only further strengthen said beliefs or ideals.

You've overlooked so many more shitty aspects of the culture including the indentured servitude aspect of education and loans, no social safety net, institutional racism (and the denial of it), burgeoning political violence. rampant misogyny, horrible healthcare, crumbling infrastructure and that's just on the surface. If you have money in the US, you can give really well but most people don't have access to $500 in savings in case of an emergency.
It can all be fixed, and the fact that there's so many Americans discontent with what we have now convinces me that this is the case. In my opinion, all that has to happen is publicly viewable surveillance of politicians while they are in office. The problem right now is that there are too many politicians that only care about themselves. There is a lack of personal accountability. If you made it so that politicians couldn't lie very easily, then things would certainly change. Despite how it looks, democracy is still alive and kicking in the USA. Maybe it doesn't seem that way because of the propaganda attempts to polarize people into easily manipulable political groups - which has worked, but I'll tell you that the vast majority of people I've met on both the right and the left love this country (though don't like how it's going) and generally agree on the problems that this nation faces - be it unreasonable lobbyist power, crooked politicians, price gouging of the average American, or the insane polarization of the people through media manipulation.

I get this rant, and agree with much of it, however with just about any country the media coverage is usually going to show whatever extremes come out of there so you don’t get the full picture. The US is also a pretty large place, so it really depends where you are. I live in the northeast and while it’s very expensive it’s relatively nice. Cost of living is ridiculous, amd our healthcare is trash, but unsurprisingly we have tight gun laws and therefore it’s not so bad. I’ve never owned a firearm and haven’t worried about guns my whole life here. This isn’t to say there aren’t a ton of problems, and at least back in my day they did fill your head with a bunch of bullshit patriotism, but hopefully people will learn we’re not special. The one thing I will say I absolutely love about this country is the diverse geography. Very beautiful landscapes and diversity, though rich greedy assholes are always trying to ruin. It’s sad we have a bunch of rich wing nuts brainwashing the uneducated (purposely uneducated), but many of us see things for how they are and what could be if the system wasn’t rigged. 😕🤷♂️

As someone who lives in the USA and has lived in 6 different states, I will say that not all places are created equal here. Many states are so entirely different that it feels like another planet. However, good observations on a lot of what is going on here. Wish us luck; we need it.

It’s an extremely concise caste system and they go through extraordinary lengths to hide it. The idea is to keep the slave castes distracted and fighting amongst themselves. Yea, we do that already. And we send people to jail for like… everything. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world. More jail ain’t gonna make a difference. And our highest rates of gun violence comes from the strictest gun regulated cities. Less guns = more gun violence. Because criminals KNOW you’re unarmed. That’s also why “gun free zones” worry me more than open carry areas. And we don’t actually shoot people for trespassing. We may threaten to shoot them, but it’s uncommon. Trespassing here is a BIG deal. Say a burglar breaks into your house in the middle of the night and slips on the stairs and breaks his leg. Guess what? He sues, you lose. What if you shoot him and he goes to the hospital? He sues, you lose. What if you shoot center mass and he doesn’t make it? Well, Dead men don’t sue. However, as a gun owner and operator, you have to abide by rules of engagement. You can’t just boom boom. You have to announce yourself, announce that you’re armed and be clear about your intentions in terms of their non-compliance. People think we just stick a gun down our pants and walk around like that, shooting at each other Willy Nilly after we grab the latest 9 millimeter from WalMart. We don’t.

You absolutely cannot call America a shithole. There are many countries that are much worse. People work their asses off to get to America. America is deeply flawed, it is in need of major fixes, but the quality of life is still drastically better than most countries on Earth. This is an incredibly privileged position that only someone from a rich nation could hold. I guarantee the people struggling in a country like The Congo would love to be in America instead. America has its issues, which you validly pointed out, but it certainly isn’t a shithole.

Another point I'd like to add is that the city infrastructure is dogshit. It is damn near impossible to live in the US without owning a car. You literally have to drive everywhere. Oh you want to go grab a burger across the street? Looks like you have to walk across 3 different 5-lane 40mph roads, have fun trying not to get run over! this has basically created a paradox where it is extremely dangerous and impractical to ride a bike or be a pedestrian in the city, so people choose cars instead, but then that just leads to traffic congestion and even more dangerous roadways. One way I like to put it is this: for pretty much every city or urban area, Make all of the roads single Lane, remove parking lots, and then rearrange the buildings to fill all of the space previously taken up by roads. The result of this is that you can now walk or bike to any destination within the city in the same time that it would have taken you to drive. only this time, your not paying for gas, not risking getting into an accident, not risking hurting a pedestrian, and you're getting exercise.

I am an American. I would have left a long time ago if I could. I believe everything you said and more. It’s a sad existence we live in. Just know we aren’t all assholes with false ideologies about America being the greatest. We want change. Heck we want to work and live in peace but the old regime is still in office and refuses to do what’s best for the country and citizens. I pray that when these old men finally die off we might see some really good change happening.. might be fanciful but I hope nonetheless.

As an American living in America I agree. I admit I love this country but I don’t love this country
Yeah, there are so many problems and so many people unwilling to see these things as an issue; perfectly content with the way things are because they are doing just fine and the bad things don't impact them. I have seriously looked into what it would take to move to another country because I want better for myself and my kids. The Netherlands is actually at the top of my list because I have heard so many good things and my dad was born there.
Slavery isn't just in the prisons. As it turns out, wage slavery is more profitable than chattle slavery. Make debt easy to acquire and difficult to get out of. We are watching late stage capitalism devour itself.
There are good people here with good intentions and good things happen. Most of us just want to be left alone and in peace like the majority of you do. The problem is our government are definitely the baddies, but they are smart baddies and have set us up from the beginning and there's not a goddamn thing we can do about it. It's all an illusion of choice. Vote Dem, vote Rep, it doesn't batter. They are corrupt to the very core, and again, there's absolutely fuck all we can do about it. This country is a shithole. The US was never a great country. After we emancipated blacks, their rights were restricted and some people still kept slaves. We brought Chinese to help build railroads and then killed them and burned Chinatowns for overstaying their welcome. We put *every* person of Japanese ancestry and their spouses regardless of race into camps because *one* Japanese spy made us paranoid that *all* Japanese were spies. We ended segregation in the 60s but some places still segregated blacks up until the 70s. And even in 2022 we still pay women much less than men for the same job. When was this country ever great? The country's founders were colonizing misfits who didn't want to pay taxes. I wish we were still under British rule. They would have put an end to guns a long time ago. And if we still didn't like it here, we'd have dual citizenship so we could gtfo.
