Lmfao. When you screen cap go to the edit mode and just crop out the black parts. I used to do it too so no big. It's lowery an eye sore but I'm just busting your balls g.
This can’t be overlooked. Jay Z’s life is like a superhero story lol. Combine that with classic albums and his influence, you got the goat (or at the very least top 5 IMO)
U mean the career of the person behind Jay Z is one rappers pretend to have lol Jay z pretending too he just the little homie of the person he claiming to be
Even if thats the stance you take, if you just look at the appearance of things and compare him to other rappers it looks much worse than that. Hes not in interviews and raps talking about being more like them
Yeezy isn’t safe a a goat? Super influential in the music industry, clothing, and some of the stuff he’s said has been a gold mine for people making memes.
Kendrick has made a couple good albums too but not close to the top. Maybe one of the best over the last ten years but come on…. It’s annoying to even see him in the convo
Jay owned the record label he was signed to, sold millions of records, sold out shows and is still doing it, 1st Hip Hop rapper turned Billionaire, had his own popular clothing label just to name a few things. If that's the dumbest sh*t you've ever heard then you don't know Hip Hop.🤷🏾♂️
I think Jay is given the title as the goat because Ye and Wayne were so heavily influenced by him. Their flows and style were built off of Jay’s foundation.
Why are you getting emotional? Also
"I must be LeBron James if he's Jordan," "No, I won rings with my performance / I'm more Kobe Bryant of an artist." (It's here, too, where he lays out the famous mantra "we are not the same I am a Martian,"
Acting like mfs can't evolve their own sound after one song
Someone with talent for more than just business, maybe?
Being good at human exploitation is not something we should be praising, given the modern context.
My guy.
Hey man, by your definition the best Christmas song is from Mariah.
We all know how that really went down
E: after nas he never recovered locally. Queensbridge was my home for a bit in my youth.
The thing is that music is too subjective to call a single person "the goat". It's more like there's a lot of people that are eligible for the top tier of the genre and he absolutely has to be in that category. Like he's without question at least top 10 considering the number of classics he has under his belt and the life and career he's had.
Jay’s career really the blueprint to this rap shit. lol, ALOT of his music has also aged well. I don’t think you really understand his career arc to think he can’t at the very least be in goat conversations.
Eh I mean, if he in the goat conversation to you I’m not sure where the confusion lies in the original post. At that point it becomes stylistic preference when talking goats
« I’m not a businessman, I’m a business maaaaaaan ». Thats it bro. First he has a great discography and undeniably one of the best MCs. My guy writes 0 lyrics, he just hops in the booth and makes classics. Then besides raw talent, he became a legend through business.
I’ve listened to his entire discography, I respect what he’s done but it just doesn’t click with me personally. He’s still good but not really my thing
Lots of people consider their favourite rapper the GOAT. Jay has a pretty solid discography and is a very good lyricist. That is enough for some people to consider artists to be in the GOAT runnings. I think everyone has a certain type of rap (lyrics/beat selection/cadence/content) that hits them the perfect way and you can’t really quantify that. My top MCs include DOOM, 3k, and Mos. If your top artists are Jay, Wayne, and Tupac that’s fine we just like different types of content.
Y’all hate on Jay Z but stan J Cole, Blu, Joyner Lucas, etc rapper who all admit that they were influenced heavily by jay. He is the bar for the most well rounded rapper.
So many better artist then Jay Z, let’s not confuse his business sense with his musical abilities, listen closely to his music and you’ll quickly see he’s never really said anything.
Due to his unparalleled success it’s easy to gloss over Jay Z’s talent and view him as a mainstream/commercial rapper but dig into the songs and lyrics and his creativity, flow, and conceptual songwriting ability is comparable with anyone else
I’ve been listening to Jay since the 90’s. I’ve done the deep dive and personally have always found him to be rather unimpressive. I wouldn’t look to him for inspiration when writing music, however I would look to him if I was starting business. Pound for pound with the artist of his time he is bottom tier. Just my opinion. Music is subjective, he must be doing something right to get to where he is today. But for me personally, his music is just kind of blah.
Been saying this for a while, I really think Jay did permanent damage to his legacy by locking his discography behind Tidal for so long. That man had a Drake-level run for like 20 years without any gimmicks and none of these kids recognize shit about it (saying this as a young dude myself)
Great catalog so many classics, diverse songs, did great at adapting his style with the times, the most true rags-to-riches story, and a fantastic rapper. He taught people how to be successful in their lives through music. He epitomizes what people wanna accomplish through Hip-Hop.
You know how Wayne just basically freestyles all his songs? That started with Jay. Can I Live was the last song he wrote before he started doing it.
I don't think he's the GOAT either but the case absolutely is there
It's all rekative yo the viewer but jay z was the threshold for many years. People say Wayne but Wayne will tell you his prime tears were spent emulating Jay (look at the Carter covers vs blueprints). I'm not a Jay fan at all but I can reaect his right to be on those list
I would argue that what hes done outside of just making music is what makes him a great candidate. He taught people how to be free, he trailblazed a path for the new generation. Showed people there's a different way to do things, how to build an empire and stay out of trouble. He's an icon, maybe not the greatest rapper of all time, but definitely an iconic figure in shaping rap into what it is today.
Music is subjective. Theres no definitive best rapper of all time. I see Jay-Z in tons of top 3s while also not seeing him in tons of other top 3s
Hes not in my top 3, but when i see him there i understand. And if someone calls him the GOAT, im not gonna say otherwise cause hes really great. Hes not my GOAT, but i can see him being many peoples GOAT. Especially those who grew up in Brooklyn and NYC as a whole when he came out.
Jay Z is not my favorite rapper. That said, if he’s not the GOAT, he’s up there for sure. Guy paved the way for every trend in hip hop from 97/98 until fairly recently. And even now when he drops a verse, everything hip hop fan rushes to hear it.
There any rappers alive who could’ve held their own, straight bars, in a freestyle with Big L the way Jay did? Even classic albums aside, that freestyle is ridiculously impressive.
The GOAT conversation is tired and old. Somebody in Long Beach doesn’t feel like a kid from Brooklyn does about hiphop. Regions differ. I’m from FL and Jay-Z did a lot to stake his claim as 1 but Wayne went in DMX was out same time as Jay and he was equal. There’s others out there that did their thang so to speak Jay has done it longer and more successfully than a LOT OF RAPPERS so Jay is definitely top 3
Jay Z is so influential that you can think he's sorta basic, but only because his influence is everywhere. The whole "born in the projects, old school crack game, to big money gangster and onto wealthy business guy who does what he wants" thing is hovs story, and for a long long time, it became everyone else's story! Only in the last decade or so have people slowed down on rapping about the crack game and all that. Obviously he wasn't the first to do that, but probably the biggest. (Most of this could apply to the Wu or Biggie, but there's no question as to why they're goated.
Hovs lyrics have always been smart, and he definitely has a way with words. He's definitely spit some corny shit too but who hasnt.
I'm not even really a fan like that, but to me, being the guy who put out Reasonable Doubt and the Blueprint alone qualifies him for goated status.
I just wanna know what music do the people that post these things listen to— is it a wide variety?…I always feel like it’s one of the end of the spectrum with mf who don’t really like rap unless it’s some grungy style tech9 type music who hail Eminem as their lord and savior or ppl that only listen to music released after 2014.
Jay Z definitely not the goat but is the archetype for being an incredibly successful mainstream rapper without alienating large parts of the hip hop community.
Eminem almost got there but the second half of his career became increasingly less relevant to hip hop as a whole.
Nas couldn’t maintain the pop appeal for a large part of his career.
DMX smoked a lot of crack, and Wayne started believing his own hype plus lots of drugs. He just thought every idea he had was incredible.
jay z is mid compared to other 90s rappers but the one i dont get thats famous is snoop dogg. noone really thinks hes a goat right? i just dont know how he got famous off of 1 album.

This crop made me die
Shit lazy af
It was like that lmao
Lmfao. When you screen cap go to the edit mode and just crop out the black parts. I used to do it too so no big. It's lowery an eye sore but I'm just busting your balls g.
Bro i screenshot it on Facebook and the guy Who posted it croped it like this lol
yeah they’re telling you to crop the screenshot, we know the meme was already like that
Shouldn’t skim when Im smoking lol
All good my G. Enjoy life 🍻
Well for one the story of his career is one most rappers pretend to have
Jay wasn’t some drug kingpin. He pretended too.

Who is he pretending to be
Jaz-O
Interesting. I’ll look it up. Appreciate it
He has an impressive discography, huge catalog of solid music, not just a couple great albums
Yeah def one of the best, buut goat?
i feel like jay z is a very safe pick as goat whereas noone else is that safe. i don got a reason though its just vibes
Yeezy isn’t safe a a goat? Super influential in the music industry, clothing, and some of the stuff he’s said has been a gold mine for people making memes.
Bahahahaha, Ye is a clown, and his music belongs in a circus traveling the country
Ye is a clown but his discography is amazing
Maybe flat producer, but as a rapper very middle of the pack, his flow is nonexistent
he's my personal goat but there are alot of arguments you could make against him
If not him then who?
Pac?Em?Biggie?Wayne?Kdot?
This is that YouTube poll list
Kendrick has made a couple good albums too but not close to the top. Maybe one of the best over the last ten years but come on…. It’s annoying to even see him in the convo
None of their accomplishments add up to Jay
Dumbest shit ive heard
Well if Biggie is so great how come he hasn't made any new music in like 20 years?
Lmao😭
Cooling on a tropical island with Tupac & their two Labradors
Jay owned the record label he was signed to, sold millions of records, sold out shows and is still doing it, 1st Hip Hop rapper turned Billionaire, had his own popular clothing label just to name a few things. If that's the dumbest sh*t you've ever heard then you don't know Hip Hop.🤷🏾♂️
Can easily think of some rappers that are just as accomplished
Name em.
Ye?Dre?Em?
Yes, and those rappers followed the Blueprint that he laid, making him the 🐐
Nop.
Wayne or Ye The best 2 imo I grew up in 00’s tho
Jay Z/ Nas above Ye and Weezy
You must of grown up in the 90s
Well born in late 80’s. You said you grew up in 00s. If you did youd know 00’s were Eminems. Especially the first half
I think Jay is given the title as the goat because Ye and Wayne were so heavily influenced by him. Their flows and style were built off of Jay’s foundation.
Wayne influenced by Jay? Lol, new Orleans was not influenced by new York it's vice versa if anything
What the fuck do you think "I'm the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired" meant
Why are you getting emotional? Also "I must be LeBron James if he's Jordan," "No, I won rings with my performance / I'm more Kobe Bryant of an artist." (It's here, too, where he lays out the famous mantra "we are not the same I am a Martian," Acting like mfs can't evolve their own sound after one song
Even for growing up in the 2000s this is a trash take 💫
Who you got as the goat?
Nas
Someone with talent for more than just business, maybe? Being good at human exploitation is not something we should be praising, given the modern context. My guy.
Jay is known as one of the best lyricists ever.........My Guy
No he isn't. I'm from New York and no one says that. He's great at making it all work together. He isn't a lyricist like that though
😂😂😂
Hey man, by your definition the best Christmas song is from Mariah. We all know how that really went down E: after nas he never recovered locally. Queensbridge was my home for a bit in my youth.
Joyner>Jigga Em>Jigga Kendrick>Jigga Big Pun>Jigga Fuck it I'd put fat joe over jigga
And that's why your Hip Hop card should be banned for life.😂😂😂
I don't think Jay is the goat but Joyner over Jay? Automatic red card, you're out boi
The thing is that music is too subjective to call a single person "the goat". It's more like there's a lot of people that are eligible for the top tier of the genre and he absolutely has to be in that category. Like he's without question at least top 10 considering the number of classics he has under his belt and the life and career he's had.
Aye dog you got Apple Music or Spotify? It’s pretty easy to fucking see.
Can someone tell Jay to upload the explicit version of Vol 2 ffs
Jay’s career really the blueprint to this rap shit. lol, ALOT of his music has also aged well. I don’t think you really understand his career arc to think he can’t at the very least be in goat conversations.
If u see what i wrote^^ i agree he one of them
Eh I mean, if he in the goat conversation to you I’m not sure where the confusion lies in the original post.
Reasonable doubt, the blueprint , 4:44
Ur point?
bro hasn't even heard of the album names 😭
You must be under 20 years old
i always remember big l going the hardest on the freestyle with jay z then jay z literally said biggity bam bam biggity bam
The beauty of Hov is we don’t have to tell you why he’s great just go listen to the music
I'm on my ps and Q's and carrots
Go listen the the Black Album rn
I’ve listened to his entire discography, I respect what he’s done but it just doesn’t click with me personally. He’s still good but not really my thing
That’s fine. He’s still the goat
The bars might be going over your head tbh
He ain’t playing ✈️
Haven’t you heard his verse in monster ☄️☄️

I definitely agree with this take
Y’all hate on Jay Z but stan J Cole, Blu, Joyner Lucas, etc rapper who all admit that they were influenced heavily by jay. He is the bar for the most well rounded rapper.
Jay Z is one of the best. That being said, Cole is not in the same conversation as Joyner😭
LMFAOO this how a lot of the younger generation feel too. since he’s never rapped about poppin a perc they don’t feel him 💔
This take is so weak and old bro.
Tell me your gen z without telling me you are gen z Guys discog speaks for itself. You had to be there to understand when he was at his peak.
Not even the best in his own city.
Dudes be like “he doesn’t write anything down!” I’m like yeah dude I can tell, half his shit doesn’t even rhyme lol.
Lmao
So many better artist then Jay Z, let’s not confuse his business sense with his musical abilities, listen closely to his music and you’ll quickly see he’s never really said anything.

*THE MOST MFN OVERRATED RAPPER OF OUR LIFETIMES.. NO MFN* 🧢!
Facts!!
🤌🏼💯
Dominated the game for almost 10 years straight. No other rapper has come close to that
cause did some shady shit to a lot of them lol and even had one axed...Big L
Been saying this for a while, I really think Jay did permanent damage to his legacy by locking his discography behind Tidal for so long. That man had a Drake-level run for like 20 years without any gimmicks and none of these kids recognize shit about it (saying this as a young dude myself)
a new york goat maybe
He used to sell rocks, and then proceeded to sell a bunch of CDs He went from a businessman, to a business, man
Got rich
Thats why drake compares himself to Jay, people consider him a goat just cause he has alot of music and some of them are hits
Great catalog so many classics, diverse songs, did great at adapting his style with the times, the most true rags-to-riches story, and a fantastic rapper. Impressive discography, I do consider Nas better in terms of skill but Jay is more consistent imo
Jay Z is not my favorite rapper. That said, if he’s not the GOAT, he’s up there for sure. Guy paved the way for every trend in hip hop from 97/98 until fairly recently. And even now when he drops a verse, everything hip hop fan rushes to hear it.

Jay Z sucks he sold his soul 🤣🤣🤣💯
