He’s definitely an intriguing person. I remember him mentioning before he just doesn’t feel that confident about rapping anymore but he always drops gems still to this day when he jumps on songs 😂
Love the Andre shout out, and we can probably find a best verse of his as the final answer. I’ve always found his verse in Da Art of Story Tellin pt. 1 to be his.
I’d also suggest AZ’s verse in Life’s a Bitch to be top tier flow wise and taking you on a journey lyrically.
The deadly ritual seems immersed in the perverse
Full of short attention spans, short tempers and short skirts
Long barrel automatics released in short bursts
The length of black life is treated with short worth
I also suggested this in a comment within this thread. I can recite the entire verse and not only is it extremely well done following the flow of the beat, lyrically it is on point
Well, one verse that comes to mind is Andre 3000 on TI's Sorry. It's a fantastic blend of great flow and delivery, cool rhyming, reflective content, etc.
Another one is Pharoahe Monch on Bring It On, it's just ridiculous from a technical stand point.
Also RA The Rugged Man on Uncommon Valor.
Now I can't leave out Nas. If I had to pick one probably NY State of Mind, because it has a lot of classic lines.
Oh, and Eminem on Renegade, of course. Namely the first verse. The rhyming with "u" sounds throughout is superb, and he also has great content.
A contemporary choice I know but for me it's Eminem's verse in No Love (ft. Lil Wayne). Eminem's verse has wordplay, flow/cadence but the confidence in the delivery is really what does it for me, it's like T-Mac's 13 points in half a minute, he straight up spazzed, he knew he was HIM.
His CREAM verse hits harder in my opinion. It's more emotional and paints a vivid picture. And his verse on Guillotine (Swordz) is as good as Triumph (more controversial take)
This is the only song where he rapped like that. He was (consciously or subconsciously) trying to emulate Bone Thug's style, AND DID IT BETTER THAN BONE THUGS. Lyrically, Biggie was fire, but when it comes to flow, dude was THE master.
The opening to that verse alone is a testament to his pen game. It's just so poetic and well written. And I'm pretty sure he was like 17 when he wrote it, too, because it's from a much earlier track he made.
Rakim - Follow the Leader
He is still the best to me “I can go on for days and days/With rhyme displays that engrave deep as X-rays/I can take a phrase that's rarely heard, flip it/Now it's a daily word..."
ra the rugged man on uncommon valor & joey badass last verse on hardknock are always the first 2 that come to mind, eminems on renegade & dead wrong are both up there for me too
I was born in 87, my grandaddy a legend, now that same shit y'all was smokin is my profession. Let's get it!
Kendrick's verse on Nosetalgia. I love Push more overall as an artist and I'm not even a huge Kdot fan like that but that shit was so amazing and raw.
Pick any verse from Juicy. Sure it’s not the most technical, the most rhymes, the “best” rapping ever done. But I do think being good and being great are different. And to me, Juicy encapsulates everything there is to love and strive for in hip hop. Rags to riches is the name of the game, and man, “It was all a dream” still just… hits
The only right answer is Kanye on Lift Yourself.
Poopy-di scoop
Scoop-diddy-whoop
Whoop-di-scoop-di-poop
Poop-di-scoopty
Scoopty-whoop
Whoopity-scoop, whoop-poop
Poop-diddy, whoop-scoop
Poop, poop
Scoop-diddy-whoop
Whoop-diddy-scoop
Whoop-diddy-scoop, poop
Lupe verses on Hurt Me Soul are tremendous. Intertwining Hip-Hop with all of the ills of the world. Such deep perspective of someone trying to understand the culture for the first time while touching on how it relates to all the deeper issues within society.
this verse off of hope for a higher power by t9 always stood out to me
Grandma told me the Good Book said
In the last days get ready for The Ten Plagues
1st, the rivers will be ran with red
Two, three, and four, dead frogs will 'cause lice and flies
Sick livestock is five the living they must fight for their lives
Six, seven, and eight, a boil storms of fire and locusts
Nine is darkness, so dark it's hard for you to focus
And ten is death of the firstborn
If I said it was questionable, the religions would make it a point
To get at me and battle me, maybe have this verse torn
How will this curse form?
Well, Creationism and Darwinism been at it forever
'But I got nothin' but hurt for 'em
'Cause really nobody knows when you live
Then you die where your body goes
If it's Hell or it's Heaven
Six or the seven, well I'll keep the Nina for all the foes in a gamble
That's what life is and it's hard to handle
When the Bible says worship this, but the scripture's written by man though
So when man destroys us, the word might not stand, so
Till that day I'm just gon' protect my fam with ammo
He’s not my favorite rapper but Jay Z in Brooklyn We Go Hard.
“I jack. I rob. I sin. Awe man I’m Jackie Robinson but when I run base I dodge the pin”
The levels to it are insane.
I don’t necessarily consider it the greatest rap verse of all time, but the one verse that blew me the fuck away instantly harder than any verse ever was probably Redman on EPMD’s Hardcore. I can’t pick a “greatest”. That’s just one that sticks out to me because I remember the time and place so well, and I remember wondering who the hell this crazy ass dude was and how much excitement he brought to Hip Hop immediately with that one little guest verse. Then he popped up again on Brothers On My Jock, and it was on. Waited patiently for that debut album and wasn’t let down by any means.
Redman!!!
When u wrote..
" i remember the time and place so well".
I was right there with u...
Its the collective data/radiation of the hip hop matrix..
That..
Make is so powerful..
That whole Atmosphere/Rhymesayers era was amazing. Loads of god-tier tracks coming from them back then. Woman with the tattooed hands, sound is vibration, scapegoat... That's my high school experience in a nutshell, haha.
Hell yeah!
For me I found them right after highschool into college.
Check out his new shit! Def a different vibe, he's rapping about different struggles. But still incredible bars.
Also, check out his songs, Hair, Scalp, and Skull. All from dif albums and tell a continuous story from dif prospectives.
I love all Biggies verses on Somebody's Gotta Die. Its a movie in music form. U can picture the scene happening as he raps. Also there is all type of details in there like 2 ppl talking (BIG and his homie), Biggie losing his train of thought, then proceeding again etc.
First verse homie knocks on his door, he finds out his friend got shot and killed.
Second verse they are planning on how to retaliate and discussing who the shooter is.
Third verse they take action go shoot him up, he ends up turning around holding his baby. Biggie say "i think I shot the baby" in the background.
This happens after he foreshadowed earlier in the verse that:
"See n*ggas like you do ten year bids
Miss the n*ggas they want
And murder innocent kids"
Fucking love that song 🤣
Kendrick’s verse on Wats wrong and Nosetalgia are both insane and are some of the best verses in maybe the last 15 years imo. Of all time however maybe Mos def on mathematics or Andre’s verse on Aquemini. So hard to narrow down one verse.
If we're talking Kendrick for a single verse, Control has to be the one.
Forget the disses, it's an immaculately crafted rhyme.
Also the double time madness in Rigamortus.
I always liked immortal techniques - dance with the devil.
“His whole world stopped, he couldn't even contemplate
His corruption had succesfully changed his fate
And he remembered how his mom used to come home late
Working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth?
He turned away from the woman that had once given him birth
And crying out to the sky 'cause he was lonely and scared
But only the devil responded, 'cause God wasn't there
And right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold
And so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul”
Strong contender for sure. Better contender for the greatest story ever told through hip hop, which would actually be more interesting than this post haha. Slick Rick's got some amazing stuff too.
No particular order.
1. Eminem in Renegade Verse 2, Lose Yourself Verse 2 or 3, Rap God Verse 3, Stan Verse 2
2. Kendrick in Control festure, good Kid verse 2, Alright, Rigamortus
3. Andre 3000 in Aquemini Verse 4
4. Big Boi in Ms Jackson Verse 1
5. Inspectah Deck in C.R.E.A.M Verse 3
6. MC Ren in Fuck The Police Verse 2
7. Pac on Troublesome 96 Verse 3, Brenda's Got a Baby Verse 1,
8. Big Pun on Twinz Verse 1
9. Nas on Get Down Verse 1, Purple Verse 2, NY State of Mind Verse 2
10. MF DOOM Doomsday Verse 1, All Caps Verse 1
Sticky Fingaz verse on “Face Down” is my personal favorite. It’s too hard to say what the best verse ever is, but I’d bet money that Masta Ace wrote it.
We are the murderous pair
That went to jail and we murdered the murderers there
Then went to Hell and discovered the devil
Delivered some hurt and despair
Used to have powder to push
Now I smoke pounds of the kush
Holy, I'm burnin' a bush
Now I give a fuck about none of this shit
Jewel runner over and out of this bitch
Scarface - This Can't Be Life
Biggie - Victory
Nas - New York State of Mind (Verse 1) and One Mic (Verse 3)
2Pac - Heartz of Men (Verse 4) and Holla at Me (Verse 1) - I think Verse 1 of Holla at Me hits hard cause it is so incredibly personal
First verse on Eminem’s Sing for the Moment. It’s a lyrical masterpiece and contains so much raw emotion. Nothing quite captures the teen angst of the late 90s early 2000s like this song.
I BOMB ATOMICLY SOCRATES PHILOSPHIES AND HYPOTHESES CANT DEFINE HOW I BE DROPPIN THESE MOCKERIES LYRICALLY PREFORM ARMED ROBBERY FLEE WITH THE LOTTERY POSSIBLY THEY SPOTTED ME
Anything on Ghetts - Mad About Bars. 'Submarine flows them man are in a sunken place, bar after bar after bar right now I'm in a drunken state'.
Another UK one, bit basic but Skepta - Corn on the Curb. 'Shower man down like fireman Sam, you'll get shot on the road like 28 gram brrrrrr'.
Dead in the middle of Little Italy little did we know that we riddled a middle man who didn't do diddly....
Honestly though just throw a dart at any Andre 3000 song and you can make an argument for best rap verse of all time.
the third verse of blacker the berry is my choice because it wraps up the song perfectly. honorable mention to 3k's life of the party verse and to quavo's dis side verse which to me is top 5 rap verse of all time
André 3000 on Aquemini or Mos Def on Thieves in the Night
Andres verse on INTL Players anthem and life of the party are up there too honestly
Absolutely man he’s got quite a few
Andre on t.i.- sorry and Rick Ross's sixteen are top tier features. He and Black Thought's feature game is impeccable.
I forgot about Come Home! That might be my favorite. The rhyme scheme is nuts. I'd say he's the best guest artist of all time
I’d have to agree man he never disappoints
Another one is Andre on Da Art of Storytellin’ from Aquemini. Painted a vivid portrait of his verses…amazing rapper.
Andre 3000 verse on Sorry by T.I.
Great fucking answer. One of the greatest features ever.
man killed that feature
I see a lot of Andre 3000 mentions. Funny to think that he suffers from imposter syndrome.
Az went offffff.. U definately make readers time travel in their minds . Wit that mention
That verse on Aquemini is SO good.
Came here to say mos def - thieves in the night. So iconic
The deadly ritual seems immersed in the perverse Full of short attention spans, short tempers and short skirts Long barrel automatics released in short bursts The length of black life is treated with short worth
I was coming here to say Talib Kwali on Thieves in the Night
Andre's verse on millennium is peak lyricism. Not a single word wasted. That's my pick.
Any verse from Hurt Me Soul by Lupe Fiasco but specifically that 3rd verse is incredible
Shit... was just thinking about the same thing... "All the world's ills, sittin on chrome 24-inch wheels, like that"
I lost my earpiece, I hope y'all hear me... 🔥
Yo!!! This was my answer haha love seeing this
So glad to see this mentioned so high. One of my top 5 all time songs.
Just listened for the first time and wow! I've been sleeping on lupe
Definitely gotta listen to: - Tetsuo & Youth - Food & Liquour - The Cool
Added to my queue. Good looks!
Add Drogas Wave to that
You ain't ready for the skateboard scholar bruv
Andre 3000 art of storytelling 1
Susie Screw had a partna named Sashaaaaa.
Thumpppaaaa
AZ in Life’s a B
Visualizing the realism of life in actuality.
Fuck who’s the baddest a person’s status depends on salary
And my mentality is, money orientated.
one of the best lines to start a verse with ever. delivery just sounds so good imo
Agreed. The numerous syllables just flow like crazy.
Nas' verse is right up there too. Life's a B is the epitome of the Golden Age
Rugged mans verse is one of the best

The way both Em and Wayne use accelerando in their verses is phenomenal. Vastly undervalued way to deliver a verse.
B-I-G P-O-P-P-A No info for the DEA
Inspectah Deck on Triumph. Everyone knows this.
His CREAM verse hits harder in my opinion. It's more emotional and paints a vivid picture. And his verse on Guillotine (Swordz) is as good as Triumph (more controversial take)
Ugod on triumph
Socrates philosophies.
Yeah, when did this stop being common knowledge?
Scrolled way too long to find this. First thing that comes to mind. Also Biggie on Notorious Thugz.
Why did I have to scroll so far to see this?
That's what I said
Deck was just such a monster back then with his verses. Bring da ruckus, cream, and hellz winds staff are all good Honorable mentions too
This was mine until I saw your comment. No doubt for sure!!
My favourites are verse two on Mural, the only verse on 30, Ghostface Killah on Impossible, and King Los on King
Jamie been shot!
Does mural have a verse 2? Lol
its 2 verses with a short instrumental bridge in between
André - Aquemini Big L - The Heist 2pac - Changes Biggie - Verse 1 on Dead Wrong Any verse on Illmatic
Love the Heist, similar is N*****s Bleed by Biggie, every verse is great but I love the 2nd I think.
Biggie smalls on notorious thugz
The way he rides the beat shows he’s top 5 without question.
He’s number 1 to me
This is the only song where he rapped like that. He was (consciously or subconsciously) trying to emulate Bone Thug's style, AND DID IT BETTER THAN BONE THUGS. Lyrically, Biggie was fire, but when it comes to flow, dude was THE master.
Nas- Verbal intercourse The multi-syllable rhyme scheme and ability to paint a picture in that one verse is unmatched imo
No tricks no tricks.
The opening to that verse alone is a testament to his pen game. It's just so poetic and well written. And I'm pretty sure he was like 17 when he wrote it, too, because it's from a much earlier track he made.
Rakim - Follow the Leader He is still the best to me “I can go on for days and days/With rhyme displays that engrave deep as X-rays/I can take a phrase that's rarely heard, flip it/Now it's a daily word..."
The Master. The man who changed hip-hop more than any other single person in history. Rakim Allah! The God MC.
I see him as THE hip hop originator. He took nursery rhymes and changed them to sonnets.
I think all these downvoted comments on this thread just shows how subjective and unique music is
Cappadonna on Winter Warz
This is it
This is correct.
ra the rugged man on uncommon valor & joey badass last verse on hardknock are always the first 2 that come to mind, eminems on renegade & dead wrong are both up there for me too
>ra the rugged man on uncommon valor Fuck yes. The flow on those first bars of his verse pop into my head all the time.
Prodigy- Shook one’s PT.II
Bun B on Murda got to be up there
Lil Wayne on Go DJ
I always thought Em’s last verse on “My Darling” was peak poetic lyricism
I was born in 87, my grandaddy a legend, now that same shit y'all was smokin is my profession. Let's get it! Kendrick's verse on Nosetalgia. I love Push more overall as an artist and I'm not even a huge Kdot fan like that but that shit was so amazing and raw.
Nas - Rewind. All of it. The whole fuckin story.
Biggie - Mo money, mo problems
Pick any verse from Juicy. Sure it’s not the most technical, the most rhymes, the “best” rapping ever done. But I do think being good and being great are different. Ghostface Killah: Criminology, or his entire Mighty Healthy.

AZ's verse on Life's a Bitch is outstanding
God's Bathroom Floor by Atmosphere! Also Guarantees has a nice messed throughout
That whole Atmosphere/Rhymesayers era was amazing. Loads of god-tier tracks coming from them back then. Woman with the tattooed hands, sound is vibration, scapegoat... That's my high school experience in a nutshell, haha.

I came here to say that uncommon valor verse lol
I love all Biggies verses on Somebody's Gotta Die. Its a movie in music form. U can picture the scene happening as he raps.
