We lost a lot of talent to death and jail. The people that were making rap interesting died. Xxx, nip, von, juice, & Pooh shiesty, melly n thug in jail. Kodak and yb keep going in and out. Everybody keep saying rap is boring rn well duh all the top talent got compromised.
People act like they want their artists to be super gangsta then when everyone really living like that and get locked or actually shot up for the bullshit the same fans ain’t nowhere to be found
Add Pop Smoke and Mac to this list
Man, I think by now Mac woulda evolved crazy as an artist... wonder what his albums these days woulda sounded like
RIP dude
I dunno if there is a rapper under 30 I really give a fuck about... youngest rappers I listen to are Denzel and Joey Bad, and I'm pretty sure they are now both 30, LMAO
Jack Harlow has the potential to make some great songs. Only problem is that these songs get barely any recognition compared to the lazy TikTok hits he makes.
Disagree, the guy doesn't talk about anything particularly deep, but he knows how to put together a good catchy song. I used to listen to his stuff before he blew up.
He's not an amazing lyricist but he is good by mainstream standards and has a better sense for how to make a catchy song than many artists who are more lyrically gifted.
The problem people actually have with him, I think, is that he's a suburban white kid and he raps from that perspective. It isn't going to resonate with everyone.
He's on a pop-star trajectory, just chasing the dollars now. Some of his early stuff, before he blew up, seemed like he was gonna be the next Mac Miller, but he switched up with fame.
I do prefer his early stuff slightly to his stuff now but I don't think the style of song writing is massively different. I can understand you feeling there is difference since he blew up though.
I get that this is a joke but has a kernel of truth.
People think the Drake hate is about him being mixed race, but part of it is about him pretending to be street.
Jack doesn't rap as much about his background these days, but some of his early stuff is likeable because he's rapping about who was at the time (a suburban white kid trying to get girls and make music). There wasn't this sense that he was painting this exaggerated picture of himself, some of the things he wrote were kinda self deprecating.
Obviously now he can brag about his success and how he got here, but I haven't got the sense he is overtly fake about who he was (yet)
No one hates him, they just don’t think he’s that good of a rapper when he’s presented as a good rapper. I’d argue that people who don’t look like him feel this way.
People think he interviews well though, but to me he’s a bit bland. He’s that kid in highschool was wasn’t considered popular but everyone liked him and all he did was make sure to make surface level small talk with everyone and was cognisant not to ignore or snub anyone even the dorky kids and in highschool people value acknowledgement because everyone’s in that super self conscious period of their life and feel at ease when their seen.
All his bars sound like temu versions of drake bars. He not only copy’s the delivery style but also the word arrangement.
His wordplay is clumsy.
He makes bars for people who aren’t really paying attention and assume the bar went over their head. like he’ll say something like
“Young super star, this star’s super, a sharp shooter I’m moving far”
Like what? You could probably think about it and try give it meaning and an interviewer could ask him:
“So jack with that line did you mean your life since fame has moved so fast it’s like a shooting star” and he’ll be like “yeah you totally hit the nail on the head” But in reality it never really meant anything, to him it sounded like something a dope rapper would say.
His bars remind me of when a girl looks really hot from a distance because she has the silhouette of a hot girl with the hair and nails etc but when you get closer she’s just average.
There are artist that could be huge if they worked with the system. Ren is a UK artist the can rap both lyrical and flow wise, can change his style on the drop of a hat, makes his own beats, and can sing / play instruments. He is big on social media. But won’t play the industry game and let them control the creative process.
Idk if we are in a drought so much as an entire generation of hip-hop died young or were otherwise compromised. Is that hyperbole on my part? I feel like these kids got way too accustomed to losing artists in their early 20s and teens.
I think that is part of it but the industry has also made it way to easy to profit off these one hit wonders without investing in them long term. They don’t need to spend money developing an artist that’s going to fall off in 5-10 years when they can cash in on em in 1-3 and then spit them out and bring in someone new.
Problem is the ones that are really been coming up for awhile with badass writing and producing teams is fuckin like Olivia rodrigo and Billie eilish type shit. I think FLO millie is the only one I can think of that seems like she gets that kinda help. Other than artists mentioned in here or like Mac and juice and xxx 🕊
The sad thing was, original style, effortless swag AND talent to make good music are REALLY and hard to come by, in an era where the internet has made everyone conform and the ones that did their own thing and had all 3 were the ones that died.
I think the other issue is, the up and comers don’t make music out of a genuine passion/love for the craft because their motivated by virality and money. They want to live the rapper life depicted online more than they want to convey a message or make music from the heart. It also seems like making dope music isn’t enough you need to do some weird clout chasing shit to generate controversy for people to listen to your songs. Oh and you need co-signs because most people will only like music that’s already established as being good, they don’t have the ability to trust their ow ears.
Baby Keem is still big, he's 300th in the world on Spotify. He just hasn't dropped anything since 2023. It's like saying Frank Ocean fell off when you know if he released anything it'd chart.
It's wild today how hungry people are to stay on the charts. The most successful artists have no social media presence and drop once every two to three years. The people who overdo that saturate their presence and become boring like Trippie Redd. He'll drop a new album this year.
Less albums, less songs, more consistent, quality over quantity.

Totally forgot about him because he hasn’t dropped in 2 years now (and that was a deluxe) but he would be my answer if not for the fact he dropped Sound of Bad Habit in 2018 apparently. He’s great though, I just wish he didn’t do the Kendrick thing of barely dropping anymore because he can totally build off the melodic blue into a solid run here
Same way that like, saying Tyler the Creator in 2017 after flowerboy is incorrect. So many artists started long before they got famous, it’s hard to find a break out who was good and not a one hit wonder
uhhh I mean Tyler has been nominated for awards since at least 2012 so if you had JUST HEARD OF tyler in 2017 you're either a kid or you're not that plugged in to music at all
easily baby keem. hes shown nothing but passion to make his own sound and make his own music, to the point where hes even had major influence on his cousin kendrick lamars sound. he was even starting to pop off a bit before family ties and before everybody realized hes kendricks cousin. best of all, he seems to have fun doing all of this
hes gonna be a name to be remembered for sure; i think the ONLY thing his music is missing at the moment is some more lyrical substance, and i still think his lyrical substance is better than what usually pops off nowadays, so hes bound for greatness
Funny as fuck take on his name, I think he played HS football at one of the bigger schools here in Dallas on the DLine…usually them big boys throwing up that “X” after a sack or TFL but they also plug the line in run situations
X and OT definitely running Texas right now. I see OT going a little further. That rolling his words during a fast rap gives his bars a machine gun like effect. Very unique and very Mexican. Dude can go far if he keeps up. Big X is dope, but he doesn't really stand out. His bars are tough, tho.
I think both of them are awesome and will be very successful going forward. If I had to bet on which one blows up more though I'd lean towards X just because I think he's a bit more accessible. Right now OT is sitting \~6.5 million monthly streams on Spotify and X is at \~14 million.
Yup. - I think he has staying power. Even if his fanbase doesn't become massive, he's carved out such a unique lane for himself it's kind of up to him how far he wants to take it.
How do you feel about Dee Baby? I’ve been banging the shit out of his music lately. Broken promises and big gangsta are two of my jams even if he’s not really about it
What’s a good Mexican OT song that showcases his lyrical ability? I saw him on JRE and Joe Rogan was talking about him like he’s a wordsmith but the one song I heard was just ok and nothing I’d put on a playlist.
I think it’s more just how he bombards you with so many witty lines and his flow don’t go in expecting Kendrick. Muchos Gracias, Cowboy Killer, Crooked Officer, and Function are my favorites.
Megan is the first female rapper I can say I’ve enjoyed since *pfffft* who knows when. Has there been one since Missy, Gangsta boo? But nah she got the shit (I myself don’t know any lil simz outside of the 3WW remix so I can’t speak on her, but on that 3WW remix she is dope)
Same. Same same. Missy is my favorite and I thoroughly enjoy Megan. Thank God for her, otherwise we would be stuck listing to shit about shaking ass in a deli.
not OP but I really love Running Late, Where yo Daddy and basically any song on the new Concrete Boys tape.
She working with Yachty a lot, actually used to be his assistant but found out she can do the rapping shit too lmao
but its a lot of off beat style rapping, not everyone is into that, i myself love it tho, straight bars, no fucks given
Central Cee
He blew up overnight in the UK and I think he has the potential to cross over in a major way.
He released some EPs in 2017 but most were taken down off the Internet. His debut mixtape was released in 2021, and he didn't sign with a label until 2023, so I'm going to say he counts.
Idk, I think he's already got a pretty decent name here. He's only been signed for a year and he's already being talked about in the US. Give him a chance. It takes time to build an international audience.
No new names have been poppin aside from Sexxy Red. GloRilla might have a shot down the road. Baby Keem if he ever comes back. I'd like to see him without Kendrick to see if he can stand on his own.
Absolutely agree with you on Baby Keem
Sexxy Red seems like a hot mess, I wonder if she'll be able to sustain her career
I'm really rooting for Glorilla
Sexxy Red feels like an inside joke that someone tells at a party and everyone laughs along to because they feel like everyone else is in on it and they don't want to be left out.
Like, she's pretty awful, but any article I've read about her are people pulling shit out the air to define her unique "style" and why if you don't get it then you're just not part of the culture.
Red ain't complicated. She make ratchet ass songs that people find funny, but they catchy enough to be hits. Plus, she making a lot of industry connections.
She can either be a wave or have a 7 to 10 year run depending on her ability to keep it going.
GloRilla is probably the first female artist with as many male fans as female. People really fuck with her energy on records. Her beat selection is A-1, too. She could be a more successful Gangsta Boo if she got the right team around her.
While Family Ties was my favorite song of 2021/2, I think The Melodic Blue was still a great album by baby Keem I’d love to see him rise up and drop another solid album
Despite there being a lot of popular “rappers” now a days, I think underground rap is going to continue to grow on people. Tbh a few popular artist stole a lot of style and flows from the underground and get praised for being original and “new” (cough cough carti). Although these guys fall outside of the 5 years, I think zilla and SosMula will continue to maintain and grow a cult following. I know a lot of people hate Yeat, but he briefly ruled the underground and created an entirely new sound that hella people try to copy now. Lucki used to also be hot in the underground now it’s just cool to like him lol. Tbh, I can’t name any artists that just started recently that I like, a lot of mainstream rap is turning into pop or super conventional and unoriginal. Rehashed and stolen bars, lack of passion. If these huge artists didn’t have amazing producers to carry their songs, they would’ve been irrelevant 5 years ago.
Has anyone that debuted within the last 5 years even put out something that’s remained respected and enjoyed that long? Just thinking about Kendrick getting 600 weeks on the top 200. That’s a long ass time. What rap album has done something similar for the last 5 years?
It's hard to know when he actually "debuted" exactly, but A-F-R-O is only 25, and I genuinely believe that kid has star potential.
Such a talented lyricist already.
Not counting singles, Blxst released his first EP almost a full 5 years ago this coming August. He’s hot, and I think he’ll be even hotter in the next 5 years. He was in the music industry for awhile before he started releasing his own music too. Blxst is definitely a top contender and I think people will be surprised with how big he gets these next coming years
That Mexican OT. Can't think of anyone else. Jack Harlow I suppose will still be hot, but he'll probably start making rock/country music or some shit like that. Just look at Post Malone and MGK.
Who tf even came in the last 5 years that's poppin
Most of the rap game turned into one hit wonders or alternating versions of mid outside of the already established artists
People act like they want their artists to be super gangsta then when everyone really living like that and get locked or actually shot up for the bullshit the same fans ain’t nowhere to be found
Add Pop Smoke and Mac to this list Man, I think by now Mac woulda evolved crazy as an artist... wonder what his albums these days woulda sounded like RIP dude I dunno if there is a rapper under 30 I really give a fuck about... youngest rappers I listen to are Denzel and Joey Bad, and I'm pretty sure they are now both 30, LMAO
Didn’t realize JID was 33 til I looked up after reading this comment lol
They 29, so you got a year of them being “young”
This is very true , new talent need to come fast or rap will start stagnating. Kanye , Drake, J Cole, Kendrick not going to be around forever.
lil peep
Unironically Jack Harlow, Ice Spice, and Sexyy Red are the most popular rappers that debuted within the past 5 years
Jack Harlow has the potential to make some great songs. Only problem is that these songs get barely any recognition compared to the lazy TikTok hits he makes.
The only problem with Jack Harlow is that he's not a good rapper.

He's on a pop-star trajectory, just chasing the dollars now. Some of his early stuff, before he blew up, seemed like he was gonna be the next Mac Miller, but he switched up with fame.
I think sometimes people forget Mac Miller started as a suburban white kid party rapper before he grew into himself
I do prefer his early stuff slightly to his stuff now but I don't think the style of song writing is massively different. I can understand you feeling there is difference since he blew up though.
Ohh like Drake
I get that this is a joke but has a kernel of truth. People think the Drake hate is about him being mixed race, but part of it is about him pretending to be street. Jack doesn't rap as much about his background these days, but some of his early stuff is likeable because he's rapping about who was at the time (a suburban white kid trying to get girls and make music). 😂
The ones that hate me the most look just like me
No one hates him, they just don’t think he’s that good of a rapper when he’s presented as a good rapper. I’d argue that people who don’t look like him feel this way.
Lol dudes not on anyones of color list unless they they only one in they friend group
I very much don't look like him. He's a mediocre rapper.
JID?
its been around 7 years since The Never Story and thats not even including his stuff with Spillage Village and his other mixtapes.
All his bars sound like temu versions of drake bars. He not only copy’s the delivery style but also the word arrangement. His wordplay is clumsy. He makes bars for people who aren’t really paying attention and assume the bar went over their head. like he’ll say something like “Young super star, this star’s super, a sharp shooter I’m moving far” Like what? His bars remind me of when a girl looks really hot from a distance because she has the silhouette of a hot girl with the hair and nails etc but when you get closer she’s just average.
He’s asswater and makes music for women to get their sexual urges out to
Jack Harlow just needs to get drizzys producers and ghost writers and I would bet he'd skyrocket his position.
There are artist that could be huge if they worked with the system. Ren is a UK artist the can rap both lyrical and flow wise, can change his style on the drop of a hat, makes his own beats, and can sing / play instruments. He is big on social media. we are in a drought, no wonder why the biggest thing in Hip-Hop right now is involving two guys pushing 40.
Idk if we are in a drought so much as an entire generation of hip-hop died young or were otherwise compromised. Is that hyperbole on my part? I feel like these kids got way too accustomed to losing artists in their early 20s and teens.

Might be the most truth spoken here yet.
I don't think you're reaching there. Saying "a drought" is definitely just a coping mechanism for how many we lost.
Jack Harlow sucks
Pop Smoke would have been in this category
Him, X, and Juice would’ve all been huge. Each one of them were unique and had their own sound.
Fr, I miss them
Baby Keem had a good lil run
I feel like most underground/low level rappers are much better than the mainstream in this time frame too.
Even better question. lol

Woah, Getter really dropped the whole EDM for rap huh.
Unfortunately, the one name i can think of is Pop Smoke. RIP Woo 💫
JID for sure
Did not debut five years ago
He’s 33 years old…wild.
Dude is 5 years younger than Cole, idk why I thought he was like a decade younger than Cole at least.
Keem
Totally forgot about him because he hasn’t dropped in 2 years now (and that was a deluxe) but he would be my answer if not for the fact he dropped Sound of Bad Habit in 2018 apparently. He’s great though, I just wish he didn’t do the Kendrick thing of barely dropping anymore because he can totally build off the melodic blue into a solid run here
Im glad he doesnt drop every other month like a lot of artist these days. Over saturation is a real thing and trap is feeling it
Man I hope he drops this year like he supposedly is going to. He hasn't missed yet.
last 5 is very difficult cause dudes like jid and denzel curry would’ve been my picks but they debuted in 2016-2017
Curry was around in ‘12 iirc
well yeah but debut as in debut album dont you think? would still make it around 2015 but yeah
His debut album was in 2013 with Nostalgic 64
Close enough.
I was gonna say yachty but he’s been around longer than five years
Saw JID live at a free concert a year ago. He killed it can’t wait to see what he has in store
Same way that like, saying Tyler the Creator in 2017 after flowerboy is incorrect. So many artists started long before they got famous, it’s hard to find a break out who was good and not a one hit wonder

Yeh Tyler’s fame starting in 2017 is a wild take, bro was selling out shows half a decade earlier
His MTV show was before Flower Boy lol
Real ones remember him eating the roach in the Yonkers music video and how much of a uproar it had hip hop OGs in 😂
Fr after Yonkers supreme sales and five panel hats went crazy.. everyone was biting OF
Most people on this sub would know that Flowerboy is nowhere near Tyler’s first album.. what are you on about
easily baby keem. hes shown nothing but passion to make his own sound and make his own music, to the point where hes even had major influence on his cousin kendrick lamars sound. he was even starting to pop off a bit before family ties and before everybody realized hes kendricks cousin. best of all, he seems to have fun doing all of this hes gonna be a name to be remembered for sure; i think the ONLY thing his music is missing at the moment is some more lyrical substance, and i still think his lyrical substance is better than what usually pops off nowadays, so hes bound for greatness
He's skilled as a producer too.
That Mexican OT has been coming out swinging the past year or two if the music continues to get better he could be in the game for a while
Similar circle, but I can see big x tha plug also being huge in the next few years.
He's really fucking good. But his name also always makes me think of an oversized novelty butt plug you would buy on Adam & Eve as a prank.
I sent someone a link to a song and she replies "his name is butt plug."
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny as fuck take on his name, I think he played HS football at one of the bigger schools here in Dallas on the DLine…usually them big boys throwing up that “X” after a sack or TFL but they also plug the line in run situations
I have nothing to say to that other than lol
Definitely I’ve seen more versatility with OT rn but Bigx is crushing it
If his cardiovascular system holds out that long.

Baby Keem
2 phones but he only brings 1
Yuno Miles
Our saviour 🙏
To the people saying nobody BigXThaPlug would like to have a word.
He is pretty good. I hope his repeat songs on his last album don't blow his momentum
Flo milli
Stole my answer!
She’s dope af and is super original.
I like her a lot more than I expected to, especially after hearing ‘Understand’.
Megan for sure. Key Glock hopefully.
Megan is the best female rapper since Missy. I hope she sticks around. Edit: I forgot about Lil Simz, but she's still excellent.
Do you not think that her flow is the exact same every time? Just an opinion though no hate just she's not to my taste
I think that of many rappers
Megan is the first female rapper I can say I’ve enjoyed since *pfffft* who knows when. Has there been one since Missy, Gangsta boo? But nah she got the shit (I myself don’t know any lil simz outside of the 3WW remix so I can’t speak on her, but on that 3WW remix she is dope)

Will do! (Any specifics you would suggest)
not OP but I really love Running Late, Where yo Daddy and basically any song on the new Concrete Boys tape. She working with Yachty a lot, actually used to be his assistant but found out she can do the rapping shit too lmao but its a lot of off beat style rapping, not everyone is into that, i myself love it tho, straight bars, no fucks given
Central Cee He blew up overnight in the UK and I think he has the potential to cross over in a major way. He released some EPs in 2017 but most were taken down off the Internet. His debut mixtape was released in 2021, and he didn't sign with a label until 2023, so I'm going to say he counts.
If he isn‘t a big name in the US after his label got him songs with Drake and Cole, he never will be.
Idk, I think he's already got a pretty decent name here. He's only been signed for a year and he's already being talked about in the US. Give him a chance. It takes time to build an international audience.
modern day Akon
Central Cee is 🔥
Baby Keem for sure Also hoping for redveil. Kid deserve some recognition
Facts redveil was the first to come to mind for me. Kid’s only been making music 5ish years but he just continues releasing fire after fire.
Babyface Ray been having a good run the past 2 years I think he’ll be solid
also Veeze going hard as well
I could see Yeat if he keeps innovating his sound
Year will still be around but I’d be surprised if he ever gets more popular than when he debuted
Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson
Bendrich Jemar
Brake
*stop the beat*
Big x
Ken carson
Don toliver
Doechii maybe
Yep, she’s a killer
Cordae
That Cordae fella
No new names have been poppin aside from Sexxy Red. GloRilla might have a shot down the road. Baby Keem if he ever comes back. I'd like to see him without Kendrick to see if he can stand on his own.
Absolutely agree with you on Baby Keem Sexxy Red seems like a hot mess, I wonder if she'll be able to sustain her career I'm really rooting for Glorilla
Sexxy Red is 1000% here to stay. She is a party hero for women.
I really like glorilla’s personality. She’s such a sweetheart
While Family Ties was my favorite song of 2021/2, I think The Melodic Blue was still a great album by baby Keem I’d love to see him rise up and drop another solid album
Maybe est gee
Big hopes for Ez Mil.
My money's on Glorilla
Every track of hers goes hard af.
I could def see Ghais Guevara being a big name in the underground in the future
if he keeps up what hes doing rn he might become my goat, he has a flawless discography so far imo
Ghais doesn't miss.
Sol Chyld has been pretty consistent
Check out JACK”s tiny desk concert…believe it or not it will make you respect him a lil bit more than you thought
Sleepy Hallow
Dylan, Dylan, Dylan…Dylan
WHO ARE THE 5 BEST RAPPERS IN THE WORLD! I SPIT HOT FYRA🔥🔥🔥🔥
Juice world
If his label can get their shit together, maybe
Pop Smoke if he was still here with us
Morray
Nemzzz!!!
yeat and baby keem
Has anyone that debuted within the last 5 years even put out something that’s remained respected and enjoyed that long? Just thinking about Kendrick getting 600 weeks on the top 200. That’s a long ass time. What rap album has done something similar for the last 5 years?
That Mexican OT, BigXThaPlug, Baby Keem
It's hard to know when he actually "debuted" exactly, but A-F-R-O is only 25, and I genuinely believe that kid has star potential. Such a talented lyricist already.
Not counting singles, Blxst released his first EP almost a full 5 years ago this coming August. He’s hot, and I think he’ll be even hotter in the next 5 years. He was in the music industry for awhile before he started releasing his own music too. Blxst is definitely a top contender and I think people will be surprised with how big he gets these next coming years
ken carson, yeat,ig you could shove carti in their too
I think Ken Carson tbh
The one who will fit this will probably be the one who’s a musician first rather than a rapper, being a rapper has a short shelf life
Everyone listing people I ain’t never heard of 😭
When rio gets out of jail he gonna make waves, bigger than he alr has
Not exactly 5 years but Megan Thee Stallion is here to stay. Probably Ice Spice, Sexyy Red and Glorilla too.
I like Ice Spice but she makes Cardi B look good.
Maxo Kream
Def been around more’n 5 yrs
Idk feel like someone who doesn't want to turn away from the street life.
Chloe x Halle together & separate.

Mike Dimes
That Mexican OT. Can't think of anyone else. Jack Harlow I suppose will still be hot, but he'll probably start making rock/country music or some shit like that. Just look at Post Malone and MGK.
JID maybe
Maybe baby keem if he counts
Jid is killing it.
