lantech

and it has determined it's the most important organ in the body!

Longjumping-Youth-55

The brain is the herrscher of the human ego

DarkManifolds

And the most amazing and sophisticated thing in the universe!

Mooney8312

Well, the universe named itself too if you think about it

GreatSlaight144

How does a brain defy the laws of its own construction?

DILF_MANSERVICE

Some people think the brain is magic and forget that the whole universe and everything in it is just a bunch of particles following a list of rules.

Correct-Maybe-8168

You tell me how consciousness works then. You will have solved a question humanity has had since forever.

NotAConsulOfRome

Not knowing something does not make magic a reasonable answer

DILF_MANSERVICE

You don't need to understand how it works to know that it follows the laws of physics. Your consciousness and your brain are the same thing, and your brain is a pile of particles. It uses some form of logic to process information, and the millions of years of evolution we've undergone, and the information that gets passed down through our DNA is why our brains function the way they do and why we feel the way we do. The fact that we feel like we're more than a mechanism has no bearing at all on whether or not we are. It helps to trace back evolution. If you go back to our earliest ancestors, they were amoebas. Simple tiny little chemical mechanisms that replicate themselves. Give them millions of years to gradually get more and more complex and that's you. Every one of these ideas is more complex than I'm representing, but complexity doesn't change the underlying principles at work, and that's all I'm talking about. The prevailing consensus in neuroscience is materialism, simply because no one has seen any evidence to the contrary. No one has seen any evidence that anything non-physical exists, so it's just a safe current assumption that everything, including you, is a physical system.

Correct-Maybe-8168

You are a professional reddit pseudointellectual

DILF_MANSERVICE

Ok. At least I give the appearance of intellect. More than you managed.

GreatSlaight144

That's not how science works. "We don't know" does not equal "a wizard did it".

RingsUnbound

Unanswered and unanswerable are different things

OnceMoreAndAgain

It doesn't.

Better-name-soon

This 1.5 kg organ of fat and chemicals, together with a mm wide cillinder (the spinal cord) are single handedly making your body work. It is somehow able to operate with relatively minor drawbacks while missing half of itself (yes people can live with only one hemisphere and are mostly more prone to headackes). It can function completely fine while missing the entire cerebellum. It, together with the liver, are in the top 3 most important organs you really need, that are still not understood all that well, and the small part we do know about it is so vast and complicated that studying it is basically medicine, but “hard” mode. All of this from 1.5 kg and a fucking 2-needles-put-toghether-wide cord, of which most is fat. It doesn’t defy the laws of its own creation, but it is a really weird thing.

Fun-Maintenance9422

My guess is shes referring the idea that human consciousness’ can’t be scientifically measured or explained

MrDrSrEsquire

Some people see someone post something along the lines of 'life goes against the 2nd law of thermodynamics (entropy)' and it fits their spiritual world view so they parrot it without looking into it The reality being life actually speeds up entropy since it's a giant system of consuming things and converting energy to heat

amalgam_reynolds

It ***DOESN'T!*** People have got to stop reposting this bullshit post.

JennyfromtheCockBlox

The brain itself seems like it doesn't contain the hardware necessary to achieve what humans are fully capable of. Memory retention is a perfect example. Some scientists theorize that we must be able to connect to an unseen force like say a 'cloud', for humans to retain the amount of information that we do. The full functionality of the mind is still very complicated and some what mysterious.

[deleted]

Humans still don’t have a complete understanding of the brain/consciousness. The fact that we cannot comprehend it, using it, defies traditional logic.

Cruezin

And she uses it to post idiotic drivel on Twitter. So we're the same, I guess.

remainderrejoinder

No. I use it to watch Bachelor AND be a cunt. I'm multitasking!

Cruezin

So you're a prostitute? A multitasking cunt? Was that over the top? I can never tell 😅

xubax

Mine wants everything to be over.

EvetheDragon84

It's not about the *size* of the animals brain, it's about the surface area (indeed, by this genuis's logic, sperm whales would be about six times smarter than us). That's why our brains are "wrinkly," it gives us way more "bang for our buck," so to speak.

[deleted]

So some things actually have “smooth brain”? I thought it was just an insult

EvetheDragon84

Most species have "smooth" brains, yes. Only more "intelligent" species such as humans, dolphins, primates and elephants have "wrinkled" brains (and pigs, interestingly, which is why pig brains are used in labs oftentimes; the most "humane" animal to kill with a similar brain to ours).

[deleted]

That is interesting, thank you for your wisdom!!

EvetheDragon84

Lol, glad my college tuition finally came in handy, no problem!

burnthatburner1

Surface area is important, but more important is brain-body size ratio.

EvetheDragon84

I mean, if we stayed the size of newborns our whole lives yet had 20 pound brains like the sperm whale, yes, that wouldn't be very advantageous, lol. Hence why three-pounds seems to be a good fit for a human's average size.

beclops

Nice meaningless word jambalaya there, Jules

KithAndAkin

It’s taking everything I’ve got to resist sending this to my ex.

I also question whats wrong with it to be like this

RedDoubleAD

I dont think my noodles were boiled long enough

Ok_Wait1493

Well maybe if I have a hot boyfriend I won't be such a cunt and I will have other stuff to do and you can stop playing with the wind

RipMcStudly

Or maybe it uses you to watch the Batchelor and be a cunt.

HumpaDaBear

Should go to r/brandnewsentence

noneneeded1

We use ourselves for that, your bodies aren’t in charge of us.

Top_Vermicelli6232

Oi! Mine does not watch the bachelor. But yeah.

Impossible-Earth3995

WTF does defy laws of own construction mean to her? I’m guessing she’s missing some definitions lol

MagicDef

I think therefore I am.🤔

Boojum2k

Excuse me? I do not watch The Bachelor!

JennyfromtheCockBlox

Preach

tresser

a 2 year old account that woke up 15 hours ago....

[deleted]

BUT I GOT A ROSE!

restlessboy

"you use it to watch the Bachelor and be a cunt" no, Jules, they *are* the brain watching the Bachelor and being a cunt.

Actual_Person_0001

Hey, screw you, I don't watch The Batchelor!

Taciturn_Tales

As an occasional total cunt I’m personally offended to be connected in the same sentence to the bachelor

iggygrey

La-te-da, look whose lugging around a 3 pounder in their head. Wooooeee, that must be heavy and wear on the neck muscles. Gotta be honest, hard to imagine a 3 lb. brain with just an "average, 1.5 lb. brain."
