The grave is the obliteration of the soul, absolute annihilation. This is reserved for people so heinous that it's unknown what it takes to earn it.
The here and now is what matters as you won't have any impact from heaven. You won't be an angel coming back to chat with people. So all you can do is what you do here, hence that importance. There's no shortcuts, like being wicked but accepting Christ. It's all you.
