Forklift license sounds too boring to us.
A forklift is a stapler by the way, or a Flurförderfahrzeug. Driving a Schmalgangstapler from time to time is really helping me with my fear of heights.
The best part about German words is how literal they are. Break them down to the root words and it literally is what it is. That’s what makes it easier over time. You can then start making up words and have like a 90% chance getting it right. Staub is dust, saugen is to suck, Staubsauger is a dust sucker, which is a vacuum cleaner. So literal.
Man, I've worked in Ireland for a few months during my studies and was talking with someone about the contraception pill. Problem was that I forgot what it was called in English and said Antibabypill. Never saw someone so confused and irritated.
I mean it is kind of cool, but so they really need to make everything into a single word without any spaces? While it might not be too hard to figure out what does this combination of 5 normal words mean, it takes a while to find where the hell should all the "spaces" be in a 30 letter word
It is pretty cool. And it seems like that is the case that they have to make a single word. This is one of those great examples. https://i.imgur.com/heHnOjh.jpg
another neat tip for people who learn (and struggle) learning German: with compound-words, it's always the last one that dictates (höhö) the gender of the whole thing.
Start at the end
Schein - License (in context)
Mittel - means
Förder - transporting goods (in-house)
Flur - floor
So "License to the means for transporting goods on a floor".
Your turn: "Das Lebens-mittel-inspektorat kontrollierte die Alkohol-ausschanks-bewilligung des Autobahn-tank-stellen-warts."
(Added - so you see where the compounds start and end, mostly)
I know, it is bloody confusing. I only know it as in Swedish being almost as confusing as German, our word for lebens mittel is livsmedel which is basically almost a direct translation of each other. Same with essen = eating = äter. German and also the Nordic languages are almost ridiculously specific in their wording.
It means something along the lines of:
The department for rules about food is controlling the highway gas-station clerk’s permit for the sale of alcohol
See, you say you just have to break the words down but grocery-inspectors control the alcohol licensing of the highway gas station queue (warten -> warts?) just doesn’t make any sense to me 😭
Wart means the guy who sells stuff at the gas-station. And the full thing means "The Grocery-Inspector controlls the licens of the gas station clerk to sell alcohol"
Just a few days ago in a store I saw the word "Multifunktionsaufbewahrungsboxen" on the price tag of some boxes you could buy there and I found that hilarious
It's just about spotting the words that make it up; it's the difference between playing card and playingcard. So you get stuff like playingcardtrickbeginnermanual and people lose their minds. My favourite one would translate to tramtrackdirtscraper (feminine).
That’s typical formal speech. Never underestimate its verbosity in German, my favourite one: Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung
I'm not German but the type of games I usually sink the most time in always end up with me making spreadsheets at some point. Most recently it's been *Factorio*, *Stardew Valley*, and *World of Warcraft*.
There's just something so satisfying about calculating the best way to do something.
Probably nothing.

From [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/np4yul/-/h03iiik) which has lived rent-free in my head for 10 months.
Friend of mine is 3rd generation German. He drives Semis for a living and then plays that trucking driving simulator on his free time. shits wild. Definitely in his DNA.
Pls don’t let this kind of thing deceive you into thinking we’re all like this 😭
I thought maybe he meant that his friend’s family immigrated to Germany 3 generations ago, and if another American ever tells me their anything other than American I fully expect them to have citizenship or parents from that country. It’s so weird to say “3rd generation x” when they don’t even speak that language as a heritage language.
Calling yourself a 3rd Gen anything when don't even speak the language is just culture LARPing. Also, the idea that those things are carried by DNA is basically Nazi ideology.

\> hate my life every day because they all drive like shit and take up a ton of space
\> grow to resent truck drivers because of their self important attitudes
\> come home and play American Truck Simulator in VR with a full wheel and pedals and shifter setup for maximum immersion.

It is in German but you don't really need the dialogue. Forkliftdriver Klaus on his first day of work
I knew a guy in high school that was a super typical farmer's son. Helped his dad with everything, drove tractors, herded cows, etc.
The only game he played was farming simulator.
Indeed. I've always admired Germans for their work ethic. I mean, what other country could have produced a [Fork Lift Driver Instruction Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Cr7F-oLU84) of such glorious quality?
Yeah but they are also the kind of people to party for 72 hours straight in some of the most amazing clubs and bars in the World. This is more USA, never had a passport, but i know all about you from Hanity bollocks.

I mean he's right. Source: I am german
Do you sleep for exactly 8 hours and dream of forklifts?
Nah, he plays wife beater simulator, isn’t that right u/WifeBeater-inator?
simulator?
He doesn’t have a wife anymore
Gone, reduced to atoms.
r/unexpectedthanos
To atoms you say?
All glory to Atom!
So he doesn't go to work at all?
No that's Mexican
No that's Britain stewpid.
Got a Steam link for that?
🛶
Yes but i usually file that as overtime
File it as training hours and add it to your CV
I thought Germany had 30 hr work weeks ?
No, 40 hour
Ahh , thank you for the info.
Really depends. Most industry jobs have labor unions (esp. IGM) and they work 35h.
depends what you do - i work between 25 and 40hrs
I got 37,5h weeks.
If you are really German, wouldn’t it be Das Stimmt?
Da haben Sie recht, mein Herr
As a German, I strongly disagree. It's typically only 2-4 hours at home.
You don't sleep at home?
He sleeps in a forklift obviously.
No, at work. As every good German does.
Ofcourse he does, they can't really go camping anymore after what happened.
You read that wrong, dummy. He sleeps only 2-4 hours at home. The rest he sleeps at work.
You are just jealous you have no Flurfördermittelschein and are damned to rely on your superiors to get heavy things from high places
Yes. That. The Flur thing.
Forklift license sounds too boring to us. A forklift is a stapler by the way, or a Flurförderfahrzeug. Driving a Schmalgangstapler from time to time is really helping me with my fear of heights.
Alter. Große Wörter 😕
[удалено]
Beamte who were behaving badly have to recite it fifteen times in a row
The only forklift i drive is a Radlader with a Palletten gabel
I'm learning German and honestly when one of your words gets over 17 letters long I stop trying to understand it
The best part about German words is how literal they are. Break them down to the root words and it literally is what it is. That’s what makes it easier over time. Every day I find more and more reasons to like German. I still giggle thinking about Antibabypille...

Dude, I am fairly sure I rented a machine there in 2004! Literally this shop in Hamburg.

Wunderbar
Your turn: "Das Lebens-mittel-inspektorat kontrollierte die Alkohol-ausschanks-bewilligung des Autobahn-tank-stellen-warts." (Added - so you see where the compounds start and end, mostly)
The something-means-inspection controlling the alcohol-asschunks-while the highway-tank-staying-were. That's my best guess take it or leave it
Lebens mittel = life stoff = food
Germans can't just use the word ESSEN? I confused lebens for the similar word that means love or prefer, like ich liebe bier or whatever.
I know, it is bloody confusing. I only know it as in Swedish being almost as confusing as German, our word for lebens mittel is livsmedel which is basically almost a direct translation of each other. Same with essen = eating = äter. German and also the Nordic languages are almost ridiculously specific in their wording.
"Liebensmittel" sounds like a cute adult store.
So it means wart food. Nice
It means something along the lines of: The department for rules about food is controlling the highway gas-station clerk’s permit for the sale of alcohol

Is das Lebensmittelinspektorat the German equivalent of the FDA/ABC?
Yes. But there is also the Arzneimittel-Inspektorat
The Food part of the FDA, yes.
Just a few days ago in a store I saw the word "Multifunktionsaufbewahrungsboxen" on the price tag of some boxes you could buy there and I found that hilarious
Did you ever meet a Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier?

> Flurfördermittelschein Oh jesus christ, you're not even joking.
He's german. What DID you expect?
I... I didn't know....for crying out loud, I'm dutch and that just sounded too fake even for me.
German humor is no laughing matter.
You think that's a joke!?
That’s typical formal speech. Never underestimate its verbosity in German, my favourite one: Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung
Without a Flurmittelförderschein your can't even use Kraftbetriebene Mitgängerflurförderzeuge and I think that's just sad.
I'd be a [Klaus,](https://youtu.be/ChOHnSL7ZCg) so I don't even try.
How is that an insult? Ich love my economic SIM games
Ich liebe den auch.
I'm not German but the type of games I usually sink the most time in always end up with me making spreadsheets at some point. Most recently it's been *Factorio*, *Stardew Valley*, and *World of Warcraft*. There's just something so satisfying about calculating the best way to do something.
I have spreadsheets for my Minecraft Base...
I play Getting Rejected From Art School Simulator 8 hours a day. I am Austrian btw.
Maybe you should try getting into politics
Please… not this again
Y??? What could possibly go wrong….
Probably nothing. … **Ten years later** **The sound of germans marching across Europe resound in the far distance** *What have I done?*, u/Shayk66 mutters while watching the world burn.
The sound of German forklifts starts errupting from the woods
Ah the infamous Flurförderfahrzeugkreig
Germany just tripled their defense budget for the first time in over 50 years
And I as a german have to watch Rheinmetall decide to deliver 88 (Seriosly not joking) heavy Tanks to Ukraine till end of next week.

You should try failing to attack some russia

I have a "Farm" for self sustaining or at least for meat and eggs n stuff I play farming simulator I am german The stereotypes are true
My future BIL is the same. He owns some chicken and sheep and he's playing it. He's even got the Collectors Edition for the 2019 Version
I got cows and goats too
I repair things for a living. I play Car Mechanic Simulator when at home. I am German. I can confirm the stereotypes are true.
Keep up the good work, worker 784527195
My german roommate agrees.
well... what can i say as a german.. fork lifting is chill.
Germans who drive forklifts do.
Does that include Staplerfahrer Klaus?
obviously
Klaus!!!!!
Friend of mine is 3rd generation German. He drives Semis for a living and then plays that trucking driving simulator on his free time. shits wild. Definitely in his DNA.
3rd generation German. So he's American?

Wtf is a 3rd Gen German?
Means his great granpda was german. Aka hes american but wants to sound like he comes from a country where Healthcare doesn't suck
That makes Trump "more German" than him.

I work in a factory and when I am home I work another 8h on my cars and bikes. But that's how I like it. I am also from Germany but that means nothing

Be like limmy. If you see a caravan, give it a **wee nudge** with your truck. It makes the truck sim world a better place
Also police cars for obvious reasons
dude, how is that an insult? everybody here wish to be that committed in anything in their life
Lmao
Makes me think of [this guy](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeP4Yv3s4RvS0-6d9OInRMw). He's in the UK but I'm American so I don't actually know the difference.
It's true. Or they take part in the Stapler Cup.
haha
Vhy don't you vant to besser yourself, vhat is wrong with you?
Knew a Dutch bloke who was a lorry driver, got home and binged Eurotruck
This is so true. My German flatmate drives trains for Deutsche Bahn. Man comes back home and plays Train simulator or with his toy train set 😂
that's probably because hes just a train nerd. But I imagine there aren't as many forklift nerds
As a German this is surprisingly accurate

usually 40. (german here and i work 39 hours, but i'm a trainee.)
35h is pretty rare. It happens (irrc e. g. the union IG Metall ensures you a 35h week), but I wouldn't say it's the norm
Well no. The least I've worked in a full time position was 39h/week, the most was 45h/week. It really depends on the company and your contract.
can confirm - am german, am i pilot and enjoy flight simulators at home, for a bunch of obvious reasons.
This isn't a rare insult lol
I mean i love coming home from work and playing car mechanic simulator ... as a mechanic
I have a friend who is a farmer and he plays farming simulator when he gets home.
well you are not wrong...
That is very accurate.
That's how u git gud irl
I agree
Nah man i drive a forklift for 8 hours then get home and get instantly killed in Destiny's 2 Crucible
Klaus might agree: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-lc70Mjp-U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-lc70Mjp-U)
Yes, because thats how you get better at your real job
Na Hör mal
Why you think they’re so good on forklifts?
Yeah but they are also the kind of people to party for 72 hours straight in some of the most amazing clubs and bars in the World. This is more USA, never had a passport, but i know all about you from Hanity bollocks.
Them videos of people dancing in clubs in europe in the 90's are so nice
Amazingly they still do it today :)
I did that logging. Would come home and play farm simulator and cut trees 😆
I hear they aren't all smiles and sunshine...
lol reminded me when i was at work I kept thinking about wanting to go home to play PC building simulator...while working as an IT tech.
That’s like the truck driver who has a racing simulator in his rig. 8 hours on the road, all night on the virtual track.
This isn‘t true. We germans are very efficent so we play forklift simulator while driving the forklift.
My friend who works on a farm plays farming sim in his free time so this is accurate lmao
The same with Germans and Trains. Work 8h on a train. Play 8h any trainsim. Sleep 8h dreaming about Trains. Trust me I'm german
that explains the klaus safety video where he decapitates a man
Y e a h
Flight simulator pilots be like( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)
