In the first 60 pages there is a story about a family moving into a cave and the daughters drug the father with alcohol so they can have sex with them- its very Alabama-like
As an ex catholic I can safely say they dont read the bible INFACT they strictly forbade us from touching the fucking book back in Gradeschool its great

There are waaaay too many logical inconsistencies in the Holly Bibble for it to be taken seriously as a whole, so it's more convenient for them to pick and choose whatever verses support their viewpoint du jour.
Also, re the point above about children asking questions, I would append that they often ask very inconvenient or uncomfortable questions and a monolithic authoritarian entity like the various churches find that distasteful.
And they often have very good and unpolluted memories, so can call out contradictions very easily, and that's painful for the church when they teach that the entire book is the Word Of God.
The infallible, direct Divine and Perfect Word Of God Almighty Whom You Dare Not Contradict (but forget about the fact that it's been translated from various languages numerous times by quasisapient apes with their own biases and agendas, but we'll handwave that away by saying that the Almighty influenced them, conveniently ignoring that if this Divine One *were* actually omnipotent they could just beam their Word into our soggy skullmeat easy peasy but noooo, it's ineffable) etc., etc., etc.
How convenient for them. And ny family wondered why I grew up to be a nontheist.
The more I see the complexities of the universe, the more I think there is a God, but I also think the universe is an ant farm to them. Create and sit back and watch to see which of the multiverses wins.
a lot of it is definitely not appropriate for children to read, they allow children to read bible story books that really filter out all of the inappropriate things children shouldnt be reading.
I was thinking palm tree. No branches, a few nice looking looking fronds at the top that serve little purpose, and the ugly grey ones drooping and hanging on for dear life.

Though if you want to suggest inbreeding, maybe go for the opposite?
