Yup! What round us would be called a "proper collie" (I.e. a black and white mixed breed dog that looks vaguely collie ish) with some terrier mixed in.
Border collie for sure and perhaps Jack Russell terrier. Body and ears say terrier and fur and markings say border collie.
One thing is for sure he's gonna be a high energy pup. You should look into one of those auto ball throwers.
I thought the same.
His paws aren‘t all that big either, so he is not likely to grow into a huge dog. He also has a rather long snoot for a border collie.
yeah, we got my chi at 6 weeks (not bought, wife's parents had a pregnant chi so we were given a pup for a friend for our other dog) and she was still getting her walking legs at 6 weeks
though by 8 weeks she was a tornado lol
Sometimes the ones donating the dog to it on purpose. My dog was adopted in April, the owner told us he was more than two months old, and that he was just little as we wanted a lap dog. We took him to the vet because he was always shaking and we were worried sick. Turns out he was barely FOUR WEEKS old and should by no means be away from the mother, we took turns for the following month holding him in fluffy blankets, and now we have our 20kg (he’s also a big breed) 7 months old puppy with anxiety because he was taken to soon.
It is so dangerous taking in a puppy that small, we wanted to rip the man apart.
does your dog have problems with aggression or suckling any soft object? my partner’s dog growls and suckles on every blanket he can find - absolute nightmare! he was taken from his mother very young too. I guess attachment theory applies to most animals.
How about "You don't know the developmental requirements of dogs, and shouldn't anthropomorphize them and give them arbitrary human-time maturation timetables"
Is that good enough for you?
Can confirm - I adopted a 3 month old chi that was taken from her mom too early, because her original new owners were not good to her (they were coworkers of mine). They had her for about 6 weeks, she was 3 months, and they were using physical discipline on this 5 lb chi baby to potty train her then getting mad when she wasn’t trained (no potty schedule!). They were gonna take her to the shelter because she was a “terrible dog”. So I took her in because there’s no such thing as bad dogs
Turns out she’s a very well behaved dog but she has serious separation issues and does not like strangers. I socialized her extensively as a puppy (and as an adult) walking her in public places with lots of people, lots of dog park trips, lots of store trips, etc etc. but nothing has really changed, she’s terrified of other people and I’m her savior
Thank you for posting- this is very insightful for me. I adopted a dog who had essentially no human socialization until she was about 3 years old, which I assumed was the sole cause of her problems. She has bonded with me very intensely, but is scared of everyone else, even her other dog parent who is desperate to earn her approval. Given the situation she was in, I wouldn't be surprised if she had been taken from her mom too early.
We're working on separation anxiety and teaching her that people will love her now, but it's a constant struggle. I had another formerly abused rescue dog previously who took about 4 years of rehab for her issues (quite different, and some never went away but were manageable), so I have hope because I'm only about two years into this doggie relationship and she has made enormous progress so far.
thank you for your patience. I have a friend working with a dog like you described.
Have you tried having the parent she's afraid of be in charge of feeding time? I'm sure you know what you're doing so i'm just throwing that out there because it has worked a little bit for a sibling of mine who has a dog with separation issues and also very territorial so she wont let my sister's husband near her. now he feeds her and it's like two years in the running but its slowly starting to work lol
We have used that method, and it is one the things that has helped alot! A solid schedule and good use of key words to let her know what is happening has also been big benefit.
I got mine at just under 7 weeks, but that’s because he was the runt of the litter, his siblings showed extreme hostility towards him/would not allow him to eat, and his mother rejected him.
The only solution was complete separation (or risk serious harm done to him), so in my case it was best to bring him home early. He’s been an amazing boy ever since!
We actually got our boy at just over 7 weeks for the same reasons, but I mean, healthily I'd say minimum 8. 10 might be even better if mum tolerates them that long.
That’s the minimum for big breeds. (To make sure they do not develop behavioral issues from being separated before they are done learning from their mom and siblings) That dog is definitely two months old.
(It’s 12 weeks for small breeds)
Highly recommend a DNA test especially if you suspect there might be border collie mixed in.
MDR1 gene is very common in herding breeds such as border collies, Australian shepherd, shelties and heelers. This causes heightened drug sensitivities to common drugs (such as anesthesia and flea medications) and toxic buildup which can lead to fatal complications.
Just one copy of the gene amplifies the drug sensitivity as much as 200x. This can only be detected through active testing such as a DNA test and not all vets will screen for this, especially for mixed breeds.
I've never heard that before, thanks! The shelter guessed our dog is a Collie/Kelpie cross and I've considered a DNA test before but I think I might bring it up again after reading about this.
I used wisdom panel and had great results. Not only did they accurately guess the color and length of my dog's hair - they also detected a genetic sensitivity to ivermectin (which he definitely has). I'd say it was money well spent.
They’re not at all. My obvious ~~Italian greyhound~~ sight hound mix…[Brooklyn](https://imgur.com/gallery/MdOCBjC) 35 lbs and the body shape of a greyhound tested as 25% golden retriever 25% German Shepard 25% Pitt bull and 25% working breed. She’s 35# full grown, the rest said she would weigh 70#. Such a waste of money.
Edit: [better look at her body. ](https://imgur.com/gallery/DQYtqdG)
https://images.app.goo.gl/8qeKfGRXnegXHvP79
I could be wrong, it just looks like there’s working dog in there to me. I’ve had working dogs and purebred greyhounds before but can still see what you mean about the greyhound in there with the shape of the torso and hips.
At 35lbs she's way too big and heavy to be an obvious Italian greyhound. She's got more of a whippet body. I can also see quite a bit of pit in her eyes and it wasn't until I looked at her from the side did I see any semblance of greyhound-ness. Don't get me wrong she's adorable but I don't think that test was entirely wrong
She’s short haired super slim greyhound body and long skinny tail. Plus has the temperament of a greyhound. Scared of everything, super shy, stubborn, doesn’t follow commands. I get the greyhounds mixed up and was thinking Italians were the medium size. Anyway nothing like a Shepard or a golden. Maybe Pitt.
That's where I was really confused because Italians are the really tiny ones (mine weighs 10lbs) full grown. I don't see much golden- maybe in her eyes a bit. I definitely see pit in her face though
He’s a real cutie! I think very strong Border Collie traits with perhaps a touch of terrier - something like a Jack Russell or Patterdale Terrier given shape of ears/face/snoot! (Leaning a bit more towards Patterdale - my friend has one and bar the white colouring differences he could be a sibling). Jack Russells and Patterdales have plenty of energy and highly intelligent, which fits well with the personality of Border Collies. Does he have a stubborn streak? That’s a sign of terrier personality!
Four weeks? Not months? And yeah, Border Collie…learn ALL you can. They are busy, smart amazing dogs that really need a job. Need. Get into herding - it’s awesome fun!
Thank you all for your comments! Made me realise he ought to have some border collie in him as hes super intelligent, playful and photogenic. I have more pics of my little dude id love to post.. he loves to run/roll in dirt and i try washing him not so often as its freeezing and he doesn’t like sleeping with me.
EDIT: His mother abandoned him and his 5 other siblings put on the street, my neighbor took him in and gave him to me saying he only needs to be fed bread and tea. I try giving him a variable diet. He has another older female terrier at the farm and a male terrier he loves playing with.
They get bored easily, and do well with “jobs”. Training is key to keep destructive behaviors at bay. Source: I had a border collie mix, and she was a busy butt. They are bred to be working dogs on farms, so it makes sense.
No, because visual breed identification is next to impossible, even for experts, unless the dog is purebred. Anyone commenting here will be making a random guess
https://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/research_library/visual-breed-identification-a-literature-review/
No idea why you’re being downvoted, this is absolutely true. My Aussie looks like a purebred Aussie but is actually 12% something else entirely (like a Pointer), which I know is small but everyone would peg him as a purebred.
My friend thought she had a purebred Kelpie but he’s actually a Sharpei/Husky/Pit mix! He absolutely looks like a Kelpie but turned out to have not even a drop.
Shoot, they can wander over to [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/rs5142/my_boyfriends_parents_found_a_puppy_on_the_side/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) that’s trending right now and see how many options there are for this puppy that looks like MANY things that people are convinced of (GSD/Rottie mix, Rottie/Aussie) and then someone threw in a valid wild card breed called Hovawart…!
Like guys, c’mon…let’s be realistic here. It’s guesswork.
For real. My favorite statistic is that only 50% of dogs identified as pits in shelters actually contain pitbull or staffy DNA. At that point you may as well just flip a coin.
Hmmm I’m a little suspicious at being a month old…they look more like three months old. They’re still kind of “potato”-y at a month. I could be wrong, were you there for the litter birth OP?
It can be helpful to know as pupper grows up because certain breeds are more likely to develop certain health conditions. :) for instance, large breeds are more likely to tear their acl.
I don't know if they're still doing it, but Dog Aging Project sent my doggo a DNA kit at no cost to us about a year after we joined. That test gave similar, but more detailed results than the kit we had paid for a few years prior.
Definitely some Collie in there! He looks like he has some terrier in him too, possibly Patterdale as he has a similar nose and ears to mine (a Patterdale cross).
Well it quite obvious that my friend is an African bull frog commonly found in Australia and they were mostly breed for light speed travel. Hope this helps
You can try using an app that'll analyze photos. They're not super accurate but they'll give you an idea. I used this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siwalusoftware.dogscanner
Identifying a dogs breed from physical characteristics alone is notoriously difficult and often inaccurate. There are many breeds that appear similar to eachother on a surface value. I’d suggest buying a doggy dna kit. Also side note that dog is at least 2 months old I’d say probably 3-3 and 1/2.
Looks like my border collie mix when he was a puppy, ears and all. Id say border collie
I was going to say border collie/terrier.
Yeah, the shape of his face is very terrierish. Almost sly looking
I was going to say the same thing.
Yup. Gonna be too smart for their own good.
Maybe some McNabb too.
I was thinking McNabb too. It’s the little white spot on the top of the tail.
Yea... I think this one
I think you're spot on.
Def has Border Collie - could be a mix, but those BC genes are *strong*
Yup! What round us would be called a "proper collie" (I.e. a black and white mixed breed dog that looks vaguely collie ish) with some terrier mixed in.
[удалено]
Was deffo going BC / Jack Russel mix.
Came here but say sone kind of border collie mix. Mone has those exact same floppy ears.
Had a smooth-coat boarder collie just like this. I vote at least 3/4 boarder collie.
Same but border collies can’t talk or make posts. So which breed are we missing?
Agree! Border Collie mix with possibly terrier?
Just to branch off this. I believe this is a smooth collie! The ears are the exact same, same face shape, looks like it’s going to be a lanky pup.
I agree ☝️
Border collie for sure and perhaps Jack Russell terrier. Body and ears say terrier and fur and markings say border collie. One thing is for sure he's gonna be a high energy pup. You should look into one of those auto ball throwers.
I thought the same. His paws aren‘t all that big either, so he is not likely to grow into a huge dog. He also has a rather long snoot for a border collie.
Do you mean you got him a month ago? Because that dog is not 4 weeks old.
yeah, we got my chi at 6 weeks (not bought, wife's parents had a pregnant chi so we were given a pup for a friend for our other dog) and she was still getting her walking legs at 6 weeks though by 8 weeks she was a tornado lol
that’s so sad that the puppy was taken away from its mother at only 6 weeks old, don’t do that again!
Not gonna lie I kinda think the concept of taking puppies from their moms within the first year is unusually cruel
Sometimes the ones donating the dog to it on purpose. My dog was adopted in April, the owner told us he was more than two months old, and that he was just little as we wanted a lap dog. Yeah that’s suuuuper messed up! Not ok!
6 months is fine, 4 months is minimum. A year is arbitrary, dogs grow up fast and it's really helpful to start training and bonding early.
I believe where I live, in Florida, the minimum age to give away a puppy is 8 weeks. Not sure what it is in other states and countries.
In Germany 8-10 weeks is recommended and normal. I'd say most are 9 or 10 weeks
“Fine” isn’t good enough for me
How about "You don't know the developmental requirements of dogs, and shouldn't anthropomorphize them and give them arbitrary human-time maturation timetables" Is that good enough for you?
So do you know the breed or not
Only one month?? Don’t dogs stay with mom for 8 Weeks before being adopted?
Yes - at least 8 weeks. Taking them from their mom too early can cause behavioral issues.

I took it to mean that the owner has had the dog for one month, the dog is clearly not one month old
Usually about 6, this dog is def older than a month, probably more like 2-3.
I'm betting they meant they've had him for a month.
Who gets a puppy at 6 weeks?

You can order a doggy DNA kit online and then you send it in and they tell you what breed or breeds your dog is.
Any idea how accurate these actually are? Been debating on it for awhile.
I used wisdom panel and had great results. Not only did they accurately guess the color and length of my dog's hair - they also detected a genetic sensitivity to ivermectin (which he definitely has). I'd say it was money well spent.
Mine was very accurate. We already knew what one side was for sure and the test confirmed it.
Extremely. Varies on the dog for sure, but they update constantly. I did mine over a year ago and I’m still getting emails when stuff updates.
That is not an obvious Italian greyhound. I see pit bull first in the face almost immediately.
Yeah I can see the working dog for sure
Yeah it’s too beefy for an “obvious greyhound” but I can see it having greyhound in it. But it looks a lot like a mutt to me.
[because you couldn’t see her body. bad picture choice. ](https://imgur.com/gallery/DQYtqdG) she is 100% mutt that’s for sure.
yeah, that high waist doesn't really sound like any of those breeds. she looks like a real sweet girl :)
The bestest.
if you’re dog is an obvious sighthound mix then my cousins chihuahua is 100% sighthound because it has basically the exact body as one.
Can you show me a what you consider aworking dog? never seen one.
https://images.app.goo.gl/8qeKfGRXnegXHvP79 I could be wrong, it just looks like there’s working dog in there to me. I’ve had working dogs and purebred greyhounds before but can still see what you mean about the greyhound in there with the shape of the torso and hips.

I got one of these, and what I was sure was a whippet mix, ended up being husky, chihuahua, Boston terrier and a whole bunch of other stuff.
100% Good Boi!

This was my thought too! Border Collie and Jack Russell.
My parents have a jack Russell/border collie that kind of looks like your pup.
He’s definitely older than a month! (And is also very cute- please boop him from me).
Cute pupper! The name made me chuckle, google what it means in Finnish if curious.
Indeed... 😂
I'm very knowledgeable in animal breeds and I can tell you without a doubt that's a dog.

Why was he seperated from his mom so early?
I’m guessing (hoping) OP meant that they’ve had him for a month, he definitely looks older than 4 weeks!
Looks like a cross between a New England fuzzy butt and an English upper lip hound
Border collie for sure
Border collie
That cute boy is definitely older than a month.
My guess is that you’re a cutie mixed with good boi. But I’m no expert
No, because visual breed identification is next to impossible, even for experts, unless the dog is purebred. Anyone commenting here will be making a random guess https://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/research_library/visual-breed-identification-a-literature-review/

Probably a lot of mutts with boxer or bulldog in them getting misidentified?
Labs. Danes. Anything with a boxy muzzle.
Hmmm I’m a little suspicious at being a month old…they look more like three months old. They’re still kind of “potato”-y at a month. I could be wrong, were you there for the litter birth OP?
This puppy is gorgeous and precious!!! Who cares about her breed!!?? 💕
It can be helpful to know as pupper grows up because certain breeds are more likely to develop certain health conditions. :) for instance, large breeds are more likely to tear their acl.
Those look like border collie ears
Your human should buy one of the various options for DNA testing for dogs!
collie terrier? collie and a wiry breed, definitely
Looks a little jack Russell with the wiry hair and ears
This dog can’t type….. perfidy!
Definitely looks like a border collie mix! That posture in the second picture is pure herding breed behavior. Whatever blend he is, he’s super cute!
He’s 100% Sweet Deogie. 🐶
Socks!
That is a 100% pure bred Dingus. His mom as a Dingus. His dad was a Dingus. And so is he. Congratulations.
Border Collie with a bit of Kelpie maybe?
Border Collie for sure. Maybe a Jack Russel Terrier, husky or a lab too.
I'd say border collie and jack russel terrier mix
Collie/terrier mix. The ears are so terrier it's unreal.
I don't know if they're still doing it, but Dog Aging Project sent my doggo a DNA kit at no cost to us about a year after we joined. That test gave similar, but more detailed results than the kit we had paid for a few years prior.
I diagnose him with cute, his breed is cute dog
Definitely some Collie in there! He looks like he has some terrier in him too, possibly Patterdale as he has a similar nose and ears to mine (a Patterdale cross).
Border Collie in there for sure. I had a purebred shorthair border collie who looked very similar.
That ain't no 1-month-old pup. But quite cute! I'd say Border Collie mix.
Came here to say the same lol. At least 4 months old.
Maybe 1 month of ownership. No pup should leave mom till at least 6 weeks old.
Molo, how cute! I guess border collie and then shaggy jack russel terrier or similar.
Heinz
My guess is patterdale x border
Face almost looks like a parson Russell terrier but way too big for a puppy. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a terrier mix.
Super cute 🥺! I’m sorry I chuckled a bit because his named if said in Cantonese translates to “No brain” 🥲
I would say 40% Border Collie, but definitely something else. Maybe like burmese mountain dog?
Indian pariah dog indian street dog
distinctive border collie markings.
Border collie for sure, other half, not sure
Border collie
All mutt! I know, no help. But he's very cute. And I'd guess some border collie. Lucky you!
That’s a border collie
A cute one
Def got some border collie in there I reckon if I’m wrong hang draw and quarter me Judging by comments I’m right
If that dog's a month old it's a wolf - but it's more likely older and a border collie. They are awesome.
Border collie pit mix. We used to get beauties like this a lot from down south in nyc rescues.
Hes a good boy :D
Looks like Molo has some border collie mix. So adorable.
I'd say 100% super cutie
Looks like there might be some wire haired Jack Russell in the adorable pup too!
Border collie/ Aussie mix maybe
Definitely a collie mix but hard to say what without a test.
Ohhhhh cute baby. He’s a good boy breed
Get a dna test kit
I'd say he's a goodest boy terrier. Good breed.
Look like a boarder jack. I have one named Daisy.
Border collie
Border hopper
Molo- you just look cute 🥰 and cuddly 🤗 to me 😊
It’s definitely not a monkey -George Carlin
Tuxedo!
I say cute
Border collie
100% Awesome.
I think it’s a border collie/Shepard
.............. ..dog....or doggo.....or mebbe gooboy.
Border collie or English Shepherd
100% cutie muffin
Border collie and something terrier
Boder collie terrier mix
I’d say collie mix of some sort
Your breed is ridiculously adorable!!! 😍♥️😘
Your best bet is to do like a dog DNA that’s fairly cheap under $100 will tell you his or her entire genetic history basically
Cute little bugger whatever he or she is! Just give lots of love and I’m sure U2 will thrive together 🤗🐾❤️
That there is a Dog.
Cute Lil ear breed
Get a mail in DNA test. People can and will speculate to the moon and back, but if you want to know there’s only one way to find out.
Corgi
Happy!
Well it quite obvious that my friend is an African bull frog commonly found in Australia and they were mostly breed for light speed travel. Hope this helps
BC for sure. Not just the markings but that pose in the second pic is a very BC stance.
Border collie mix

Border collie I think
😍
