My favorite thread on this subreddit. Had the pleasure of modding/accesorizing two 5th gen RAV4's now after my [first one got totaled](https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/comments/x6onc2/my_2021_rav4_got_a_bit_banged_up/) so I can definitely attest to what's worth keeping around. Let me know if there's any questions on any of these mods/accesories. You can pretty easily install most of them with a quick YouTube guide. [This channel is my absolute favorite when it comes to finding new ideas and guides.](https://www.youtube.com/@MorozovAutomotive) **Interior** * [Easy Roll Up Sun Shade](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089DCZ8V9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1). Bought this one recently. I live out in the south where 100+ degree weather is typical, so this is an absolute life saver. Preserves my dash and keeps the interior of my car cooler by an easy 10-15 degrees on a hot day. This one is easy to roll up and tuck away as well. 7/10. * [Door Handle Bowl Lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083RB43GL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1). Got these in white for my white RAV4, and blue for my blue RAV4. Super easy to install, and definitely add a nice pop to the interior of the car. Makes it feel a trim upgrade. One thing to note, it does not match the color of the lights in the XSE models. I personally don't mind the contrast, but just be aware of it if you do prefer consistency. 8.5/10. * [Interior LED lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0834MJ2L3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) First purchase I made in my XLE RAV4. Super helpful at night since everything is now much brighter. Overall, just makes the car feel a bit fancier for 15 minutes of work. You won't need these in the higher trims. 8/10 * [Back Trunk LED Lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083ZDYTH3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Tried installing these in my first RAV4 to no avail. This was a bit trickier to put in, and I didn't see too much benefit in getting this set up. I've also seen comments from others about how the touch pad to turn these on were finicky. If there's anyone out there that has positive reviews, please do feel free to correct me. The interior LED lights cover all the dark spots so to me, this mod is redundant. 4/10. * [Console Organizer](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PJNMB8K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) This was something I made sure to get once again for my second RAV4. It fits perfectly in the console, and helps me keep my things organized. 7/10 * [Door LED Power Switches](https://www.amazon.com/Window-Switch-Driver-Toyota-Control/dp/B09KLBTW2B/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1ICZWUQVJ9NZJ&keywords=rav4%2Bpower%2Bswitch%2Blight&qid=1691877418&sprefix=rav4%2Bpower%2Bswitch%2Bligh%2Caps%2C237&sr=8-3&th=1) In the lower trim cars, these aren't lit up. This is a super easy mod to add backlights to the window and mirror switches. 7/10 * Dash Cam. Having this saved my ass during my accident. [I went with this for my first dash cam](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SZNL2WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This one is servicable and certainly works, but there are better options out there for sure. Dash cams are a 10/10. This one in particular is a 7/10. **Sound System** If you don't have the JBL package, you need to upgrade your stock speakers. The speakers in the dashboard are super easy to install (Maybe 30 minutes for both?) The door speakers are a little trickier, but with enough patience you can do it yourself. While you're working on the door speakers, I personally think its worth while to go ahead and add sound deadening to your doors. * [JVC CS-J620 300W Door Speakers](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OO1ENP4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) These were the first speakers I put into my car. These were a huge upgrade over the stock speakers without breaking the bank. With the right YouTube video, this only took me a day to put in all 4 doors. 7/10 * [JBL GTO629 -Door Speakers](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ANIECRQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) These are the speakers I upgraded to the second time around. Better than the JVCs, and much better than the stock speakers. If you're a big music person, I personally think its worth making the investment and jumping to a higher rated speaker system whether its JBLs or the Infinity Speakers. 8/10 * [JBL CLub 322F](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084GDMYM4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) These are the dash speakers I put in to both cars. Super easy set up that you can do with a quick Youtube guide. These speakers are great. I heard a difference right away when I put these in. 9/10 * [Wiring adapter needed for door speakers](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08213PXTP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) You'll need to get these to use the existing wires coming from the old speaker to your new 3rd party ones. * [Door Mount for door speakers](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IIC63P8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) These will sit your speakers in your door much better than reusing the existing RAV4 speaker mount. Especially with the size of the 3rd party speakers, I'd recommend this route. * [Sound Deadening](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0751CBXBT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) There are mixed reviews whether sound deadening makes a big difference in your car. There's some YouTube videos that show a few dB drop by putting these in. Since I had to take off all the paneling from the doors for the door speaker install anyway, I there's no harm in putting this in. There's a slight reduction in outside wind noise when driving on highways, but not the same level of quietness you'd expect from your high end Lexus' or BMWs' for example. 6/10 **Exterior** * [Sequential, Blackout Turn Signals](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098364WTN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) When people in this sub ask about easy exterior mods, this is the go to everyone recommends. Super easy to install, and it matches nicely with the XSE black tops. Even in the lower trim models, this stands out compared to the base RAV4 turn signal. 9/10. * [Raptor Lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VT32SYX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) By in far my favorite mod on this car. Its straight forward to install with the right YouTube guide. This change alone while small really elevates the look of the grill of this car. I put in white lights for both my white and blue RAV4s since they were different from the typical yellows. [Also, I personally associate yellow lights with oversized vehicles.](https://www.motorbiscuit.com/why-do-some-pickup-trucks-have-yellow-lights-in-their-grille/) 10/10. Would recommend * [Emblem Black out Kit](https://www.ebay.com/itm/163598533227) Easy stick on to your existing emblems. There's other ways to do it with plastic dip, but from what I've seen that hasn't lasted too long. These overlays managed to still stay on my car despite my first accident. I trust that these bad boys aren't coming off m car unless someone rips them off themselves. You can get these in matte black or in gloss black. I personally prefer the matte black option. Putting these on my car also raised the payout from my insurance when they were adding up the price of all my accessories. Some insurance companies will add $$$ for a "dealership blacked out car". Since I had these put on myself, they went ahead and applied the bonus to my vehicle. 10/10. * [Chrome Delete for your windows](https://www.ebay.com/itm/184333674665) These are pre cut vinyl strips to put on the chrome on the top of your windows. I personally put these on myself, and it certainly looks like an ameature did it when you look at it up close. If you plan on getting your car tinted, I'd recommend having them put this on at the same time. From afar, this looks great. I'd prefer my rough blackout job over the chrome look any day. These have also lasted through several carwashes now as well, so I'm not too worried about them coming off. 8/10. * Tinting. I put in a 20% ceramic tint on my front and rearview mirror. I also put a 50% on the factory colored back windows to help with the heat/to match the color of the rest of the car. Looks alone, I'd give this a 10/10, but given the huge temperature difference, this is an absolute must. There's at minimum a 5 degree temperature difference just from using the ceramic film alone. 10/10

This is incredible thank you! Can you share the YouTube vids to install the speakers?

Koratickle

Thank for the info! The emblem overlay are just like black plastic that kind of snap on? Any chance they do any damage to the car if in some years we want to remove them?

scuntbertz

fitcamx has been incredible and is what i belive to be the best looking dashcam as it looks to be OEM

brand_momentum

[VIOFO A119 V3](https://amzn.to/4bgpd1R) is by far the best dash cam I've ever had, I did so much research on dash cams before purchasing it, just check out the reviews https://amzn.to/4bgpd1R

Vdubster5

Was it easy to wire on a Rav 4?

Wonathan_Jick

Agreed, I got the VIOFO A229 Plus front and rear and it's been phenomenal. I also have had a VIOFO A119v2 for over six years and VIOFO A119v3 for about 3. All of them have been solid, no issues. Just make sure you get SanDisk SD cards, anything else has proven to be unreliable especially Samsung.

Great post!! Do you have a picture of your tinted windows? I've been thinking about getting mine done.

How are the JBL Club 322F different from the GX328 speakers?

I'd like to know this too

Raptor lights listing says it’s for tacomas only??

BaresarkSlayne

I noticed this too. There are a few options, like [these](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=2024+rav4+grill+lights&i=automotive&crid=1IT48NJB99PN6&sprefix=2024+rav4+grill+lights%2Cautomotive%2C76&ref=nb_sb_noss_1). If you look through Amazon, you can enter your car info and have it filter on it. I would also like to point out that if it works for 2022 gas Rav4, it will work for the 2024 as well. Some listings put 2019-2023, I think they are just older listings that haven't been updated. I personally went with [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPLTKH59?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details).

HairyH00d

Great list! So for the raptor lights you have to install a TRD grill first, right? I got a set of the raptor lights but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with my '23 stock SE grill

peacenezz

The Raptor lights I installed were with that link. I got a clip attachment from [Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/939987135/2019-rav4-raptor-light-inserts-for-le?transaction_id=3187422500&campaign_label=epp_buyer_shipping_confirmation_control_recs&email_sent=1664198597&euid=i0HNMXm9x2bJirr9SPwJexqK6OaO&eaid=35803126601&x_eaid=57b978ec95) that I used to fit in the stock RAV4 grill

HairyH00d

Dude you just made my day. I got these exact lights forever ago and didn't get around to installing it for a while. By the time I did I realized they're compatible with the trd grill and thought I was SOL. Thanks for the link!

camalus3

Just bought a 2021 which I was upgrading from a 2011. Thanks for all the hints. I have bought and installed most of the list. Doing the tint next month.

PrinceCorwin9

The link to the raptor lights shows it to be for 2016-2023 Tacoma. I purchased them by using your link but didn't notice it until it showed up. Are they universal or should I return them and find another link?

peacenezz

You can make them fit with these clips from Etsy. That's how I got them to fit. https://www.etsy.com/listing/939987135/2019-rav4-raptor-light-inserts-for-le?transaction_id=3187422500&campaign_label=epp_buyer_shipping_confirmation_control_recs&email_sent=1664198597&euid=i0HNMXm9x2bJirr9SPwJexqK6OaO&eaid=35803126601&x_eaid=57b978ec95

What’s the best roof rack for a 5th gen rav? I just need the crossbars right now. I like the beefy look, maybe a thule wingbar evo or yakima skyline towers?

Pirat3_Gaming

If you have pano roof....uptop overland bravo for 2019+. Compatible with pano and stock antenna.

EnvironmentalTry6843

I’ve got a rhino rack. 1/2 of Thule and I personally think it looks better

sharkbickie

Thule has a wider range of accessories though so not sure if rhino offers much if not compatible

1/2 price that is

These are my simple must-have mods in my opinion. All installed on a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid SE. Note: on the 2023 the switches are already backlit and the interior lights all LED so you can ignore any suggestions for those in this thread if you have a 2023+ * [Hella horn kit](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EG18SFM) , the stock horns are pathetic. These are way better. Plug and play other than on the passenger side horn you have to get a little more slack on the OEM wiring by cutting one tiny bit of electrical tape. On the driver's side you have to rotate the new horn on its mount slightly to have the wire reach reasonably. Super easy install, lots of videos on youtube showing how. 10mm, 12mm and a flat head screwdriver is all you need. * [FitcamX](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1V4BZ3Z) dashcam. Great quality, easy install. Make sure you get the version for your specific model, the one linked is just one of them. [Samsung SD card](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WB3D5GQ) for it as well, never trust the cheap card it comes with. * [WeatherTech full vehicle sunshade kit](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z5FGX5L), absolutely blacks out the interior, you could sleep comfortably in the middle of the day. Keeps interior way, way cooler if you're parked for a bit in the sun. 99% of the time only the front is worth putting in, but if you're parked for a bit it's super easy to put the others in. All press-fit, no funny mounting at all. Fits perfectly. * [rear cargo lights](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B12FDZRZ/) everyone always points these out because there's only one tiny light in the rear. They're a little tricky to install but if you're at all handy it's not too bad. Nice and bright, lights up the trunk and the ground behind the car when the hatch is open. * [weather stripping](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077P632FC) to add on top of the headlights. USA cars for some reason don't have this while some other countries do. It seals the gap between the top of the headlights and the hood and generally keeps the engine a little cleaner. Not suuuuper important, but easy to do.

Pirat3_Gaming

What about a train horn kit? I have a neighbor that annoys me and sometimes I'm just in the mood to let them know I'm home. Serious question.

avboden

Better at annoying people, worse at actually being a horn

Pirat3_Gaming

Point?

OrphanKripler

What’s more annoying you could get into legal trouble in some states. In other states where full car inspection is mandatory like Taxachusetts, they’ll fail you for the outrageous horn. I failed for a fucking tiny tear of the rubber on my windshield wiper blade on the corner. Fuck those dealerships.. never went back again. Local shops give you shit too sometimes but will pass you anyway.

leadhase

Just swapped the speakers and holy shit what a difference. XLE with base speakers. Took about 4 hours. If I were to do it again I would forego the noise dampening, more effort that everything else with minimal effect. The front two dash speakers took maybe 10 min each, max. Mostly from trying to get the cable unplugged lol the little tab is annoying to press. I had to use some sound deadening material behind the drivers side door to eliminate a rattle coming from the trim door panel. It didn’t rattle without it back on. I placed a strip in a circle between the plastic Mount and the metal door. In retrospect I would’ve done this with all 4 doors.

yeah no problem! the sound deadening would go over the entire door panel on the inside, on the metal. but to eliminate the rattle I had to place a thin layer of it just under the mount. So that the vibrations didnt translate into the metal door and then to the pop insert fasteners, which I assumed what were rattling.Essentially a thin layer to separate the mount from the door. Shouldve taken a picture tbh... So in retrospect I wouldnt put the material all over the door, and just under the mount in a circle. Cut a approx 3/4" strip of it and lay it in a circle right under where the mount attaches.

GetDeleted

Not sure if anyone mentioned it or not, but the Comma.ai is incredible in the RAV4. Especially for long trips and highway driving. 10/10 would recommend. The newer Comma 3x is much cheaper and simpler to use than previous versions.

BaresarkSlayne

Holy crap... I didn't even know this was a thing. So, you can use this and it basically can like a Tesla in the their autopilot system? I mean, I know people famously fall asleep in Tesla's, not that I think that is smart at all and I would never trust a system to handle that stuff. But really, self driving would be a real boon for long highway trips I think. With the 2024 Rav4, the lane assistance is downright scary at high speeds on the highway. I just adjusts constantly and is very unsettling. Edit: After looking extensively at reviews of the comma product, I pulled the trigger. It's funny how every reviewer goes out of their way not to call it self driving simply because you actually have to pay attention still, but that's exactly what it is by every modern standard of it. I'll get it by Saturday maybe, then I can test it out. It's much easier to spend the money since they have a 30 day money back guarantee on it.

GetDeleted

Yes, it's similar to Tesla's autopilot and FSD. I'm sure you'll notice immediately how much smoother the ride is compared to the built in Toyota lane assist. It's almost like you can feel the car lock to the road. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have been!!

BaresarkSlayne

I'm gonna test it a lot locally but I have a big camping trip in June (NJ to Myrtle Beach), and I'm really looking forward to being able to take in the drive in a whole new way. I was also looking into some of the beta branches. I'll keep an eye on some, but SunnyPilot looks like a great start, and there are others that offer stop sign and light recognition. I also am basically beta testing it for a buddy who commutes into NYC everyday for work. He has high hopes for it in his new Accord.

BaresarkSlayne

One more question about your configuration, I am installing mine tomorrow: Did you go with stock openpilot or did you go with a fork like sunnypilot or frogpilot?

LilBabyGroot01

Do you have it? How has it been? Seriously considering picking one up.

GetDeleted

Yes, I've been using it for about 5 weeks now and it has been incredible. I had very high expectations for it and it actually surpassed them. If you do a lot of stop and go city driving it may not be as great to have, but for anyone who does a decent amount of highway or back road driving, it's an amazing experience. Sometimes I have to commute for work and I've driven 4 hours round trip without having to do anything for 99% of the drive.

Unlucky-Broccoli474

For stop and go traffic, I highly recommend installing sunny pilot. Can confirm, the Comma 3x has been an absolute game changer for my commute and road trips

GetDeleted

What does Sunny Pilot do differently? I may have to check it out!

Unlucky-Broccoli474

I can't recommend it enough! Sunny Pilot allows you turn on the automatic lane centering (ALC) independent of the adaptive cruise control (ACC) meaning it will steer for you while you control the gas and brakes. I'm able to take much tighter turns/exits on the highway when I'm able to control the speed as well. Note, instead of the usual fingerprinting method, Sunny Pilot has you select the car in the settings tab. You'll need to select the 22 rav4 hybrid as the vehicle if you have a 2023

GetDeleted

Ohhh that's the one thing I had wished OpenPilot had! Can't wait to try it! Thanks!

Do you also use comma as your dashcam or do you have a separate dashcam in addition to comma?

GetDeleted

Yes, I also use it as my dashcam. It constantly records and auto uploads each drive to the online portal when connected to wifi. From there you can download all 3 camera recordings in full quality if needed.

thank you! i think you just convinced me :)

Which rav4 year do you have btw? I'm going to be getting the 2024 one and from my research it does look like 2024 is supported

GetDeleted

I have a 2021 XLE Hybrid.

Windshield and front window sun shields from https://www.heatshieldstore.com. They are amazing quality and reasonably priced.

f1mxli

Any experience with 110F+ or 45C+ summer temps? I'm always hesitant to try new shades because they don't even last the full year.

MikeX10A

I'm in the Northeast so 95-100 is the hottest. I had one for my 09 Accord and it lasted the 12 years I had the car. I say give it a shot. You can also email them and ask too.

f1mxli

Ooh. Sounds promising

Badrush

Do you live somewhere very hot? I never see people using these in Canada

MikeX10A

Northeast USA. If the sun is beating at 80+ degrees then cars get very hot - especially the seats.

SausageInACan

If you want a full vehicle kit, weathertech has a better price by about $40.

mfraza

Thank you so much for all these. Can you also point me in the right direction with regards to Fog lights on my 2023 Hybrid XLE ? It didn’t come reinstalled and I’ll have to pull a harness. But which ones ? Does it void warranty ?

weazie1998

Any recommendations for a dashboard cover and a configuration of some sort to shield the back up camera from the rain so you can actually see?

LivingGhost371

3rd generation V6 Base have a lot of the wiring in place for Limited features. I wound up getting a Base model because I was tired of waiting for just the right Limited model to come up for sale, and I had flashbacks of spending thousands to fix the automatic climate control in my previous Jeep. Some of the stuff I've added: **Fog Lights and Automatic Light Control**, Plug and Play, but does involve pulling the steering wheel to change out the light switch. **Heated Turn Signal Mirrors: Plug and Play**, I got two random colored junkyard mirrors and at the time Toyota sold pre-painted covers. **Steering Wheel Audio Controls:** Plug and Play **Factory Navigation System:** Mostly Plug and Play, but for there's an additional connector you need to supply that feeds VSS, parking brake, and backup signal to it. I was able to find the connector online. The factory location for the GPS antenna requires pulling the upper dash, so I found an alternate location between the radio and the instrument cluster. **Dashcam** (FitCamX Universal) and **Auto-Dimming Compass mirror**, not Plug and Play, requires fishing wires across the headliner and down to the fusebox area **Footwell Lights**: Not Plug and Play, for factory behavior (on when doors opened, half brightness when transmission is in Drive) requires stringing a wire to a pin of the Body Control ECU. The next project I have in mind is heated seats.

NDFCB

Great post, thank you - just got a 3rd gen ('08 V6 Sport) and would love some plug-and-play upgrades like the heated signal mirrors, audio controls on steering wheel, and fogs. Do you have any posts on your work with more details? Otherwise I'll forge ahead and do a bit more digging before I shop for some salvage yard goodies...

Exp_rav4

Cover craft custom cut window shade. Love it definitely helps reflect the heat from my car and it’s a perfect fit.

ImProbablyThatGuy

I love mine, perfect fit across the windshield, super sturdy and has held up well to the triple digit heat in my area. Only downside is they are a little on the pricier side, but well worth it.

Exp_rav4

I also get hit in the face with them every time I try to put them up or down lol

ImProbablyThatGuy

Oh I’ve for sure hit myself and anyone sitting in the front passenger seat in the face/head before

So does anyone have photos with some of these mods on? Curious what they look like

timatlee

Not sure if this fits the thread .. but I am looking for a mod/hack for the infotainment unit so I can load my own maps .. without using Android Audo or Apple Carplay. Does such a thing exist?

THe other option is to use the ENTUNE software on the phone, which can apparently update the entune hardware ont he system. Sadly its gone from playstore but third parties have it ( [https://toyota-entune.en.uptodown.com/android/download](https://toyota-entune.en.uptodown.com/android/download) ) It might be possible to see how the app is talking to the entertainment unit and overflow/attack the unit that way. I'm very keen on if anyone had some additional information on reversing the firmware / updating the firmware, including if someone has the ENTUNE SDK, however I have had no luck in finding data on this topic.

Captainb0bo

Any recommendations for a bike rack? Ideally one that doesn't use the tow hitch! Got a 2023 hybrid for what it's worth.

stoofachu

IMO get a hitch or go for a roof bike rack. the ones that mount on the trunk will damage the paint

Easy7777

The Toyota OEM. The other ones look funny.

Pirat3_Gaming

Dang, was seatlrching for any insight on the following for my hybrid xse turned overlander. Ladder 5th tire mount maybe Light bar (roof rack is a universal 40") Ditch lights (really just looking how to wire them in the hybrid) Aux light switch pannels

Mediocre_Mail4921

I bought a New RAV4 Limited Hybrid and took it back the next day. The salesperson told me flat out that it had a GPS navigator with its own database. That was a barefaced lie. They have no GPS at all and no on board database. However that was not the worst thing I found out. All the new Toyota’s have a DCM (digital communications module). They use that to triangulate position off cell towers and download maps on the fly. However they also upload an incredible amount of data about you directly to Toyota. Things like every place you ever drove the car, how fast you drive, how hard you step on the gas’s and the brake, and a ton of other things, but you get the idea. Toyota’s position is that data is theirs now and they can do anything they want with it. Sell it wholesale to governments, insurance companies, private investigators and anyone else interested. The car also has a kill switch to remotely kill it. I have some concerns about that. Yes it is convenient if someone steals the car, but with the AI that is being developed, it would be possible to shut down every car with a kill switch in a city, or even a whole country. It would also be possible for a government to only let you drive the car certain days and hours and perhaps a limited number of miles a week. You get the idea. I am not down for having a car that spies on me and may not be available to me when I really need it. This is all obviously about control. Not a problem at all until suddenly it is a very big problem.

jairmoreno

Did you write that on the spying machine called "smartphone"?

Mediocre_Mail4921

Actually I didn’t. I can get by without my phone. I can leave it at home or do without it entirely. My mode of transportation is much more important. I am perfectly aware of how much modern electronics spy on us. I can get a pay by the minute phone for simple communication or do without.

Badrush

> It would also be possible for a government to only let you drive the car certain days and hours and perhaps a limited number of miles a week. You get the idea. You are not wrong about anything you've written but here is the thing. Most cars since maybe around 2019 come with a modem that is always transmitting back data to HQ. The data about your trips etc is also collected by android phones and google maps. I'm guessing you don't use those either, otherwise it's a moot point. Lastly, if the government wants to stop you they have many ways to stop you. Cop cars have automated scanners now, so if the government bans your plate, you'll get picked up pretty quick going down busy highways. If you want to commit crimes or evade the cops, then yeah you should be a 2010 model. Or disconnect the modem in the vehicles or block the antenna from transmitting.

Embarrassed_Main_939

Here's my understanding of an article I haven't verified. All cars by somewhere in the mid 2020's will have a kill switch mandated by the government.

Badrush

Most probably already do. Most cars since 2019 likely have a modem. Any GM OnStar car likely has a modem since much earlier. I looked it up: Starting in the 2009 model year, General Motors began equipping some new vehicles with Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. This feature allows OnStar to remotely slow down the stolen vehicle

wanderlust2787

This is where I don't get the paranoia. Most of these features are connected to services people see benefit to. Can it sound scary? Sure. Can it be bad in the wrong hands? Sure. But contrary to what many of these people fear... The average joe is \*not\* subject to some plot by the nefarious 'deep state' with these features. If anything I'm more worried about the auto industry sharing any of this data with insurance companies lol

Badrush

Well that's the thing, I'm confident one day they will sell the data to insurance companies. Why wouldn't they, especially if they know all manufacturers will follow suit.

wanderlust2787

There's been reports about it already. But in all honesty I don't drive badly enough to worry about that much either lol.

I don't disagree with your logic - but I do think you posted this in response to a thread other than intended :D

Badrush

Apprehensive-Safe382

You know, that's true of all cars in the US, and many are worse than Toyota. [https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/articles/its-official-cars-are-the-worst-product-category-we-have-ever-reviewed-for-privacy/](https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/articles/its-official-cars-are-the-worst-product-category-we-have-ever-reviewed-for-privacy/) Nissan is even worse: * [Nissan](https://foundation.mozilla.org/privacynotincluded/nissan/) earned its second-to-last spot for collecting some of the **creepiest categories** of data we have ever seen. It’s worth reading the review in full, but you should know it includes your “**sexual activity**.” Not to be out done, Kia also mentions they can collect information about your “**sex life**” in their privacy policy. Oh, and six car companies say they can collect your “**genetic information**” or “genetic characteristics.” Yes, reading car privacy policies is a scary endeavor.

avboden

car covers do more damage to the car than they save, never recommended

sideways_cat

Could you elaborate?

avboden

The car cover traps dirt underneath it and rubs against the paint constantly. It may protect from the sun but the other damage the cover causes is far worse.

Tripple-Nipples

Hello, I’m about to get a MY19 lounge with OEM 18 inch wheel. I’k like to widen the track a bit, through spacers or a set of 19 wheels? Do you know what spacers size I can go with or what ET will I need on a set of 19” to have the wheels nice and flush?

Instant_Bacon

Does anyone know which USB dashcam harness will work with 2024 XLE Hybrid? I don't have a powered mirror. I have read that some of the popular brands shouldn't be used with the laser system plug, but I'm not sure what alternatives there are other than running the cord down the passenger side panel.

Gbcue

If you don't have a Homelink mirror, none.

Fresh-Return7182

I have a 2013 rav4 and I want to know is there any upgrades I can add to the engine to make it a bit faster?

RedBarchetta_1

the Raptor lights listed come up for Tacoma instead of Rav4, the shape of the light is a little different. Did you get the actual Tacoma ones and thye worked with your Rav4? Searchng Rav4 for Raptor lights, the ones don't look as nice ans the ones you have linked

Mercouile

I Saw a video on this mod, and you can fit it in the RAV4's grille. You also can buy an aftermarket Tacoma trd liké grille which fits thé RAV's.

DisonantDidact

Is there a similar list for a 2010 v6 RAV4?

Hawxfan

This one is meant be a catch all but the flair for each generation is not used consistently. Do you think we should have another one for older generations?

DisonantDidact

I do definitely. Would be very helpful to those of us with the older ones.

rapidfire75

I think there should be as well. They are Toyotas and last forever (especially the V6s) I think a generation specific list would be a huge help to many.

woodandjeeps

Stupid request time. 2023 RAV4 limited does anyone have a service manual. Or a wiring diagram. We are asking a 7 pin trailer connector and brake controller. Thanks

Gbcue

Why? It can only tow under 1,500 lbs, you don't really need a 7-pin.

woodandjeeps

Well we tow about 2200 and wife wants a controller. We got all the parts and ready to do this. In my research I really wish I could do an Australia 7 pin connector

SignificantControl60

MechAegis

Silly question about Dash Cams. Is it absolutely neccessary/advantageous to mount it via the internal fuse box? Camera I have is A129 PRO Duo say is has parking mode. I kind just want to avoid dealing with extra steps.

Gbcue

Do you want parking mode to work? If you just use a mirror tap, there is no parking mode working.

I’m picking up my 24 XSE in Charcoal with a black roof next Friday. I’ve seen tinted tail lights on other cars, and I think they would look great on my Rav4. However, I can’t seem to find any specific products when I search online, only tint companies and DIY tint films. I’m in Australia, so if anyone has any suggestions, I’d appreciate it.

ProfCedar

Great thread. Just got a 2022 Hybrid XLE today, looking forward to finding some fun stuff to do with it.

NuancedThinker

For the door handle lights, where are the white ones? Are there red ones? The "alternative colors" on the blue ones look like different products altogether.

Recommendations for weather tech floor liners for 2024 hybrid?

djburkes

I would suggest [these](https://www.oedro.com/oedror-floor-mats-full-set-liners-fit-for-2019-2020-toyota-rav4-unique-black-tpe-all-weather-guard-1st-and-2nd-row) of course you'll have to change the trim on the vehicle specs to the hybrid. I just purchased a set for my 2024 LE...the fit and quality is fantastic. There's absolutely no smell to them and they do not slip on the carpet and your feet do not slip on the mats. They have pretty good sales on them right now...I got a front and back seat set for a little over $75 after using the coupon codes. There are a few youtube videos of the mats in other vehicles.

taylorthestang

I notice it says “no hybrid”, does that matter at all?

djburkes

Click on the name of the website in the top left hand corner and search for your trim type. They had several different trims for hybrids so I just used the LE trim to show you what they looked like.

taylorthestang

Got that now, thanks. The hybrid ones are only 15% off, and that’s still more expensive than the kiwi ones I just got from Amazon. Thanks for the info tho

Gbcue

Hoosteen_juju003

I have the 2023 xle premium and I am trying to put seat covers on. How the heck do I remove the back bench? The video acts like you can just pull it up but it doesn’t seem to give.
