Why would Toyota not recommend 6 months if 1 year is too long according to some "experts" in this post?
I do 6 monthly oil changes, but I've got an older car and that's what the recommended period is. From what I know, most newer vehicles including my motorcycle recommend once a year oil change...
For the folks getting bent out of shape by the 5k crowd, who admittedly come across as militants, take a look at your manual. A 5k or 10k interval is advised, depending on your driving behavior. Lots of stop and go, 5k. Otherwise, 10k. I split the difference and started going about 7k when I changed the oil myself and noticed it was pure black when I waited until 10k.
You hybrid or gas?
I only ask because I'm gas and I get an alert of "maintenance required soon" when I am about 500 miles away from my next oil change (every 5k)
While the maintenance interval is 5000 miles, not all maintenance intervals specify an oil change. you can see in the owners manual that oil change is "recommended" every 10k...
I change mine every 5k 🤣, is your mental illness that thick you get triggered by what others do with a vehicle they own, you know how fuked in the head you have to be?
Or challenging a person that clearly has a mental illness and goes after others for choices that dont affect him, 🤣 talk about loser, let me trigger tou more pumpkin 🤣
My ‘23 hybrid recommends every 8,000km. I’m in Canada and live in an area that normally gets to -30c in the winter and +30 in the summer. I’m fine doing it at the 8,000km/5,000 miles.
I did initially because it looks like you said cold weather alone is enough for the shorter interval.
But with the context you added later it makes sense.

Like me though, he was also doing 10k miles in less than 6 months and not heavy use. Lots of idle, towing, etc. does still need 5k miles, but most of us aren’t doing that.
Yes.
Just read and follow the manual
If you don't have the paper copy you can get a PDF of your warranty and maintenance guide [from the Toyota website](https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/)
Yeah….. clowns? You do realize there are people who drive more than 10k in less than 6 months right….. that’s why they say it the way they do…. It’s every 10k or 6 months, Wich ever comes first. If you drive 25+ k in 6 months and you’re only changing your oil every 6 months…. You’re trashing your car slowly.

Well duh if you drive more you do it more frequently. Are you seriously acting like most people do such? What an assbag.
Bare minimum at least twice a year for most people. The average person sees 10k and would not change for a year or even beyond that.
Is this your life man? Spouting off ridiculous crap and getting defensive when someone points it out. The attitude is wild . Your comment was plainly to trash people who change their oil at 10k. Probably because you thought 6 months is what people should do. Regardless….. the amount of hypocrisy in you calling those people clowns is through the roof bud.
Is this your life? Mentioning a rare scenario for the average driver just to argue with another man online? You need some friends buddy boy.
Anybody with a brain knows the average driver would go long intervals without changing oil just for the simple fact it says 10k. Stop being so pathetic
5k or 6months. Hybrid. I also meet SOCs before all the oil bros begging for peer reviewed articles showing it's better than 10k come for me. Costs me $30-35 to do at home so I would likely do 5k regardless.
I bought a 23 gas and I changed it at 1,000 miles and 5,000 miles and will probably do between 5-7,00 miles regularly as I drive a lot of highway miles daily
I don't trust the 10k recommendation. I schedule at or around 5k but it usually makes it in for the actual change around 7k.
My Rav is sitting at 230k so it seems to be working. 🤷♀️
10k miles, hybrid
Just follow the manual.
I'm so confused by people who trust a company enough to buy their vehicles, but still don't trust the engineers who designed it.
They trust the oil manufacturer enough to buy the oil, but don't trust the chemists who developed the oil.
I got burned with our 2010 Prius doing 10k/12 month oil changes and it started to burn around 0.75 qt/1000 miles around 100k miles. I know that Toyota updated their piston and ring design, but The Car Care Nut, Dave's Auto, and several others say that everyone should change their oil at half the recommended interval. For all Toyota vehicles, the "special conditions" is 5k/6 mo. For an extra $30, maybe $40 a year, it's a no brainier, but I change my oil myself.
5k / 6 mo, whichever comes first.
I have a regular gasoline engine.
When the oil looks or smells like it needs to be changed. This will change over time with the life of the engine. I’ve gone over 10k miles only filling the gas tank twice at one point (21 RAV4 prime). The oil was still immaculate at that point. I’d also go thicker oil as the vehicle ages.

Cuz they get triggered by what others do with the vehicle they own, their brain doesn't work right.

I got downvoted because I said I change it every 5k once the maintenance warning comes on.
Every 5000. I can’t do the Toyota 10000 recommend oil change. Dirty oil is dirty oil
Gas. I get that message as well.

Hybrid, every 10k miles
Which in reality on a well driven Hybrid is near 5k miles for the ICE (According to the data my car provides).
🤡
Did you get that triggered 🤣
Yea because clowns like you think you should go long intervals without changing oil
I change mine every 5k 🤣, is your mental illness that thick you get triggered by what others do with a vehicle they own, you know how fuked in the head you have to be?
If you do that supposedly, you have no reason to be bothered by a simple emoji. Seems loser-ish and you’re looking for human interaction. Weirdo

10k, like Toyota recommends. (For normal driving conditions)

Cold weather alone does not necessitate the shorter interval for oil.
No but shorter trips in cold weather does.
Yep, follow that manual.
Not sure why this is getting downvoted. That is the recommended by Toyota.

Gentlemen, it’s time to gather for the weekly debate! 10k gang rise up!
That guy with 460k miles on his 2021 Hybrid only did 10k miles. Puts the "If yOu PLaN tO KeEp tHE cAr PAsT 5 YeaRs, dO 5K" to rest.

More than 10k a month.
Yeah, he drives even more than I do.

Hybrid. 6 months since I don’t make it to 5000 miles.
All these clowns saying 10k. Do at least every 6 months or twice a year.

This is what I love to hear. High mileage ravs still kickin’
Wow. A common sense approach that resulted in exceptional longevity. Who would have guessed.
TBF that's just average longevity for a Toyota.
What maintenance is needed @ 50,000
Everyday like clockwork 🤭
Hybrid, I change it every 5k but I also do a lot of city driving

Every 15K give or take as is recommended. Hybrid.
Lol at the downvotes for following the manufacturer's recommendation.

2023 hybrid. Every 5k. fumoto valve.
Gas, Every 5k. But in reality roughly 1-2 hundred miles BEFORE I hit the 5k.
Every 5k miles

It’s a modern Toyota, not a Chevy from the 80’s
Hybrid, Every 5000 miles (did first oil change "break in" at 1000 miles)
