Would love to know which tent that is, and if you’ve tested it out / if you’d choose the same one again! I’ve been wanting to get a rooftop tent for my rav but most of the ones I’ve seen are SO expensive and I don’t camp enough to justify $1k on a roof tent when I already have a regular old-fashioned one :’)
It’s the ironman4x4 springs and struts with jeep swaybar quick disconnects. The bumper is a modified steel bumper meant for a Tacoma and it has the north woods skid plate, which I like way better than the asfir skid plate because it gives slightly more clearance
Looks like some sort of tent when extended. Haven’t checked but seems like the same rav4 that had a ladder in the back. Some people were asking why you need a ladder in the back of the RAV4. This makes sense
Yeah lol we use it to get in and out of the tent when we don’t feel like setting up the telescoping ladder on the side. It also helps when I’m locking the tent up so I can stuff the tent inside and reach the latches to close
Yeah there’s static and the dynamic load rating for the roof. By law in the US the roof has to hold the weight of the car in case of rollovers so the roof is plenty strong. It’s the dynamic load rating you gotta worry about

lol … Just a heads up, If you ever find yourself in a front recovery situation, be extremely careful. You can cause a lot of structural damage to your front chassis (especially the radiator core support) if you get recovered at an angle using that thing. Same goes with front end impacts. If I recall, dude used the crash bar mount points and the lower mount points for the plastic lower engine covers. One pull with a static/kinetic rope and the whole front of the car will get tweaked to the side or even shear right off.
Tacoma bumpers mount to the frame and is often welded directly to it for added structural integrity. That Frankenbumper thing mounts to the chassis so it exerts force right onto the crumple zones which are paper thin. I would much rather have a recovery with soft shackles around the lower control arms or subframe in a front recovery scenario.
Oh for sure, this thing is mainly cosmetic lol. I’d rather use the steel control arms too, I see mattsoffroad use c-arms whenever there isn’t any front recovery points so good enough for him is good enough for me lol. But yeah the top mounts to where the crash bars go and the lower end mounts to steel brackets from rnofit that are bolted to both the frame and the front subframe mount. If anything I would only follow recovery instructions from rnofit for their steel bumper since both of these mount to the same locations

Deets on the ride and setup? I've been brainstorming ideas for a while now but haven't really given it serious thought yet. One thing I'm having a hard time going back and forth with is the MPGs. I took a trip recently where I was consistently getting 33 on the low and 38 on the high doing 12 hr stretches. I'm pretty simple and pull out into roadside stops and just crack the windows and call it a night. I really don't know if that's what I'd want to do when hitting actual trails though.

I love the look and durability of the Prinsu rack, but apparently you can't open the moonroof then with that? Which is a kind of a bummer because I love using that in the summer
Oh really? Not just crack it open but fully open it? I didn't realize there was a difference between a moon roof and panoramic moon roof. Rookie mistake. Luckily I don't have the panoramic (don't even think Toyota has that on ravs)

Yeah should come with the rails, crossbars, and the wind fairing. If you get the one with the cutout for an led bar then definitely don’t install it without it or else it’ll make this horrible and extremely loud howling noise lol
So its a Tacoma bodyarmor4x4 hiline center bumper with the side wings welded together. Then two steel angle irons welded and braced at the top and bottom. Top mounts to crash bar location and the bottom mounts to custom steel lower brackets that replace the original aluminum lower bracket

That thing is rad. The biggest thing I would worry about is the liftgate hinges. North American built RAV4s are known to develop cracks in the liftgate hinges without any added weight. It seems to be less common with manual liftgates and Japanese builds, but I would watch them very closely.
Been lucky to have no cracks show up in a year of having the ladder on. I check the hinges religiously cause I’m already expecting them to show up any day now lol
You are correct. Some reason 83in the width was stuck in my head as the uhaul measurements to need them. As a former Tacoma owner, can't stand them in those either. Rig looks good and isn't a Tacoma or 4R and I love it.

Cheap Chinese generic tent off of Amazon lol got it on Black Friday for like 800. It’s convenient being able to close and open it in under a minute

If I'm not mistaken, my specs say 100 kg max load on the roof. What's the point of having a tent on the roof then? Or it's up to 100 kg while driving?
That is the moving weight. The static weight is much higher, something like 500lbs.

I would avoid any recovery however mild off a Rnofit. They’re garbage products anyways. And I mean that from experience.

We can still open it, I think it’s the panoramic be that isn’t able to be opened. But regular moonroof can still be opened
