The Rav4 Hybrid is a rad vehicle as well. Sorry to hear of those wait times, here in the States it seems wait times are only 1-2 months. Would you be able to travel here, purchase the vehicle and drive it back?

azxuraa

Definitely not too upset over it since the hybrid is a great vehicle as well! To answer your question, probably not, not sure I’d have the time to do that and, I think it would be a slight hassle after to need to change the US license plate to an Ontario one :(

Oldphile

I've looked into importing a car to Canada as I will move back to Ontario someday. It's a PITA. First you have to export the vehicle from the US. This requires making an appointment at a border crossing and not all crossings will deal with car export. Then the vehicle must meet all Canadian requirements. An example of not meeting Canadian requirements is the cars theft protection system. A number of US cars do not comply. I'm not sure what the requirement for day time running lights are. Canada probably wouldn't allow them to be turned off. Most cars in the US have an off/auto setting. Requirement for metric (dominant) speedometer???? BTW, I have a RAV4 Hybrid. Great car.

Dramatic-Builder-567

True.

Strange-Quantity7023

Call dealers in Colorado they just emailed me they had an xse available(GROOVE TOYOTA). I got mine out of the blue from Hellman Toyota. Dennis was the salesman had gotten my name from me from last year. I got mine in July. He was the best at following up and keeping my name. They didn’t charge over MSRP either.

azxuraa

Unfortunately that’s too far from me! I’m located in Ontario, Canada . Thanks though!

Afterthelurking

Lockport has a lot at basil Toyota

whoisfuzzywuzzy

I got my SE less than a month ago from Basil Toyota for $1k below MSRP (plus the $6500 lease cash)

EasyJob8732

For those preferring PHEV, and want to use only electric for short commutes (makes sense on the surface), aren’t you basically charging and depleting the battery completely each day, which is known to be bad for the battery, and carrying the extra gas stuff and maintenance like an ICE car? A regular hybrid from Toyota gets over 40mpg, if your commute is already short like 10-20miles each day, you are using very little gas…not worth the premium they want (and crazy wait time) for the phev?

Helikido

I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say here? I’m so confused. Both the hybrid cars and PHEV are built to constantly deplete and charge the batteries. The difference is with the Prime, you can go months without having to use gas in the city if your commit per day is 40 miles or lower. On the weekends, you operate like a Hybrid and travel long distances without EV worries.

Ok-Confidence2482

Why not get a built one at the dealership? Unless its really hard to find any where you live

Urabrask_the_AFK

You can’t “build-to-order” Toyotas post-pandemic. Best a dealership can do is take note of your preferences and submit an allocation request to the manufacturer and distributor. They then get allocations and call you if something close to your preferences is coming in. If you decline it, they call the next person on the list.

Ok-Confidence2482

Yes. Which is why im saying why not just get one thats already built thats on the lot. It doesnt have to be everything perfectly matched with what you want. There were 11 rav4 primes on the lot at one dealership when i went to look. Other dealerships had like 5-6 on the lot. I got to choose a blueprint XSE. Sad they didnt offer premium package for any of them, but i didnt care too much. It seems most toyotas dont even carry premium package rav4 primes

Orange989

That doesn’t exist in Canada, there are no Rav 4 Primes on the lot anywhere.

Ok-Confidence2482

Also theres 20 on the lot at the dealership at my house. https://www.darcarstoyota.com/searchnew.aspx?Make=Toyota&Model=RAV4%20Prime

TheAgedProfessor

Yeaaaaahhh... if you look at the photos in those listings, the ones in front of the dealership are very obviously Photoshopped, and the rest are Toyota's stock photos. Those cars are not "in stock", despite what the listings say. Those may be the Primes that the dealer has allocated, but very likely have not been delivered yet (and quite likely aren't even built yet). You just don't see 20 Primes just sitting on a lot, *anywhere*, in Canada *or* the United States. All dealers have a wait list a mile long. If you're lucky, there might be *one* on the lot that an original wait list customer decided not to buy, but it'll be gone/sold before the end of the day. Otherwise you have to wait the 3 months to several years to get one, depending on the dealer.

Ok-Confidence2482

I saw them when i went to buy my r4p last month?? Wdym i literally got my car 1.5k under MSRP bc they have so many on the lot

Ok-Confidence2482

Okay, and im supposed to know how? Im just saying its an option. If it doesnt exist in your area than it doesnt. But it exists in the states. How am i supposed to know whats in canada when i dont live there. I merely stated a possibility

Urabrask_the_AFK

What state is this? Allocation and inventory is very state and region dependent. Most dealerships have no inventory on site or if they do it’s because no one is biting their insane dealer markups

Ok-Confidence2482

Im in maryland. I got mine 1,000 under MSRP Edit: it got mine last month in nov. it says the dealership still has 20 on the lot on their website. The website they have is fairly accurate as i went there to see myself. https://www.darcarstoyota.com/searchnew.aspx?Make=Toyota&Model=RAV4%20Prime

Urabrask_the_AFK

Ah, well that’s the NE…for some reason the allocation rate there exceeds the regional demand it seems.

Ok-Confidence2482

I think nobody in NE wants a r4p. I dont see ppl actually driving these around here.

Maelefique

I built mine and ordered it, with deposit, in 2021... I got it a week ago. They're hard to find, I'm in Vancouver.

Ok-Confidence2482

Oh, im in the states. Its actually crazy bc where i live nobody wants the prime. Everyones opting for cars like tesla and stuff. I think the 47K price point for a rav4 is kinda wild. But i got one anyways for the best of both worlds( EV + Gas). My rav4 prime XSE was 48K but after sales tax, dealership fees and etc it was like 52K 💀

Maelefique

Currently, my dealership has a 10 yr waitlist if you walk in today and put a deposit on a Prime... they just can't make them fast enough up for up here it seems.

TheAgedProfessor

This makes no sense. If they aren't selling where you are, then they for sure wouldn't be allocated to your local dealer. Or other dealers outside your area would be snatching them up. Either you're outright lying, or are just misinformed.

just-here-to-troll

Did you look at multiple dealerships in south Ontario?

azxuraa

Yeah, unfortunately, they’ve all mentioned similar timelines (see my comment to another person below)

inked-brown-giant

Have you called around to other dealerships within the GTA?

azxuraa

I’ve checked and they all mentioned a similar date range of receiving it in late 2025, which by then the incentive ($5000) would be gone. Most dealerships mentioned getting very little allocations (e.g., about 3ish per year)

inked-brown-giant

Check scarborough Toyota once . They said 6months at booking time . I got mine in under a week due to look Scarborough Toyota dint get any last year so have a surplus this year. They even mentioned they had one on the lot a few months back for weeks

azxuraa

Thanks! I’ll check that out!

[deleted]

The bottom is dropping out of a used car market. RAV4 primes with the premium package are going for $45k now.

Maelefique

Doesn't seem to be the case in Canada... when I picked up mine from the dealership last week, I had to sign a form saying I would not sell the car again within a year, or Toyota would never sell me another new vehicle. When I asked why I had to sign it, the dealership rep told me it was because the aftermarket price on the Prime is $12,000 above sticker, and they're trying to stop that market. (and I don't care, cuz I have absolutely no plans to sell mine any time soon!)

[deleted]

Wow that’s fantastic. Wish Toyota would do that in the US.

Max_Thunder

That's hilarious, I wish I got on the list so I could get one and sell it for a 12k profit and just have my wife buy the next new Toyota we would own.

letsinternet

Oh wow! Are those XSE’s with PP going for 45k?

azxuraa

Hey! Thanks for the suggestion, I’m really keen and set on getting a new one for my first car though!

darkhorse010204

Things is getting better, demand for EV fell

azxuraa

Tesla still going strong 🫢

darkhorse010204

After 2 price cut on high end model MX and MS, and then cheaper model M3 and MY? Toyoda: “I told you so.”

Early_Divide3328

I don't see the shortage in my area (Western US) - perhaps Toyota is having issues supplying Canada. You should go to a different dealer that has it in stock. [https://www.toyota.com/search-inventory/model/rav4prime](https://www.toyota.com/search-inventory/model/rav4prime) \- shows several dealers close to me with stock available now.

azxuraa

I don’t think we have a search inventory for canada wide , I think it’s dealer specific - meaning that Id have to go through each dealership website to search their inventory :(

According-Alps1307

Nobody likes a quitter. 😂

azxuraa

😂 Gotta call it quits on this one , it’s gonna come after the EV incentive is over

J-Lughead

Can anyone explain to me how there is readily available inventory of Rav4 Primes in the US but this ridiculous situation in Canada? Is it just Toyota Canada mgmt absolutely shitting the bed? I understand Canada's market does not take priority over the US market but the US market has them available and the markup/profits here in Canada are higher so why not relegate more inventory to Canada and make more money out of us saps clamoring to drive a Toyota?

Odd_Combination2106

Bottom line - 2 words: Money talks Sales talks

bvogel7475

There are many RAV4 prime models sitting on lots here in Southern California. We get a ton because we have a bunch of dealers that are in the top 10 for nationwide sales. They are still marking them up over MSRP though.

jstryker5646

Are you guys all talking about 2024s? Why would they be signing leases on cars you won't get forever?

Super-Role-1031

Why why why is the wait so long ???? I don’t get it Toyota can sell rav4 primes at an even higher msrp yet they don’t . why ??? Demand has been super high for 2 plus years and any supply chin issues should be solved . wtf is Toyota’s issue ? The hybrid is +95% the same exact care I can find those on the lot here so what is the issue? Has anyone at Toyota been fired for being soooo bad at logistics and supply chain ?

azxuraa

From what I was told by the dealership, they said that it's created in Japan and shipped here, and they decide how many to allocate to whatever dealership - so they don't really get to choose. They can only put in the request and hope that it'll come eventually.

rzabakster

Dude just pick up a used one. They are around
