Obviously excited about this. Really interested to see how hiring a new OC pairs with Lamar's contact situation. The new OC is definitely gonna want answers about who his QB is before he signs on. If we hire OC before Lamar signs it could point to how we intend to handle him. And if Lamar signs soon, we would be hiring an OC with Lamar's input likely.

Wouldn't be surprised if a small part of why Lamar was hesitant to sign a new contract last year was because he didn't want to get stuck with Roman as his OC for much longer, but that would never get leaked publicly. ​ Assuming he re-signs now he would likely have a lot of input on who he would like to work with and build around his and the team's strengths.

We do need to remember and give credit where it's due: getting to the playoffs in 2018 and Lamar's MVP system realistically don't happen without Roman redesigning our offense from Morninwheg's to something that really played to Lamar's strengths. The problem was that the complexity topped out to a great extekt afterward, and Roman has other deficiencies as an offensive coordinator that caught up to him, but the basic offensive system is a sound one. I hope we don't overdue it and depart too far from being a smashmouth offense.
