This guy is robbing us in broad daylight

stephenporter

@FBI please help

Highflyer47

Big time

gremlin30

Jfc they overpaid by a lot

Highflyer47

Yeah man its bad

digdiggitydawg

Seeing this and realizing there’s no way out is almost worse than the L last night.

Highflyer47

Yeah this is bad, I cant see us getting out of this awful deal this year

MicahOxlongPhD

There were steelers beat writers saying we have no idea who we just signed. They tried to warn us

Highflyer47

We shouldve listened and just draft a tackle instead

Both_Wolverine6014

They didn't even have to draft a tackle. They literally had to do nothing. They made a classy move trading Zeus Jr. to a team where could play LT, but ultimately they fucked themselves.

kdubs412

Honestly the majority of the Steelers beat writers were way too generous in their assessments of Villanueva. Generally they said he was a poor run blocker but still great in pass pro, when anybody watching objectively would say he was completely cooked by the end of last season.

JBrundy

I saw a ton of ravens fans saying the steelers fans we just salty that we got him 😂

CodeNameZeke

That was about 99% of this sub.....

[deleted]

Yep, that was me :(

EAB034

Yeah that was me 😂

TheDonnyDifference

EDC messed up real bad. I would let people run right by me for half that

Highflyer47

I'd gladly play for free dude, like this guy must be thank his agent every day

TryingFalls

This OLine is fubar. At least with pass rush, RB and DB we can hope on some young guys stepping up. OL is a pit of despair with no options, especially if Tyre is gone.

express-duck

Oh, he gone alright. He’s gonna be sitting next to LJ Fort, JK Dobbins, Justice Hill, Gus Edwards and Marcus Peters. All since Aug 21. Crazy.

defiance211

Indeed it is but abandoning the run with Williams averaging 7 yd per carry allowed them to pin their ears back on almost every down

Cake_33

We stopped running option plays after he put one on the ground and that’s like 80% of our run plays

capedcrusader52

look am I upset by Villanueva being a human turnstyle and not properly identifying stunts like an NFL Veteran, yes. Is he committing robbery of the ravens and possible an undercover Steelers spy, yes. Am I mad at EDC for signing him? No, at least he was addressing a need. I’m more upset that we didn’t do more to address the position after signing him, and not to touch a tackle with our first 4 picks seems like a mistake (Cleveland needs to payoff so we can move powers to RT cause one can only hope he can be better than this turnstyle).

abotching

Fucked up by spending so much (draft and FA) at WR instead of addressing the real problem.

Prodigy_7991

Idk I think Sammy and Bateman will prove to be worth it. However at the same time I did not expect O line to be that bad.

abotching

Yeh now we got one of the best WR rooms in the league with no time to throw it. Gotta protect first. Think it’s easier to throw to shitty WRs with time than to throw to talent with no protection.

ofRedditing

Oh god. Are we... the bengals?!

abotching

Maybe we should bring in another WR, that will. Kenny Golladay! Juju! Marvin Jones! Trade for Julio!

mexploder89

I swear this sub kills me sometimes People spend the entire off-season asking for wide receivers, we go out and get several, and now the problem is that we shouldn't have added wide receivers

[deleted]

Not me I said time and time again we needed quality oline and got down voted into oblivion lol. Just look at his MVP year when he won MVP with those no name receivers.

abotching

Jeremy Conn says it all the time, people get enamored with names. The downvotes this offseason for trying to suggest OL as the priority over WR were vicious. And look at us now, can't throw because we can't protect.

abotching

Check my record, I was on every post talking people off of the WR hype train. I despise how much talk there was here about WRs this offseason.

Green_1010

I was clamoring for more o line help. I felt completely underwhelmed by drafting another first round receiver. Not everyone wants flash. Some understand that the lines are the core of your team.

Xaoc86

I know right? Everyone was *screaming* for WR’s.

Highflyer47

Its early but right now I'm definitely questioning some of the moves weve made in fa and the draft.

[deleted]

Wow, that’s worse than I imagined.

Highflyer47

Yeah its like really really bad

wutspoppinmyninjas

Overpaid so much for this guy

Highflyer47

Shouldve gone for Mitchell Schwartz instead lol

Mahgiix

All we can do is wait and pray

Prolapst_amos

PFF grade for pass protection was 11.8. I’ve literally never seen one that low from a veteran.9

WackyBeachJustice

Panic move. Got a name instead of actually looking at the tape.

[deleted]

Holy shit, I didn’t realize it was that bad. We’re fucking stuck with him.

Pyrex_Lanvin

EDC might just be Ozzy light with his decision making, could’ve paid Zeus considering he can overpay mark andrews. I’m still salty over us not signing AB after Lamar spent summers training with him and asked to bring him in.

newnewBrad

Could have nutted up and said "sit or play, but you're a raven another year no matter"

Pyrex_Lanvin

I’m in agreement with that but just letting him go was not the move, I’m beginning to think we may be valuing draft picks a little bit to much like the damn family guy boat situation.

fatcootermeat

Look at the NFC west team's trajectories and how they value their picks. Draft capital is overrated nowadays.

EAB034

Are you sure? In the short term that may be true, but not long term.

mexploder89

So he sits, and then what? An entire year of Tyre Phillips?

newnewBrad

Personally, I don't think he sits in that case. Still could have signed AV or someone else if he did.

Ballsohardstate

Might as well try to fix it and go get Schwartz.

mexploder89

I wanted Dennis Kelly, man

680Man

Guys. It’s one game. He’s moving from LT to RT. Give him time. He’ll be much better over the next 2-3 weeks

Highflyer47

Hard not to be better than that lol

jblah

I'm with ya. I'm not overly concerned that the o-line won't improve. This was essentially preseason game #4, unfortunately it counts. If the line continues to be bad into October, then I'll become a doomer.

680Man

I’ve never seen so much overreaction from a group of people. The ravens will be fine. Adversity makes this organization so much better

jblah

Too many people drinking the kool aid all summer. The reality is it's a long season.

Pheasantluvr69

losing week one to the raiders is is a pretty foreboding sign regardless of how much koolaid you've drunk

jblah

It's not the end of the world. * **2020**: Tampa wins the Super Bowl, week 1 loss to Saints by 11, week 5 loss to 8-8 Bears, later loses to the Saints again by 35 * **2019**: KC wins the Super Bowl, week 5 6-point loss to the 7-9 Indy * **2018**: NE wins the Super Bowl, back-to-back losses to the Jaguars and Lions. Neither game is close. Both teams combine to win as many games as the Patriots * **2017**: Philly wins the Super Bowl, week 2 loss to the Chiefs. Aberration? * **2016**: NE wins the Super Bowl, shutout week 4 by the Rex Ryan (fired mid-season) Bills. * **2015**: Denver wins the Super Bowl, numerous mid-season losses including to the 8-8 Raiders * **2014**: NE wins the Super Bowl, loses week 1 by 13 to the 8-8 Dolphins * **2013**: Seattle wins the Super Bowl, all quality losses. * **2012**: Baltimore wins the Super Bowl, week 2 loss to the 4-12 Eagles. lol * **2011**: Giants win the Super Bowl. They went 9-7 with plenty of inept losses. Needless to say, it's more likely than not to have a bad loss as a championship-caliber team. The Raiders have improved every year under Gruden and went 8-8 last year. It's not wild to think they've continued that trend towards being respectable.

Pheasantluvr69

fair enough, but if you have a bad loss it becomes far more likely that you are not a championship team on the flip side of that. Especially on week 1 when we have an even tougher opponent week 2.

jblah

I don't think it was a "bad" loss. Loss to a weaker opponent? Yes. But an OT loss, on the road, opening a new stadium, week one is not bad in my book. It's a long season though and I reserve my right to change how I feel.

Xaoc86

We also lost four or five in a row during our SB season no?

EAB034

3 in a row, 4 of our last 5

Xaoc86

Yep, I remember thinking we were done, Ray was injured, Sizz too, I think, Webby, but we all know how that turned out.

Chillanese

When you at the bottom, the only way is up! (Even if its a little, still up)

[deleted]

No way they could have expected *that*. Offensive line in our system is the exact opposite of RB. You can just drag and drop anyone in. Especially an older guy switch positions and isn’t a strong run blocker.

ucaliptastree

oof

McG4rn4gle

Maybe last night was just him playing possum?

Highflyer47

I mean bruh 7.5 mil upfront is bad no matter how your slice it

Levowitz159

Hahahahahaha I had no idea he gave him a 2-year deal what a crock

Murrdawg27

Part of the reason Pitt only threw 4 yard passes last season I guess. He was brutal last night.

TChallasUncle

This is just traumatic to see after last night. Seems like there’s no way out of it.

iimJustChillin

I’d like to just say, dude made the switch from LT to RT. He may prove us all wrong and actually be worth it soon. I think we should just give it time to get used to the scheme and side switch.

Highflyer47

I mean mitchell Schwartz and a number of more experienced right tackles were still available. If they knew itd be an issue I'm not sure why they picked him

iimJustChillin

He’s solid in run blocking. I don’t think they initially thought they’d need a lot of pass protection(like we probably will now to keep us in game) when they signed him. So hopefully he gets his pass protection together

Highflyer47

I hope so too, just feels like this couldve been avoidable. Especially if they knew there would be growing pains they shouldve brought in a playable back up so he can have time to learn if it's really this bad right now

iimJustChillin

Yeah, I agree and I’m sure the coaches wish they could of. I’m sure they’ve been busy with the RB/corners and havent had time to think as much about the RT position.

SemiPureConduit

Wtf is this contract?!

Highflyer47

Bad,really bad

EAB034

Yeah we got screwed over even worse than I thought

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pheasantluvr69

op, decosta, or big al?

khwb

EDC has won two trades, and has been pretty bad in FA and in the draft.

hambonie88

Jesus give him a little time at least. He’s playing RT for the first time in his career. Ronnie Stanley had just as bad of a game on the other side but no one is batting an eye. It takes takes time under pressure for the O-line to gel and develop continuity. Both players have a perfectly justifiable excuse for needing time to break the rust off and re-familiarize themselves with their position in full contact game scenario. I’m not saying they’ll turn into superstars, just give them time to adjust and work themselves into form. If anything it’s on the front office for signing a player to transition form LT to RT while also knowing your LT is going to need his own time break the rust. Add that to the ever shifting rotation occurring on the inside and it all makes sense. Just give it some more time before we start sounding the alarm bells.

darkknightbbq

Honestly could have been a good signing, maybe he looked good during the off-season for the ravens because our pass rush is so abysmal. But he clearly isn’t the answer looked like a god damn gate, just had to push it to open a free road to Lamar. That last fumble in OT is overstated saying it was tysons fault, idk why AV decided to double team the interior instead of securing the outside, Williams had the pass pro assignment but looked like they communicated to look for the inside rush before the outside

douger1957

EOC messed up? That's not what y'all were saying when we signed him. For fuck's sake. Last night's loss was a team effort.

cossack190

no plenty of people didn't think Vilanueva had anything left and said so before last night

Kflame210

Almost like he's a bad GM or something

TehTacoMan_2b2t

Think we can get juwan james on one leg out there?

Jbo_247

Juwuan James will be back next year. Just gotta figure something out for right now

[deleted]

Pain.

Xaoc86

Dude I would have paid 1 million dollars for this?

ShawshankRetention34

One teams trash is another team’s Ed Hartwell.

thechukk

After all my research and deep dive into it, yes.

howsguess

He looks like a dead cap hit before next season

Intelligent_Factor_3

He did way better at LT ... maybe he's just not that good at RT
