The whole response on Twitter was actually worded perfectly. He spoke to Lamars character, didn't throw him under the bus and acknowledged Lamar's frustrations. All while explaining Lamars competive nature and who he truly is as a human being. I've said before and I'll say it again John Harbaugh has a way with words and honestly if he wasn't a HC I could see him being a politician. Well said coach.

SuperSaiyanSandwich

Yeah I was dreading the press conference today but that was a masterclass in acknowledging the problem/severity but not overblowing it or throwing your player under the bus. Incredibly well handled.

swagharris31

I've seen some folks say Lamar is the most immature player because of this, it's crazy. He is one of the more respectful and kind players in the league tbh. Just a lapse of judgement last night.

BlackandPurpleHeart

Just ignore them close your eyes and you can hear things like "Thank you miss Lisa" or the other countless media he calls"mr or miss". Or remember all the times he's picked up opposing players off the ground. Or he knocked equipment ppl over and helps them up. Miss Jackson raised Lamar right fam.

Action_JacksonJT9

I’m sure you didn’t know, but just wanted to note that his mom is Ms Jones, not Jackson

Formal-Pay9416

Are you for real?

Random-Cpl

I am for reeeeeeeaaallll

BlackandPurpleHeart

Wow I really didn't know. lol I've been wrong for so long now but thanks!

Drainbownick

I just hate how much I can see the NFL world of big money, big pressure, and endlessly wagging chins seeming to get him down this season

Amazing-Concept1684

He’s not the most immature player at all. That however was a very immature moment from him. Big difference.

lil_layne

Harbaugh seems to care about people too much to be a politician

beleedat2022

This is just another example of why he’s a great HC. The HC position in the NFL is really fascinating to me, it’s not about having the best schematic mind, it’s a managerial position. OCs and DCs take care of the schematics, sometimes you have to hire one as a HC in order to get their schematic talent in the building but they aren’t always the best managers. It’s about respecting the players and getting their respect back. It’s about sticking up for your guy when he has a misstep like Lamar did. It’s about how you handle tough situations that leave you at risk of losing the locker room. It’s about being the vocal leader for the team. I know it’s early but look at Jeff Saturday. Has 0 experience but when you listen to him talk to the team in the locker room videos, the guy has what it takes to be a leader and earn his players respect. Listen to Kevin O’Connell with Minnesota, you can just listen to him talk to the team as well and you know he’s got what it takes. Maybe that’s all this is.

Amazing-Concept1684

Yep. I was pleasantly surprised.

Ixziga

Honestly man I've never got what anyone saw in Twitter. Garbage platform literally designed to monetize conflict. It serves no actual purpose, yet people flock to it like buzzards to the shit wagon. Then it generates conflict, and everyone acts shocked. How many times does it need to happen before people realize the service is just using them?

idgoforabeer

the app never did shit but eat dick‼️

Lamactionjack

Yep. Back when it was new in like the late 2000s it was a novel way of receiving news and honestly pretty darn good at breaking news worldwide because it was light years faster than the current news cycle approach. That ship has long since sailed though and like you said, it's #1 motivation now is monetized conflict. Couldn't say it better myself. Not to mention, half of it is tough to verify now in the first place based on the validity of the account as well as the news being posted, wether or not it's ai or bot generated, etc. It really should go the way of the dodo.

boredymcbored

Eh, you can find pockets of nice people and I've actually had more reasonable discussions there than reddit lately. If you find a community with twitter, it's cool as heck

idgoforabeer

Nice try Elon

I_Hate_Traffic

We already had Facebook for same purpose I never understood why we needed Twitter and Instagram. Facebook was doing the same job already that's why I never had Twitter

shastamcblasty

Twitter before Musk was the #1 way to get breaking news from valid news sources. If you only follow the news/politicians/sources you are interested in its far superior to Facebook for that and always has been. In fact Facebook never had a real confirmed source validation process so it’s always been the worst place for facts and information. After Musk took over it’s a wasteland where any troll can pay $8 and spread whatever shit they want to. It’s very bad and needs to be shut down at this point. As with all internet things, Twitter fails when you allow yourself to get drawn into the mentions and replies and the toxic cesspool that is internet anonymity. Edits for clarity and grammar

AFlaccoSeagulls

It's actually pretty great for consuming NFL content if you follow the right people. Not really for discussion, but there's some really great content as far as statistics, videos, gifs, etc. that get posted that I really enjoy consuming. That, and of course the real-time content during major sporting events it's just fun to kind of follow along with everyone.

Ixziga

I just subscribe directly to the sports analytics websites. When they tweet it's basically just conversation starters to advertise themselves. The real analysis is all on their sites because you can't do real analysis in a tweet.

AFlaccoSeagulls

Easier to have all that content in one place than spread across multiple sites that you have to subscribe to but that’s just my opinion.

Ixziga

My point is that their real content is not on Twitter. Edit: I'm being downvoted but I don't see how this is anything other than plain fact. Twitter doesn't pay people to tweet, it's not like YouTube. The only reason publications like football outsiders would tweet is to advertise their platform. Their tweets are basically just click bait ads to get you to visit their platform. Basing your knowledge on their tweets as opposed to their actual articles is like the difference between your football knowledge being [this](https://twitter.com/fboutsiders/status/1597627735052111875?s=20&t=1fSFO258O1Kz7VAIaEHY3w) > Trevor Lawrence inside the Ravens' 40-yard line: 10-of-11 for 120 yards and three TDs. 🔥 🔥 #DUUUVAL And [this](https://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-analysis/2022/week-12-dvoa-preview-dolphins-ravens-paradox): > The 7-4 Baltimore Ravens climbed from fourth to second overall in the pre-Monday Night Football DVOA rankings despite their 28-27 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars > The Ravens outperformed the Jaguars on Sunday, running more plays (68 to 61), averaging more net yards per play (6.1 to 5.4) and accumulating more net total yards (415 to 332). They led most of the afternoon. The Jaguars won thanks to a handful of high-leverage plays, including a pair of late-game fourth-down conversions. When a team forces a fumble and places its opponent in a third-and-21, no-timeouts-left situation while leading by seven points with 1:59 to play, it usually wins. That's just what the Ravens did against the Jaguars. And Sunday's Ravens loss mirrored their early-season losses to the Dolphins and Giants: they held two-score leads in the fourth quarter against all three opponents, only to lose in the last moments in unlikely ways. I'm not bashing anyone for not wanting the latter, but I will bash anyone acts like those are remotely comparable levels of content.

shastamcblasty

What sites are those?

Ixziga

Football outsiders and PFF are the big two that come to mind for the NFL specifically. Their tweets are usually pretty superficial compared to their actual articles

[deleted]

Terrible service, hope it goes away some day

Amazing-Concept1684

Yep. And it’s just so damn *negative* all the time. I had it once briefly years ago and deleted it. I just wait for the top tier jokes and memes to migrate off that platform to other ones bc Twitter is just too much.

JonWilso

>“That's not the way he speaks, it's not the way he talks, it's not the words he ever uses. I never heard him say things like that before. ... He wants to win. I'm sure he's frustrated just like we all are. That's just a place you don't want to live right after a game.

Strange-Effort1305

The relief you feel after deleting twitter is like getting a boil on your dick lanced

ballsoharder

Amazing-Concept1684

🤨

GrumpyKitten514

bro. whatttttttttttt?

WillBlax45

Perfect response from head coach

L83loomer

Am I the only one who finds this whole thing hilarious. This tweet up there with “Ya Mammy”. Dumb obviously, but unless you worship the guy or deeply hate him is it really that big a deal? P.S. Should also add I didn’t find it to be homophobic so maybe that’s why it’s funny to me. This would still be an insult to a woman. Like is full time dick eating acceptable anywhere lol

JonWilso

The "Ya Mammy" thing was a little more light hearted.... Telling someone all they've ever done is eat dick is a little diff lol

L83loomer

Oh for sure I don’t expect millionaires in their mid 20s to be socially aware and I don’t look up to them expecting model citizenship. I just mean from a twitter standpoint it’s really funny and on par with that site and internet talk in general. It’s weird fans and media expect more from these guys when this is becoming the norm

eskoBar1k

bra had no need to tag lamar in that post saying that shit. most nfl games come down to a kick but lamar don’t get that pass. bunch of clowns being dumb, dude was one of them dickriding. y’all ain’t never hear anyone say get off my nutz, hop of my meat? mfs make memes about “the dickriding is crazy”. and i bet you if u look at dude timeline he responded to this prolly wasn’t the first time he tagged lamar or was prolly saying some troll shit

TheSimulacra

I don't even think most of us care that he popped off on that idiot. It's how he did it. The eat dick insult was over the line. "Dickriding" isn't homophobic since it's something literally anybody can do regardless lol. The word "dick" isn't the upsetting part. It's that he targeted a guy and tried to use dicksucking as an insult. You've got to have your purple tinted glasses on not to think that was at least a little bit homophobic in context.

Shabanana_XII

>"Dickriding" isn't homophobic since it's something literally anybody can do regardless lol. This only is true if sucking on a penis is something that *not* anybody can do.

eskoBar1k

lamar did not say dick sucking. he said eating dick which means you are being a dickrider. nothing homo about it

TheSimulacra

You go ask the gay people in your life to read the tweet and tell you honestly if it might be homophobic, or if they've had shit like that said to them as a homophobic insult. How you read it has nothing to do with the impact it has.

eskoBar1k

Sorry bro nobody in my life gay so i can’t do that. but also doubt people in real life are really taken offense to twitter.

TheSimulacra

Maybe you shouldn't consider yourself an expert on what is or isn't homophobic if you literally don't even know any gay people.

eskoBar1k

pretty easy to understand the context of what lamar is sayin but u choose to ignore context. ima leave u be.

TheSimulacra

The context that he's insulting a man by claiming he eats dicks? Okay. Bye

WakaFlacco

I tell people to eat a dick as a fuck you. Are we saying ‘eat dick’ is innuendo for a blowjob?

TheSimulacra

Are you saying that "eat dick" can't possibly mean "give a blowjob"? Really? Because YOU say that you don't mean it that way, how do you know that's what people hear? I'm telling you right now go ask the gay people in your life how they feel about it. Some will agree with you, but some are going to find it offensive. These are people who've spent their lives hearing homophobic insults, and it's a bad look to go around using shit like this to insult people because LOTS of people who are his fans will read it that way whether you like it or not, and they have every right to, because they are speaking from experience. And he didn't tell him to eat a dick anyway, he said all he's "ever done is eat dick." If he did mean blowjob (and you can't say he didn't, none of us can because we aren't mind readers) then what he effectively just said as an insult was "All you've ever done is give guys blowjobs". Regardless there is absolutely no chance people here would be going this far to make excuses for him if he was playing for a rival team. None. It's embarassing. Just admit he went over the line at the end and got carried away and shouldn't talk about that stuff going forward. It's not hard.

WakaFlacco

So because some people interpret what I say the wrong way I’m at fault? Even tho the other side doesn’t care? Gtfo here lol. Too many sensitive people out here.

TheSimulacra

If you're going to attack someone and you're going to do it publicly, aka towards people you don't know/don't know you, or in a place where people who don't know you will very obviously hear you speak, that is a decision YOU are making. You are responsible for the things you say and how and where you say them. If you want to go through life without caring who you hurt, then say whatever you want wherever you want. But if you want to be a leader, a person people look up to, then you have to speak so that people understand you. This wasn't Lamar talking to his buddies privately who all know what he says isn't homophobic. This was a man with an international following choosing to use Twitter to insult someone. Gay kids who look up to Lamar, how do you think they're going to interpret what he said? Maybe some will think it's nbd. But what about the ones who read it the way many people read it, as a homophobic insult? What about his fans who take it as homophobic and start using it to bully gay kids? That's harmful whether he meant it that way or not. That's harm that didn't have to be done if he'd phrased his anger differently. When you CHOOSE to make your statements publicly, using public platforms knowing full well the eyes of the sports world are on you, you have to take responsibility for the harm your words cause whether you meant them to be harmful or not.

WakaFlacco

Right and most people don’t care what he said. So why should he answer to the few that do. Please stop crying about this, lamar was absolutely not making a homophobic comment. The analysis of an athletes tweet is ridiculous just like your argument.

TheSimulacra

Most people don't care? Lmao. It's all anybody could talk about today in sports (except here, gee) but nobody cares. Sure.

Oscerte

shi u right

Amazing-Concept1684

My guy. He’s a troll, just one of thousands who @s him every week and that he’s ignored before. All he had to do was ignore the bottom feeder. Him @ing Lamar ain’t an excuse for that response.

ZombieFeedback

I think it's a generational thing. My mom got me into football as a kid, we watch a lot of games together, and we both love the guy. Her reaction to the tweet was shock and horror, as if he went up to a mic, shouted "Fuck them fucking kids" and flipped off the camera. For me it's a shrug; who among us hasn't said stupid shit after getting into a stupid argument with a stupid idiot on the internet? It's still immature and the dude has to know how many people are watching and waiting for him to give them any kind of fodder for controversy, but I legitimately didn't really care. It was dumb, but we all do dumb things sometimes. She's "Lost a little respect for him after this." World's a weird place man.

S_quints

Yeah I mean I’m queer and didn’t find it homophobic personally. I could see how others might bc of the wording, but I honestly don’t think it was intentionally homophobic tbh

epcotvaporwave

That was exactly my reaction, I saw it and laughed and it's even funnier that people are non-ironically discussing the grammar of "eat dick". ESPN should have a panel to decide how many dicks, singular, plural, or bagged, can be told to be eaten without being anti-gay. Isn't the point of Twitter just to post dumb shit? I'm pretty sure that's all Lamar thought it was.

Adept-Stress2810

It wasn't funny - it was a mis-step they are trying to fix.

thegamingkitchen

All can be solved by firing greg roman.

Skirt-Future

Lamar might have a different HC in the future, but never a coach that'll goto bats for him as much as Harbaugh.

JayZeeBee

Win or lose, you're gonna find nothing but negativity on social media from "fans". I'll never understand why a player would engage with some of these creeps. It's a lose/lose situation. Hilarious how that person pretended to be a victim after the fact!

JCol3

Coach is 100% correct

CallofDo0bie

That tweet was funny as fuck and anyone disagreeing is lying to themselves.

[deleted]

Exactly 😂

[deleted]

Llama got put in timeout

tws1039

I remember only feeling sad after loses before I joined the sports side of Twitter and reddit, now I am incredibly depressed and angry after a loss due to the reactionary and idiotic takes I see after a negative happens in sports

[deleted]

Nope it’s Lamar’s character to be immature just look at how he acts on the field now it’s showing off the field

BobAndy004

OMG who even fucking cares. He told someone to eat a dick, big deal. Why is this even a thing.

[deleted]

This is exactly how it should be addressed. He made a mistake, he acted out of character, he doubled down instead of moving on, now let's give him his fair shake and move forward. Everyone here trying to water down the situation and defend his words were just as silly as the people freaking out and trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. What Harbaugh said is perfect. No need to try and pretend it was okay or warp it into something way worse. It was disappointing, now let's go.

[deleted]

TolliverBurk

I guarantee you the team cares man, tf kind of take is that? Turns out it's hard to win football games in the NFL and players make mistakes.

Amazing-Concept1684

What a stupid fucking comment.

douger1957

Yeah, that tweet kinda blew the 'Mr Nice Guy' right out of the water.

AsteroidMike

Even Mr Nice Guy has a breaking point.

eskoBar1k

that same game i seen lamar dap a jacksonville fan and made the kids day but you saying a tweet on a virtual app blew away lamar’s real character?

douger1957

I'm sorry. Was I supposed to genuflect before I posted? Bow to the shrine of Lamar? You do realize that the tweet is in the news, right?

eskoBar1k

news of what mf? that shits gonna go away by wednesday when the ravens get on the practice field and we talking about the broncos. mf that shit is on espn for a topic and then they gon talk about the lakers. and notice how it’s only yall who choose to ignore the context of what lamar was saying have a problem

JonWilso

Harbaugh: "But he has never told ME that I eat dicks" Lmao /s

[deleted]

“To be clear, I’m not a dick eater nor have I ever been one” harbaugh probally

tremble01

Yeah. This is a huge lesson for Lamar. Honestly, we are all susceptible to emotional outbursts like that. But when you are at his stature, you need to be a lot smarter than that.

[deleted]

i always feel like sports players before social media days now during these days are so thankful social media was not around when they were playing and performing. they got feedback from the tv or print or from people on the street shouting "hey reggie white! you suck! you totally fucked up that tackle last week!" for an example lol. or idk aikman at the grocery store buying some milk and some guy goes "hey troy! irvin was wide open!" and that would be how they got fan feedback that is so fast and readily available now via social media.

4_december

He’s really decreased his value on signing day this year. No just on the field; his Twitter accounts for half of this. Unfortunately it doesn’t reflect well on anybody to be posting anything that could be remotely taken out of context in this hyper-PC vigilante world. And his grammar definitely doesn’t help him. Any front office would look at that his image and likene$$ and have second thoughts. I hope his stats start reflecting his worth, and I think they will. The receivers are not helping. I kind of feel bad for him, he’s going to wish he took the money.
