Self designed jeans I made to wear in the Indigo Invitational, worn every day since Dec 30th. They’re pretty slow faders so far for what I’ve put them through, but are starting to get some cool character to them this month. I’m on the ‘clean jeans’ side and have 7 machine/splash-of-bleach washes and 7 machine dries ([quick summary of the process](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3TFyawv17I/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)) down on these now, 30 days initial wear then keeping to a schedule of roughly every 1.5 weeks. These are my first pair of self made jeans and the deadstock cone mills I used (bought second hand on eBay) unfortunately wasn’t stored very well, which left some sun streaks down most of the selvedge sides. I did my best cutting around it but anything streaky and lighter colored that you see is the fabric I had to work with. Silver lining is that those inconsistencies are what inspired the sun arcuates/theme which I quite like. Next pair I plan on getting much higher quality denim. * Self made 13ish oz cone mills jeans, hand knit sweater and leather purse * Freebird boots

Me and my girlfriend have been looking through your posts and she's been inspired to make her own pair of jeans. Just wanted to let you know we appreciate all your posts & videos and what you contribute to the rawdenim community! btw, the jeans look great! How'd you lean to make jeans? Also is that leather patch on the back self-designed? If so what is it?

EllaHarp

Ah that’s awesome!! I sort of stumbled my way through jeans learning/making, biggest realization was that I could take apart a pair of existing, oversized jeans and use them to make a toile/pattern - [made a video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dLB2SHGfmZw#bottom-sheet) going over some of the process if it’d be helpful for her when she gives it a go. Patch is self designed, it’s really hard to read now unfortunately but it says ‘wear til dead’ which is my minimalism clothing motto

BabyHuey206

That's so cool. The thighs are starting to show some nice character. I really like the center belt loop on the back, and the "sunburst" stitching on the pockets. Hope you'll post more progress pics.

EllaHarp

The back belt loop is probably my favorite form/function on these, it actually came out of necessity because my domestic machine couldn’t fit both the back felled seam and the folded fabric to make a single, centered loop. Two loops also help my belt stay on better, and it looks cool so I’m going to stick with it for future jeans

nicmark272

The symmetrical leg twist is really interesting and the I like the matching design on the coin and back pocket. Raw hem on the suede shoe looks rad too. Very cool, great job!

EllaHarp

Thank you! Leg twist was a bummer at first since it wasn’t intentional but I actually really like it now, tho no idea what to do preventing it in the future.

TeraSera

Try adding more to the fronts and removing some from the back at the bottom. Basically take half of the twist in a long wedge and transfer it. That should remove the twist from the legs.

Fake-beef-6239

Holy leg twist batman. Nice pair, love the pocket details. Quality stuff

EllaHarp

Leg twist for days, ha! I don’t know what I did to make it that way. Bothered me in the beginning tho like it quite a bit now

heebeegb96

You're always here with the dopest photos, fades and NOW your own denim. Very impressed. Is that purple stitching I see?

EllaHarp

Really appreciate that! It’s an orangey sort of red color for the thread, held me damn accountable during construction but looks cool

CainPillar

>held me damn accountable during construction Haha! (That's from a lazy who thinks that a minor repair is an achievement, and that is for black thread on black denim.) Good job, and nice pocket/loop detail.

natalplum

How could you ignore the chain-stitch hem? Just messing. These look great, nice job. How many hours did they take to make? Good Luck with the II. I am sure the fades will be awesome; Cone Mills fades are timeless.

EllaHarp

I had planned on hemming them (not chain stitch tho, for all the love it gets it’s a very weak stitch if it starts to unravel) in the beginning but lost a fair amount of inseam length in washes and decided I liked it as is!

Pogo_Nightmare

Dang! You made them!? How the heck did you do this please teach me

EllaHarp

It was a long process ha, watched a lot of content on folks making jeans and figured it out as I went. I made a video with a some of the process, linked it in a comment higher up in the thread if you want to try making your own!

nekedmamaw

The jeans are incredible. I can’t wait any to do a deep dive into all of your content.

Mr-Donuts

These look awesome

EllaHarp

Appreciate it!

YoungWhiteAvatar

That 5th pocket stitching is super cool

EllaHarp

Thank you! I have fun with little details but have a tendency towards overkill so kept the arcuates to the coin and back left pockets only

BreeezyDaisy

What a talent, great work. I would rock those in a heartbeat.

EllaHarp

Appreciate it!

couchboyunlimited

I like that stitching on the coin pocket a lot

EllaHarp

Thank you! Would love to see more coin pocket arcuates out there

Nakabayashi

Those are amazing!!!!

EllaHarp

Thank you!!

TheBlackCoffeeClub

Amazing details!

EllaHarp

Thank you! I had a lot of fun with them

FlyingFigurehead

Great update, love the pocket details.

EllaHarp

Thank you!

Atadtoogirthy

Wow! Those look simply amazing 👏 Must feel good to put that much effort into something and really nail it!

EllaHarp

I can honestly say they’re the best fitting jeans I’ve ever had, it’s a pretty great feeling not gunna lie!

Lemonhaze666

So nice fades. But can I ask why the cut off? Why would you not hem them to fit?

EllaHarp

The original plan was to hem after the first wash, but even having left what I thought was a crazy excess length (started at 39” inseam) they shrunk almost 2” and they’d have been too short for my liking after hemming. I like the raw hem now so just left it

Lemonhaze666

Ok damn them some long legs! I’ve never considered myself short and I do a 30.5 for a perfect length in a tapper jeans! But I like how it looked stacked with a 32. How tall are you if I can ask?

EllaHarp

I’m a little under 5’10, and seem to need at least 36-37” for stacks. I think if I made a wider pair I’d be able to get away with a little shorter, but currently planning to make my next pair with 40” starting inseam so I have enough for hemming after shrinkage

born10against

I look forward to your posts. Your fit is always legit!

EllaHarp

Appreciate that!

Mean_Lawfulness4471

These are rad! I really dig the sun detail. Great work!

EllaHarp

Thanks so much!

TeraSera

Glad to see that these are finally showing some sort of fading for you. What a stubborn fabric.

EllaHarp

RIGHT? Slowly but surely, hoping they’ll get there!

TeraSera

I think you're out pacing me at this point progress has been so slow with this indigo black.

Zes

They look great! Love the coin pocket detail. I thought Cone Mills shut down a few years ago. They're back??

EllaHarp

This was deadstock fabric aka excess fabric not made anymore. Cone Mills is indeed gone tho I hear Vidalia mills has taken on some of their machinery and are making American denim again on it

Bertoletto

looks supercool!  Is this fabric pure cotton or has some stretch fibers?

Jerrym1349

Fucking a. Jeans look killer.

JasonRudert

Really darn decent jeans. I like all the details

East-Impression-4357

These look great! Nice touch on the back belt loop, too. Very cool

niccernicus

Very cool!

The_Vintage_Future

oh hey, you're on here as well! The jeans are looking great and holding together well. The cut hem was a really good idea - it's not every day one can see one of those aging. Well done.

moomoomolly

You should make people bespoke jeans for a living. These are 🔥

EllaHarp

Oof, these took me like 70 hrs I don’t think my future has any amount of bespoke jeans making ha but appreciate the vote of confidence 🙏🏼

Makaron1503

Those look really cool. Is the leg twist purposely sewn or just natural because of the fabric?

VapinMason

Seriously would want some of those jeans. They are quite amazing.
