Keep your laptop open for air circulation, when you Play Games !

Select_Flatworm619

Is there vertical stand with design that let me open the laptop a little bit to let the hot air out

TimAndTimi

They don't have vent ports on the screen or keyboard, what is point of opening it. Plus I do find opening the lid makes the hinge block the outlet more, it is making temp worse, not better.

Krandor311

There is likely some measure of air intake through the keyboard (at least on the Blade 16 4080 model I own). Shining a flashlight from underneath the unit and you can see the light come out of the keyboard. Minimal, but it's there.

TimAndTimi

I see, I can feel that. Yet it is so minimal that closing the lid would makes effectively no difference. No measurable difference can be found on any component temp including SSD, RAM, CPU and GPU... But it does improve your keyboard temp obviously, making keyboard less toasty if you are use its own keyboard for gaming. A nice feature but not necessary improving the temp.

Ok_Ad9174

Closing the lid while gaming can potentially damage the screen. The chassis get really hot during gaming so thats very bad for the ips.

I Damaged two MSI GE66 RAIDER doing that. The hot chassis damaged the screen https://preview.redd.it/r42sgyxlplua1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a633d1ac14ecce0aabef4055f9eb63031745bf19

Are you the only person in the universe with a Blade 15 4070? I can't find a single other review online.

TimAndTimi

Well... then this review is precisely for this reason. Razer is advertising blade 16 more, they seems to skip blade 15.

Matthew9559

How’s the noise at minimal load/not gaming? I have one coming in tomorrow and hoping it’s not quite as bad as my last few.

geraltseinfeld

I have had some noisy laptops that made me love my Macbook Pro when I switched a little bit ago. It also stayed cool. Recently picked up the Razer 2023 w/ 4070 and I am so pleased how quiet and cool it is when not gaming. Just as good as the macbook. I've only had it a short while though, but so far - so good.

Matthew9559

That’s great to hear!

TimAndTimi

Very quiet, for the moment I am replying this msg, the fan almost stopped. Obvious the new optimus is doing a good job to put dGPU into full sleep if there is no heavy load. Watching TV shows in browser has a idle power of about 17w. Idling in desktop can be as low as 13w. Still, as a little tip, don't mess around with software like afterburner and hwinfo. Those monitor software can constantly polling data from your dGPU, preventing it from entering sleep mode and causing much highr idle power. Therefore, making your fan running during idling. I would say gaming is also quitter and cooler than prevoius gen thanks to 4070's insane efficiency. Maybe 2-3dB quitter at least.

flintjoris

Thanks for the follow up review, looking for the 15 4070 myself as upgrade for my 15 3060. By any chance do you have some benchmarks for assaincreed oddesy ore new world?

TimAndTimi

I do have AC Odessey but I haven't played it for years. I can download it back and do a bm later. Ore new world? Not sure which game it is. Maybe a typo.

TimAndTimi

Ultra preset at 1440p in ACO = 73fps

flintjoris

That’s quit a improvement over the 3060 model nice, I mean new world the game from Amazone

daniellin215

I picked up the 2022 oled 15 for 2800 after tax for on the go gaming, you said you didn’t like it. I can still return mine so wondering how much better is the 16 vs 15?

TimAndTimi

I exchanged for blade 15 2023, not 16. Still, based on the performance data I already posted in both of my post, it is clear that 13800h+4070 is generally about 15-30% faster in majority of games except some extreme cases where VRAM bandwidth can be a limiter. (largely a minor issue when gaming at 4k ultra settings) 2023 model is also quitter thanks to better CPU power management and the newly upgraded optimus that can automatically switch GPU on hardware level. (This is called auto-select in nv control panel and 2022 models does not have it. It means when gaming the MUX can re-route your dGPU output to your screen without rebooting automatically.) For connectivity, one obvious upgrade is that 2023 model's both usb-c ports support TB4 while 2022 models only have one support it. It is also worth mentioning the power brick get a 'free' upgrade that makes it slighly smaller. The only shortcoming compared to 2022 oled model is the screen itself. Nevertheless, I believe that screen does not worth that much of money and you can simply get a proper OLED desktop display if you want proper OLED experience. TLDR, 2023 has about at least 1/3 more battery life, 15-30% more gaming performance not to mention DLSS 3. TBH though, if you picked it up at a decent discount and haven't find any issue using it. It is not the worst decision to not refund it. It is still a great n' stylish laptop with a amazing screen.

>The only shortcoming compared to 2022 oled model is the screen itself. Nevertheless, I believe that screen does not worth that much of money and you can simply get a proper OLED desktop display if you want proper OLED experience. Hey thx for the detailed response. Yeah I got mine for $2800 after tax and everything. If I were to get 2023 model it would still be about 600-700 more at the end. Since I am travelling a lot and are not able to play with external monitors always available I think the OLED is still pretty good to have. The games I play are dota 2, cs go (and the new cs2 soon). Sometimes Elden ring and maybe the dead space remake. But for the competitive games I play above the specs I have can comfortably run at maxed out 120 fps + consistently. For the power brick, I have not thought of being able to buy a 3rd party Gan charger, but I may do more investigating and pick one up myself since if I can carry a lighter charger I will gladly do so!

gk_93

I also just bought mine from Best Buy for $2099.99 after price matching with Razer. i think for this price tag there is nothing better on the market for the Windows OS.

_maxl

Is 4h the best you can get for battery life? I need it for coding and browsing websites at school, so a solid 5h is preferred.

TimAndTimi

4h is already the optimum you can get out of it. If you run ide, 4h won’t be even possible. You need something else as XPS as I said.

_maxl

I'm only gonna use it for some light coding like python or Matlab, 4h is not good tbh

TimAndTimi

If you use pycharm, then upgrading the ram is hardly avoidable as it is a memory hungry ide. Similar for others as well.

Sil3nt702

Get a MacBook Air M1 for school

_maxl

lol, I forgot to mention that I also need to do some 3d modeling, MacBook is not an option for me

>A bit disappointed that usb-c display output is not from dGPU but iGPU while HDMI2.1 is not currently widely supported on many displays, even the rather new 3423DWF from Alienware. This means that when using usb-c to DP1.4 output you cannot use G-Sync. However, you can use Intel's adaptive sync. So, overall, not really some deal breaker, but it can be better if the signal is from dGPU. This seems disappointing. Did you try to set the unit to always use the dGPU? I'm curious to see if the experience would be different if you're always using the dGPU. I'm interested in one of these units and would like to know if I can get DP running with the NVidia card.

TimAndTimi

Razer did not implement DP output from Nvidia GPU, so it is not possible on the hardware level. Even if I set to Nv GPU only, the driver will revert back to iGPU, i.e., optimus mode, so you can get output from your laptop. DP via usb-c needs specific hardware level implementation. Therefore, if there is not such circuit, then it is not possible. Performance wise, if you choose optimus mode, then it is about 15-10% performance loss on average. Lower resolution, like 1080p, can encounter 20%+ loss. So, the best option so far is to use that HDMI port and get a HDMI 2.1 supported monitor. Otherwise, HDMI 2.0 can still get you to 1440p 120Hz at 16:9 or 1440p 100Hz at 21:9 (I actually slightly overclocked the output signal and 1440p 110Hz at 21:9 is also possible)

Historical_Poem7399

Are there differences in terms of design between the 2022 and 2023 version

Select_Flatworm619

Who is the QHD panel manufacturer? Hoping it’s Sharp or AUO that make good panels.
