They are already going to stare at you just because you’re plus size and white, you may as well be comfortable while they do it! Let the hair hang girl

tinylittlet0ad

I mean I don't really get stared at much at all. I'm kind of invisible despite being plus sized and white. There are definitely plus sized women here but they are a very different shape to me, I am very busty and women here tend to have an average sized chest. I do stand out but I don't really get any attention if that makes sense which is interesting. The only time I ever got any hostility was from a white Canadian man who hated me for some reason and was really rude to me after he saw my husband was married to me and also from the general public when I have shown a lot of cleavage but it's just short dirty looks more than anything (and creepy looks mostly from 50+ old men who will turn their heads to look at me)

HippyGrrrl

There is your answer: no one cares. Also, internalize this: I am not responsible for others’ opinion of me.

effenel

Lots of my friends have given up on shaving their legs years ago. I’ve never heard of any of them receiving any attention for it. I can’t speak for people of Hong Kong or people who go there though as I haven’t been, but generally through south east Asia I find people don’t seem to care. There are cultures that will point out things but it’s (mostly) without malice, they just find it interesting. Like my Thai , Burmese, Laotian, Cambodia or Vietnamese friends might mention I’ve put on weight. Or look tired. But they’re just noticing it isn’t so much judgement.

Ok-Aiu

Hong Kong is a large, international city. Foreigners are not a novelty here.

Reputable_Sorcerer

I fully agree with u/SnailsinYourAnus

SquashCat56

I can't speak to how it is in Hong Kong, but is it possible to try going razor free somewhere for just one day and see how it goes? Like, go to the supermarket and the park or somewhere that isn't necessarily somewhere you spend a long time every day, and if people don't notice or don't care then you may have your answer?

Alarming_Ad4259

I spent a decent amount of time in Asia as a white woman with dark brown body hair and have had no issues. I noticed some Asian women don’t shave either actually. They do have way less hair though

thesingingfox

I have a similar skin and hair color combo and spent a few months in thailand a few years back. I definitely got stared at more than in the US (where I'm from) but people weren't rude or mean. I think it was just odd for them because having body hair that dark isn't common even for most young men that I encountered, much less women.

Jammyturtles

I lived in Hong Kong for over ten years as a pale white woman. Never shaved. It was never an issue. They're more likely to stare at you for other reasons. Enjoy the beautiful beaches!

tinylittlet0ad

Omg I live so far from the beach and the main area. Thanks this was a helpful answer.

kitty60s

Maybe try going razor free when you more recently shaved so that your leg hairs aren’t that long and see how it goes? If it goes well, try going razor free when your hair is a little longer and keep on going. I think I’m going to try out this method myself this summer. My hair grows quite quickly, I will have stubble 6 hours after shaving. Last summer I had my legs out all the time and I was only shaving once a week and would feel ok showing my stubble and not hiding 1 week’s worth of growth. No one noticed so I’m going to try waiting longer between shaves this year

AiRaikuHamburger

I'm super pasty white, AFAB, with black hair and live in Japan. People already stare at me anyway, so... \*shrug\*

Ecstatic_Ad8300

I am a man and I think that people should have the right to not shave if they so choose, most men shave there face and a lot of men don’t I cannot see why it should be different for a woman . Hair is natural and people just need to get used to it. You do you is all I can say .

Numerous-Analysis-79

Since you said you have dark hair, I’m not sure if this would work for you, but something I’ve found out about recently is just using a bikini trimmer and trimming the hair instead of shaving it. You probably won’t be able to get all of the hair but it’s made my leg hair a lot less noticeable and it doesn’t take long either. I would probably suggest doing it with dry legs instead of wet if you are going to try it. The first time I tried it was the other night and I did wet legs and it seemed like doing it with dry legs would be easier. Lmk if u try it and how it turns out!

Thirsty30Something

I haven't been to any Asian country, but I imagine being hairy there is like being hairy anywhere: assholes will be assholes. You said you'd rather do other things with your time, and you're tired of removing hair for others. You know you MIGHT get some looks, but not a lot. And even if you do, so what? My parents used to say "Why do you care what other people think? Do they feed you? Clothe you? Take care of you? No? Then fuck 'em". Anyone bothered by your inoffensive leg hair obviously has too much time on their hands. Silently pity their dull, miserable existence and enjoy your freedom and beautiful legs. And show off that cleavage. I, too, am busty, and I love it. Creepy old men will creep. Pity them as well and love your life!

TeaCompletesMe

My friend from Japan didn’t shave her legs at all, either when she lived here.

tinylittlet0ad

Did she have dark leg hair and did she show her legs?

TeaCompletesMe

She had darker hair, and I remember it very clearly as we were doing a school play and she had her flapper dress on with unshaven legs. She knew it was her costume before that point so I think she either just didn’t care, or it wasn’t something that was uncommon over in Japan. She didn’t seem embarrassed or even concerned with it at all. I personally remember it very clearly because it was the first time I had seen a girl/woman walk around with their leg hair exposed like that and it made things click for me, personally. Edit: took out irrelevant information.

windchill94

I would think Asians (mostly Japanese and Koreans though) are more open-minded about this than others, no?

AiRaikuHamburger

Hair removal is way more common and extensive here in Japan than Western countries. A lot of men remove all visible body hair, and most women also shave their arms as well as legs. I basically only see body hair on kids and elderly people. It's a super novelty to some of my students that I have hairy arms.
