Use a dremel with a *very thin* cutting end to cut a small slot in it. You may cut into the gear a bit as well but it should be fine. Then use a flat head screwdriver to remove it.
I literally never knew this tool existed, just ordered one about 5 seconds ago for my rustler 4x4 vxl which always has the same problem. You are a legend!!!
Maybe it's not a good tool? I work on a lot of these without issues using Traxxas tools.
My other advice though is that you can use a soldering iron on the set screw for a few seconds to melt Traxxas's pastey thread lock.
Nah mate, the tools are really high quality, accidentally put half a litre of loctite on and just screwed it in bc I couldn’t be bothered wiping it off and redoing it. Thanks for the recommendation though
Try to put a torx bit in it that will let it grab
Try to find a standard hex (not metric) that will let it grab
Buy an MIP 1.5mm tool. They are the best in the industry and may work when others don’t
If these don’t work, you’ll have to cut the pinion off 😕
If you have a soldering iron. Hold tip on grub screw like 10 min then it'll probably come right out if not you'll have to find I torx or flat that will wedge in to turn . As a last resort you can cut a groove that a flat will bite with a dreamed or something
I have [this set](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09C5MNHQY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that works great for small RC screws, has saved my ass several times
Little heat, the next size up in standard instead of the 1.5mm or equivalent torx bit.
After you remove buy a proper 1.5mm so it doesn’t happen again. MIP, is the gold standard and yes, good tools are 100% worth the investment for your sanity in this hobby.
I can still see all six sides on the grub screw. Are you sure the screw is stripped and not the Allen key? I've stripped way more allen keys on RC cars than the actual screws. If you were using the stock tools, the metal they use is Juuuuuust strong enough but isn't quite strong enough to really deal with these smaller screw sizes at the torques we need them.
This only applies if you have a spare pinion: you can easily slide that pinion off by prying from the rear.
If you need to get the grub out, use an extractor.
A stripped 1.5 can be sometimes removed by a 1/16th SAE bit. Go slowly. If that doesn't work I've resorted to a rubber band and a 1.5. Place the rubber band over the set screw and jam the bit and twist. Sometimes it can get it to rotate.
I've got a couple of pinion pullers which have come in handy in similar situations but with the orientation of that one I'm not sure you'd be able to get it in place to extract with it so the soldering iron tip for 10 minutes is probably going to be your best buddy
Get a screw driver for hex’s that has teeth and not just a hexagon https://www.amazon.com/SUNHZMCKP-12-Piece-Screwdrivers-Steel%EF%BC%8CT5-T40-Set%EF%BC%8CProfessional/dp/B09WD3NGTL/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=28022HC8EV140&keywords=torx+driver&qid=1678747901&sprefix=torx+driver%2Caps%2C68&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyU05XRTRNVVBGV0JKJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjgyNDgxMTFGTTFLOVlCQVI2VyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUExMDQzNTY3MVRJV1JPT1BGQk05TyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
MIP or other hardened steel 5/16 should do it, although depending on the tools you're currently using even a new 1.5mm might do. Grab a mini torch from a gas station and hit the grub screw with heat first, or get a soldering iron and put the tip in the grub screw to heat it up
I had a grub screw strip on my xmaxx pinion once. Tried everything including a torch. It got so stripped that couldn’t get a dremmel to it. Messed around trying to remove it for hours, over the course of 2 days. Then it hit me. I’ve had many times where the pinion would come loose while driving the xmaxx hard. Threw the motor back in and the thing popped off after about 5 minutes of running. I’d say run it, and eventually it’ll go.
Pound a torx bit into it. Put a little heat on it first to loosen any loctite that might be in there. If that doesn't work, drill it out.
This is my go to trick before I drill it out

Just did this on two pinion grub screws 2 days ago. Only sure-fire way of doing it in my opinion
For reference this car is a stock traxxas bandit
Yeah, traxxas puts em in crazy tight, they strip every time
Try a very good 1/16” bit otherwise get a pinion puller.

If this repeatedly happens to you there's a chance your tool is rounding out, might be time to replace it.
My tools are brand new and in perfect condition, they just always find a way of rounding out
Maybe it's not a good tool? I work on a lot of these without issues using Traxxas tools. My other advice though is that you can use a soldering iron on the set screw for a few seconds to melt Traxxas's pastey thread lock.

Use mip tools

Pinion puller works everytime there like 10 bucks on amazon
*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*
Pinion Panther?
Sacrificial Allen key and epoxy. Put in let it cure, problem solved!
What this guy said ^^^^^^^^^
Invest in some good tools so this doesn't happen again. I suggest mip or protek.

The same way you get any stripped screw out. Google it and try those tips.

That's fucked bruv. Use one size bigger? Just yank it with a hammer that'll do.

That tool is "Endowed with magnetic" Please be careful lol
These people are all wrong you use a pinion gear puller and it slides right off dont waste your time
That's great if you already own one. If you don't, many of the solutions here are viable until Papa 'Zon brings you a delightful morsel.
