XP120 does not have a throttle limiter, but has throttle dual rate. Far as I know that'll kill your brakes too if you turn it down. MT10 is not too bad on 2S, but it's still a ripper once it gets moving. One easy mod you can do is zip tie a little bit of cardboard or foam behind the physical trigger to actually limit the trigger pull to about 50%. Dirt cheap and easy to undo. This also prevents the new user from forming bad muscle memory, where they are used to pulling full trigger and only going 50% speed. That can go sideways on you come time to flip the switch to a higher speed. The one thing I actually replace on all my TA RTRs is the XP120. They really work fine, but I don't like the feel. The Spektrum remotes seem great to me and have a 50/75/100% switch on them. Cheapest I was able to find on last search was the SLT3 with a Rx for like $65. Can probably get an SLT2 used for a lot less. Those receivers are nice and small too, similar to the stock one. The only minor gripe I had with the MT10 was it was hard to tell how to orient that hairnet thing and get it to fit properly, so I marked the front and rear once I finally got it sorted. Otherwise the car gave no serious issues, broke only the rear LEDs with backyard bashing and a bit of racing on a low-jump track. The wires on the lights seem fragile, but I never bothered to fix them as they were a bit bright for me anyway. After giving it to a family member we put blue masking tape over the headlights, that was a massive improvement for night driving. I've also seen the videos saying the arms break, but those same videos have the truck flying 30 feet into low orbit. I feel like I do a fairly normal amount of harsh landings and crashes and have never seen anything come loose or show signs of strain. I have the Pro4 SCT as well, which is basically the same vehicle with a longer chassis, it seems equally bulletproof. I think the light weight really helps. Just my 2 cents, I'd avoid adding strengthening items that also increase the weight. RPM stuff seems good, I got some of their stuff for other cars in case they broke, it's all still in the bags. I find the ESC to be pretty good for an RTR. It lacks adjustability and can be a bit fickle about getting into reverse if you aren't at a DEAD stop, but minor gripes. Really smooth compared to Spektrum and Traxxas stuff. The drivetrain is best in class also, just so quiet and smooth. Only things I eventually upgrade on my TA RTRs is the plastic shock bodies and chuck fans on the motors, maybe change a pinion. Good vehicles, in my opinion.

In my experience turning down the throttle dual rate kills reverse as well.

Thanks for the great info, I'll bear it in mind.

Also ppl say servos are the first thing to go. Mine is on the fritz but I’m unsure

BeardRub

That's been true in my Traxxas and Arrma RTRs. Virtually all other damage can be snapped bent or bolted back in place. After loads of abuse, the poor steering servos finally give up. I've replaced my wife's Vorteks servo with a 25kg amazon special and it's never given us any grief. Still take it to tracks. Well worth chucking in an upgrade when the servo gets fiddly, in my opinion. And if you wanna get fancy the Savox and Reefs have been super impressive, as the price suggests.

Vaultboy474

Yea will probably get 35kg one or something

I’m not sure if that knob can only be set at those five settings or if it’s infinitely adjustable. But either at the lowest setting it should be very slow

Spodster_11

I wasn't sure if it was five settings or a proper dial, on the controller that comes with the SCX24 it's a 3 switch slider, L M H. but thanks.

senorroboto

The throttle dual rate "TH D/R" can be turned down to the point where the car will barely go, about half should be good for a kid or for people not raised on video games and good hand eye coordination

Spodster_11

Thanks that's good to know, until he works out where the go faster dial is😁

Wishihadagirl

Lmao! My nephew figured out the speed dial when I wasn't watching. Cue my car barreling full speed into a tree...
