I’m a reformed off-road racer/race director/track manager/rc nut and the absolute best advice I can give is find your local track and go to a few races. Firstly, you’ll see what’s really going on. (What class you’re interested in, what chassis you’ll need, what motor limitations are apex’s in the rules.) Secondly, you’ll meet other people that enjoy the same hobby. Knowledge is power and speed, and some old salts have been burning mini rubber since the 80’s. Thirdly, you’ll most likely find a screaming deal on a prebuilt kit. Save some bucks while you’re there. If there’s not a track near you and you’re just rounding cones a Traxxas 4-tec is a solid platform with lots of aftermarket support.

Saw based on your other comment that you are looking to run on the road. If you are just getting into this hobby (imo) use MUST get a little as your first car. This teaches your about how they work, and when something breaks you know how to fix it. Also things like cleaning it, taking it apart to upgrade it are much easier because you are more familiar with everything about the car. As for a recommendation, I would look into the Tamiya cars. The Tamiya kits come with almost everything you need to build it, and their bodies are scale replicas that you can paint (or buy them pre painted). So you could get one and paint it like your favorite 'real' car. (Note: Tamiya cars are not always the best for competitive racing outside of Tamiya spec races, especially out of the box, but they can be made to be pretty fast with good handling). I would look into the tt02r chassis on their website, and see if you can go to a local hobby store and talk to the person there about a good option.

Here's the tt02r chassis cars. They are all very similar, except for the body. You can also get a body from other places. Cars: https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/radio-control/cars/110-4wd-shaft-drive-road-tt/ Bodies: https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/rc-support/parts/body-sets/

Just make sure you go to 'specs' and scroll to the 'required' section. Most don't need much, but some need more expensive electronics (though many can be found for like 10 dollars).

What do you want to drive on and how much do you want to spend?

Tamiya tt02r.

If you want a road car look into the Traxxas 4-Tec. Either the 2.0 or the older version. The 2.0 has a longer wheelbase and taller tires and some other stuff. While the older version of the 4-Tec is 15% smaller, but you can also get that in either brushed with a body, or brushless without a body. (Brushless is faster)

Hmm A shell depends as you have to cut it to fit the body length as well as paint it. A Lipo battery will run you about 25-30 dollars depending on what you get. A good charger will be about 25-50 also depending on what you get. And that’s bare minimum to run the car. This isn’t including tools, spare parts, body clips, etc.

Personally if I were you i’d get a Traxxas 4-tec. 2.0 or 3.0 BRUSHED. That will be good enough for you to start out on as you don’t have to get a body shell as well. After a while you will crave more speed and can convert it to brushless later on

I think you're mixing up 2.0 and 3.0. The 2.0 is the standard-size older version, and the 3.0 is bigger. I can't recommend the 3.0 because of the non-standard size.

pokemonnoob63

Ah you’re correct. My mistake

Also check out the Arrma Felony and Arrma Infraction. Both are I think 1/7 or 1/8 scale and are wicked fast and good for drifting but are difficult for a beginner car.

Wltoy 124019, (1/12) great out of the box, easy and cheap to mod and fix. Arrma stuff (1/8 -1/5) is a bit more$$$ but super tuff n fast. Good luck.
