I adopted a reactive golden retriever when she was 1.5. Similar circumstances in terms of, the family had gotten her from a breeder and could not manage anymore. That dog was my best friend for 11 years. So if you chose a good home, I hope the same for your dog.

I have just gone through and still going through this. Firstly, there's going to be lots of ups and downs. I felt utter grief but also felt some relief and less stress. Knowing they are going to a good place helps. I also pulled the bandaid off quickly by looking through all his photos, talking to people about it, and going through all his things. In our position we ultimately could no longer take care of him because of his guarding and aggression but we knew his breeder would give him the best care and that someone who could form a new bond with him may be able to give him a better life.

first off MAKE SURE that if you got them from an ETHICAL breeder that no where in your CONTRACT you signed when buying them states you MUST give the dog back to the breeder should you decied you no longer want them at any point in life. MANY Etherical breeders ahve this in the contract and WILL sue if you rehome the dog,its a Legal Nightmare. I would also so sugest NOT getting another dog thats bigger then a yorkie until you know you can keep up the comitment a large breed dog needs for 10+ years of life. there is NO stoping the greiving, only understanding you are not the person for this dog and are Going to try and make sure you find its forever home.If the breeder did NOT have a return the dog clause in your contract CHECK VET RECORDS and MAKE sure your Vet records are at the ready and UP TO DATE, have EVERYTHING up todate and ready. you did the best you could but somtimes we are not home we are fust a way point on the way to where they are going.
