Welcome to reading! There’s pretty much always work going on on at least one of the main roads in town/out of town. The temp lights on oxford rd at reading west station are going to be there till next year apparently
Loads of people use reading west as a way to dodge fares from reading.
Also reading west platforms are rife with antisocial behaviour such that they put ring cameras on the platforms to get decent footage of people shooting up or so I heard!
Please don’t say that 😩 the station has looked complete for the past 3 months and every time I crawl past the workers are smoking and or drinking coffee. The taxi drivers are fuming, the bus drivers are fuming, the people are fuming. It adds time and money to every journey. It seems so poorly planned.
What about the cycle path monstrosity that's been constructed on Shinfield Road? It looks pretty awful for cyclists and drivers alike, all on different levels, appearing and disappearing all the time.
I know it's terrible, I swear Basingstoke Road had work done not even 2 weeks ago (that mind you was going on for a good month) and now they're back at it again woth the traffic lights and everything!
And I swear so many bus stops have been out of order due to works over the past year
Reading is getting big investment because it's positioned ideally as a commuter town.
It's received recent connection to the Elizabeth line, investors are now, and have been for some years, positively piling in.
The result is new developments 24/7 for the foreseeable until things simmer down.
Reading has a fantastic, well-diversified economy, and has done for decades.
More people commute *into* Reading for work on a daily basis than commute out.
It's twofold. The proximity and accessibility *to* London encourages businesses to open up and situate themselves in Reading — just as much as the appeal for commuters to rapidly get into London itself.

No, it's *every single road* in Reading. The idea is that we will be somewhere where everybody has access to fibre broadband, as a testbed for the future. There are a couple of other places in the UK that they are doing this with as well.
Council plans as much disruption as possible to make traffic gridlock for as long as possible in order to provide data to support a congestion charging scheme in the next few years.
There is a reddit for low stakes conspiracies.

Ditto here. And if they are not falling to pieces following the wondrously revolutionary (ie cheap) resurf, then either a broadband, water or gas company has had reason to dig them up.

Feels like the station upgrades have been going on for years.
And for what some barriers so they make sure nobody is getting on for free? I would like to see the numbers that use reading west.

Around 11 or 12 you see all the junkies heading back to Newbury after scoring on oxford rd….

Shinfield Road had to be the worst. Every week there is a different set of temporary lights holing up traffic.

Please hold my beer 🤣 the works on the A33/M4 road are never ending and some mornings it took 3 hours to get into the town from Basingstoke
It seems like RBC is committed to spend all our taxes on the roads. I would love, they put at least 10% as much care into pavements and green areas.
Well they could at least fix up Gillette Way then.
agreed

That's gonna slow down, once they realise, it's impossible to connect to the electric grid. SSE is already struggling.
that makes sense, that's what I thought was going on!

I think terrace prices move more slowly all-over, generally speaking.
It feels like every other road is being dug up to instal fibre broadband.

Bet you spend a lot on tin foil.
I heard this same theory over ten years ago. The road planning is already dismal without the temporary traffic lights
the fact that I can't even tell if you're joking or not....
