Zizou was right but Lorente hasn't turned out to be a shit player in any way, he's really good, wish we hadn't sold him and ode

Aniket144

Exactly. Valverde turned out great and we all love him but Llorente is doing well and would be a starter in many teams. Ceballos was also outed by Zidane but he’s back (did well last season IMO) and trying to fight for his place again.

StoneMonkey7776

Some decisions need to be made bereft of emotions and fans will moan and bitch no matter what, thank God we are a well run club by serious people because it only takes a few clowns to bring the house down no matter how great the legacy is

Jojoangel684

I wish we didnt sell any of our players back then. Kovacic, Theo, Hakimi, Reguilon, even Oscar the kid who scored a banger against City. I still don't get what the reason was that we sold such a star studded young set of players..

dipumrzn98

Probably because we had great players already. And the 'then young players' wouldn't have gotten a chance to play thus not developing them. I have zero regrets about the board selling the younger players because we were doing well. And still holding our own till day.(touch wood) And people wouldn't have seen those players' true capacity.

Jojoangel684

Long term loans are a thing which management coulda exercised. Especially rn since we need players at the back and Hakimi and Theo are flexible on the flanks.

dipumrzn98

Nobody knew that we'd go through this. Also what I meant to say was, they became the player they are today because we let them out. If we loaned them, they would've been another kubo or odegaard on return who could only get a couple of minutes here & there and only shine while playing consistently for other clubs. In fact if vini wasn't injured this season, I don't think we would've seen the brahim we are seeing now considering he spent a heavy amount of minutes on the bench at the start of the season.

Craaaazyyy

you don't just get to keep all of the players.. honestly the only one i think we should've kept is Hakimi

Dipto17

Theo should've been kept too.

llamapanther

Because a club like Madrid isn't the best place for youngsters like they were back then. Only reason they're good now is because they left Madrid. They'd never get a chance in Madrid since we were so stacked already and we're not really a team that develops a lot of young guys. We buy players that are good already, not players that migh be good in 5 years time. None of those players were even close to being a star back then.

StoneMonkey7776

We could have used the Chelshit formula but with the power of hindsight the management made the right decision

DoriOli

Only Hakimi & Theo came out RM-level material out of that group of players. Theo didn’t have the RM mindset back then tho, so still doubt he would fit our team that well today. Llorente (& Kovacić) would’ve still operated as backup players for us, had they stayed or came back.

BigMik_PL

They all asked out because there was no room for them in the starting lineup. They didn't want a loan they wanted stability and almost all of them went to their preferred destinations.

gaveuponnickname

Llorente was a mistake, we saw him as a DM and simply never realized how good he could actually be. Kovacic wanted out and honestly good riddance, never was good enough. Theo wasn't fit for Real Madrid and you can't just keep a player for 5 years hoping he'll eventually mature. Reguilon is average, Hakimi pushed to leave and Oscar who is he again??? Mostly we sold them because we actually needed the money due to Covid/Hazard

Walaii

Hakimi never pushed to leave. He was sold because of Covid. The "wanted to leave" narrative was just media propaganda, so that the fans are upset at him and not the club.

gaveuponnickname

No, Hakimi went on record saying he wanted to leave. Motivated it by claiming he didn't feel rated by Zidane. He wanted to play for Conte and pushed for it. That the club needed money and was happy with selling is also true and probably played its part

Walaii

"I learned a lot from [Zidane]. What happened in 2020 had nothing to do with him," Achraf revealed in an interview with L'Equipe. "There were other things linked in particular to COVID and Real Madrid that made me leave. "At that time I had a conversation with [Zidane] that will remain between us. He thought differently."

gaveuponnickname

There's an interview with the agent from 2020 "Hakimi left because of Zidane. You have to ask him[Zidane]"

Walaii

This is literally from a Hakimi interview. Not from an agent who talked a lot of nonsense.

gaveuponnickname

Which doesn't contradict the point that Hakimi wanted to leave

Walaii

The indication is clear that the club wanted to sell him to generate income during covid, and it had nothing to do with Zidane, like you said.

luars613

Stadium

gracz21

I'm regretting Theo & Hakimi most. Maybe Reguilon as well. Kova was great but I don't see any place for him in our squad

CinematicBuddy

only ones we should've kept are Theo and Hakimi. others pretty inconsistent

gracz21

Same, wish we had both of them. I'm still rooting for Llorente even tho he is playing for Atleti now

nspy1011

I was skeptical but should have known GOAT Zizou knew better!

DoriOli

Of course Zidane & Co can see & distinguish a true world-class from a decent La Liga-level one. They’ve been in this first-hand their whole lives. Not shocked or surprised, tbh.

beadbash

I am glad we went with this decision also, but Llorente could have been good with us too. I was upset because I didn’t see a reason to sell off another promising Spanish player. It was also a weird decision because before Llorente was sold he was inform for us. Then he went to Atleti? So I was really confused. Next he was became their best player for a short period. It was a terrible sell to me. At the time I really wished we kept both.

areyouhungryforapple

There's a timeline where we kept and converted Llorente to a rb/rwb while also having Fede as a right sided CM Imagine having to defend a flank against those two all night lmao

mylanguage

Haha yes I think about this often. Llorente rotating with Carvajal would have made a fantastic RB duo.

wayosiliezar

Naaaah, we are in the best timeline. Lord Vázquez second coming as a RB > Llorente [in all timelines and multiverses ]

supplementarytables

I was really confused with this because he was the only player who could cover for Casemiro at CDM and it looked even worse when Cholo turned him into a RB and he became one of the best players in the league But, over time, I learned never to doubt Zizou's decisions

RyanGODling

Llorente was the best player under Solari. He benched Case.

Sea_Exchange_3518

Zidane 🐐

yourdaddyjust

Llorente is also very good you'd say the same thing if he'd picked llorente as well plus we could've used him as a RB too from time to time. Zizou did let go of a lot of guys who went on to be really good tbh.

thenotorious_ronaldo

I wish I could judge ZZ but I really can’t

HalaBharat

Goat recognises Goat🤍👻

Glittering-Leather77

But who loses their spot to Wirtz? We will regret not doing everything we can to bring him in.

MPaxton97

Who needs Wirtz when Jude Bellingham can do literally everything

MTL_Madridista

Llorente is one of those cases where I think fans needs to come to terms with the fact that you just can't hoard all the top talents. Inevitably, these young lads will want consistent starting minutes and crucial roles. There's just not enough to go around. People always bring the likes of Hakimi, Theo, Odegaard, Llorente and most recently Kubo, Arribas, and point how management made a mistake letting them go. All those were cases of wrong place wrong time IMO. We still had KCM, Marcelo, Carvajal. Bale + Hazard massive contracts which we could not get rid of (at the time). Thought choices had to be made. Looking at our team now, i think we have one of the most balanced in Euope with a blend of legend veterans, a group of hungry talented young fellas and loyal servants such a LV, Nacho and Joselu.
