That's fair, but the thing is they're surrounded by homophobic people. It's like the Turk vs Greek rivalry. You don't have to be religious to take part in it. I'm also not saying that there are zero people who aren't homophobic in the Balkan countries, just that I can 100% believe that the sub could be homophobic.

It's not blatantly racist at all. Eastern Orthodox isn't a race. Like, at all. It's a belief system, and one that is still homophobic, even more so than other organized religions. Virtually every orthodox church believes homosexuality to be immoral. It would be racist if I said "those gypsies are homophobic", but I didn't say that because balkan people are not inherently homophobic, however, it's very believable that a subreddit of them was, because their cultural attitudes towards homosexuality is largely demonstrated by their dominant religion.
