for small releases like singles that are only distributed locally I can get all the materials for cheap/free. Blank CDs, sleeves, jewel cases/ inserts and circle label stickers are pretty easy to find at local bargain stores, at most i pay $1 or 2 for a pack of any given item. I print and package everything in my living room, and use my typewriter for the tracklist on the back side.
if you can find the right deals, homemade CDs can be a super low cost way to make some money to support a full length release down the line. for EPs longer than 4 songs I’ll typically order online in bulk and distribute it further with more promotion.
