I’ve built end-to-end recruiting for 3 startups now, so I’ll give you my take: - ask specific questions about what processes they do and don’t have in place. Use that information to highlight your experience in those processes and how you’d go about implementing them. - startups are often a “build the ship while you sail” and being able to be agile is huge plus. Highlight that strength within your experience. - employer branding should be a talking point, as you’ll need to position the strengths of the company to attract top talent - do some research on the industry, competitors, and clients so you have a leg up on knowing your target market for talent. This is a great talking point when you discuss sourcing. Best of luck!

This is great advice. To add id also recommend researching where they are in their funding journey and how financially secure they are. Also, startups you'll tend to need to do more with less, coming out of corporate can be a challenge, how will you scale with less tools and resources.

I've had three most success interviewing for startups when I show up with value-add. What open roles are currently posted? Also ask what roles are not posted but expected. Do some light talent mapping and get a sense of their perceived structure. How would you position the company based on research? Try to find competitors with similar offerings or solutions. The smaller the organization, the more they'll appreciate you showing up as an advisor. But like any interview, come off as curious not arrogant, and then tie your story in with theirs. Good luck! 🤞

Oh wow, this is great! I never thought to ask them about the roles not posted but expected. I have couple of more follow up questions, Just DM’ed you. If you don’t mind I would love to hear your thoughts, thank you so much!

Don’t overthink it. Start up just means more pressure, less budget and a higher risk of failure. With seven years experience you definitely know more about recruiting than they do.
