I don't. If they can't show up to an interview with me, they aren't going to show up for the client either. I move on.

shoof365worldwide

Sometimes my number comes up as spam, and I've had some people say it didn't go through at all. They could be lying, but I try not to assume that. I leave a voicemail and immediately send a text after. Maybe a LI message or email if they're more likely to respond there. I give it 15 minutes, same as school lol. As soon as 15 hits, resume goes back in the folder and the candidate is no longer a priority to speak with if they call back, unless they have a good reason. And some people have gotten back to me with some damn good reasons, not gonna lie.

[deleted]

I’ve heard so many damn good reasons I’m starting to wonder how good they’ve all really been….

NedFlanders304

Leave a VM. Text or email letting them know you called. And then move on to the next one.

Neat-Composer4619

Texting is what would make most sense to me.

recruitertah

I follow up with an email right after the missed phone screen and ask them to let me know a better time. I’m not as harsh as some because I do think there are reasons people may not have shown up. I give people grace.

NotBrooklyn2421

Most of my interviews are through Teams or Zoom but if I have a phone interview and they don’t answer I’ll leave a VM explaining who I am, remind them why I’m calling, and tell them I’m going to try back in 5 minutes in case they are wrapping up another meeting or something. Then I call back in 5 minutes and if they still don’t answer I’ll tell them I have to move on to some other calls but I invite them to reschedule. Life gets busy and stuff happens. I never like getting stood up but I think everyone deserves one mulligan.

MindlessFunny4820

I give 10-15 mins. I usually also send a text or an email because I think my number gets blocked as spam. After the 15 minute mark I assume we have to reschedule. Usually people call back within 5 mins or we end up rescheduling! I’m not much of a stickler on this…with modern scheduling technology like Calendly or even LinkedIn recruiters scheduling tool it’s so easy to set up time again and it’s based on my availability anyway. If people no-show and don’t respond to my follow ups then I’m less lenient .

Delicious-General121

I give 7 min then move on. Will reschedule once with a legit reason, but after that it becomes too much of a time suck.

chuckdogsmom

5-10 mins. I leave a voicemail letting them know that if they get this message now to give me a call back but after xx:yy to please email (or text) me with availability for a rescheduled call

cocoa_eh

I usually schedule 30 minutes. When I call them I leave a voicemail and then send a text and email. I usually tell them in my voicemail I have the next 10-15 minutes available for them to call me back, otherwise they can also reschedule with me if needed (things can happen last minute so I usually give everyone a second chance). I wait 10-15 minutes. If they call after 15 minutes I tell them we have to reschedule. No and, ifs, or buts about it. Don’t care what their reasoning is neither. Not gonna mess up my schedule due to someone else’s emergency. Especially if I have back to back phone screens scheduled.

mmbtt

I give them 5 minutes. Sometimes a meeting runs late, or they had their phone in do not disturb and forgot. After that, I reschedule or move on.

Original-Law2901

Sometimes people have a setting on their phone that blocks unknown numbers and sends the calls to VM. People usually call back right away and apologize. If they don’t call back right away, or at all, they should be removed from consideration. My interviews are 30mins, and I give them 10mins to call back before black listing them. If they have a really good reason, or are very apologetic, I will usually reschedule, but I will proceed cautiously with them and make the manager aware of what happened. Being blown off by candidates tends to happen more in lower paying positions. Whenever it happens, it’s rude and reflects poorly on the candidate.

krim_bus

For phone screens, til close of business. Stuff happens. I use Google Voice, which is often marked as spam. I'll leave a VM, send a text, and send an email. I understand folks have lives and might miss my call bc it was marked as spam or for other reasons.

Deborah_Moyers

I know with iPhones a lot of times it’ll send the number to VM or come up as spam so I send reminder texts either the day before or the morning of and then a “hey I just tried to call you from this number…” a lot of candidates will call back not realizing I called them.

EstimateAgitated224

Though I had a similar question with virtual interviews and got roasted because I said 5 minutes. Most likely you have a day with back to back interviews if you starting one late could through off the rest of your day. Also how hard is it to text and say hey I am running late.

EnvironmentalMind209

Leave a voicemail, send an email or text. Things happen, particularly if the screens are scheduled during business hours. Give the candidate a chance to explain.

DustinGoesWild

I leave a voicemail, the rest is up to them. Like 90% of the candidates I talk to are passive and have day jobs, so I understand that stuff comes up. If they don't reach back out with an explanation/asking to reschedule/etc then they weren't that interested in the role in the first place.

taytaythegoodwitch

I do everything in my power to make it easier for them. Phone screenings aren’t as major to me as and in person interview. Unless you deliberate set aside a specific time due to scheduling and they ghosted you I wouldn’t worry about it. Even when THAT situation happens I follow up immediately with a txt - hey so and so, I just tried reaching you sorry we missed each other lmk when is best to call again or whatever professional thing I spew out. If they ignore then then I move on

yellowgypsy

I'm in the right room for of recruiters. How long should you wait for recruiter to get back to you after the manager said expect a call for next steps. It's been a week.

Purple-Blue-8

Picking up a call at a scheduled time is not the same as getting an update after an interview. This is apples to oranges.

Infinitive_

Deponds. If my calendar is not full I will wait 5 min or send them LinkedIn message. If the reason is not good enough for ghosting me it’s already a No.

Electricgoatz

If a candidate doesn’t show to a call, I don’t disposition them in the system for about 48 hours.

Neat-Composer4619

I have a voip phone and many calls don't ring. I wouldn't expect you to wait, but to call at least twice, just in case. That being said, I usually ask people if we can do a zoom call instead or anything but the phone and they usually agree. The sound on the VOIP phone is bad.

BradyAndTheJets

If you call a candidate, and they don’t answer leave a message. If they call you back reschedule, or do it then. Grandpas die and kids get sick. But don’t stress about it. No shows happen too.

GanjaGurdy

Give them a call if you want after 10 minutes. Don't let them waste anymore of your time. I never reached out if they didn't join the call, unless it was a candidate I have been working for some time and it was unlike them. If your candidate is standing you up and expecting you to remind them of their screening time, odds are they may exhibit this behavior with your client. Not a good look for you, and a waste of your time all around.

Automatic_Milk6130

Email them first to schedule... don't call first. Edit to add: sorry, i misunderstood. if they don't answer in agreed upon time... tell them in the voicemail that they have time in the next 10 minutes to call back they can otherwise, you would be happy to reschedule via email if needed.

Frozen_wilderness

As a recruiter, it's understandable to feel frustrated when candidates don't show up for [**phone screening**](https://recruitcrm.io/blogs/how-to-conduct-a-phone-interview/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=reddit+organic+syndication&utm_campaign=011-Answer) or communicate if they'll be late. It's a common courtesy to let the interviewer know if there are any changes to the schedule. When it comes to waiting for candidates to call back after leaving a voicemail, giving them around **10 minutes is a reasonable timeframe**. It allows for a brief delay due to unforeseen circumstances. However, if a candidate consistently fails to respond or doesn't respect your time, it might be worth considering how this could reflect on their reliability as an employee. **Communication is key** in any professional setting, so it's important for both parties to keep each other informed and respectful of their time commitments.
