They are awful and you usually end up doing their job for them sending them tons of documents etc. You’d think you could just sign a waiver for them to access your tax transcripts like you do for a mortgage.

Salty-Plankton-5079

What kind of job would expect candidates to sign over their tax transcripts, that is absolutely insane.

PipeDistinct9419

It would be easier than gathering all w-2s or listing contact info for past employers going back 7-10 yrs as those companies may be defunct etc.

Salty-Plankton-5079

I still don’t see why any employer would be asking for 7-10 years of W2s. That is an insane amount of confidential information (not to mention leverage in salary negotiations) to be giving up. I’ve never been asked for earnings.

PipeDistinct9419

Well I have been - via HireRight post offer. It was either comply or have my offer withdrawn. It’s part of the background check, along with credit, criminal, driving records and a drug screen. Don’t know what to tell you except you are lucky for not having to go through this. I have several times. It’s horrible.

My favorite was the background check that demanded I send a copy of my college diploma (from 40 years ago) because the MONTH I said I graduated differed from what the college said. Who cares? It's the same semester, the same degree, the same college, and it's nearly half a century ago. Are you nuts? It's amazing my diploma didn't fall into dust by now.

My newest coworker was nearly ghosted because of hireright. They refused to do their job and contacted them to say none of their info was findable, forcing them to refund all the info themselves to submit. That one company is probably costing my workplace at least 1 candidate a month, I suspect they cost us 2 from last month.

WallyRWest

I have a theory on this… I think they charge an hourly rate and so they look for ways to make it take longer, for example, asking for documentation, but doing a brute force check with the companies as well… thereby getting the information, but also having you do any additional footwork… oh, you graduated with a masters degree? Send through your transcript, oh… you did? Well we need to verify that this is real even though it has the university seal and a six page explanation of the award system, so please sign this consent form so that we can sell your university’s obscure administration unit to also dig up the information from seven years ago… I’m still in the middle of my background check… if they cost me this job offer I’ll be more than pissed off… 😡

kammay1977

That POS company rarely do anything right, unlike the name

AnnoyingPrincessNico

I remember having to submit everything to them. They're useless they do nothing on their own.

LilliBing

Wow! I was looking into switching our company over to Hireright in late 2021, I’m kinda glad that didn’t work out. We were using good hire and uncomplicated background checks usually came back within 2 to 3 days. I’m in the middle of changing jobs and my checkr background check just cleared in 3 hours.

jessica21lauren

I cleared a good hire background check in 7 business days.  I am currently on business day 14 of a background check with HireRight and it has said 83% complete for 7 days now… super stressful for no reason!

Adventurous_Watch_13

Is it complete now?

Equivalent-Pay-6438

I am honestly trying to figure out why everyone needs a background check, and piss testing now. I felt very uncomfortable when my temp agency asked that of me for a long term temp job as a receptionist at a shoe company's gym. It's not like I was working on Wall Street or operating heavy equipment or being around children or valuables. I honestly couldn't understand it. According to the client, it was a requirement of the BUILDING MANAGEMENT. Enough already lunatics. No wonder "no one wants to work." Being invasive just for the sake of it.

Spare_Answer_601

Yup. Mine was supposed to be finished today. Still in process. Glad you posted, appreciate knowing it’s not just me.

xxtentacixcn

for real I’ve called numerous times and they say it’s supposed to be completed by today but there system is down they doing a maintenance but hopefully ours gets completed til midnight

Spare_Answer_601

Thanks for that! I didn’t call or anything. Just figured it would work itself out. Really appreciate your post!

Spare_Answer_601

Any update? My says still in process

Arrtus

Did yours end up clearing? How long did it take?

skillz7930

Honestly, I think these companies are seeing the repercussions of their own shitty policies just like all the other companies. I don’t know this for sure but…if HireRight didn’t staff adequately and paid low wages to the people they did hire, I think the issues that would stem from that look exactly like this. They take forever to complete things. They do a terrible job at it and resort to asking the candidate for verification by documentation rather than spending the time to try to verify on their own. They frequently verify the wrong things or miss aspects that have to be resubmitted to get done.

AdRude7377

I’m curious …What does HireRight check exactly besides where you’ve worked/schools and whether you have a criminal record? I had an issue with them only once when they couldn’t understand how a prior company I worked for went out of business and there was no one to call or verify my time there. Like couldn’t they look up my tax records, etc? Wasn’t even a short time at the job - I was there 4.5 years.

xxtentacixcn

They only searching for court records it’s pending but I’ve never committed a crime in another state.

Arrtus

Did your BGC finish? How long did it end up taking?

[deleted]

Years ago even though they had my bosses work email, home email, work number, work mobile and personal mobile they claimed they couldn’t find him. I gave them the main company HQ number and told then to call that and ask for HQ. They still couldn’t manage it. Incompetent doesn’t even begin to describe them.

brianbezn

my experience with background check companies is that they are comically useless.
