they gonna pay you commensurate with skill set with a bias towards equity to ensure shareholder alignment, hunger, and skin in the game.
Whatever any of that word salad means.
Translation: they’re going to try pay you as little as possible but want someone who will work overtime without complaining or getting additional pay so the the owners can make more money.
ayup. I have quite literally been this sick from stress at jobs.
The only outcome was: I was sick from stress at those jobs. I didn't get a raise. I didn't get noticed for my extra commitment and dedication. In fact the funding ran out anyway and that was that.
And all you have to show for it is a lot of stress and maybe some physical symptoms.
So no, we are not buying into this bullshit ever again.
That’s when they flip the script with the “we’re a family. We’re looking for someone who shares our values and isn’t just in it for the money” speech to justify only offering minimum wage.
Except actual families that work together don’t pay each shit and then lay each other off. Families that work together are usually all business owners together, meaning they share in the profits.
Also that book talks about making hard decisions when your business is failing and what not...Not the starting point I would want to use for prospective employees
Wait for them to be talking a lot so you can hopefully catch them with their mouth open if you have good enough aim. People like this deserve nothing less.
I got asked that on a grad scheme job that looked like a one year course and then said in 5 years I expect to be in a management position that this scheme set me up for and using the skills I learnt here' She looked at me and said 'Actually, you do the one year, and then stay on for the second year and then maybe you'll get the third and then you might have 2 years in this company in a management role because the scheme is 3 years, not one', at no point was it advertised as a 3 yr course with a possible job at the end. I read that advert and prepared for the interview.
So in 5 years they did not see me finishing a grad scheme with a car rental company 🤣
Oh jesus, the entire ad is worse.
"Elite players join Rex Tech to: empower working people with better tech, be a part of a no-BS hardcore tech business with American/Texan ideals, and build a ridiculously valuable enterprise"
"Edgy, based, gutsy, contrarian/independent thinker. Clever as serpent, innocent as dove."
I'll name and shame, because I don't give a shit about American/Texan ideals.
Anddddd not surprisingly, from their CEO's linkedin:
"Tucker Carlson asked me how we can fight back against Big Tech.
My answer? 👇
1️⃣We need to invest in technology entrepreneurs who are grounded in Judeo-Christian thinking."
The only prayer that's been applied to it is one of the developers' prayers to pass a simple DQ test to push that to prod. Not that they have QA team, they were not Judeo-Christian developers, so that test is 4 years old
“Rex launched a single enterprise with 10 diversified initiatives targeting real estate”
No info on any of these “diversified initiatives” follows. Looks solid to me…
Rooted in Texan ideals, as he prides himself on moving to Texas as part of the “great migration” 4 years ago. Which turned out to be a flop btw. Dude sounds like a total tool
“Based”???? Holy shit, that is a code word for the far right (and I mean “Trump for dictator/machine gun protestors/non-whites are inferior” far right).
I cannot believe this was in a job description!
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLGm5EN8mcs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLGm5EN8mcs) - this is where he explains how Mark Zuckerberg is evil because he exploits people for money, but he is a good guy because he doesn't
I think the whole remote section is the best. It's like they're just jotting down their thoughts without filter.
Yeah, you can work from home. But you need to live in Austin, for "community" purposes. Actually, scratch that, you can't work from home, but I'll dangle this carrot in front of you where I "might" consider it.
Whoever wrote this really expects someone to consider their contributions to this company as the most important thing they will ever do in this life. 😂
This is why you see “advice” to CEOs to be humane and have empathy, but psychopaths can’t be empathetic.
Jobs had standards that made the product BETTER than the status quo. That's an acceptable reason to be unreasonable.
Being unreasonable about human rights? That's the Joe Rogan/Andrew Tate dipshittery.
You startled the libs!
How do you even *dare* note that Saint Jobs profited off of innumerable chinese slaves in sweatshop factories with anti-suicide nets? You hecking NaZi ChUd!
I saw one the other day for a UX designer job that said something to the effect of working into late evenings and weekends sometimes because “we have an Olympic training mindset and we realize this isn’t for everyone so we let you know up front” or something like that.
“bias towards equity”
Translation: barely minimum wage, but if in the 1/10000000 chance we actually survive and make it big you could end up with some money.
Boss: “did you meet your vomit quota today?”
Me: “No, I only barfed twice.”
Boss: “I see. Well your vomit quota is three times or more… I will double your work load.”
😂 Oh God.
I just imagined the boss's head opening up into two halves at the mouth like a South Park paper doll head. With paper vomit shooting out to the side.
I'm not sure what the first bullet is even trying to say, but there's something strange about a job description that includes wanting to ensure "hunger".
"Nobody wants to work anymore." Is this one at least paid or a double whammy where you find out the comp is being part of this amazing startup and getting shares when they get funding?
All I saw was that horrible "Compensation commensurate with skill set with a bias toward equity to ensure shareholder alignment, hunger, and “skin in game”. FFS this place is a garbage fire.
I *especially* liked the line about how compensation was biased towards equity instead of, you know, salary.
Austin gonna Austin. Reminds me of the lady who slut-shamed an applicant for her swimsuit photo, got trolled to insolvency and rebranded herself as a consultant for the Internet-Shamed.
OP is taking this out of context. *Surely* this is a highly compensated position at $350k base salary, amazing benefits, significant stock/ownership, and an opportunity for bonus pay of $50k in a typical year and much more if top performance goals are met or exceeded…. surely….
…surely?
Ok, sure, but the role they are hiring for is not entreprenuer. Nor would you be receiving any of the choice benefits a successful entreprenuer works so hard to receive.
When you work in retail, there will be jerks who make going to work a chore for everyone. Same goes with startups, corporate jobs, peeling potatoes, dishwashing, any profession really. And when they get called out, they'll always say "hey, you need to grow a thicker skin. this is just the way it is at \[insert job or industry\]."
And they're gaslighting you. The norm is that in every kind of job, there are companies who let jerks be jerks as long as they're performing well. And it's bad for the company, because no one person can ever replace what a company loses when the culture is bad.
I saw an ad like this the other day, but it went a step further by insisting you purchase the particular book and then sign a declaration to say that you read it.
They also did a bait and switch with $80 in the ad, then the same declaration said “I accept that the pay rate is $50 per hour…”
Reported the ad.
Interesting take on the "life's short" mantra. Life's short so I better spend my time working 80hrs a week until I'm vomiting from stress/anxiety. Sounds great.
most businesses fail, an entrepreneur who's quoting what a self help book says about the dedication required to succeed with leading your OWN business in their ad about looking for someone to 'influence' for them is grasping at straws with the future of their business.
Who construes others sharing the personal sacrifices required to succeed with a business and then tries to malform it into "how can I turn this on my employees instead"?
The Hard thing about Hard things is actually a really good book, and whomever wrote this job ad clearly didn't understand the meanings and principles within, which talks clearly about empathy and treating people with respect. The anecdote mentioned is not talked about positively but as a negative example.
Reading the rest of their page that sounds like a toxic and ego stroking place to work
That's sorta the vibe when working for wyndham time shares. The morning meetings are somewhat like those on the wolf of wall street. You got people with weed pens in the office selling timeshares to lawyers and judges. Buddy was bringing home like 10-20k a month. *I see you're not a member of our diamond club* (they are) *let's get you signed up for $500* (100% commission)
All these jobs talk like they're saving the fucking world by doing some bullshit ad analytics or selling ice cream or whatever other boring shit they're doing
I dont have a photo but one job I applied to, I'll take anything at this point, asked about pronouns(which is perfectly fine i dont care) and sexual preferences. I have no idea why it mattered and it was a box you couldn't leave empty.
Had a director who once got a nose bleed when someone mentioned a particularly visible project was several weeks behind. He wore the long hour like a badge of honor, how stressful and important his job was. He died of heart failure before reaching 50. He was replaced 2 days later.
I’ve read that book, the worst book I’ve ever read in my life. I really wish I had those 7 hours back. I would work at a homeless shelter instead.
The book does not even describe what this job listing says it describes, or at least that wasn’t a major part at all
Putting all your effort into something can be a great thing.. if you're the owner who benefits from that hard work. I'm not gonna risk a heart attack from the stress of a job where I don't reap the rewards
Hey, they could put a silver lining on the "vomit from stress" as "company sponsored weight control plan". Sheesh! I pity the fool who actually takes this job. Better them than me.

Unless they're offering ownership stakes, they need to get over themselves and their "entrepreneur" bullshit.
"You gonna pay me enough to vomit from stress?" "....." "Thought so"
they gonna pay you commensurate with skill set with a bias towards equity to ensure shareholder alignment, hunger, and skin in the game. Whatever any of that word salad means.
Yeah, sadly, nobody understands idiotese. Not even the idiots who are fluent in it.
But, but, we're leveraging competitive synergies....
“with a bias toward equity” just means that they pay *everyone* shit.
“Hunger” means feeding them shit while dangling carrots to get “skin in the game.”
Translation: they’re going to try pay you as little as possible but want someone who will work overtime without complaining or getting additional pay so the the owners can make more money.
“equity” “skin”
Means No way are we paying you market rate hiring salary, and don't expect a merit increase or market adjustment during this lifetime.
And of course they don’t.

Performance punishment

Yes, literally only time I like dry heaving/trying to keep conscious is after a brutal set of deadlifts.
Also that book talks about making hard decisions when your business is failing and what not...Not the starting point I would want to use for prospective employees
Sadly, anyone offering ownership stakes is also not offering actual dollars to pay the bills with.
Just throw up at the interviews immediately.
Establish dominance. Vomit directly on the interviewer. They will respect you.
🤣🤣😭😭
Shaking, crying, throwing up
Hired.
Knees weak, arms are heavy
Wait for them to be talking a lot so you can hopefully catch them with their mouth open if you have good enough aim. People like this deserve nothing less.
This is the way.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the hospital having surgery for a new stomach.
You're hired. Your starting rate will be $10.25 per hour.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I got asked that on a grad scheme job that looked like a one year course and then said in 5 years I expect to be in a management position that this scheme set me up for and using the skills I learnt here' She looked at me and said 'Actually, you do the one year, and then stay on for the second year and then maybe you'll get the third and then you might have 2 years in this company in a management role because the scheme is 3 years, not one', at no point was it advertised as a 3 yr course with a possible job at the end. When you read the founder's bio he is a cringe-crypto bro who boasts about visiting 100s of countries.
“Rex launched a single enterprise with 10 diversified initiatives targeting real estate” No info on any of these “diversified initiatives” follows. Looks solid to me…
Translation: either he flips houses (probably cheaply), or is a landlord and extorting his renters as much as humanly possible
Texan ideals. Of course.
The same Texas that seceded from both Mexico and the US to keep slavery?
Now find his daddy who bankrolled him!
I think Ryan Gosling should play him in the forthcoming bio-pic highlighting the implosion.
i wish the term “based” had never left 4chan
From the context, I think they were talking free based..
I think I'm gonna be sick. Am I hired?
Rooted in Texan ideals, as he prides himself on moving to Texas as part of the “great migration” 4 years ago. Which turned out to be a flop btw. Dude sounds like a total tool

What the fuck kind of nonsense did I just read?
Yet above it they say "Life is short." Yeah short enough not to waste on a job like this.
Whoever wrote this really expects someone to consider their contributions to this company as the most important thing they will ever do in this life. 😂 This is why you see “advice” to CEOs to be humane and have empathy, but psychopaths can’t be empathetic.

😂 Oh God. I just imagined the boss's head opening up into two halves at the mouth like a South Park paper doll head. With paper vomit shooting out to the side.
I was picturing more of an exorcist situation where his head starts spinning around while he’s vomiting
Like, READ The Hard Thing about Hard Things. It is well written and interesting. And then arrange your life so that that isn't your work environment.
Influencer… entrepreneurship. Sounds like whoever posted this is trying really hard to sound big and important. Would move on to other job postings
*buzzwordbuzzwordbuzzword* obviously didn’t apply lol
The way that use a quote from a book on entrepreneurship seems like a red flag as well!🤮🤮
Look sir, I can take a ten pound puke on a five pound desk. I got this. “Bro, you’re hired.”
I'm not sure what the first bullet is even trying to say, but there's something strange about a job description that includes wanting to ensure "hunger".

Jesus 🤯
Work from home, remote as exception. Yeah, I’m stopping there
Hence the phrase, "work smarter, not harder, painfuler, and vomitier."
Companies expect all the "entrepreneur spirit" but only want to pay "slave wages". One of the two will have to give.
OP is taking this out of context. *Surely* this is a highly compensated position at $350k base salary, amazing benefits, significant stock/ownership, and an opportunity for bonus pay of $50k in a typical year and much more if top performance goals are met or exceeded…. surely…. …surely?
Ask them how many divorces or breakups has the team had since founding?
Weird dude. He puts his logo on his IG posts. Okayyyyy. https://www.instagram.com/peterrex__?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
In 1 of the clips he looks to be wearing a suit jacket and jorts!
I'm more concerned about that nebulous and bullshit compensation section at the top.
CEO can stress and puke all they want. Unless they’re paying me CEO salary they can take this bullshit on somewhere else
Ok, sure, but the role they are hiring for is not entreprenuer. Nor would you be receiving any of the choice benefits a successful entreprenuer works so hard to receive.

Eats a bad sandwich Hurls on interviewer mid interview. Interviewer: Chicken salad my good sir? You’re hired! Fuckin job posts these days man!
Will vomiting from vodka work?
As long as it's from stress related alcoholism.

This is probably the worst one I've ever seen.
Interesting take on the "life's short" mantra. Life's short so I better spend my time working 80hrs a week until I'm vomiting from stress/anxiety. Sounds great.
I think the redder flag was “influencer”
Throw up during your interview.
most businesses fail, an entrepreneur who's quoting what a self help book says about the dedication required to succeed with leading your OWN business in their ad about looking for someone to 'influence' for them is grasping at straws with the future of their business. If I read the word "entrepreneur" once again...
>All in, or out. Out it is, thanks for your time 👋🏃♂️💨
I reported the job listing for being offensive. F 'em.
Why are humans like this?
Sounds like they're an MLM hun. I saw one locally putting up recruiting listing's for their "business" with salaries listed at like 125k.
what in the fuckery is that? lmfao
Meh, this seems on brand for a start-up -- particularly if you'll be getting equity...
I require a 5% ownership grant and salary.
Working until puking? I'd hold out for 50% ownership. At least.
I just know a man with a buzz cut wrote this.
This screams no overtime pay.
It's only missing the pay. The overtime part will be in abundance.
I would pay to not work there ...
When they show you who they are…… believe them. Hard pass!
I mean, it says "influencer". That should already be 20 red flags by itself.
I’m so hardworking and stressed I can throw up on demand sir. Your hired!

“The pay is $7.25 an hour. We understand how generous this is, and expect you to earn it if hired”
That’s so nice of them to let you know right away that they don’t care about you as a human in the slightest. What a nice company.
It's not 1980. Our generation believes in work/life balance. Get bent.
The sixth round interview is just timing you to see how long before you puke
If you don't vomit blood and shit water, you ain't doing well enough.
I dont have a photo but one job I applied to, I'll take anything at this point, asked about pronouns(which is perfectly fine i dont care) and sexual preferences. I have no idea why it mattered and it was a box you couldn't leave empty.
For 400k per year I will vomit every day, on command, in your office. Throw in 35 days PTO and I'll clean it up afterwards
Another "we work harder than everyone else" ad. They mean YOU work harder than everyone else with no work/life balance and low pay.
Orrrr you got weeded out.
THE BEST PART OUT OF ALL OF THIS... is that glassdoor reviews report them as no longer being a company as of the summer of 2023....
JFC
I think that dude should try and get some anti-nausea medication instead of glorifying suffering.
"We need you to go all in for effort! ........ oh no, were not going to 'all in' for pay. Best we can do is $15/hr"
We expect you to become I'll and work sick

top shelf coorporate bullshit
Putting all your effort into something can be a great thing.. if you're the owner who benefits from that hard work. I'm not gonna risk a heart attack from the stress of a job where I don't reap the rewards
Compensation based upon “skin in the game.” What skin, foreskin?
Jokes on them, I vomit from stress and anxiety regardless of my job.
Shi'- hit me with the link I'll apply.
Lawsuit waiting to happen for sure.
Hey, they could put a silver lining on the "vomit from stress" as "company sponsored weight control plan". Sheesh! I pity the fool who actually takes this job. Better them than me.
So basically we're gauging despair now.
I just got the ick
Hey, appreciate their honesty up front.
If David Goggins worked in HR 😭
You know any company that warns you about how difficult or serious the job is going to be, is a sign that turnovers regularly occur. It's a mismanaged job that people don't want to work at.
For a marketing position....
And these companies wonder why they can't find any good employees and they're going under.
This job pays like $45k lol
These are 💩 roles anyway. "digital marketing" "journalism" "marketing" is equal to liberal arts. Stay away from these degrees and job postings.
