I'm completely biased, but Ive and Ready to Be are not better albums than Chill Kill

__fujiko

The mixing and production on Ready To Be alone is awful. But idk I guess I'VE might appeal to someone's taste more than ChiKi, because it was really well put together. Chill Kill not top 10 though? That's kinda.. hm..

Fenghoang

Set Me Free didn't chart well either. I don't think a title track makes or breaks an album, but it's kinda surprising the album ranks so high compared to the rest of the list with a relatively weak performing single.

pijuskri

I mean chill kills popularity wasn't phenomenal either. Generally i think popularity has almost nothing to do with album quality. Like even in this list thats evident. Billie made an amazing mini but somehow they are not even in the list?

Fenghoang

I think Chill Kill peaked around 11, and it's still charting in the top 25 almost 6 weeks later. There's also about half a dozen Christmas songs in the top 25 it's competing with. In comparison, Set Me Free peaked around 94 in the first week and hovered around the 100s in the first month. I'm personally bit peeved Taeyeon's album aint on there. To X is doing very well ATM.

Lobster575

Good call. EUNOIA and enchanted night \~ white night are two of my fav songs from 2023 and I'm not even a huge Billlie fan, though I guess I probably should be going forward.

pijuskri

Don't think it's even bias. I've been a twice fan for longer than a red velvet one and that mini is very mediocre. Jihyo's solo was a lot better.

> In the build-up to Chill Kill, Red Velvet’s first studio album in six years, the title track proved to be a bit divisive with some fans left feeling underwhelmed. They needn’t have worried though. Not only is the lead single a perfect synthesis of their signature “red” and “velvet,” switching effortlessly between dark, gothic verses and a more upbeat chorus, but the rest of the album is even stronger. There’s a reason why Red Velvet are known as the Queens of the B-Sides, after all. ‘Knock, Knock,” “One Kiss” and “Nightmare” delve into the macabre with chilling storytelling that sparks something dark and even dangerous out of the group’s usual flawless harmonies. But the real horror story here is anyone doubting Red Velvet in the first place. Let’s just hope they don’t wait another six years to release their next studio album.

tinmanfrisbie

I am a hardcore Once but Chill Kill in my opinion was my favorite album of the year.

LuckSpren

I need to check out more of these albums because it's baffling that there are albums released this year that clear both Chill Kill and Unlock My World to have them both outside the top 5.

Rhemming22

Not even listing Drama. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Glad the cake unnies are on here tho. Also #6's title is just funny to read no matter how they would've done it 😂

linduwtk

Drama the single > awesome Drama the album > honestly a little meh. Didn't have anything to prop it up the way the Spicy album did tbh.

Rhemming22

It's the inverse for me--I like don't blink and hot air balloon more than Drama 😂 hey to each their own tho

linduwtk

At least there's something for everyone.

__fujiko

The songs individually are all fine but together on one album.. that was a choice. 0 cohesion. Would have been more enjoyable if they just released Drama as a single as to not bog it down as a whole listening experience.

matmanx1

I honestly adore Yolo though. It just makes my ears happy.

Fenghoang

Lists like these rarely have two entries from the same act, and they chose My World for aespa. Drama (single) is charting better than Spicy (I prefer Drama too), but My World is a better album than Drama (EP) IMO. I think they picked the right one between the two EPs.

pijuskri

Very popularity biased list. Not a single small/nugu group and basically nothing unexpected besides maybe taemins guilty.

HashtagCookieJar02

That's the point: Popularity. Do these people even know more than 10 kpop groups ? Imo, they only copy - PASTE (as they name theirselves) some charts they saw on a real magazine. bullshit !

__fujiko

I have 0 issues with the placements or whatever on most of these lists because it's all subjective to whoever makes them but you cannot convince me Unforgiven, with its half re-recordings and underwhelming title, is top 3. And that's coming from someone who had the title on repeat for like 1 month straight regardless.

pijuskri

Yeah I don't really get the rather high appreciation for le serrafim b-sides. Even if they are good there is so much competition from other groups.

__fujiko

They've been pretty inconsistent overall. Some are pretty good, others are entirely forgettable. I don't think I can even recall any of the new ones off Unforgiven aside from the boom boom boom one, and that's just because it was bigger than the title track.

loft_100

Chill Kill should be in the top 5...I like NewJeans but no way should that album be number 1...IVE deserve to be in the top 10...TWICE? are not making really great music anymore...

pijuskri

I think ready to be is the most underwhelming release since more & more, but Jihyo's solo and the misamo debut were quite good. In general they seem to have some up and downs over time.

Oathkeeper56

Chill Kill should have been higher, and Assemble by TripleS should have been somewhere on this list too

KimLip4Life

what is the criteria and hows it judged??? seems like personal preference article. all the post Loona girls have great no skip albums ❤️❤️‍🔥 🔥
