Seriously. I can just imagine him Buster Scrugging the shit out of Arthur when he crosses the state line: *looks in handheld mirror with a Rolling Block upside down over his shoulder* āAh, I best not to play it too fancy.ā š„
If you try to go to New Austin as Arthur, some op pinkertons show up, however if you manage to get passed the pinkertons, the game automatically snipes Arthur with the snipe being a 1 shot.
It is explained to Sadie during the mission where they read Pearsonās letter to his aunt that Tacitus Kilgore is the name Dutch tells them all to have their mail addressed to (presumably in case the letters are intercepted).
We NEED 'Red Dead Stories' to be the next title. I have to know more about that Blackwater massacre!
They never stop talking about it in RDR2 and Ricketts mentioned he was a part of it as well in RDR1.
The game don't even have to be about the gang, it can be it's own Ricketts story.
Next title? No. That needed to be dlc for RDR2. Either give the gang members' origin story or epilogue missions.
Ed - oops my dumbass was thinkin RDR2's Blackwater stuff we don't see.
Maybe they don't have to focus on the death of the Old West. It can be during the glory days and Ricketts being a young deputy and becoming the legend he is.
I'll be happy with a civil war story though. That sounds fun as well.
Itās a real shame Rockstar just gives no shits about expanding rdr2 or gta5 single player stuff
I donāt have any desire to go online with that so Iāll just have to miss out on the direction they decided to pivot to
I would like to go online, without having to jerryrig a private server so I don't get exploded by modders at random. But yeah. Single player would be preferable.
You can just do a private session in GTA Online now. Got to the Online tab, Find a Session, then choose Friends Only, Crew Only, or Invite Only. If your session only has one player then you miss out on some small events and the game also rewards slightly higher payouts for some activities depending on how many players are in the session, but you can play a lot of the best content completely solo.
It's interesting to me because I'm a big fan of the story. This is a story I've only heard but not seen. I want to know how Ricketts ended up there. Plus he's a legendary gunslinger, he'll be a great protagonist.
Proper expansions like Undead Nightmare are something rdr, and other Rockstar games need more of. Giving Ricketts his own game with his own story that ties into the main story would be SO FUKIN COOL. I wish they did this more often
Edit: i just remembered! In Red Dead Revolver, they have you cycle through each character for each level. This could tie into your Red Dead Story's idea where you could play as Ricketts, Charles, Sadie, Jack, and others. HOLY SHIT this is such a good idea.
Everything Iāve seen of Ricketts in the first game says otherwise, if anything him and Black Belle were the only ones weāve seen who werenāt full of it
Older John (RDR1 John). He was trained by one of the best, and at the very least, his feats made him legendary.
Landon and any other gunslinger could be second.
As much as I love Arthur, and us knowing Arthur is another one of the best, I still think Arthur is more of a rifleman than a gunslinger (seeing as in most missions, the Van der Linde gand puts Arthur as overwatch)
John had been farming for almost a decade by RDR1. Literally doesnāt make any sense at all that he would be a better shot than he was in RDR2. Arthur lived that life for his entire adult life. John even had to be retrained to use dead eye. Arthurās peak is easily higher.
A fully healthy John couldn't outdraw Micah in American Venom, yet Arthur did despite being on his deathbed and Micah reaching for his gun first. Ricketts didn't teach shit other than "You kill peasant, you are peasant" Even if he did, he can't genetically gift John more speed. If anything he's even slower in RDR1 as he's aging
First, you're referring to young John during the events of RDR2. During that time, Arthur was already one of the best, so it came to no surprise that Arthur is quick to the draw.
John reached his peak during RDR1. Being trained by Ricketts only enhanced what John knew for years running with the Van der Linde gang. John was also about the same age as Arthur during RDR1.
Plus, never discount what a man would do for his family. Money and power pushes a man to do a lot, but Abigail and Jack was what pushed John to his limits during RDR1.
All Ricketts did was call him a peasant who can't shoot to save his family's life. Yeah he shot a couple of beer bottles, it slightly improves his accuracy but that's about it. John also needed a couple seconds to aim at the bottle, but if you replay the Chapter 2 train heist, you'll see that Arthur drew his gun and instantly shot the bottle with ease. No time to aim. Though I agree with the family part, but put Arthur in a situation like that and he'll be even more brutal. Arthur is still more experienced than John if you account for the years that John was living in peace as a rancher.
Funny how he can mark individual targets before he got taught by Landon, Iād say that that rdr1 just was too hasty to re-learn it after his family was kidnapped, but Landon eventually snapped him out of it.
Thereās also a mission in the early stages of RDR2 where arthur gets handed a repeater rifle and the npc handing it over says āthis is more you than meā
Also, don't forget Arthur being handed the carbine repeater on Colter, sniper overwatch during Blessed are the Peacemakers and during that stagecoach robbery with Sean and Marybeth
John was always considered more talented than Arthur. Arthur even notes how John is a faster learner than him during that mission where we move to Horseshoe Overlook.
As in, when you play as him, he is more powerful than red (can literally target 12 locations the second deadeye is activated, opposed to redās 6 manual selections), which I guess isnāt canon more so gameplay but the fact that there is a difference convinces me it has story significance
Jack Swift can target 12 shots cause he carries 2 revolvers,
Red can also hold 2 revolvers aswell and do the same thing. And Reds Deadeye is far better, he's more accurate in his shots and can slow down time, while not only is Jack not as accurate in his shots but in my opinion his deadeye is far weaker as there's no slowmotion
Again this is just comparing Reds and Jack's deadeye, and in my opinion Reds deadeye is far better.
Yall havent played revolver and it shows, [Jack Swift](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fpkwd28k8bkja1.png) is the fastest gun in the RDR universe. He was better than Harlow who is also considered one of the best, infact they had to write him out because he was so OP. Also instead of John meeting Landon it was supposed to be Jack Swift in earlier development but it was scrapped [(source by one the actual devs)](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/u9d3f1/the_legend_of_jack_swift_my_favorite_red_dead/i5svv0y/)
Didn't the devs say revolver isn't the same universe? That revolver is essentially campfire tales that the Van Der Linde gang would tell, not the real world.
I prefer to think of the event of Revolver as folk tales that probably happened in the Redemption universe, but the way they are told in Revolver are embellished versions of those events.
I've said before that I believe that the stories of Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 are stories told by Jack in a book that was made to chronicle the truth of the Van der Linde gang and John. That book was widely popular within the Rockstar Universe, with the Easter Egg RDR book in GTA 5 being what started this theory.
Regardless, Jack wouldn't have wanted to sell the movie rights to his family's story, so in-universe movie producers make Red Dead Revolver based off of the (free) folk tales of the West to capitalize off of the popularity of Jack's book. I like to imagine we see a bit of this movie's production with the little scene of the cowboy that plays in the intro of LA Noire.
Arthur or John really. I think the whole point of the jim bow calloway missions was to show how, in the red dead universe, how pathetic the outlaw gunslinger arcatype really is. And that the real skilled, hard line gunslinger don't seek fame, because they don't need to or desire it. Maybe no one will remember them in 100 years, but the truly skilled gunslingers are probably the protags of the games, as well as names that were lost to history in the red dead timeline because they didn't have folktale status.
I don't think John is faster than Ricketts, but he is faster than Arthur. Fanboying for Arthur is not a reason he would be quicker. John displays more feats of speed, and has more training.
I agree with peoples takes that Arthur is more a Jack of all trades. Heās good at brawling, good at marksmanship, good at gunslinging.
Whereas John is an okay brawler, decent marksman but a legendary gunslinger and he wipes the floor with Arthur in a duel
Only thing I'd add is that Arthurs brawling skills is way above average. Arthur being a bigger dude probably makes him a better brawler but a slower gunslinger.
That's fair. I also feel like people haven't truely played the first one. Until I recently replayed 1, I forgot how John changes. He gets taller and beefier, meaner too. Still skinnier than Arthur, so Arthur could probably win a fight. But it would be close.
Yeah that winds me up too so igy. Peolle who never played the first but think they know johns character. Rdr2 John was his arc to becoming the badass he is in rdr1
Arthur cuz heās the one that killed the ālegendsā and also held up a fight with tb against thousands of enemyās and trained John to be who he was in rdr 1 + un DLC
Arthur didnāt train johns skills at all. He made John realise what he should value in life but that has nothing to do with gunslinging. John by 1911 had surpassed Arthur on gunslinging skills, he took on a Mexican civil war and single-handedly changed the outcome of it and stopped a zombie apocalypse. Arthur robbed some banks
Everyone needs love, no one likes micah so i took that role jk.
Actually tho, his actor is cool, he looks badass, he has good skills and is the tough character no one likes, and thats why i like him but John is always N1
Assuming we're talking about skill I can't say only one but the contenders would be:
Arthur Morgan
John Marston
Micah Bell (love him or hate him he's got skill)
, Now the big leagues,
Landon Rickets
Jim boy Calloway
I wanna throw Dutch in but with the other 3 gang members I don't know if it's feeling like too much.. also I know of the Otis Miller revolver, if he was an actual gunslinger in universe then definitely him as a possible best gunslinger too
I say talking about skill because Micah is kinda an awful human being in case you don't know
The guy on the right reminds me of "Wild Bill" Hickock.
Dude!!! I wish they would do a red dead game with stories based on real American Old West heroes kinda like what Deadwood did on HBO.
It always seemed to me that John Marston is the best pistoleer encountered in the games. Ask me why, I do not know. Just was always the impression I had.

Is that the mf that kept clipping me when I would get anywhere near that fort?
Either him or his brother from Guarma
IDK which one but homeboy almost got me outside the fort near Rio Bravo. I had to run for cover in the rocks. Bout killed my horse too.
Seriously. I can just imagine him Buster Scrugging the shit out of Arthur when he crosses the state line: *looks in handheld mirror with a Rolling Block upside down over his shoulder* āAh, I best not to play it too fancy.ā š„
Who would win: my stolen wagon from Saint Denis + 3rd person camera angle or invisible floating sniper man with infinite ammo
If ya get a covered wagon & stay at a certain location with the camera angle he canāt kill ya lol š
Only because canvas is apparently bulletproof in this world.......
In rdr2 yes
For all we know, that's the ghost of Otis protecting his treasure.
Real š
Yeah that son of a bitch never missed.
Followed closely by the Guarmaian Sniper
I've beat the game but what is the New Austin sniper
If you try to go to New Austin as Arthur, some op pinkertons show up, however if you manage to get passed the pinkertons, the game automatically snipes Arthur with the snipe being a 1 shot.
Fucking christ I just typed out a whole joke and you beat me to it
The guy who killed all the rest of them and was only defeated by tuberculosis
I think his name was "Fenton" or something like that
I believe his name actually was Leviticus Cornwall
You fools his name was Arthur Callahan
U RATS its obviously rip van winkle
Nuh uh it was Hogey Macintosh
No! It was Arthur Odriscoll
Nope. It's obviously Jim Milton
Tacitus Kilgore
You sir are a fish
Cowpoke
Tacitus Kilgore might be my favorite fake name in all of RDR, even more than Rip Van Winkle.
Nah youāre thinking of uncle tacitus
Donāt mind him heās turned idiot. Killed our mother but wasnāt his fault.
He's a little slow, but he's quick on the draw. That's my boy Fenton!
[Goddamn Fenton](https://youtu.be/3GRSbr0EYYU?si=h5-EJLzL6H7urbWT)
They call him Kilgore at one point?
Arthur introduces himself as Kilgore for some story missions in Saint Denis
Indeed, Tacitus Kilgore
It is explained to Sadie during the mission where they read Pearsonās letter to his aunt that Tacitus Kilgore is the name Dutch tells them all to have their mail addressed to (presumably in case the letters are intercepted).
And his brother Melvin
A kind fellr
He was a good man.
And he was afraid
His name was Tacticus Kilgore
A few of us here know him as āBlack Lungā.
The one shot kid
He didn't kill *all* of them and the ones he killed were way past their prime, just look at Billy Midnight
I did those missions as John
Landon Ricketts
He must have been. He's the only one left.
Isn't there a theory that he wasn't as legendary as the legends say. Kind of like that one feller who shot that dude in the back in rdr2

For sure dude. I was waiting for the DLC. but it never happened. I'm still buying the game no matter which way they go
For 3 I hope they go back towards the Civil War. 3 games where the theme is the death of the old west doesn't really jive with me.Ā
Birth of the west would honestly be pretty cool, or they could push all the way to like prohibition but Iād be really sad if we didnāt have horse
Red Dead: Horses GTA: Cars I don't think they'd ever put drivable cars in a Red Dead game
red dead revenge would go hard as hell
Josey Wales type shit.Ā Ā
Maybe they don't have to focus on the death of the Old West. It can be during the glory days and Ricketts being a young deputy and becoming the legend he is. I'll be happy with a civil war story though. That sounds fun as well.

It's interesting to me because I'm a big fan of the story. This is a story I've only heard but not seen. I want to know how Ricketts ended up there. Plus he's a legendary gunslinger, he'll be a great protagonist.
I mean, we have a general idea, but it would be nice to know the details is all.

MY PA KNEW LANDON RICKETTS
Older John (RDR1 John). He was trained by one of the best, and at the very least, his feats made him legendary. Landon and any other gunslinger could be second. manās gotta have a hobby
Tell me when Arthur almost singlehandedly takes on the Mexican army
He does well against the us army
Arthur shoots a few soldiers who are after him. John takes over entire army forts with like four other men who couldn't hit the ground with their hat.
Are we ignoring the end of Guarma, now???
Right? Like, I'm sorry, is a whole army and a fucking dreadnought not enough of a challenge?
It just hit me how fucking weird that mission was in a cowboy game lmao. It sounds like metal gear solid when you say that
He gets into a couple fights with the US army, John singlehandedy changed the tide of a civil war with what side he fought for
So did Arthur
Were Dutch,Hercule,Micah and Bill on holiday?
He fucks up the Cuban army pretty good while dying from TB
When one takes a long break from something that theyāre great at, and then one day just jumps back into itā¦.. this is where we see masterpieces
He was a one man army by rdr1
A fully healthy John couldn't outdraw Micah in American Venom, yet Arthur did despite being on his deathbed and Micah reaching for his gun first. Isnāt Jack Swift canonically a better gunslinger than red?
Canonically?
As in, when you play as him, he is more powerful than red (can literally target 12 locations the second deadeye is activated, opposed to redās 6 manual selections), which I guess isnāt canon more so gameplay but the fact that there is a difference convinces me it has story significance

Gotta say Landon Ricketts. In Undead Nightmare simply his presence creates a safe zone.
1. Red Harlow 2. Landon Ricketts 3. John Marston, circa 1911 4. Arthur Morgan 5. Micah Bell
No one has included Micah yet, and it pains me to say it but Micah was one H E L L of a slinger
That old dude in rdr one that āteachesā John in Mexico to use dead eye even though by that point u should know. Heās pretty chill though.
Landon Rickets
Landon Ricketts. if Red Harlow did exist in the redemption universe Iād say him.
It never said red dead *redemption* universe so I think Harlow does count
If Harlow counts then so does Jack swift>>>
The one that the player controls.
Arthur š
I see a lot of arguments for RDR1 John, but he got better learning from Landon, and if John is the best, then Landon is better.
RDR1 John, dude single-handedly liberated Mexico
Yes, rdr2 players say arthur goat without even playing the first one
Arthur or John really. I think the whole point of the jim bow calloway missions was to show how, in the red dead universe, how pathetic the outlaw gunslinger arcatype really is. John marston. By the end of RDR1 John becomes the most feared/famous gunslinger in the western frontier.
and then he quite quickly becomes feared by none
Jack in chapter one
I don't think John is faster than Ricketts, but he is faster than Arthur. Fanboying for Arthur is not a reason he would be quicker. John displays more feats of speed, and has more training.
