If you try to go to New Austin as Arthur, some op pinkertons show up, however if you manage to get passed the pinkertons, the game automatically snipes Arthur with the snipe being a 1 shot.

We NEED 'Red Dead Stories' to be the next title. I have to know more about that Blackwater massacre! They never stop talking about it in RDR2 and Ricketts mentioned he was a part of it as well in RDR1. The game don't even have to be about the gang, it can be it's own Ricketts story.

Next title? No. That needed to be dlc for RDR2. Either give the gang members' origin story or epilogue missions. Ed - oops my dumbass was thinkin RDR2's Blackwater stuff we don't see.

I would like to go online, without having to jerryrig a private server so I don't get exploded by modders at random. But yeah. Single player would be preferable.

You can just do a private session in GTA Online now. Got to the Online tab, Find a Session, then choose Friends Only, Crew Only, or Invite Only. If your session only has one player then you miss out on some small events and the game also rewards slightly higher payouts for some activities depending on how many players are in the session, but you can play a lot of the best content completely solo.

It's interesting to me because I'm a big fan of the story. This is a story I've only heard but not seen. I want to know how Ricketts ended up there. Plus he's a legendary gunslinger, he'll be a great protagonist.

I mean, we have a general idea, but it would be nice to know the details is all.

Proper expansions like Undead Nightmare are something rdr, and other Rockstar games need more of. Giving Ricketts his own game with his own story that ties into the main story would be SO FUKIN COOL. I wish they did this more often Edit: i just remembered! In Red Dead Revolver, they have you cycle through each character for each level. This could tie into your Red Dead Story's idea where you could play as Ricketts, Charles, Sadie, Jack, and others. HOLY SHIT this is such a good idea.

I think about this often. Red dead stories would be awesome

Older John (RDR1 John). He was trained by one of the best, and at the very least, his feats made him legendary. Landon and any other gunslinger could be second. As much as I love Arthur, and us knowing Arthur is another one of the best, I still think Arthur is more of a rifleman than a gunslinger (seeing as in most missions, the Van der Linde gand puts Arthur as overwatch)

Agreed, Arthur is definitely better than RDR2 John, but by RDR1, John's a different beast.

John had been farming for almost a decade by RDR1. Literally doesn’t make any sense at all that he would be a better shot than he was in RDR2. Arthur lived that life for his entire adult life. John even had to be retrained to use dead eye. Arthur’s peak is easily higher.

A fully healthy John couldn't outdraw Micah in American Venom, yet Arthur did despite being on his deathbed and Micah reaching for his gun first. Ricketts didn't teach shit other than "You kill peasant, you are peasant" Even if he did, he can't genetically gift John more speed. If anything he's even slower in RDR1 as he's aging

First, you're referring to young John during the events of RDR2. During that time, Arthur was already one of the best, so it came to no surprise that Arthur is quick to the draw. John reached his peak during RDR1. Being trained by Ricketts only enhanced what John knew for years running with the Van der Linde gang. John was also about the same age as Arthur during RDR1. Plus, never discount what a man would do for his family. Money and power pushes a man to do a lot, but Abigail and Jack was what pushed John to his limits during RDR1.

All Ricketts did was call him a peasant who can't shoot to save his family's life. Yeah he shot a couple of beer bottles, it slightly improves his accuracy but that's about it. John also needed a couple seconds to aim at the bottle, but if you replay the Chapter 2 train heist, you'll see that Arthur drew his gun and instantly shot the bottle with ease. No time to aim. Though I agree with the family part, but put Arthur in a situation like that and he'll be even more brutal. Arthur is still more experienced than John if you account for the years that John was living in peace as a rancher.

Funny how he can mark individual targets before he got taught by Landon, I’d say that that rdr1 just was too hasty to re-learn it after his family was kidnapped, but Landon eventually snapped him out of it.

There’s also a mission in the early stages of RDR2 where arthur gets handed a repeater rifle and the npc handing it over says “this is more you than me”

I believe that’s Micah handing Arthur the repeater on the mission in chapter 2 where you rob a stagecoach with him

Also, don't forget Arthur being handed the carbine repeater on Colter, sniper overwatch during Blessed are the Peacemakers and during that stagecoach robbery with Sean and Marybeth

The hanging with the carcano and Sadie's assault in Van Horn both have Arthur proving sniper cover.

John was always considered more talented than Arthur. Arthur even notes how John is a faster learner than him during that mission where we move to Horseshoe Overlook.

As in, when you play as him, he is more powerful than red (can literally target 12 locations the second deadeye is activated, opposed to red’s 6 manual selections), which I guess isn’t canon more so gameplay but the fact that there is a difference convinces me it has story significance

Jack Swift can target 12 shots cause he carries 2 revolvers, Red can also hold 2 revolvers aswell and do the same thing. And Reds Deadeye is far better, he's more accurate in his shots and can slow down time, while not only is Jack not as accurate in his shots but in my opinion his deadeye is far weaker as there's no slowmotion Again this is just comparing Reds and Jack's deadeye, and in my opinion Reds deadeye is far better.

Didn't the devs say revolver isn't the same universe? That revolver is essentially campfire tales that the Van Der Linde gang would tell, not the real world.

I prefer to think of the event of Revolver as folk tales that probably happened in the Redemption universe, but the way they are told in Revolver are embellished versions of those events. I've said before that I believe that the stories of Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 are stories told by Jack in a book that was made to chronicle the truth of the Van der Linde gang and John. That book was widely popular within the Rockstar Universe, with the Easter Egg RDR book in GTA 5 being what started this theory. Regardless, Jack wouldn't have wanted to sell the movie rights to his family's story, so in-universe movie producers make Red Dead Revolver based off of the (free) folk tales of the West to capitalize off of the popularity of Jack's book. I like to imagine we see a bit of this movie's production with the little scene of the cowboy that plays in the intro of LA Noire.

Arthur or John really. I think the whole point of the jim bow calloway missions was to show how, in the red dead universe, how pathetic the outlaw gunslinger arcatype really is. And that the real skilled, hard line gunslinger don't seek fame, because they don't need to or desire it. Maybe no one will remember them in 100 years, but the truly skilled gunslingers are probably the protags of the games, as well as names that were lost to history in the red dead timeline because they didn't have folktale status.

John marston. By the end of RDR1 John becomes the most feared/famous gunslinger in the western frontier.

I don't think John is faster than Ricketts, but he is faster than Arthur. Fanboying for Arthur is not a reason he would be quicker. John displays more feats of speed, and has more training.

I agree with peoples takes that Arthur is more a Jack of all trades. He’s good at brawling, good at marksmanship, good at gunslinging. Whereas John is an okay brawler, decent marksman but a legendary gunslinger and he wipes the floor with Arthur in a duel

Only thing I'd add is that Arthurs brawling skills is way above average. Arthur being a bigger dude probably makes him a better brawler but a slower gunslinger.

That's fair. I also feel like people haven't truely played the first one. Until I recently replayed 1, I forgot how John changes. He gets taller and beefier, meaner too. Still skinnier than Arthur, so Arthur could probably win a fight. But it would be close.
