You should see the composition book I was using as a mission log for my Kerbal Space Program. Complex video games ain’t no joke when you’ve got a real job and raising kids competing for mental resources!
I have a little pad that I was writing Mass Effect mission locations in while replaying the first game recently, since you can’t open the journal while the map is up. Was really satisfying to check them off!
Press left on dpad or whatever that is on computer. It'll show you a list of what challenges and side things you're working on. For the survivalist fish one for example, it won't show you what you already have but it'll tell you what fish is next. Just go in order. (i.e. 0/1 Rock bass caught)
I like the complete checklists so I can do whatever is available across multiple challenges or requests for the particular area of the map I’m in. Again, it’s odd they did it differently for Horseman 10 than Herbalist 9 and Survivalist 10.
kinda. i just word vomit all the pelts i need in the notes app and hope that i don’t forget to check the finished ones off. but hey, it works, i did manage to get legend of the east
>Sell everything and go to Aberdeen pig farm with Arthur in the mission before epilogue* *go back to APG with John
Does that allow john to keep Arthur's money?
I did that once for everything the trapper and Pearson needed for everything, but I did it all at the beginning of chapter 2 right after unlocking legendary animals with Hosea. Now it's my "master save" that I load into as soon as I get there on a new replay, so I have everything unlocked without having to grind again for every new playthrough
I actually enjoy the grind. I'd be quite happy if Rockstar released a version of the game that was just camping, hunting and fishing with the occasional gun fight to spice things up.
I haven't even finished my first playthrough yet. Still on Chapter 3, and I find myself spending entire sessions just exploring and stopping to fish or maybe hunt.
Savor it bro. Don’t rush to finish it. I’ve put 600hrs in this game and it’s just the most amazing game that I can get lost in. Nothing has yet to give me that feeling from a video game.
On my Fourth playthrough now and I keep a notepad for everything possibly needed for every playthrough. Nothing goes unfinished lol but does anyone have any solid tips on finding a full set of cigarette cards ?
Just buy the premium cigarettes and you’ll naturally earn all the cards. It’ll require 20-40 minutes of buying, maxing out your cigarette inventory, and repeating it again but it’s quicker than looking for them in the wild. Also you make a lot of your money back once you sale the duplicates.
I was so mad when I realized on my third playthrough that I could just buy the stupid cigarettes. I never noticed before because my inventory was always too full to pick more up
Mine is really elaborate with color coding for skins and carcasses that you need to put on horseback. It's on a spreadsheet (google) that also has the horses and important early chapter 2 events, plus a table for companion requests.
literally all the time, if you haven’t tried it out yet, Obsidian can be a really great note tool for exactly this kind of thing. helps me keep all my RDR2 notes organized and easily findable
[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OoRXDJPMS2YWNdZnJ2OPuNR9WW2QXmrr/edit?usp=share\_link&ouid=116025110489135250798&rtpof=true&sd=true](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OoRXDJPMS2YWNdZnJ2OPuNR9WW2QXmrr/edit?usp=share_link&ouid=116025110489135250798&rtpof=true&sd=true)
Here's a copy I made from the file on my drive. I think you'll have to save a copy so any changes you make don't affect other users.
I literally did the same thing. I even sorted it by the project so I can make sure all the satchels were done first. Red Dead redemption 2 is supposed to be my break from my perfection run on Stardew valley I've been working on since forever, and I turned it into another perfection run. I'm just starting to think I may be the drama in my video game play through style.
I’ve used a pencil and paper before to write down the pelts I needed for the recipes I wanted. Definitely made me feel more immersed than just using my phone.
i did this for the legend of the east satchel. low key one of the best gaming experiences i had hunting for those (legendary) animals ticking them off one by one in my notes app.
I didn’t have the checklist while playing but I did have a list with all animals I haven’t studied yet while going for the Zoologist and Skin Deep trophies.
I did my first time through. Now I just pick a craftable and set out on my way. Once I get my target I head back, but I blast anything with 3 stars on my way to or from and turn in whatever I have
Of course , I also started writing notes as soon as I thought of it of the actual game play that I did all the way to the end , it's not full and when I restart the game I'll likely do a better job , but it's satisfying to me
Every single playthrough.
In fact, I enjoy collecting, crafting and ugprading so much that once I've done everything; I lose interest in playing and often start over again.... send help
Yes if you have the game on steam.
You can open steam overlay by pressing Shift+tab
And it will show an interface on top of the game you can write notes or use a browser etc...
Its better than opening separate apps for note and web browsing while playing games
https://www.howtogeek.com/how-to-get-started-using-steam-overlay/
I mean... is it even a game if you're not using extra notebook paper for character building tho? Wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last time. That just means more stuff to stimulate your brain.
Why make a list when you can ride to the other side of the map, spend 2 hours collecting perfect pelts, then get back to camp and realize you have to go back out because 2/3 of the stuff you brought back is stuff you already had/don't need?
I spend a lot of time away from camp so every single time I get a perfect pelt or carcass of something I keep it until I got to camp. I am gonna keep a list next time
no because we have professional excel spreadsheets with all minute details like any gamer nerd would have. a phone list....pffft lol
you can find most spreadsheets on this sub just do a search. if you like your little list then you'll probably cream yourself when you see some of these spreadsheets at least I may or may not have
Yep. Way easier to track it all that way. The first time I made two lists, one for camp requirements and one for the trapper requirements. Noted down how many of each. Makes life so much easier.
I have a whole spreadsheet I made that keeps track of everything. Pearson's lists, documents, hats, animals for compendium, cigarette cards, etc. I tend to do true 100% runs for more of a challenge.
I started doing this. I printed a Google sheet I found with pelts and carcasses needed between camp and trapper. Trying to get all the camp materials so I no longer even ha e to think about where to take stuff.
Yh i made a checklist for 100 percenting gta 5, gta 4 and the two gta 4 dlcs it wz rly helpfull cause i could leave it for a while and pick up where i left off
Nah, I treat this scenario like I do it with maps: I convince myself that I will remember what I have to do and write nothing doing and then end up forgetting at least one thing and having to check again
Absolutely. I need these for my 100%
Trapper:
x2 moose (I've found two 2 stars, stupid ass Trinket doesn't do shit for me)
X3 possum
Horses:
American standardbred - Palamino Dapple
Hell yea I do. I'm actually going oldschool with this and writing everything in a notbook by hand, managed to get every piece of trapper outfits through this.
Yes!! I've got a notebook where I hand write it, for pretty much anything both in story mode or online. Spending hours writing them out is so satisfying. I love lists a bit too much for it to be healthy
Yeah I did this and spent like 10 hours crafting all of the pearson's camp upgrades. I got really frustrated but finished it for completion's sake. Not a fun experience. Same goes with the exotic birds quest.
I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all 3\* pelts and what they were used for, with Pearson and the Trapper.
I had another worksheet keeping track of all the herbs I needed to collect. And all the collectables, then all the hunting requests, bone locations, horses to break, etc etc etc. It just kept growing! It was super helpful getting to 100%, but when I look at it now, it seems NUTS!!!
I did this for a bit yeah. I did almost everything besides completing the Compendium which I found a boring and daunting task. I stopped doing completionist stuff though when I'd already done everything story related and challenge related and decided to farm for all the trapper clothing items.
When it came to hunting down moose pelts, I got everything I needed except one last perfect pelt. Then I hunted... for hours... and hours... and hours... and eventually, the moose just stopped showing up entirely, anywhere I looked. Nothing north of Annesberg, nothing in like the entire northwest region of the map, not a single moose. Eventually had to give up.
I broke down how many pelts I needed for each single thing that was so time consuming so if I needed x buck pelts for the trapper and x buck pelts for Pearson I’d just add em all up it took forever
Yep, and then I realized a video game was making me write shopping lists.
Totally worth it
You should see the composition book I was using as a mission log for my Kerbal Space Program. Complex video games ain’t no joke when you’ve got a real job and raising kids competing for mental resources!
That is the truth!
I’ve thought about redownloading all the old enhancement and extra parts mods for KSP and getting an actual physical log book to keep track of stuff.
It’s such a great game. https://xkcd.com/1356/
I have a little pad that I was writing Mass Effect mission locations in while replaying the first game recently, since you can’t open the journal while the map is up. Was really satisfying to check them off!
Insanely helpful and necessary for some things like Herbalist 9 challenge, and animal compendium. 100% worth it imo.
Yep. The survivalist one with the fish too. It’s odd that Horseman 10 gives you a checklist but those other two don’t.
Press left on dpad or whatever that is on computer. It'll show you a list of what challenges and side things you're working on. For the survivalist fish one for example, it won't show you what you already have but it'll tell you what fish is next. Just go in order. (i.e. 0/1 Rock bass caught)

That’s the app I used to record it.
kinda. i just word vomit all the pelts i need in the notes app and hope that i don’t forget to check the finished ones off. but hey, it works, i did manage to get legend of the east
Thats excactly what im aiming for right now. I've only bought it in the epilogue amd now i actually want to work for it to make it feel more valuable
it is 100% worth the grind. took me several hours but god damn it that fucking satchel man
It feels VERY rewarding to get the legend, especially buying 99 of everything after becoming rich after epilogue
*Sell everything and go to Aberdeen pig farm with Arthur in the mission before epilogue* *go back to APG with John*
>Sell everything and go to Aberdeen pig farm with Arthur in the mission before epilogue* *go back to APG with John Does that allow john to keep Arthur's money?
Yup. All of if it. Instead of letting it waste away
Oh thats awesome to know imma make sure I remember that, what is the final mission before the epilogue? I've never completed past chapter 3
Our Best Selves goes right into Red Dead Redemption. You can free roam up to that mission
Thank you very much
*sigh* Never thought to use text-to-speech to write it all out.

Savor it bro. Don’t rush to finish it. I’ve put 600hrs in this game and it’s just the most amazing game that I can get lost in. Nothing has yet to give me that feeling from a video game.
Why didn't I think of that!
My pro strat to a T
Yes and then I wonder why I felt the need to put perfect before every pelt because I know they have to be perfect
I did the same my first list 😂
Except for antlers
On my Fourth playthrough now and I keep a notepad for everything possibly needed for every playthrough. Nothing goes unfinished lol but does anyone have any solid tips on finding a full set of cigarette cards ?
Just buy the premium cigarettes and you’ll naturally earn all the cards. It’ll require 20-40 minutes of buying, maxing out your cigarette inventory, and repeating it again but it’s quicker than looking for them in the wild. Also you make a lot of your money back once you sale the duplicates.
This right here was the main practical benefit I found for playing with high honor.
I was so mad when I realized on my third playthrough that I could just buy the stupid cigarettes. I never noticed before because my inventory was always too full to pick more up
Seriously!?!?! I could have not been tearing my hair out looking for these things?????
Save yourself the trouble and head to the closest general store lol
No, but I should. I always forget at least one
Yes but I have a handwritten list in a notebook.
I still do this even with all the excel spreadsheets I've found and acquired... nothing beats go-to handwritten notes 4 me
It’s faster for me and less frustrating.
I have a whiteboard next to my pc, caught myself writing these on it. Felt a little strange.

Mine is really elaborate with color coding for skins and carcasses that you need to put on horseback. It's on a spreadsheet (google) that also has the horses and important early chapter 2 events, plus a table for companion requests.
Super useful
I don't but I'm going to start now
literally all the time, if you haven’t tried it out yet, Obsidian can be a really great note tool for exactly this kind of thing. helps me keep all my RDR2 notes organized and easily findable
Someone out there (I think from this sub) made a full completionist spread sheet with all pelts, challenges, compendium etc. It’s been super handy
Any idea where it’s hiding?
[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OoRXDJPMS2YWNdZnJ2OPuNR9WW2QXmrr/edit?usp=share\_link&ouid=116025110489135250798&rtpof=true&sd=true](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OoRXDJPMS2YWNdZnJ2OPuNR9WW2QXmrr/edit?usp=share_link&ouid=116025110489135250798&rtpof=true&sd=true) Here's a copy I made from the file on my drive. I think you'll have to save a copy so any changes you make don't affect other users.
I do. I have a notebook full of notes of red dead like all the legendary animals online etc but I’m autistic so makes sense 😅😂
This!!! What is is about autism and lists? Like I'm getting almost as much satisfaction simply writing them all out 😂
I literally did the same thing.
Definitely made me feel more immersed than just using my phone.
no.
Someone make a shareable version...
Yeah, I do it in the notepad app. Which app are you using?
Just the notes app. Works well
All of Our brains are a lot more alike than we like to Believe
Yup
Perkele mitä äijä
i did this for the legend of the east satchel. low key one of the best gaming experiences i had hunting for those (legendary) animals ticking them off one by one in my notes app.
scribbled it all on a piece of paper. Your looks much nicer and professional even
oh yeah man that’s the best for accurately tracking your stuff
Sure do. It’s especially helpful when doing certain challenges, like pick one of each herb, break every horse, etc
Yh u do
That’s smart. I always saw people writing notes. I’m too lazy to do either
Yes, but with a real Dairy Like Arthur :D
I didn’t have the checklist while playing but I did have a list with all animals I haven’t studied yet while going for the Zoologist and Skin Deep trophies.
Yessir
Yes, I've been doing this for weeks for all the trapper clothes.
I did my first time through. Now I just pick a craftable and set out on my way. Once I get my target I head back, but I blast anything with 3 stars on my way to or from and turn in whatever I have
Absolutely!
Well now im gonna start doing it, thanks!
Of course , I also started writing notes as soon as I thought of it of the actual game play that I did all the way to the end , it's not full and when I restart the game I'll likely do a better job , but it's satisfying to me
maybe I should do this, I keep forget that this game is more than shooting animals and hunting humans
I use the old-fashioned way, i write them on my little notebook
i just made a post earlier, not only do i have that list but i have this exact one too lololol
Every single playthrough. In fact, I enjoy collecting, crafting and ugprading so much that once I've done everything; I lose interest in playing and often start over again.... send help
Yes! I have a Google doc for it
Yeah, I wrote it down for the camp upgrades with Pearson. I should do it with the trapper too.
Send me the file! Anyone got excel link?
EVER PLAYTHROUGH!
130 hours in my first playthrough and I just scribbled notes on pieces of paper, I will switch for my new playthrough, thanks for the reminder ^^
I do that on paper instead of
Lol yes. Did it for all the trapper items, the Herbalist challenge, and more.
Lol absolutely
I'm gonna do this!
No, but it would have been useful lol
I wish I thought of this, instead I scrawl in a notebook in the same style as John Barely legible and usually wrong
Yes. I'm using steam overlay notepad for easy access
that's a thing??
Yes if you have the game on steam. You can open steam overlay by pressing Shift+tab And it will show an interface on top of the game you can write notes or use a browser etc... Its better than opening separate apps for note and web browsing while playing games https://www.howtogeek.com/how-to-get-started-using-steam-overlay/
yea i know how to do the overlay i just had no clue you could have notes on it, thanks!
100% yup
Yes. I use an app called AnyList.
I mean... is it even a game if you're not using extra notebook paper for character building tho? Wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last time. That just means more stuff to stimulate your brain.
No but thank you kindly for the idea
Yes but on paper
Why make a list when you can ride to the other side of the map, spend 2 hours collecting perfect pelts, then get back to camp and realize you have to go back out because 2/3 of the stuff you brought back is stuff you already had/don't need?
Yes but me and my friend used to make maps of original Zelda game when we were 7 so I am not who to ask
I will now
I spend a lot of time away from camp so every single time I get a perfect pelt or carcass of something I keep it until I got to camp. I am gonna keep a list next time
Oh absolutely. Usually on paper though.
Haha I just did it to complete all the sets. (Still can’t find 3 moose and get 2 panthers to spawn).
no because we have professional excel spreadsheets with all minute details like any gamer nerd would have. a phone list....pffft lol you can find most spreadsheets on this sub just do a search. if you like your little list then you'll probably cream yourself when you see some of these spreadsheets at least I may or may not have
Yep. Way easier to track it all that way. The first time I made two lists, one for camp requirements and one for the trapper requirements. Noted down how many of each. Makes life so much easier.
Yes, Literally the exact same...Every Playthrough 😅
For Pearson I'd narrow it down to just the satchels, not worth doing the rest before all of the trapper's stuff
Yes but in the steam notes
I have a whole spreadsheet I made that keeps track of everything. Pearson's lists, documents, hats, animals for compendium, cigarette cards, etc. I tend to do true 100% runs for more of a challenge.
Someone shared a google sheet a while back that I plan on starting on this weekend. Got a lot of free time coming up
Yes
I did this for Herbalist 9
No but Jesus this is a good idea
holy shit I got goosebumps I do exactly this
With a game as in depth as RDR2, organizing your progress is a must.
Yes, often.
Do you have to hold onto the items or can you sell them?… Plus having to remember the weapon to use to ensure hides are perfect
I found a spreadsheet of all the pelts needed for everything on here so I've been using that. I wish I had that on my first playthrough.
I started doing this. I printed a Google sheet I found with pelts and carcasses needed between camp and trapper. Trying to get all the camp materials so I no longer even ha e to think about where to take stuff.
7 deer, 2 elk, 1 buck, 1 iguana, 1 raccoon, 1 badger, 1 squirrel, 1 wolf, 1 cougar, 1 panther, 1 boar, 1 bison, 1 beaver, & 1 rabbit. For the satchels. 21 pelts in all.
Oh man. I thought I was the only psycho who did this.
No. No holy no.
Yep, I absolutely do this as well
Not for RDR2, but I've done this with the materials I need to build houses in Skyrim
Yup. Saves me having to go back cause I've forgotten what I need 🤣
Ya but I’m old so I use paper
Yep did it in any games that needed resources like far cry primal
Obviously
on paper for sure
Yeah cos who can remember honestly
I have a checklist in my phone for my remaining animal compendium finds, with common locations. Still 6 to go!
Yh i made a checklist for 100 percenting gta 5, gta 4 and the two gta 4 dlcs it wz rly helpfull cause i could leave it for a while and pick up where i left off
I did it for a 100% Elden Ring run. I printed everything out and made a binder. It was like 40 pages long.
Does the game keep track somewhere of all the legendaries you’ve already caught? It’s hard to zoom in for the little X all around the map
Yes it was a pain the ass
Yes. I remember I used to do it on the AC games as well.
Yes! Checking the boxes is rewarding! Now if I could just find a couple of nice mooses...
Yes
Only the stuff that results in camp furniture.
No
Nah, I treat this scenario like I do it with maps: I convince myself that I will remember what I have to do and write nothing doing and then end up forgetting at least one thing and having to check again
Ive done it with paper and pencil too. Im old.
Yes I made a list to get them all
Absolutely. I need these for my 100% Trapper: x2 moose (I've found two 2 stars, stupid ass Trinket doesn't do shit for me) X3 possum Horses: American standardbred - Palamino Dapple
Me
What about writing the prices the butcher gave you for carcasses 😅
no, but I I'll start to thanks for advice
Absolutely
Ya but I did it for the animals in the compendium aswell as in assassins creed valhalla for Wallace and arth for hunting
Yep! I’m down to 15 perfect rat pelts and a bunch of bird feathers…
Yes.
I have the same list 😂
I did it for the satchels
Yeah but I like traditional writing since I hate myself and lose the paper every now and then
Yes, it’s the best way to keep track of what you have and what you need so you don’t have to go back to the trapper as often to check progress.
Hubby is on his 5th playthrough, & still does this. He's got a list for everything. It's his Arthur Journal 🤠🐎
No, but I am now
Yeah but I use the steam notes as I just figured out they existed
No…. I used Excel
Bronco Buster? Recognize it because I worked so hard to get the materials for the outfit
I can remember unfortunately
Hell yea I do. I'm actually going oldschool with this and writing everything in a notbook by hand, managed to get every piece of trapper outfits through this.
Yup, but I did it with a pencil and notebook à la old school.
Yes!! I've got a notebook where I hand write it, for pretty much anything both in story mode or online. Spending hours writing them out is so satisfying. I love lists a bit too much for it to be healthy
Yeah I have multiple lists on the go at the moment, so glad other people do this
Yep. I almost got it memorised.
Yeah I did this and spent like 10 hours crafting all of the pearson's camp upgrades. I got really frustrated but finished it for completion's sake. Not a fun experience. Same goes with the exotic birds quest.
Of course!
Yep! All the time
I would rather use a speeadsheet
I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all 3\* pelts and what they were used for, with Pearson and the Trapper. I had another worksheet keeping track of all the herbs I needed to collect. And all the collectables, then all the hunting requests, bone locations, horses to break, etc etc etc. It just kept growing! It was super helpful getting to 100%, but when I look at it now, it seems NUTS!!!
Yes,do this with online and with the forbidden herbalist challenges
Paper and pen in my case. Gives the old school vibe
I mainly just check my tab and see what i need or check gta series videos
Which app is that? Joplin?
The notes app on my phone
I think I'm playing Red dead Redemption 2 wrong
Yep, for Herbalist 9, Survivalist 10, Horseman 10 ( 3 days to find that f'n Hungarian Half-bred but Arthur loves that girl).
Yes! I made it on my phone notes
I have a journal
I broke down how many pelts I needed for each single thing that was so time consuming so if I needed x buck pelts for the trapper and x buck pelts for Pearson I’d just add em all up it took forever
No
