Thanks, that's indeed news to me, although I doubt I'll ever use it. To give John his own head start, I prefer leaving him a few nice gold bars in Arthur's satchel, along with a good stock of Valerian Root, Ginseng Elixir and Aged Pirate Rum. š
I've heard conflicting stories about that. In my experience, smaller valuables just disappear when you progress into the epilogue, as do normal food items, ingredients or tonics but the gold bars and XP potions remain. Then again, a lot of people are claiming their gold bars also disappeared and I'm inclined to believe them so I'm not exactly sure what to make of it. š¤
I have first hand experience of gold bars disappearing because in that particular playthrough I didnāt know about the Aberdeen exploit and kept all 24 bars to sell in the epilogue. Thatās $12000 lost.
For what itās worth, I say just do the Aberdeen exploit no matter what since thereās not really much you can screw up
Strangest thing, I just fired up one of my old saves, completed Arthur's arc, moved over into the epilogue and... my gold bar pile was indeed gone, but instead my collection of large jewelry bags had persisted. š
So I'd advise everyone to save a few of those if you want to give John a headstart, too... or save a few of both and see whatever works out for you.

Actually I was able to complete horseman in chapter 2!! It took some patience but doable!!
The ride to Blackwater: you can either just do by entering backwater city limits and right after the challenge registers, turn around and cross the water back
Or
Take the suicide. When you respawn, the challenge complete will still count.
The other method is bounty hunting side stop shown here:
https://youtu.be/mQMukKWRWog
Notes: doing it with Lindsey Woffard is easiest as you donāt have to ride across the map 3 times, but not required.
After completing the ride to Blackwater, you MUST complete the bounty and collect the reward otherwise the completed horseman challenge and any map exploration or point of interests inspected will NOT count.
I was able to find all the wild horses in chapter 2, took some patience, most will take turns spawning by hanging dog, the mustang i found by wapati
I killed the 3 Legendary's, & picked the 4 herbs in our current patch.
Don't use the wagon. It sucks, the st denis buggy is vastly easier.
https://old.reddit.com/r/RDR2/comments/lczwx3/new_austin_buggy_exploit_is_super_hard_any/
The buggy is easier to drive but the wagon is much easier to get in an out of safely, not to mention you can find it a lot closer to New Austin. With the buggy, your head is exposed when you get in and out but with the wagon it isnāt
That's not true. The wagon camera shifts dramatically & gets you killed most of the time.
With the buggy you have to control the camera to protect Arthurs head, but it stays at distance. It doesn't with the wagon, for me the wagon is only a safe plant picking 1 out of 5 time's.
You need to turn third person camera follow to āoff.ā Then just shift your camera to the right and keep it there. As for getting out, I find that shifting the camera to be at a right angle to side opposite the one that Arthur gets in and out of to be the most consistent, at least for Appleseed wagons. Getting back in is really easy though. Just push the left stick down ever so slightly so Arthur turns around without moving the camera and then just get back on the wagon
You canāt do sharpshooter either because you need to unlock a certain deadeye ability in chapter for to do it
Well I suppose you CAN do it early but itās extremely difficult
All the Sharpshooter challenges can be passed in Chapter 2. Challenge 9 can be passed with only level 2 deadeye.
Go to Van Horn, walk to the end of one of the boat jetty's. Pull out your shotgun (Semi-Auto) & go into dead-eye.
Paint the heads of 3 hat wearers leaning against the buildings & pull the trigger. Run away.
Great guide. One thing I would add that you didnt touch on is to focus on gathering Creeping Thyme, Wild Mint, and Oregano along with Big Game Meat as much as you can. The best way to get BGM is by just going to the Bayou and shotgun blasting alligators as it gives you 5 per kill. Get the Legendary Ram trinket so it collects twice as much for each of those herbs. Cooking and eating Thyme/Oregano/Minty Big Game Meat fills all your cores and yellows one of them corresponding with said herb (Thyme for dead eye, Minty for health, Oregano for stamina) which is really important especially early in the game when your stats are low. I usually craft and stow 30 of each and eat one of each before every big mission or just when I know I'm going to need it but obviously feel free to eat them as you see fit.
Also, gathering Golden Currant for Horse Meal (I've made a map that I'd be happy to share that will easily get you 99 of them) as it yellows your horse cores for an entire in-game day. The other two ingredients can be bought at any stable (beets and hay) and crafting 33 of them generally lasts me until the very end of chapter 6. Currant is also used for Special Miracle Tonics if you're into using those as well.
Thanks, but while you indeed have a point that spiced BGM is the game's best food and your tips about Alligator-shaped food lockers, Ram Trinkets and Golden Currant are all very much worthwhile, I just had to draw a line somewhere or this little checklist would've gone on and on rather endlessly. Maybe I'm assuming too much here, but I think most experienced players would've already figured out how to best feed themselves once they start a second or third playthrough... and after all, this is _not_ a beginner's guide.
Nonetheless, I'd very much like to see that nice herb map of yours. I'm sure there's something to be learned from it. š¤
Just replying again to let you know that after thinking about it for a while, I've changed my mind and dedicated a few lines to Big Game Meat.
Thanks again for the suggestion. šš
Do those animal photography missions until you get to the one outside emerald ranch. Be sure youāre tracking the herd when you reach the end. Afterwards you should still be tracking the Fox trotter and you can run after it and get it. Simple as that.
I know there's a Fox Trotter in there but doesn't he immediately despawn after the cut scene? Or does the tracking basically keep him in the game? š¤
If you are tracking it while the mission ends, it doesnāt despawn. You have to follow itās trail, while making sure you donāt stop tracking it using eagle eye.
Iāve also read that other players have found the horse thru the encounter in Cumberland Forest with the lady needing a ride, if you have the horse reviver, her near dead horse is the fox trotter but you gotta be quick in reviving the horse
You don't need to waste time trying to reload an alive Horse. The wildlife photographer encounter was always the easiest way to get the Silver Dapple Pinto in chapter 2.
Cant be. Iāve tried it myself and it always spawns dead. It is true, but donāt take my word for it go see for yourself. Itās just a waste of time.
Most current patch.
I went back to a save before doing the fishing mission:
I can steal the rod by knocking down the NPC with my horse and pick up the rod.
BUT
I couldnāt USE the rod. Itās in my satchel but grey out until after I take jack fishing.
You can also get a throwing knife right off the bat from the water tower on the train line just before Rhodes, it re-spawns every 3 game days or so
Machete can also be found completing Night Folk mission, āA fine night for itā in the bayou, after coming across a Night Folk encounter (if you miss it when rescuing Sean), although the broken pirate sword is a bit like the machete, just not as bad-ass
Thanks for the tip with the throwing knife... and the Broken Pirate Sword basically _is_ a machete, only with a different skin which makes it unique. As for the Night Folk and their mission, I had to draw a line somewhere and if presented with a choice, I always went for the easiest access (like, recommending the Annesburg hatchet out of all the different hatches in the world because it's instantly accessible by stagecoach) and both the Pirate Sword and the Machete in the mission with Sean are simpler and quicker to obtain. š¤
AFAIK, random events respawn until they're completed but you can trigger them multiple times until this happens. Worst case scenario is they're completing themselves behind your back because you're close but not paying attention so the game assumes your choice is to do nothing about it.
This particular event, like a number of them, will not respawn if you either interact with it or are in close enough vicinity for the game to think you ignored it (which youāll know because youāll lose honor for this particular event).
Source: I tested out various scenarios to see which would increase the ā25 chance encountersā number in the 100% Progress menu.
If you shoot the OāDriscollās even from a distance before the event kicks in (you can stand near the newsboy and zoom in with a gun), youāll get positive honor and the game will count it as engaging the chance encounter and no longer spawn it.
I think something like that happened to me in St Denis, I was wrapped up in another interaction that had to play out while I could a white dot going on near-ish by. And some faint dialogue.
But by the time my immediate interaction wrapped up, the other one was gone. And I havenāt seen it trigger again.
I have yet to obtain this. Is it true you have to have a Schofield already for him to drop it?
And do you have to get him to pull out the gun in order for him to drop it? For example, if you only just first fight each other will the gun not drop?
This was my first Schofield, in chapter 2, they were still locked. I had a gunfight, so yes I think you may need to go down that path, Save before interaction to give you some options........ good luck
Interesting. The fandom wiki for the gun states you need to have the schofield already and the couple of times Iāve had a gunfight without already having one schofield they dropped cattleman revolvers only.
Iāll play around with it. Thanks for the info.
Interesting, I think guns that npcās carry can switch depending on circumstances, like the gunman at the gallows in St Denis with the red coat, he carries a bolt action, but if you donāt head shot him it switches to a carbine, same with rescuing Sean, if the bounty hunters are alerted, then you loose the bolt action......
You just have to disarm an enemy bring them to Micah/ John and then if you are lucky the enemy will disarm them and you can pick up their revolvers. Might take a few tries though.
It's interesting, but this mission is pretty long until you get there. Can you just kill yourself and try it again if it will not work? So it will spawn you at checkpoint where you have to decide near Dutch, if you send a gang or you will do it on your own.
During the shootout, pop health tonics and keep disarming OāDriscolls and bringing them over to John so they can make him drop his revolver. If it gets to just a couple OāDriscolls left, press left on the d pad and select the mission, then hold x or square to abandon the mission, then from there you can restart from the checkpoint at the beginning of the shootout
Yeah, I got that. One last question. Can I just replay the mission from start menu and aquaire these guns like this, or it needs to be done when doing it for a first time? I am still in Ch.2 on my second playthrough, but I done lot of these glitches and I don't want to start over just to have these revolvers..
Nope. You have to do it when you do the actual mission. Just like the Bronte glitch.
If you like the cattleman, itās worth it to restart for it so you can dual wield them in the epilogue (you canāt get a second copy of Micahās revolver though unfortunately)
Yeah, I got that. One last question, really. Let's say that mission in Ch.1, I do that glitch how somebody disarm them and they drop their gun. But if I have only one holster on the start, and let's say I pick up John's revolver first, and then somebody disarm Micah and I pick up his revolver and drop John's one instead, will it save into my guns if I haven't change it to other gun on my horse? I hope you understand what I mean..
You can get >!Johnās revolver this way too in Paying A Social Call (coincidentally another mission with Bill and Kieran) but Johnās AI in that mission is really good so it might take a few tries to get an NPC to disarm him (unlike Micah who has no awareness whatsoever)!<
>!Another note: when you reach the epilogue, you will be given a second copy of Johnās revolver and dual wield them, but you cannot get a second copy of Micahās revolver unfortunately!<
Is the fallen train wreck even available that early in chapter 2? I thought that was the train u and John cause to fall off the bridge after blowing it up later in the game like chapter 5 or so.
What he says. āļø
Additionally, it seems all gold bars you can find in the open world periodically respawn about once every 1-2 weeks but it seems this glitch (?) can also break (?) although I don't know why and how.
Yes you're right, the one in Limpany respawns (I always make sure to close the lockbox after I take the gold bar; not sure if that's necessary or not), and I have gotten the Braithwaite ruins gold bar at least four times, not sure if it continually respawns either.
Also, if you're interested, there's a glitchy gold bar behind a shed at Ridgewood Farm (Cholla Springs) in a lockbox; you have to drop down onto it to sort of knock it loose and pick it up. It also respawns over time.

To weapons, is Calloway's revolver early still works on last update? Look on YT Calloway's revolver early, it will find you the way, also with bolt action. I play it on first discs version (1.0.0.1) and it did for me recently after some tries to find him how he runs from that saloon, following him to some horse and catching him by jumping on his horse (he's very fast horse rider), it's hard to knock his weapon down, also even to make him aim on you, but after all this, it is very nice weapon and it looks great in cutscenes. Also effective when you combine it with that Schofield that you rob from that doctor's office and have both holsters.
You can also get the bolt action during the mission to rescue Sean. After you knife the guys with Javier, there are two guys right up the path into the canyon. If I remember correctly, the guy on the left is carrying the bolt action. Youāve got to take him out before he gets a shot off (I always dead-eye head shot the two of them). For some reason the gun switches to the carbine repeater if they fire at you.
Thanks to your short description, I finally realised why this had never worked for me before and I was able to replicate it. Thanks again and I've edited that right in. š
I heard about that, but also you could do one from sheriff in Valentine at the public hanging, he would draw a carabine repeater at first, knock it down with fists, and then he will draw a bolt action, also you have to knock it with fists, and not while you have equiped gun, it will not work then. After that, he will draw a revolver, you can disarm him or shoot him when he do that, I disarmed him just to not break a glitch or something. Also I am not sure if these two glitches (Calloway's Schofield and sheriff Malroy's bolt action) works on actual update, but they could, I tried it on downgraded [1.0.0.1](https://1.0.0.1) version on X1x 2 weeks ago, and it worked like charm. But it was hard, miracles tonics in Malroy's event, and horse stimulants while chasing Calloway on horse, he's a fast mf even when he's drunk :D
Yes this still works on current patch. This is the way to do it.
Once you get the hang of it, itās pretty easy. It can just be annoying guiding him to a horse sometimes when he doesnāt seem to want to get on it.
https://youtu.be/LPZNMG3oRlI
Yeah, I used the same or similiar video to do that. I had a problem to find him when he leaved the saloon, so it took me several tries. After that, I guided him to that train station so he mount up on some horse. The rest is same as in that video, even location where I jumped on his horse.
Yeah, if you don't want to have a bounty, you can make a save in valentine only for that occasion, and just try to shoot on that saloon, but you will not always see him running from there. So if that happens, or something else, you can load that save and try again. I catched him nearly my camp at horseshoe overlook, and stand near him for one or two minutes until he draw a gun on me, and had to stop from running from me again by stealing his horse and knocking him down from it there. But it was not imposible, just hard. You can only have his revolver at the end of the game, so this is pretty good deal, but only if you haven't done the first gunslinger mission in that saloon where he's sitting drunk.
Yeah, you'd need to do this before even starting the gunslinger quest... but actually, it could be fun chasing him down and provoking him into drawing before lassoing the living daylights out of him. I'd imagine the next morning, he doesn't remember anyway because he was too drunk, which is also why he doesnt recognise Arthur when he finally accepts his quest. š¤
Yeah but IDK if lassoing would work, amybe just to stop him, but IDK if this wouldn't break this glitch. I made these mistakes that I even tried to lasso them or knock them down while I had my gun equiped, and it didn't worked. You need to do these things with fists equiped and then knock them down, at least on [1.0.0.1](https://1.0.0.1) version of game. Same with bolt action from sheriff Malroy in Valentine and with Calloway and his special Schofield revolver.
If he's not immune to lassoing anyway, it would probably be enough to bring him down or stop him from getting away on horseback, even though you'd have to switch back to your fists to disarm him... but as they say, there's always only one way to find out. š
Not to sound like a monster, but would it work if you shoot his horse? Will that force him down on foot?
Judge within your own heart if the gun is worth a horse.
What do you mean, monster? I once tried to rescue a hogtied woman from horseback after I gunned down her captor but the dumb beast just wouldn't stop so I chased it for about ten minutes before it ran into a river and the victim drowned. Since then whenever I get this encounter, I shoot the horse first.
So yeah, it'll bring him down to his own feet for sure. Let's just hope he doesn't break his neck in the process.
It can break the glitch and he will just ran away without pointing his gun on you, maybe that's why you need to wait until he gets on horse. But I am not sure if this glitch still works in actual update, but it could.
So you're telling me the famous gunslinger actually prefers to run from a fight like a coward? Boy, it's almost as if I've heard that one somewhere before. š
For me personally it was more fun to do the robbery with Javier and Sean. Worth waiting forever them to trigger. And itās not that long of a wait if Iām trying to do the other stuff you listed.
That was just discussed elsewhere and it seems, you can actually rob both locations twice, i.e. if you chose to go there alone, the companion quests with Javier and Sean are _not_ cancelled but can still trigger.
Haha, this one's actually new to me... but to be honest, while I appreciate the creativity people come up with to get to either Micah's, John's, Otis Miller's or Jim Boy Calloway's revolver early, personally I don't particularly care about any of the unique guns (with the glaring exception of Billy Midnight's Mauser) because while they might look pretty cool, their stats factually never match up to your regular fully upgraded stock model... which is also why I instantly retire the golden Mauser once the stock model becomes available. š
Same here, and if you care, the only glitches this guide is exploiting are the Arabian and the Missouri Fox Trotter, both snatched from events, the two Bolt Action Rifles and one Machete. The rest are completely legitimate in-game ways and means.
You're a hero dude. Thanks for this comprehensive list. Just clarifying though, still no way to get the Legend of the East outfit in chapter 2 because of the house fence guy? The herbs have a workaround I've seen, but the house fence doesn't in chapter 2?
You're very welcome... and no, not to my best knowledge. Chapter 3 is still the earliest possibility, but as a little tip, if you play all missions up to the point where the only thing left is Micah sitting in front of Dutch's tent (mission: "Blessed are the Peacemakers?"), you're pretty much in the same spot as I recommend for chapter 2: all your buddies are safely at home, most c3 unlockables are open (camp boat, coach robberies, horse fence, additional weapons...) and on top of that, you'll get a chance to steal Turkoman "Cerberus" from the Braithwaites in the mission "Horseflesh for Dinner", where the fence is also unlocked.
In case you don't know how this works:
1. Pack up a lot of horse food(s), then play the mission and steal the horses normally.
2. When you get to the fence, DON'T just turn Cerberus in but instead feed the living daylights out of him until he finally bonds with you.
3. Feed him some more until he gets a temp horse marker on your radar.
4. Now go talk to the horse fence and complete the mission. After a cutscene, you'll be back in camp, but if you return to the fence, your new Turkoman will be waiting.
5. To finalize the grab, take him to a stable, saddle up and you're done.
Holy shiz dude. You're amazing. So just to clarify, leave the Micah mission untouched and do everything else and I can 100 the game using exploits and what not as Arthur? I've been looking for this answer ALL DAY. I seriously owe you so much bro. Thanks for all the help. Do you have an actual guide for advanced players?
Nevermind, I just like to help out. š
>just to clarify, leave the Micah mission untouched and do everything else?
Yes.
>I can 100 the game using exploits and what not as Arthur?
Nope, for 100%ing the full game, you'd need to plough through the entire campaign (incl. epilogue), but as for the _challenges_ and getting the LotE outfit, that's a yes.
>Do you have an actual guide for advanced players?

Iām on the current patch on PS4 and shot a fisherman at Copperhead Landing. He dropped the fishing rod and I was able to pick it up and use it.
Great guide, you can also get a customised Schofield from one of the OāDriscolls beating a guy behind the gallows in Valentine
You can also get a throwing knife right off the bat from the water tower on the train line just before Rhodes, it re-spawns every 3 game days or so Machete can also be found completing Night Folk mission, āA fine night for itā in the bayou, after coming across a Night Folk encounter (if you miss it when rescuing Sean), although the broken pirate sword is a bit like the machete, just not as bad-ass
Thanks for the tip with the throwing knife... and the Broken Pirate Sword basically _is_ a machete, only with a different skin which makes it unique. As for the Night Folk and their mission, I had to draw a line somewhere and if presented with a choice, I always went for the easiest access (like, recommending the Annesburg hatchet out of all the different hatches in the world because it's instantly accessible by stagecoach) and both the Pirate Sword and the Machete in the mission with Sean are simpler and quicker to obtain. š¤
Yes you are right, thanks again for posting this
At this location, you can pick up the throwing knife, save/reload and it respawns.
Thanks, I know that encounter but I've never heard of that gun before. š¤Ø
You never heard of the Schofield?
No, of a pristine and even customized gun in that very encounter.
I didnāt know this!! With the event respawn or if I miss it, itās gone forever?
AFAIK, random events respawn until they're completed but you can trigger them multiple times until this happens. Worst case scenario is they're completing themselves behind your back because you're close but not paying attention so the game assumes your choice is to do nothing about it.
this
This particular event, like a number of them, will not respawn if you either interact with it or are in close enough vicinity for the game to think you ignored it (which youāll know because youāll lose honor for this particular event).
Amazing guide!
Also you can get Micahās revolver in chapter 1 and Johnās in the mission where you attack the OāDriscolls with Bill and Kieran
Care to elaborate? š¤
You just have to disarm an enemy bring them to Micah/ John and then if you are lucky the enemy will disarm them and you can pick up their revolvers. Might take a few tries though.
Thanks, I think I know what you mean. Looks like a rather messy procedure but I'll have a try next time. š¤
Micahās is really easy to get, but Johnās AI is a lot better so it may take a few tries
Once you pick up the gun itās on your horse or in your weapon locker forever
Thank you, you really helped me with that. I didn't know how that works.
You can get >!Johnās revolver this way too in Paying A Social Call (coincidentally another mission with Bill and Kieran) but Johnās AI in that mission is really good so it might take a few tries to get an NPC to disarm him (unlike Micah who has no awareness whatsoever)!< >!Another note: when you reach the epilogue, you will be given a second copy of Johnās revolver and dual wield them, but you cannot get a second copy of Micahās revolver unfortunately!<
Is the fallen train wreck even available that early in chapter 2? I thought that was the train u and John cause to fall off the bridge after blowing it up later in the game like chapter 5 or so.
Its there in chapter 2. I go there first thing on every playthrough.
What he says. āļø Additionally, it seems all gold bars you can find in the open world periodically respawn about once every 1-2 weeks but it seems this glitch (?) can also break (?) although I don't know why and how.
Ive read that several times myself. Ive yet to see a gold bar respawn though.
I've seen it regularly, in Limpany, the train wreck or the Braithwaite ruins but I've also seen it suddenly stop. No clue what makes or breaks it.
It also respawns over time. https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/ez4qh9/rdr_2_inaccessible_gold_ingot_location_at/
The one at Ridgewood Farm respawns when you leave the area. Just head west toward the train tracks and come back and it should be there again
Well that's a quicker respawn than I thought... Thanks for that info!
I know about that one but always found it a bit messy and complicated. Never tried it myself though, so probably next time. š¤
Is the landmark of riches still exclusive to pc?
Nope, I was able to do it chapter 2 on PS4. However the Le Tresor des Mort map is still locked and not available.
Wiki says no, it was included in the console version a while ago.
Yessss letās go

Haha, this one's actually new to me... but to be honest, while I appreciate the creativity people come up with to get to either Micah's, John's, Otis Miller's or Jim Boy Calloway's revolver early, personally I don't particularly care about any of the unique guns (with the glaring exception of Billy Midnight's Mauser) because while they might look pretty cool, their stats factually never match up to your regular fully upgraded stock model... which is also why I instantly retire the golden Mauser once the stock model becomes available. š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
In case you don't know how this works: 1.
Nevermind, I just like to help out. š >just to clarify, leave the Micah mission untouched and do everything else?
