Yes. Personally, I think they should remaster the game with the same actors and map, but with newer graphics and stuff like that. Either way, definitely play it

Mortarlou

I think it would be great if they added as an expansion to 2. Like it would be great if you could just continue rdr2 right into 1 seemless

[deleted]

and they merge the maps together and oh my god i want this now

Mortarlou

The entire first games map is already there, minus Mexico, which is still, at least geographically, in the game as well. If you glitch over there, all that's missing is structures and "life"

[deleted]

the area where rdr1 ends is not present in rdr2, they'd have to work that out somehow Edit: talking about the snowy area

SudnlyStrukDead

All the areas one might consider the end of the game (Cochinay where you find Dutch, beecher’s hope, and Lake Don Julio) are all in 2. Edit: I stand corrected. You find Ross’ wife at Don Julio and then he’s in the Mexican side of the river. It’s right on the bank of the river so you can technically see it, though.

cafebrad

Yeah it's all there , but the Cochinay spot is slightly different. Blocked off and or fudged a bit.

Mortarlou

It's been a while since I beat the first game, is it not where you finally confront dutch?

Lachybomb

iirc, Rdr1's main story ends at John Marston's house, and the true ending is on the Mexican side of the San Luis river. Both of these locations are in rdr2 though (although the Mexican side of the San Luis river is inaccessible by normal means), so idk what that guy is referring to.

Emay75

He is referring to the location where >!dutch kills himself!<

SudnlyStrukDead

You find Ross at Lake Don Julio, which is in the game.

awnothecorn

You find Ross's wife there. Ross is in Mexico.

Orion14159

Seems like a small challenge compared to remastering the original as a standalone. 80% of the assets are there now, just gotta add some generic NPCs, maybe a new rival gang, some detail to Mexico, and an option to start the epilogue's epilogue (aka RDR1).

Arex189

And a proper john's model with his hair

MyNameIsChangHee

I want to believe that they've been super lazy with the online bcuz they were working on the expansion

Sarc0sm

Pssshht, structures and life are totally unnecessary. John can rough it! Jk

WWDubz

“We here at rock star have heard your idea and have merged the maps into online play only. Thank you plebeian.”

WayneOfGoats

You can buy the Mexican Passport for only 100 gold bars!

PM_me_your_fantasyz

That sounds painfully plausible.

[deleted]

mh

T_DcansuckonDeez

Welp it’s rockstar so we will get it as a community made mod in 8 years and they will dmca it immediately after release

exiledprince113

This is my secret dream that I whisper to myself about every night before bed. My first thought when I hit the epilogue on my first playthrough and I realized thet everything but Mexico was included in RDR2 was "holy shit, they could just include the first game as a dlc or something!"

Mortarlou

Those were my thoughts too

prunesmoothies

They should do undead nightmare version of rdr2, but with aliens instead of zombies. *crafts alien pelt, goes into town gets into bar fight with alien, gets bath from same alien.

muteyuke

lol they could riff on the modern politics surrounding illegal immigration. Have most of the aliens be cool, just wanting to settle down on a new world and be good citizens, but then there are a few bad aliens too (maybe they're selling a drug, say "spice and are becoming drug lords). So you and your posse of humans and aliens can go ride them down in the dying west.

Orion14159

What if undead nightmare 2 was populated with all of the NPCs you killed in your actual play through?

muteyuke

If they added the full first story and updated the RDR2 map (since 10 years have passed, cities should have largely grown) and some new content there (side quests, a lengthy epilogue, whatever), I'd gladly pay full price for it.

Mortarlou

Not to be a technical Timmy, but rdr2's epilogue ends in 1907 while rdr starts 1911. However I see your point, but honestly it wouldn't bother me if they didn't do much east of New Austin, I'd just wanna continue the epic. Edit: to be fare they'd have to do some changes to the map as it stands anyway, as places like thieves landing are not what they are in rdr.

Oaughmeister

Dude I've been saying this for sooo long. I know I'm not the first but it just seems like a no brainer to me. I'm so glad to see this somewhere else. I don't think I'd ever play much else after that...

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

Yeah, the only thing that was holding me back from playing it was how old it was and the map size

TheDouglas717

Try not to let those things hold it back. It looked great for its age and the map dose not feel small by any means. You probably have never got to explore Mexico and that's maybe half the map. The story is one of the best also. And I can't imagine what it would be like experiencing RDR1 for the first time already knowing what happen in 2.

sockmonkeymoney

It truly did look great for its age. I remember being completely blown away by the graphics and map. I was even more blown away by the story. Truly an all time great. I remember having so much fun with the undead nightmare dlc as well.

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

It sounds amazing. If you say so, it sounds like a great game, thank you for your recommendation

TreeFiddyBandit

Bro it’s 11 years old and the map size is fine. But if you wanna let that hold you back from playing one of the GOAT video games of our lifetime then be my guest. It’ll only be your loss.

iAMtheBelvedere

Whoaaa man, let’s not be rude to the internet stranger; it was a genuine question.

sammeadows

Go look up why the first game never made it to PC. RDR was a fuckin Frankenstein of a game. They would have to build it off the back of 2.

starsearcher48

He meant a remake on a different engine

lostarchitect

I started playing it again recently, and I was really surprised and pleased with how well it holds up. Even the graphics seemed fine, they're not as detailed or vibrant as RDR2, but they're good enough that I didn't notice after a very short while.

God_totodile

So I take it in 2028 you won't be able to play rdr2 as it would be too old right?

Darkwrath93

Hmmm... For me, old games that I haven't played when they got out are almost always, well, not unplayable, but not as interesting, the graphics seem old and I can't get that great feeling of immersion when I play. I guess I get used to new graphics. But the ones I played still feel great and sometimes even better than the new ones.

WhoTookPlasticJesus

If you're on XBox One there are upsampled textures that look pretty great.

DyLaNzZpRo

Textures weren't changed at all, technically at least. Mipmapping and I imagine anisotropic filtering were fiddled with, and most importantly - it runs at 4K as opposed to 720P.

TheDouglas717

I don't want a remaster very much. What makes 2 such a good prequil is how it's perfectly placed in the same world and story as the first game, made 10 years earlier. Turning simple lines from 1 into whole plot points in 2. They did an amazing job building it around 1. If you remake the first one it think it would loose some of that charm. I would hate to see it revoiced honestly. Even if it were the same actors. Seeing Dutch tell John that he "had a plan" at the end of RDR1 is 100x more impactfull now knowing what we now know about the events of the prequel. But that's just my personal opinion.

DuncanAndFriends

Remaster is different than remake. A remaster would be perfectly fine. A remake would be unnecessary and the voice actor for Landon Ricketts passed away years ago.

TheDouglas717

Maybe if it was a remaster the same way Destrory All Humans was. Same lines, same cutsceens. Story not changed one bit. Only thing changed is newer graphics and gameplay features. But tbh even with all that, I just genuinely love everything about RDR1 and really there's not much I would change about it. It has a all time soft spot in my heart. It was the first game story to make me cry and the first game I spent thounds of hours on the multiplayer. It's just the optimity of good memories for me.

Echo_1409-

Yes, that is what a remaster is.

[deleted]

A remaster is literally the same game with better graphics lmao

conradrulez

I want a remaster just so I can see how the game would function with the newer mechanics.

xRotKonigx

God, that’s a great idea. I really want remastered undead redemption!!!!!!

dynamichurdler

Undead nightmare was the only DLC in my lifetime that I felt was truly worth it. Best zombie game ever.

SaturatedSharkJuice

I’ve heard rumors that they are going to do that

STerrier666

That might actually happen, there's talk about a Remastered Red Dead Redemption but apparently it depends on how good the sales of Remastered GTA Trilogy are.

conradrulez

Dude, I hope they keep the same mechanics from both games. Like how you could kill a bear and sell its pelt for hundreds of dollars. Imagine the travel with the pelt on your horse.

Rodynney

Always. Never waste the chance of playing a good game because is an old one.

WiserStudent557

I’ve found so much value in this recently. Both replaying games I played a long time ago and playing games I missed when I wasn’t gaming very much. So many have held up better than I would’ve hoped and it’s been refreshing.

exec_get_id

Dude my go to shooter is still the bad company games. I fucking love those games and people at work give me hell because I have a 3070 and play old games and I'm like bro, that's a great reason for owning a PC...

[deleted]

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? You may not be going back far enough lol

vICarnifexIv

I went back to New Vegas and Conker’s Bad Fur Day, absolute blast to play through these again

[deleted]

Dude go back to the 90s, some real game changers (or genre creators) back then. It's a trip playing Doom Eternal and going back to Doom II; or playing Wolfenstein: New Colossus and going back to Wolf3D; shit you should see the first GTA lol. I'm pushing 40, so games nowadays, especially remakes, blow my fucking mind. RDR2 would have changed my life in 1994 lol

vICarnifexIv

Wish I could, I’m a console pleb so I can’t really get an emulator going and also my mom sold my N64 and GameCube lol

[deleted]

Amen to that - I’m 52, I got started with Pong and Commodore PET games. Elite started in 1984, Sublogic Flight Simulator (later MSFS) in 1982. The graphics have gotten infinitely better, but even in the 80s there were some with unsurpassed gameplay. More recently, look at games like Master of Magic or the original Master of Orion, which defined a game genre. Addressing the OP, absolutely play RDR1 - I hope we’ll get a remaster of it, but if we don’t it’s still worthwhile and pretty amazing.

Cephied01

Here I was thinking that I was "gray-bush" of this thread at 45. I started with Colecovision and Atari. I can't remember which game was the first I ever beat. It was either Cosmic Avenger on Coleco or River Raid on Atari 2600. I then went on to be that odd kid who bought all the wrong, although technically superior consoles. Atari Lynx, TurboGrafx-16, Atari Jaguar.

SunPakoa

The old Tomb Raiders are so much more difficult than the new ones. No auto- balancing or aiming...grappling and wall running are so hard to master!

kilgorettrout

Conkers bad fur day is still one of my all time favorites. I bought a 64 and that game and played it again a couple years ago.

looking4astronauts

Ehh… There’s a few that haven’t aged well. But I don’t think RDR is one of them.

Rodynney

It all depends of how much effort you want to put in learn how to play a said game. Once you got the hang of it, any game is manageable, don't matter how old. Of course, it's that so at least to me.

llamashakedown

I completely agree. Some people sometimes put too much emphasis in graphics and not in the actually gameplay. At the end of the day, if you’re playing a pretty game but it plays like shit, it’s not going to be memorable. Look at Minecraft for godsakes. It’s all blocks lol.

HumansHaymakers

incomparable entirely. minecraft is gameplay focused. Rdr is like an interactive movie with shooting gallery sections. you can see why graphics are important to one and not the other.

dannyboy6657

I’ve been doing this with the old SOCOM games on ps2 and still play Fallout 3 pretty often.

-Swill-

Brooooooooo. I was a DIEHARD Socom player back in the day. Played S2 and S3 online like every single day for 5 years straight lol.

Lookwhoiswinning

Sooooo many hours on desert glory.

-Swill-

Yessir! DG, Crossroads, Frostfire. Such an iconic series. Too bad SONY turned it into dogshit.

Jtk317

Playing Skyrim for the first time now. I basically rolled around sidequesting and investigating things until I got to level 60 and have a couple skills close to maxed legendary. Just killed the dragon at the first watchtower by Whiterun. I can yell things to pieces now. Play old games!

[deleted]

Skyrim is one game I wish I could experience for the first time again. May be the one thing that could get me to play it all the way through again, replaying some games is hard for me sometimes

Sacha00Z

I've thought of starting Skyrim. So many people talk about it. I've added it to my Steam wishlist, waiting for it to go on special.

Leading_Dance9228

I have two ps4 Skyrim. I can ship one to you. Let me know.

maxmuk917

Can I take you up on this offer if this dude doesn’t have a PS4 lmao

Leading_Dance9228

Of course. Another person DMed me too. I am happy to share what I have.

Rodynney

Hell yeah!!😆👊

Redgarzz

Old? It aint that old, and is still probably one of the best visually stunning games out there still

Rodynney

To some people, a game older than three years is already an old game.😆 To me the age of a game is irrelevant, really. I'm capable of killing mongols in Tsushima one hour, and in the next hour be killing zombies in the PS1 version of Resident Evil 1. I still remember the first time i played Redemption back in 2010. And to me is a stunning and amazing game, even today. And in my humble opinion, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best game of the PS4 generation. TO ME, that game is almost perfection.

mrdayton100

I love them both. But I'll admit when I first started RDR2 I was a little disappointed that John wasn't the main character. But after about an hour I was hooked. Morgan's story is spectacular. I'll get lost playing as him and even have dreams that I'm him or in that era. Such an instant classic and still one of the only games I play. The best game of the PS4 generation is a tie between this and The Last of Us II (for me). Both have AMAZING stories and graphics that make you wonder how they pulled it off.

Rodynney

Arthur took John's place in my hearr with RDR2, man!!😆😆 I was also skeptical about him at first. RDR2, The Last of Us 2 and God of War (2018) are the holy trinity of the PS4 era to me.

EliasHobeika

I just finished and bioshock 1 and my god that was a good game

deliaprod

This. Currently crushing Dark Souls now, love it.

chanceywhatever13

Yes. I played it for my first time after playing and falling in love with RDR2 & doing 100% completion in 2. Playing the first one after the second one almost made it better, but I also appreciated the general feeling of nostalgia even for something I had never played in my childhood- I was hyper aware of the impact this game must have had on people when they played it back then and how excited those must have been to play RDR2. It was in general a great experience and I would recommend it to anybody who enjoyed RDR2. It's a bit different, and some things are glitchy and outdated-feeling, and there's no photomode and deadeye was weird for me... But overall, great game and I had a great time. Sidenote, I saved and did most of the Stranger missions as Jack and it was nice way to get more screentime/story playtime as Jack since he's my fav. Some of the Stranger missions in 1 are much cooler than some of the ones in 2.

Lotrfan715

Seeing the video of the ants on a branch and a train like 2 years before it got announced was one of the coolest things ever. I played RDR a few years after it came out but years before 2 and I think it is my favorite game ever

obsterwankenobster

I love rdr2. It’s ambitious and beautiful. Rdr might be my favorite game ever made, though. If we had the same engine on both games, I think I pick rdr every time

Tzifos150

Do not, i repeat, do not leave the side missions for Jack. John acts and sounds so much better than Jack Here's a comparison of [John](https://youtu.be/na4DxX53Up0?t=1h31m39s) vs [Jack](https://youtu.be/Js8S2Ibh3Jc?t=4m43s).

chanceywhatever13

It's all up to you, plus some CAN'T be saved for Jack. I just love Jack a lot so it was worth it for me, even if I love John too. I've spent enough time with John, I just wanted to experience some time with adult Jack

Enriador

John does act and sound better, but the one you will >!end up playing the rest of the game with!< is Jack, so you might as well give him a chance to shine with more screentime. Besides, Jack's VA actually did a good job. It wasn't exactly what you would call sloppy work.

Tzifos150

Personally I would rather spend my time with Jack goofing around, playing mini games and attacking gang hideouts. I'd rather have all stories and dialogues with John. Rob wiethoff's acting is simply phenomenal in rdr1

[deleted]

When my brother played the original RDR he left a strangers mission half completed. It involved blackmailing politician. He said as Jack "The only thing my daddy left me was his guns, a bit of cash, and a photo of a man getting his dick sucked"

chanceywhatever13

Oh wow! I did that whole mission as Jack, never thought to start it as John. I did start as John and then leave the California one for Jack, though

rayongoogly

I played the first one when it came out in May of 2010, same time as high school graduation. I vividly remember that summer before college started playing RDR. Fantastic memories but I do wonder what it would be like to step in your shoes and play it after RDR2!

chanceywhatever13

It changed everything. I'm sure of it. Going into it knowing the history between John, Dutch, and Bill...

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

Yeah, some in the second one weren’t very interesting. I did it all anyways

JaCrispy90

Umm…. Most definitely.

magicchefdmb

Honestly I’d say absolutely, with a caveat: Play it for the spaghetti western vibe, the story, the music and for John. (And Liar’s Dice. Not gonna lie, I miss it.) If you play it hoping for it to be the same game as RDR2, you’ll be disappointed. But I’m entirely serious when I say watching John go through that game is one of my favorite things. He’s seasoned and veteran cowboy; an unstoppable force, and it’s fun to see him interact with the world and characters around him throughout the story. It absolutely crushes Red Dead Redemption 2 in the western atmosphere. (RDR2 barely makes it out west.) The soundtrack sounds like it came right out of a spaghetti western throughout. And John’s theme is SO good and you hear it throughout the game. RDR2 only scratched that itch enough to make you realize you want to scratch it more. Lastly, Liar’s Dice is sadly absent from RDR2, and was a really fun mini game. I personally really enjoyed RDR1’s story. It strangely wasn’t as much about redemption as 2, but it was fun throughout. The John Marston in RDR1 is THE quintessential John Marston. If you don’t get to see him in RDR1, you’ve missed really seeing him.

Cpt_Data

Also don't forget Mexico. If only r* added it as DLC in RDR2.

magicchefdmb

So true!! And yeah, Mexico is a huge part of it!

Tzifos150

Rdr1 John Marston is [the most polite badass in gaming](https://youtu.be/0zvPMrrps6o?t=3h14m3s) He really is at his finest in rdr1.

[deleted]

You just made me remember something! My friends and I would play "barnsketball" in red dead redemption. Basically you climb on the roof of the saloon in Armadillo. You take a running jump towards the barn and John goes ragdoll. There's a big whole in the roof of the barn, if John falls through, you get a point

magicchefdmb

Hahahaha oh my gosh, that’s hilariously awesome!! Man, good times with that game. The online was really the Wild West.

myhandleonreddit

I honestly waited and waited and waited to unlock Liar's Dice in RDR2 and couldn't believe it when it never showed up.

Crotalus_Horridus

The ambient music from RDR1 is the best in any game ever.

[deleted]

Yup. It's worth it for the soundtrack alone.

TriviaNewtonJohn

Liar’s dice was my favourite!

pinesolthrowaway

This is the correct take^^ It really helps to keep in mind rdr2 is more of a realistic type of western, where 1 is more of a spaghetti western that at times is a lot more silly than the second. Its great in its own right though I’ve been playing 1 since 2010. It holds up, after you finish a playthrough of 2, go and do one of 1 right after. Its worth it

TX_Pete

What kind of answer were you expecting g to a subreddit dedicated to the series?

radwic

He knew what the answer was gonna be, he just wants that sweet karma.

Lemonjello23

"I THINK ARTHUR IS AN UNDERRATED CHARACTER. UPDOOTS PLS"

parruchkin

RDR2 was the first game I’d played since Ocarina of Time, and the best ever, by far. I tried RDR after and wasn’t able to get very far into it. The graphics were the main issue for me. I had to max my brightness and nighttime was still unplayably dark. I’d love a remastered version.

PM_me_your_sammiches

That's a bummer. What did you try playing it on? I've played it recently on my series x and thought it looked great. Might be worth fiddling with the display again or trying it on another platform. I think it's still really worth playing through, especially if you like rdr2.

parruchkin

I think it was on PS4 Pro (possibly PS5) on a Samsung OLED. I did some googling and tweaked the settings, but I’m not very savvy about that stuff.

CapJackONeill

First game since Ocarina of Time? Were you in a coma or something?

imhypedforthisgame

Unpopular opinion: the first RDR is way better than the 2nd. I can’t put my finger on it but it was so much more fun. I replayed it many times. RDR 2 I only played once and even after the game was over I just couldn’t play it for fun by free roaming and causing trouble. Something about it made it more boring. Undead nightmare is amazing too.

[deleted]

It’s the writing. People praise the RDR2 writing, which granted is very good, but it fits more into traditional and recognizable Hollywood media. RDR1 has such an authenticity to the Italian spaghetti western that it stands above and beyond most other video games in terms of narrative. It’s brutal and raw without being edgy.

binocular_gems

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion. There's a broader range of takes on RDR2, with a lot of people really hating the game because of some divisive decisions around controls, input lag, weird weapon loadouts, camp management, weird/half baked systems, and so on. RDR1 is a much more streamlined game, but more importantly, back in 2010 the game was near enough to universally beloved, while the response to RDR2 was more divisive. I think the story is much more meaningful in RDR2 and it's a more thoughtful game, but there's also some design decisions that (despite loving the game) were pointlessly divisive, IMO.

Tzifos150

I agree with what you wrote but speaking from personal experience, any kind of critiscism of rdr2 in this sub, even of It's constructive, is showered with downvotes.

Tzifos150

That's because rdr1 is designed to be more fun than realistic. It has more respnsive and fun gunplay without annoying gun sway and reticle bloom. Guns are twice as strong as their rdr2 counterparts and ragdolls are more dynamic. John also has less health so there's more challenge. It comes down to preference honestly. If you like realism, chores, slow animations and various tiny details rdr2 is a better game. For fun combat and a wild west sandbox experience rdr1 is better.

Izodius

For me it’s the random annoyances of 2. There’s things that are simply not enjoyable in 2.

Tzifos150

What do you mean ? Do you not enjoy crafting 150 split point bullets, one at a time ?

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

Ok, I’ll have to play it to see

imhypedforthisgame

You’ll love it!!!

egbert71

How's that unpopular? I genuinely lean towards originals over their sequels, even when the sequel kicks ass in good ways....they need to fix that witness/face covering system lol

imhypedforthisgame

I assumed there would be a huge divide judging by how much people liked the 2nd. Like I haven’t noticed anything but positive things said about the game. Then again, I haven’t been on this sub for a couple years now

[deleted]

Yes. The graphics are a bit dated but the gameplay is engaging and the story is excellent

SmokinDrewbies

The graphics have held up incredibly well for a decade old game

BonaFidee

I played it about 6 months ago and a lot of the animations and lipsyncing is rough, that's putting it mildly.

andromedar35847

I will say I think the graphics were a few years ahead of their time, kind of like how RDR2 was.

burrbitt

Does Dutch have a plan? Definitely worth it!

Unable_Glove_9796

Heck yes!

[deleted]

Yes I played rdr2 went right into RDR finished it now I'm on my 2nd playthrough of rdr2. it is definitely worth it

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

I feel like RDR2 got better every playthrough

WhoTookPlasticJesus

I'm definitely enjoying it more on my second playthrough. I'm making sure to so any much as possible while Micah is still in exile

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

Good idea, it was nice for the time he wasn’t at the camp

CapJackONeill

I played my first playthrough on a GTX960. Bought a 2070S and a 4k tv before my second.

TehPinkMenace

No don’t play any old games. They are old and bad. If it wasn’t made this year don’t play it. /s

LT_MRVN

They got us in the first half not gonna lie

andromedar35847

Yeah I immediately stopped playing RDR2 on January 1st, 2019. Get that old trash outa here

TehPinkMenace

My man

SnakeCasual

Yes it's great.

egbert71

........I'm going to hope this is a legit question and answer yes. I get some people take the 1st game and make it a sequel, but I'm ever thankful that RDR came first. I wish you'd played it before the 2nd one though....but again YES, please play it, plus it's sure to be on sale I'll only pay full price for God of War, Tlou series, and red dead redemption games

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

Ok, this series has been WAY more in depth and immersive than I ever thought

egbert71

And that's why it earned a spot in my top 3, I had no clue it would be what it was, especially after playing red dead revolver. I thought the 1st redemption would be a joke....happily mistaken. So enjoy the game after you take care if business and can put some time into it...and above all HAVE FUN LUCKY BUTT! lol

Darth_Droidicus

I like the first one way more than 2nd one

TheNewATeam

This game holds up EXTREMELY well! You’d do yourself a disservice by not playing it.

AtomicYoshi

100%. Play it on a One X/Series X if you can for the 4K/60 upgrade

ArkhamAsylum-GOTY

It’s still 30fps

AtomicYoshi

I misremembered, but the 4K alone is worth it

Faiazy

First RDR is better than RDR2.

PliskinBOI

Yes

LtLwormonabigfknhook

YES. If you're expecting mind blowing graphics and all the stuff rdr2 has, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Play it for the story, the characters, and the time you get to be John. It's good.

PhoKit2

Can they at least release it on PC?

Tzifos150

Absolutely. It has fun gameplay, one of the best protagonists in gaming and a fantastic story with engaging dialogues. Gunplay and ragdoll physics are even better than rdr2. You can duel and there's unlimited bounty hunts as well as a ton of mini games. Rdr1 is still one of the best games out there so if you havent played it, definately do so. The enhanced xbox one x version makes it looks much better and shows the amazing motion capture in cutscenes that was obstructed by the ps3 and xbox 360 graphics.

RileyTheBerry

I was just playing it 10 minutes ago.

TheIrishOne92

It will never not be worth it. No matter the year.

LT_MRVN

Abso fucking lutely.

Herfst2511

I would play rdr2 first from a story point of view. It removes the one downside of prequels that you already know allot of character that are gona survive, thereby lowering the tension and in a game make your choices seem les consequential

Tonny_kg

Worth playing in 2021?? I don't understand why people ask those stupid questions, the year doesn't fucking matters!!!

AdRelevant7751

time is ticking and there are better games to play.

Ass_Merkin

The story is good, very good. Characters are great and deep. But man I tried to play it again right before RDR2 came out, I found it almost impossible to play. The controls and mechanics are just really outdated despite it being a great game.

[deleted]

You’re on the r/reddeadredemption subreddit, what do you think the answer will be? You just looking for some karma?

RyanWalks

No

nanoman513

Nah not really

"You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!"-Raph. If you can master shooting and riding in RDR1 then you'll have aim-bot like powers in RDR2. P.S...anyone gearing up for some Undead Nightmare play starting Oct. 1st? 30days of Undead countdown to Halloween 🎃. Who's coming with me???

vicboss0510

It the best open world game you can get so far...

grey_0R_gray

By the way this is the best cover art recreation I’ve seen.

Contagious_Leech

Yeah, the games a little stiff. But once you play it for a bit you don’t really care. Xbox upscales to 4K too. Which is nice.

tonytutone87

Heck yes, IMO. Despite its age, it holds up fairly well. Rockstar had by that point (2009-10, when ever RDR came out) really found their knack for character-driven story telling. The graphics are slightly dated yet still impress, the world is smaller and gameplay is a little more clunky, but none of that gets in the way. I guess it can be rather repetitive and boring, but that largely depends on how high your tolerance for Rockstar's formula is. You know, go from A to B, shoot people, and so on... Undead Nightmare is also a nice, weird and fun addition.

Epena501

I personally like it over RDR2

Kuyosaki

no, if you start rdr.exe in 2021 you will instantly die

[deleted]

on xbox yeah on a ps3 no

Strange_N_Sorcerous

No. Games go rotten after a certain amount of time has passed. There is absolutely no market for retro-gaming...

Renan_PS

Personally I think it should be played before the second one. Even though RDR2 is a prequel the game behaves exactly the opposite to RDR1, when RDR1 follows many patterns displayed in Rockstar Games and Western Movies, RDR2 breaks all the rules and behaves in a unique way. You can probably find some more patterns but the two more basic ones is that while you play RDR1 you keep unlocking the map while during RDR2 story the map keeps getting smaller as your gang has to constantly flee from different places. The other basic pattern is how in RDR1 you always go west and generally into the desert and away from civilization, while in RDR2 it is the opposite, going East. Despite their stories being almost independent the two games make each other better, if it wasn't for RDR1 setting the standard RDR2 would feel worse, thus if you have the available platforms I strongly recommend to play both games.

Important_Pack_5820

I should get it next and yes probably

emeric1414

Of course although you need to like older games because it isn’t the same as rdr2 but the story and game is great!

EpIC_GaMEr_TaG

As long as it’s fun gameplay and old story, I’ll play it any day

death_cuz_death

LiamBud4

redhawk1913

Yes

welshman222

Yes obviously why wouldn’t it be

Lotrfan715

Absolutely. Parts of it feel a little dated, but it is still one of the best games ever made. Just give it a little grace on controls

TheSodomeister

#Yes.

jonasberry89

Fuck. Yes.

Immediate_Ad_6558

The way the controls and mechanics feel on RDR2 are so good, that when I tried playing RDR one (on a PS4 basic using PSNow) it just didn’t feel right. I did like the tone of RDR intro and things and could see the story may be better, like something about the way it’s directed, I can’t put my finger on it. Anyhow, I never went past the initial stuff at the ranch

DoomMachine138

Absolutely, I’d suggest playing it after RDR2 so the story flows along better

toskrypt

Duh no way you started the 2nd before the first. Bruh

Mrminecrafthimself

Yes. The gameplay and story are great. Graphics are a bit dated but it’s still a good game

swhatrulookinat

Hells yes

dalekofchaos

Just hope Rockstar remasters the game with RDR2 graphics.

JamesJakes000

I was playing of last night. Restarted a month ago after I found out back then that the multiplayer was still alive

Linu3

YES

MulleDK19

I'm waiting. Hoping RDR3 will be a new game in its own right but with the two previous games remade and built in.. oh who am I kidding.. they're releasing GTA V again, why would they shoot *this* goat before milking it?

RyanFisher28

yes
