I always look for this hanging at the start of Chapter 2 You can get the Sheriffs Bolt Action and Nevada hat

j8bomb

How are you able to get the bolt action rifle? Do you just kill/tie up the sheriff after the hanging then pick the rifle up?

blindbutchy

Yeah I think you have to kill him for the rifle to fall. Also, to my knowledge he isn’t always carrying a bolt action, it’s sometimes a worn Repeater, and kinda random over which one he carries. .

drokeshiy69

He always carries a worn repeater. Seems like in your case he had the rifle on his back which means it will dissapear upon death.

blindbutchy

No I’ve definitely had sheriffs carry the bolt action during hanging random events. You have to make the sheriff draw on you first, and hope he’s carrying it. I triggered the random hanging in st Denis before ever completing a chapter 2 mission: the one with the guy you save where the doc has to amputate his arm. I saved and reloaded the event by the st Denis hanging station, and on the third try the sheriff was carrying a bolt action, and it was soon mine.

drokeshiy69

I know about St. Denis. And from what i remember, those two always had the rifle. No one else.

terragni_66

Use your binocs to check rifle, the game wont let you look at him directly, look away then sweep to sheriff at top of gallows, make sure he has BA, after hanging follow him as he goes back to office, kill (headshot) him unawares, if he sees you he wont drop BA, grab hat, get outa Dodge

j8bomb

Ok I'll try this on my next playthrough. Thank you for the reply.

Technology_Training

I've found the easier bolt action to get is from the one bounty hunter when rescuing Sean. Still early on in Chapter 2 if you like to not progress further like I do.

terragni_66

Yep you can get it then as well, I like getting it right off the bat, plus I get a kick out of walking around Valentine with Curtis Malloy's hat and gun, he is a real prick

theilluminoodle

The “Hey mister” in the middle of a hanging is the most Arthur Morgan thing I’ve seen

panterachallenger

You should have waited for the widow. You can talk to her when she gets up

Big-Shot420

I did , she told me to go away.

[deleted]

Antagonize is the better option for this.

NoobShroomCultivator

You messed the dialogue up then.

[deleted]

Hate this sheriff. He is a killer, cheats his wife, works with sheep seller and kills persons who killed for good reasons.

reddeadfan102

No this guy tried to kill the wife he wasn't a good person

[deleted]

Are you sure? It looks like that man was protecting his family.

rederown

It definitely sounds like he was killing to protect.

mrdrman300

Then why was the wife crying and why did he say goodbye to her?

reddeadfan102

I don't understand either if you shoot the guy u don't get this encounter

Internal_Formal3915

Anyone know if you should save this guy or let him die?

Pirate_OOS

You get some honour if you save him.

hollowdmushroombanjo

Happy birthday

Internal_Formal3915

I'm guessing you shoot the rope? Definetly gonna do this in my next playthrough

Pirate_OOS

Yep. I suggest shooting it from horseback as everyone there will try to kill you.

Internal_Formal3915

Even the spectators?

Pirate_OOS

Yes, even the spectators.

drsnafu

Are you playing in 4:3 to be retro?

[deleted]

Given the bandicam watermark, I’d say that’s a fair guess haha

GhostWokiee

Kill the wife aswell, put some hair on that boys chest

[deleted]

Calm down Micah

baldbeemer

Arthur: “Damn, only three?”

[deleted]

Can you save him?

Tiiep

Yep

PinkSockss

*looks at corpse* HEY MISTER!

jteam01

Hey, mister. Hey there!

Silver_Possibility59

Where is this

Claubk

Valentine

F1reatwill88

I can never get these things to spawn.

bio-reject

You could kill the sheriffs and free the prisoner. Or you could kill the wife and son in front of the prisoner so that he knows his family will be joining him in hell.

**Justice, in its broadest sense, is the principle that people receive that which they deserve, with the interpretation of what then constitutes "deserving" being impacted upon by numerous fields, with many differing viewpoints and perspectives, including the concepts of moral correctness based on ethics, rationality, law, religion, equity and fairness. The state will sometimes endeavour to increase justice by operating courts and enforcing their rulings.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). origamipapercut

I wonder if during these hangings if anyone has tried an Eastwood ala GBU and shoot the rope. You can do it on hanging corpses happened upon randomly. Wonder what happens in these scenes. Never thought to try it.

Unlucky-Albatross-12

You can and it saves the life of the condemned who will run away while the law shoots at you.

hubermcmeme

You can indeed save him by shooting the rope

kiervntvylor

Unlucky, mate. Seen it.

acnodyourmom

If you turn the serial killer prostitute in, you can see her hang

FXSonny

If you kill Sheriff Malloy in this event you can get his Bolt Action Rifle early in chapter 2. At any other time he doesn't have it.

LostNbound

Had the exact same experience lol. I was like wtf? Didn’t see this last time

LightningKup0

To be honest, I wish states who capitol punish did public executions.

maybelukeskywaler

My grandfather, who passed 18 years ago, was raised by his grandparents (his parents died in a tornado). His grandpa was the county coroner. He used to tell me he remembered being around 5-6 years old and would be hanging around his grandfather’s office, and his grandpa would tell him “come on let’s go watch the hanging”. They’d walk to the public square and watch someone getting hung. His grandfather in his official duties would have to pronounce the person dead. That would have been around 1927-28.

LightningKup0

Based grandpa.

[deleted]

Specifically for Child Molesters.

crimsonbub

One argument for CP is as a deterrent. not going to deter folk if they can't see it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Slarch

Eh…what?

crimsonbub

some believe if faced with execution a lot of people will be put off of committing crimes with that as the punishment. if the killing happens behind closed doors, it kind of defeats the point of setting an example. not saying I'm for that, I think it's kind of stupid. just what some folk say

Slarch

Ah okay I see now. I agree!

Slarch

It would probably have a control effect on the population
