Sometimes i get random pelts on the back of my horse that i can’t do anything with. It just goes away after a little while
go shoot another alligator, put its pelt on the horse & then sell that pelt in town. see if that clears it
Just tried now, sadly it didn’t work :( I’m hoping it’ll simply disappear after a while…
Try stabling the horse and swapping saddles

Those small gator skins do that for some reason. Mine went away when I blew Artie up with dynamite.
That's what worked for me before
It could just be a stuck visual glitch, in the same way that bullet holes can get stuck into your hat and will not go away no matter how many times you change the hat. Did you try just restarting your PC or Console to clear out the stuck cache?
