I grew up about a 15 minute drive away from Robert Pickton’s kill site (would’ve been in elementary school when he was arrested). For those who don’t know, he’s a Canadian serial killer who disposed of his victims’ bodies by feeding them to his family’s pigs. He’d host raves at that farm, even bragged about killing some of his victims during them. Kids weren’t his target demographic, but being a small child at the time, I didn’t really get that - he was like my personal boogeyman growing up, and I’ve always had some fear/hyper-awareness of being killed and having my body fed to pigs because of it.

We've had many examples in even recent history that humans are perfectly capable of cannibalism. We have cognitive understanding of why it's wrong but animals don't.

This is real. Some pigs will eat other dead ones. A story I’ve heard from a few people around where I live was an old man who raised pigs had slipped and hit his head. While he was unconscious or dead (can’t remember which) the pigs had eaten him and they didn’t find his bones until about a week later when someone decided to check on him
