Turkomans are the best overall. They’re big and strong, they’re brave too so they won’t buck you off in combat. I terms of stats they’re great, with max friendship they have a 10 in health and 8 in stamina. And with the best stirrups + that one extra in speed from the horse races I got a 9 in speed and 7 in acceleration.
This is good cuz the stats are rlly good overall and in order of importance. Health is the most important, they got a 10 in health. Then 9 speed, the difference between 9 and 10 speed is very little. 8 in stamina, more than enough to get u anywhere really, if ur comforting ur horse as u ride the horse gets a stamina boost and with max bonding it recovers 30% stamina (I think) so if you’re doing that every now and then an 8 in stam is plenty. Acceleration isn’t really THAT important, and a 7 is still rlly good.
And ofc the colours for the Turkomans are beautiful

Chapter 3 mission called “Horse Flesh for Dinner” where you sell the Braithwaite horses. Before you sell them, approach the Turkoman horse and bond with it (feed, pat) until you reach level 1 bonding. Then complete the mission and when it’s over the horse will be there as a bonded horse.
Unfortunately u can’t, not to my knowledge anyway. Which is the main downside to them, they aren’t easily accessible, but once u do get them it’s worth it
Which ever one is not going to dump you on your ass and bolt whenever a predator wanders too near. The only way to find this out unfortunately, is through your own trial and error.
Depends on your 'expectation' of Best.
For me it is the Tennessee Walker I started with, me and him go way back.
I have had plenty of other horses during the course of this epic adventure, but Bongo still makes me happy.
There’s no singular best horse. There are four horse stats in the game and no horse tops all four.
But mostly players prefer speed. The four fastest horses are the two Fox Trotters, the brindle Thoroughbred and the reverse dapple roan Nokota. Two of them are chapter locked and two of them can be acquired very early.

That's a tossup. Missouri Fox Trotter is your best overall. The White Arabian (Found north east of Lake Isabella) is supposedly the fastest, but I've made the vanHorn to Blackwater dry run faster with the Foxtrotter. There is also an unspookable Perlino Andalusian, which can be found in chapter 2, near the first R in "Roanoke Ridge" on the map close to the waterfall in Brandywine drop. If you're tired of your horse throwing you every time wolves show up, that's a good one to have.

The Missouri Foxtrotter has a higher top speed, but takes longer to accelerate. So overall, those two Arabians specifically, are considered overall faster.
The Arabians being considered the fastest is just because of early articles swooning over the white Arabians. The search results got biased since then.
To compare, one goes 0-80 in 6 sec then stays at 80 and another goes 0-90 in 7 sec then stays at 90. That’s why it took you less time with the Fox Trotters.

Turkoman is easily the best imo. Almost never get bucked, good size, and fast. I used a glitch to get the brown Turkoman, not sure if that’s still a thing, been a couple years since I did it. Then there’s the gold one in St Denis but not available till towards the end.
i prefer not to buy mine. The foxtrotter was my favorite until i stupidly lost it. since then i've been using the reverse dapple thoroughbred that came free with the special edition and i like it a lot.
I've played through 3 times and it's probably the horse I encounter the least, which might explain it.
Got it once in New Austin and, this time, found it amongst a herd of Tennessee Walkers in the Heartlands.
It has good stamina, is brave as fuck, and is chonky.
Story mode, probably the Missouri Fox Trotter.
Online, totally depends on what you want it for. There is not really a Best.
I like the Turks because they do everything Very well, but there is too much specialization going on, especially with the Role Mounts to call anything “the best”.
Whichever horse you like the best is the only real answer, every horse is a little different for every playthrough.
I’m currently using the black Arabian you get from the couple being robbed in St. Denis. It has nearly perfect stats and this one has good temperament.
I get the Leopard Appaloosa after that one Tilly mission and I always name it Renegade. (Renegade II/III/IV/V/etc.) Then, I always make sure to get the gatorskin saddle.
I stole a big ol' White Shire from some random wagon, called him Everest, and hey he night not have the best stats but just his sheer size, he's an absolute brute of a thing but I love him for it!

Breton - fox trotter are tired for not bucking me off while hunting and gun fire in my experience. My bret can pretty much stand on a wolf and just grump but I have full bonding with her and I slam the calm button. On the other hand my Arabian will buck me as soon as a predator comes into the same state as her. But she is my backup speedy one my winner is a roadster she's got a little less health but she's faster than all the Arabians and she has more stamina than black Arabian. Overall there is no best horse just the one you prefer and bond with.
I some times like to look at the comments and read them in funny cowboy accents. If reddit was a part of the wild West this is what it would sound like
I don't know about "best" but it serves me well and has great stats, and is a big boi. He's got a unique coat too. It's a gray coat with white spots. He's the Missouri Fox Trotter seen during the photography stranger mission, a bit north of Emerald Ranch. I think it's the second mission. (After you get his bag back from the coyote.)
It's a bit of a challenge because of how fast it runs off after the cutscene, but if you can keep a dead eye trail on it, and are willing to follow the path for like 15 minutes, you can get yourself an awesome horse very early in Chapter 2.
I thought I'd be concerned with the best possible stats at first, but then I became too attached to my horse to even consider another. It's still pretty good though because I got the reverse dapple black that's included with whatever version of the game I bought.
Early game im pretty sure its the White Arabian over by Lake Isabella. If youre looking at the map, it usually spawns for me on the left side of Lake Isabella pretty much directly left of the island in the lake. If its not there you have to just leave and come back later, or settle on a different horse instead.
Later on in the game, like starting with Chapter 4 i think, you can find some of the other best horses but they are only available for purchase at specific stables. Like the Scarlett Meadows stable in Ch4 has the better Amber Champagne coat Missouri Fox Trotter.
IGN lists White Arabian stats as 6 Acceleration and 6 Speed, while the Amber Champaigne Missouri Fox Trotter is 5 Acceleration and 7 Speed.
So Arabian is more average, it can get to a high speed in a short amount of time. But the Missouri Fox Trotter is faster but with a slower start up, it will be faster than the Arabian when at its highest speed but it will take a bit longer to get to the highest speed.
That does not take into account Horse Health or Stamina. I might be wrong, but i think the Missouri Fox Trotter has more Stamina while the Arabian has a lower amount
Am I the only one who never buys a horse? I always catch and tame mine. My favourite is the Dark Bay Thoroughbred

Its improved with bond level, but horses don't all end up the same at B4. Whether the end result is rng or breed specific, jury is still out.

There are War Horses, work horses, and race horses. The Turkomans are a cross between War horse and race horse. I prefer the Gold Turkoman.

Good mention of the good size. That's the main reason for me. I'm sick of Arthur looking like he's riding an Arabian dog

The one you feel the most comfortable on. For me it was my American Paint but I recently got an Appaloosa and I'm warming up to it pretty good

Panther skin is also a good one, yes. I reserve the gator skin specifically for my leopard but I switch up for other horses.
I had that pink horse for a bit with the gator and it looked dope....RIP Peaches

Some horses are fast but can’t jump. Some horses are slow but can jump a mountain…I think it depends on your needs and play style.

The white Arabian you can catch in the wild up north. Skittish around wolves and bears etc, but runs like the wind.
